  1. Yes...I am the insane one who has watched this movie thousands of times because it's so interestingly weird, bizarre and strange.

This DVD release is the ORIGINAL version with all of the correct soundtrack score and songs. The other release changes all of the music score and songs, which is what makes HHOH5 have it's feel and mood.

If you buy Horror House, be sure to get THIS DVD release.

It's too bad we don't have extras like commentary, interviews with the actors, etc. This is a rare gem of a film and it never gets old and never gets boring.

  1. I have had this video ever since it was first available for purchase. Then my 2yr old great-grandaughter came to live with us and she has played it over and over since before Christmas until she absolutely wore it out! Everyday she asks for it to be played. It is a great story for little ones and is done in that special touch Precious Moments has for everything it does! (It is a distant "take off" of the Littlest Angel.) She will be so thrilled when I give it to her which will be the minute it is delivered. Would recommend for all children, young and old.

  2. The timeless and important message of this video is that God works all things -- even things that appear bad initially - together for good in the lives of those who love Him. Although I was disappointed that the video wasn't animated (instead it is still drawings) my kids (6 & 3) didn't mind at all. They loved it.

  3. My daughters, ages 3 and 6, love this video. They always want to watch it when they are sick or tired and need some down time. Little Simon the lamb in this video is the cutest little thing, who learns about being the new kid who is different. This movie is done so well, that you cheer on the lamb, who finds true friends. This video teaches many values.

  4. My 3 year old really loved this movie. He especially loved the ending when Timmy gives his blanket to baby Jesus. My 3 year old carries his blanket everywhere so it made more aware of sharing the things that he treasures.

  5. i remember watching this movie with my little siste r who loved it!!! we had it on tape and i took it out for my own two kids. who are 2 and 1! they love it. they are so enthralled all through the tape. its so cute. my 2 year old likes to watch it over and over over again. so prepare yourself for tiimmy overload. lol

2 comments about Lonely Planet Six Degrees Series 2: Hong Kong.
  1. I'm in this! Okay, in something that can't even really be called a cameo, but nonetheless...in one of the early scenes the host goes to a 'costume party' where almost no one else dresses up; he starts looking at all the people there and describing them to the audience, "Suit, suit, suit, suit, suit, a couple of dresses, suit, almost a costume, suit, pirate."

And yes, I am the pirate.

I've never been prouder. It was a benefit for the Hong Kong ballet.

And, dammit, if they hadn't been filming the show, I would have won!

Oh, but about the DVD, they explore the seldom seen parts of HK, from some lovely kayaking in the outlying islands, to a fantastic traditional village house; they visit local racconteur Nuri Vittachi and a fascinating and somewhat strange photographer/visual-performance artist identified only as Amy; they go shopping in Mong Kok, one of the most densely crowded places on Earth; they ride along with the marine police on a night patrol to catch smugglers (which they don't actually manage to do), and they meet a kung-fu artist/stuntman. It's loads of fun, and I saw parts of Hong kong that I hadn't seen here in real life having been here 17 years! But it was rather odd that the majority of people they met here were NOT CHINESE. Sure, there are a lot of expats living here, but you'd think that more locals would give you more of a local sense of the place.

And keep an eye out for the pirate. (The Marine Police still haven't brought me in! HAHAHAHAHA!)

  2. I was hoping this would be a good overview of things to see on my trip in Hong Kong. But it didn't really offer much information.

The host is nice enough, but there wasn't much info about things to see, places to go, what to expect, etc...

If you're looking for something to help plan your trip. Save your money. On the other hand, the Frommers guide is quite helpful.

5 comments about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
  1. I love how this movie not only tells a story but depicts the times in which it was made. The Doe stay at home in the cave while Rudolph's Dad and Santa go out and do the "Man's work" (to use his words) of searching for Rudolph. Ironically, if it hadn't been for the woman going out in search of Rudolph, all the men would have probably died. Still, I think some of the comments made were a real depiction of the mindset of the time period and it makes me laugh every time I watch it. Everytime Rudolph's Daddy says that, I look at my fiance' and (jokingly) say "That's right! You heard him! It's MAN's Work!"

A great holiday classic full of laughter, fun and adventure. And the story of Rudolph speaks to one thing in particular. Our differences make us unique but those differences don't have to be a hinderance. They can be a gift. In the hands of a powerful spirit, a weakness can be transformed into a strength.

Thanks for teaching generations of kids that very valuable lesson!

  2. In the prominent, well-known, and award-winning movie Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer, FHE, (which is) also known as Family Home Entertainment, presents the most famous cartoon of Christmas. With all of its history and fanfare one would not expect a disappointment. Incessantly and irritatingly, though, Burl Ives wrecks the film as he interrupts, dances, and sings throughout all of the key moments in the movie! Perhaps singing and dancing make for a family-friendly movie, but at what expense? Leaving this narrative without any content rating whatsoever, the producers of the film neglected also to provide any content because they were more concerned about its suitability. Rudolf the reindeer relinquished its' ratings. To be fair though, the qualities that are lacking for some must have been heavily compensated for in the eyes of others in order to receive award-winning film status. If any movie escaped having been rated less than this classic, I must have missed it. Despite its shortcomings, the film succeeds in producing a very clean and prize-achieving storyline.

As you may not be aware of, this is the story of a dumb deer, bestowed with the name of Rudolf, and who lives in a fantasy setting. As described, the narrator of the story is the talking snowman that follows Rudolf in his travels as a likeminded misfit, and consequently he gradually, and yet somehow calmly melts to death when nobody is looking. This is not revealed however. Dotting the landscape with white snow, the leitmotif weather of Christmas annoys viewers with a bland background of white snow. Within this setting appears a young deer named Rudolf with what appears to be an irritating pimple on his nose. It is so big that it looks like a cherry tomato. He tries his best to cover it with mud because it is not just an ordinary pimple. It has the magical ability to glow like a nightlight! In addition to this defect, Rudolf and all of the other young reindeer have small horns that stick out of their heads like lumps of black licorice. Now, is that not silly? This important youngling also runs away since he is made fun of and meets up with a complete stranger. This stranger is a toothless runaway elf who wants to be a dentist! And so the portrayal of Rudolf continues as he squeaks about with a high voice and a short outcast of the elf society.

Although scarcely a conflict, the storm that had arisen became so strong that it prohibited Santa from applying navigation techniques, and because he was too dumb to have his elves create a flashlight, he was just about to cancel Christmas. The storm was a blanket. Santa, (who was) previously regarded as not so bright, now fires his toothless dentist wannabe. This brings Rudolf full circle. Meeting up with this ostracized elf, Rudolf seeks a new life so he teams up with the dwarf. Along the way, these two misfits meet an ignominious, oblivious, and selfish man who licks gold for a living and whose name is Cornelius. Cornelius helps them to ward-off the Abominable Snowman. After they had pretended to escape this defenseless giant, the three characters moved on to a greater cause, leaving their past in the tumult of Global Climate Change. The world's toymaker primarily suffers however from the inability to see though a storm and he has to find a solution other than search lights and that becomes the highlight of the movie at this point in the narrative.

Rudolf finally discovers hope. Above the wreck of confusion the two absentminded teenagers, (who were) having trouble fighting, racing, and competing with the storm, finally reappeared at their homes. Santa had been patiently waiting for the two because he wanted to reward them. Surprising even the smartest critic, these two outcasts saved Christmas. The poor old Abominable Snowman that I mentioned earlier is invited to top the Christmas tree with a star. The tree had been erected as a part of the huge celebration for Rudolf, who could light the way through the storm with his nose and prevent Christmas from being cancelled. Unfortunately this version of the film shows the narrator being left outside in the lonely cold and kept out of the marvelous party. If he was upset, the poor snowman did not show it, for he actually chuckled to see the outcasts enjoy themselves before they would be put to hard labor the next day. This ends the silly adventure of the pair of lazy kids. They lived happily ever after.

Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer is a rather depressing film because it unfortunately had a sinister motive. Rudolf actually indoctrinates little kids. Unfortunately, Rudolf the reindeer, (who was) previously regarded as being up to no good, is a movie that seems to say O.K. to running away from home but only to return after being chased by a curious monster and a snowstorm. When I am told that this movie is a classic, I laugh because classic means different things to different individuals. Even the dramatic Gone with the Wind is regarded as a classic, but classic does not mean interesting, moral or even instructive as classic probably had been defined in the past. (The phrase, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a @#!$%^&*()_+" is considered a classic but would not have survived a normal children's cartoon.) Because of the fact that Rudolf escaped any content ratings at all disturbs me. The video jacket describes the film as being harmless and suitable for all audiences but fails to warn consumers of the possible side effects which may include drowsiness, boredom, and addiction to pain killers and even death from brain inactivity. Judging this movie personally, I will agree that it is entertaining for children, but so are the Power-Rangers, Tellie-Tubbies, and Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. I personally believe that Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer is a poor movie that should not be placed on the shelf labeled classics.

  3. Just like I remembered it when I was a kid. My son (11) also enjoyed it alot! The figures are still a great way to do animation.

  4. I must be honest, at 50, I bought this for myself. It is a classic from my childhood

  5. Charming, well-made, and with nary a car chase or half-clad babe anywhere. Burl Ives' voice alone is worth the price.

  1. i wanted to tell everyone about this product since we are the people who produced it. I am using my wifes Amazon account to post this.

We have taken some of the greatest classic cartoons ever produced, from some of the greatest animators in history, and meticulously added hundreds of hours and hundreds of thousands of dollars of detailed restoration to both the sound and images in order to make them look as good as they did the day they were first released. Each cartoon is digitally processed first through photo shop frame by frame, and then using both the Davinci and the new Pogo systems to remove every scratch, line, dropout and artifact possible. We then we do a full color restoration at Technicolor using the original color palates to match the colors, tones and shades. We then digitally clean up the sound track to remove all the hiss and scratches and carefully add new foley sound effects, ambience and digitally remix them back onto the cartoons.

The result is our animated DVD series which is currently distributed in both the United States and Canada by Goodtimes Entertainment. These fully restored, full motion, color animations have not been seen in this condition since their original theatrical release. Sit back and be amazed and enjoy some of the finest and funniest animation ever made.

thats why were to only studio doing these that have the blessing and participation of Fleischer Studios and the only one to receive the prestigious Gold Medal from the Classic Animation Preservation Society.

I highly recomend this product to any lovers of classic animation.

  2. It'd be nice if there was a listing of the cartoons so the customer knew what they were getting.

  3. I agree with the previous reviewer. I'm a huge fan of these old cartoons and it's hard enough to collect them without duplication, so please list what's on the disk! Also, I was gratified to read the review (which rang sincere) written by a member of the restoration team and will now look for their releases IF SOMEONE BOTHERS TO LIST WHAT'S ON THEM!

Update: I did a search and found the contents, so here they are:

"Before the advent of television, animated shorts were screened in movie theaters as part of the pre-feature presentation. When those classic cartoons were finally aired on television in the 1950s and '60s, many were shortened to fit into required broadcast time limits. Boasting crisply remastered sound and picture quality, this collection restores nine classic Christmas-themed cartoons to their original theatrical lengths for an authentic moviegoing experience from the Golden Age of Cinema: 'Ginger Nutt's Christmas Circus,' 'Peeping Penguins,' 'A Waif's Welcome,' 'Christmas Comes But Once a Year,' 'Jack Frost,' 'Hawaiian Birds,' 'Hector's Hectic Life,' 'Snow Foolin',' and Max Fleischer's 'Somewhere in Dreamland,' which appears in its original Technicolored full-length for the first time in 50 years."

I notice that a third of these aren't duplications of titles in other collections I own (in fact, two appear on the hard-to-find Cartoon Crazy's Christmas and one I've never seen before at all), so I'll be ordering this one.

If the aforementioned restoration team member reads this, please restore and release more of these cartoons--this is classic stuff and should remain available. Cleaning it up ensures its accessibility to future generations of animation fans of all ages--I have friends (most of them foreign-born) with very young children, and they AND their kids LOVE this stuff, so there's definitely a market for it, especially if promoted properly. And if you're taking requests, Charles Mintz's The Little Match Girl (1937) doesn't seem to be available anywhere...

Update #2: I bit the bullet and ordered the disk. The selections all look and sound great; clearly a lot of restoration effort went into this release (even the non-Technicolor 'toons are gorgeous). There is a minor quibble though...only a few of the selections are actually Christmas-themed (the balance could be accurately termed "winter-themed," I guess). I recommend the set because the cartoons are fun, look great, and the price is right; let's give them the incentive to keep restoring by buying this release.

  4. it is a real treat seeing old cartoons that have been digitally restored, they did an excellent job, it brought back some memories.

5 comments about Halloween 5- The Revenge of Michael Myers.
  1. This film is not the worse of the series, that is the next Halloween movie. H-5 was ok before I saw Halloween- Curse of MM, and it explained all the confusing things in H-5. Now I look at H-5 and blame it for creating the trash to come.

The film is not as bad as I am making it sound. It has it's moments of being fun mindless entertainment, but nothing ground breaking or amazing. I think the film was rushed and it shows in the movie. The guy in black running around was just stupid, and the ending sucked to this movie. That is just saying it bluntly. It will have you wondering what the hell is going on. And you discover Michael's tattoo, when did he get that? I didn't like that in the film either. It was almost like they were hinting he was in a cult... oh no...

But if you love the Halloween series, and think you will miss something if you dont see this movie, you wont. You can skip 5 and 6. Halloween Resurrection ignores 4,5,and 6 anyways. But H-5 does have it fun moments, as I said. But don't expect the first three (ignoring H-3) Halloween films.

  2. The spooky atmosphere makes these films. I recommend this Film to anyone. My favourite movies are pts 1-5. Pt 1 - 3 brings me back to my youth and the DVD transfers are fine, if you are after something intelligent, this is not for you, for the films are a fun and entertaining session of good-looking horny teens getting slashed. Not great but what the hell its all popcorn stuff anyway. If anyone is interested in Halloween collectables, email taylor5821@hotmail.com

  3. I was in the mood for some Slasher movies and this along with part 4 made a nice double feature. The sound and picture quality on the Divimax disc was good. There were some minor extras on the disc that I found entertaining well.

While the movie wasn't as good as part 4 was, it still managed to entertain and keep us in suspense.

  4. I would have to say the Halloween 5 and The curse of Michael Myers are the worst of the bunch. and as a lot of Halloween fans will say "halloween 3 does not count". That being said, I would say I enjoyed the directors commentary of Halloween 5 because it gave the director a chance to defend his choices of why he did what he did. I think it's much better than sitting through the whole movie wondering "why did they do something stupid like that". I dont agree with most of his choices but at least I understand his mind set a little better. Besides, hardcore halloween fans have to buy every Michael Myers related offering anyway so why should this one be any different than the twelve copies of the original Halloween we buy just because it comes in a different style case?

  5. Halloween five?
    Wasn't one and two enough?
Clearly not for Hollyweird, who insists on beating the franchise to death for every last penny.
Michael survives yet again to terrorize everyone in the most gruesome fashion.
This film doesn't even resemble the original in any way and the story is getting cornier with each installment.
    A psychic connection???
It reeks of desperation the Hollyweird's part for a story line of ANY kind.
And Michael getting broken out by the person in black sets up part six which is also a disaster.
    For hardcore Halloween fans only.
I can't recommend this, it's just your standard blood and guts with a sorry story line.

3 comments about Too Cool for Christmas.
  1. Children under the age of eight may enjoy this. Over that age it stretches credulity to the point where it snaps completely. It's a morality tale that loses its way long before the ending in sheer disbelief at what you're seeing, at least if you've made it out of grammar school.

  2. Finally a studly Santa. This movie is pure fun. I enjoyed this movie because it was really entertaining and and something different on the Xmas theme. George Hamilton is great as the new groomed but still gentle and kind Santa. Brooke Devin is delightful and the ending with Donna Mills a great twist. As for credibility, C'mon folks this is a Santa movie.

Perhaps the ending had more meaning for me than others because I had the same story line happen to me with my little brother when I was 19. (Minus the ride with Santa)

Lighten up this a great holiday movie.

  3. I enjoyed this new take on the traditional Santa Claus tales. George Hamilton was a refreshing, familiar face to see in this updated version of teaching the Christmas Spirit to today's youth.
