- The original, full-length version of this classic is not available anywhere, for any cost. If you watched this on HBO growing up, you will not be able to find the same version. There was a VHS version that has since become unavailable. There never was a full-length, unedited version available on DVD. Even the version with Kermit on the box has been signigicantly edited. This is what's availble. It sucks, but for $10.00, it might do to hold you over until the people at Henson Productions get their act together.
- This is the one with Kermit the Frog in the intro. Kids still love this story.
- Bought this as a gift for my husband to replace his VHS copy. Cute little movie, very appropriate for small children, feel good message, one small part in town with the "bully" where he screams "Shut UP!" which I wasn't too happy about, but you use your own judgement with small children. Overall a good addition to your muppet movie collection.
- I loved this movie when I was kid and now I have bought it for my kids. This teaches of sacrifice and working together to make things ok. Everyone should have this movie in their library.
- My kids loved this show when they were little all the way up to growing up at 25 my son still liked this little film..

- This video shows all different ways to celebrate--Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukah. It also demonstrates ways people can show they care during this festive season. It deals with the holidays in a positive and constructive manner to demonstrate what the true meaning of this time of year should be. My daughter loves it!

- "A Very Classic Christmas" features the usual collection of public domain Christmas cartoons from the 30's and 40's, interspersed with some live-action Christmas vignettes and sing-along songs. The vignettes and sing-along's make for a unique touch on this DVD.
The real standouts of the collection are the Fleischer Bros. cartoons, and Ub Iwerk's spooky "Jack Frost." Being from the 30's and 40's, several of them are depression-influenced, showing sad-eyed orphans and poor kids lusting for Christmas treats, and may contain a few stereotypes of an unpleasant nature, but nothing terribly shocking. Definitely for lovers of old cartoons only, or very young children who don't mind the different styles and slightly odd characters. The DVD is of poor quality, which is expected for such ancient cartoons. Restoration takes money, and this collection of public domain prints is just to get them out there. Nothing fancy, but nice to have in any format. The eight cartoons are: Christmas Night (a.k.a. Pals, James Tyler, 1933) Jack Frost (Ub Iwerks, 1934) Christmas Comes But Once a Year (Dave Fleischer, 1936) Somewhere in Dreamland (Dave Fleischer, 1936) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Max Fleischer, 1944) Santa's Surprise (Seymour Kneitel, 1947) Snow Foolin' (Izzy Sparber, 1949) The Christmas Visitor (John Halas, 1959)
- The toons in this set are not classics because they are so great, but rather because of the fact they are vintage toons from the golden age of animation of the 30's and 40's before studios started making the animation cheaper with less frames.
Jack Frost is an Ub Iwerks toon from 1934. Jack Frost arrives in the forest, painting the leaves on the trees and warning the animals to prepare for the winter. An inquisitive young grizzly bear decides he wants to see what the world looks like when everyone else is hibernating. When Old Man Winter catches him unawares, however, he needs Jack Frost's help in getting back home to his warm bed.
Santa's Surprise (1947) features the first appearance of Little Audrey. Little Audrey and some other kids stow away inside Santa's sleigh. While Santa sleeps, the kids decide to give him a Christmas present of his own
"Somewhere in Dreamland" 1936 is a Fleischer studios toon. It's the story of two poor children who are out collecting firewood when they pass by a toy store, market and finally a bakery. They drool over the wares in the bakery window but walk away before the owner can come out and present them with two cupcakes. The kids go home and eat a meager supper before going to bed. They both dream they are in dreamland, where everything is free--cookies, candy, cakes, popcorn and toys. When they wake up it's all gone but the three merchants have stopped by to lay out a huge feast for them.
"Chrismas Comes But Once a year" Fleisher from 1936. A group of lonely kids are given broken toys, leaving these sad youngsters without a Merry Christmas. Professor Grampy, sees the unhappy kids. The brilliant inventor puts on his thinking cap to find a solution this problem. He heads into the orphanage and creates a series of homemade toys from kitchen utensils. Then he decorates the main room with soap chips, cotton and other items, creating a Santa suit from red cloth, stovepipes and a red bag. He rings a dinner bell and calls the kids in. The kids, seeing Grampy as Santa, rush in happily. They play with their new and better toys.
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Fleischer 1944. The Fleischer version of the classic tale.
"Snow Foolin'" Paramount 1949 Singalong about the first day of winter, when all the animals go ice skating. It is December 21, and the animals in the forest must contend with a literal avalanche of snow. Winter is not all that bad, though. After donning their winter coats, they will be able to enjoy themselves skiing, skating on a frozen lake, and tossing snowballs. In just a few days, one and all will be singing "Jingle Bells."
"Pals" 1933. The Little King is feeling low on Christmas Eve, so he joins a pair of homeless bums in admiring the toys and holiday decorations in a department store window. The ever-childlike monarch smuggles the hoboes under his robe into his castle. They go to his room and undress. Then all three climb into a tub and take a bath together. Afterward, the three get in the same bed while the queen sleeps in another room.
"The Christmas Visitor" 1959. Santa Claus comes down the chimney on Christmas Eve. As he unloads parcels, he takes a break to smoke a cigar, and settles down to enjoy the feast prepared for him. The toys that he has brought escape from their packages. The parcels unwrap, and the toys come to life. A beautiful doll is captured by a villainous jack-in-the-box. A rescue attempt by wooden soldiers is repulsed. Just as the doll is about to be run down by a train, a sailor switches the points. Santa finishes his cigar, casually replaces the toys in their boxes, and proceeds on his way.
Six of these toons are on the Classic Cartoon Chrismas DVD so this one is the better to get as it comes with 8 toons vs. 7. The quality is average at best.

- This video gives a very good overview of the wildlife parks in Kenya. However, it provides only little information about the culture and society of Kenya.
- LOVED this DVD! This is a MUST HAVE if you are planning a trip to Kenya and also for folks like me who just love Africa. It gives a great feel for Kenya, the wildlife areas, the animals and safari vacation activities.I really felt like I was there on my own Kenya safari. I thought the DVD was very complete showing the many spectacular places like African bush, mountains and even beaches that a safari could take you. But BEST of all to me were the many great animal and exciting wildlife scenes---all the ones you would want to see on a safari--lions with cute cubs, cheetahs, elephants with babies, hippo & rhino, crocs, giraffes, snakes, monkeys and lots more. Enjoyed seeing the African dancers and the Arab sailing ship scenes-- and also the hot air balloon ride and the really clear underwater scenes. The swimming with whale sharks scene was amazing! Great photograpy throughout. I was really surprised at how many things there are to do on a safari vacation and enjoyed seeing all the different types of places you could actually stay. Also appreciated the narration that gave lots of information & answered lots of my questions about Kenya. In addition to the nice long movie part, there was a well organized button selection feature that enabled me to pick the special things I wanted to look at in depth-- like certain parks and areas and some particular water sports activities. This was a really well done, informative and exciting to watch DVD. I would really recommend it --especially if you are going to safari or vacation in Kenya.

- Updated to current day, but still just as charming and enjoyable as the original. Elliott and Gibb are believable in their attraction, and the young actor who plays "Timmy" is engaging. It's nice to see a movie where the only villians are human foibles, and all the characters are likeable.
- Good movie, good theme. Movie is clean and moral. Highly Recomend. I do not know how it compares to orignal, but the re make is a great, funny, inspirational movie.
- I fell in love with the original version of this movie starring Robert Mitchum one Christmas when it was broadcast on TV. Last year I saw this version with one of my favorite actors - David James Elliott - Harmon Raab from JAG. This version is a very good update to the original. The storyline and characters were very believable. I couldn't believe the price increase for the train though! If you need a holiday fix or want to spend a few hours enjoying a nice old-fashioned movie, watch this one during the holidays. Enjoy! Happy Holidays!
- I saw the original version of this movie starring Robert Mitchum years ago. I saw the updated version last year and just watched it again. Holiday Affair is a sweet, romantic story. The updated remake is just as sweet and romantic. The actors in both versions all do a great job. Heartwarming fluff....the best kind!
- I saw this on cable recently and truly enjoyed it. I spent about 3 weeks trying to track it down on video.
Very enjoyable movie. I thought Cynthia Gibb was great in her role. It's a nice family movie. For me, it was a must-have.

5 comments about National Lampoon's Holiday Reunion.
- Do not watch this one. A complete waste of time. Watch DUPLEX instead.
- Before you ask the question, the answer is "yes". I
do spend a good portion of my free time watching
movies...and the one I just finished watching was a
side-splitter.
Any "National Lampoon" fans in the crowd? If you
enjoyed NL's "Vacation", "Christmas Vacation",
"European Vacation" and "Vegas Vacation", you will
love "National Lampoon's Holiday Reunion". If you are
a Baby Boomer (like me) you will warm up to this film
quicker than a frog on a lily pad. Then again, frog
butts are mighty cold.
The scripting, casting and editing is seamless...even
though I'm sure this was a cable TV product due to the
pauses (where commercials could be inserted).
My dear friend Darlene would love it. The lead
characters remind me so much of our long lost
friends...Mickey and Kitty. That's between Darlene
and I and I will not venture further.
Bottom line, this is a story of a big city family
transplanted into the backwoods for a "real" family
Thanksgiving. Coming out of the city shell and into
the country hell is handled so well I could not stop
laughing. What an enjoyable comedy. Mature audiences
(that means young adults, old adults and baby boomer
and bloomers) will cuddle up to a piece of life that
is often forgotten...overlooked...taken advantage of.
Here's a piece of the script. I just had to write it
down:
"I've been through every kind of weather and stormy
seas;
Now I do just what I want when I please.
I'm only getting better like a vintage wine;
And there's still a lot of livin' in this body of
mine."
In the National Lampoon genre', this one gets a solid
10. Wanna have a good laugh? Don't miss it...can you
hear me Darlene?
- UGH, i am sick of this whole "national lampoon" movie thing. The only truly funny laugh out loud, and hillarious National Lampoon movies are the VACATION SERIES, other than that all of them are just bogus and are so stupid they actually put you to sleep. I personally am i HUGE movie buff, and appriciate all sorts of movies, and am open and welcome to new ideas, but this is just ridiculous, how many movies are they going to make? and when are they going to stop? I found this to be more of a horror movie than a comedy. It tries so hard to be funny, but it fails miserably, even my cousin (who laughs at EVERYTHING) had to turn this off within 30 minutes, and it took many days for me to finnish the movie myself, i cant say exactly how long, but i had to watch it in incriments of i think 15 minutes each day, and from the second i started it, i was praying for the 15 minutes to be up! dont watch!!
- I rented this movie (thankfully, a free rental) because I love Hallie Todd as an actress. She's the only saving grace in the movie. She's hysterical, and quite a departure from Jo McGuire. The rest of the movie, YIKES! It's definitely the lowest form of humour. It has a great premise--uptown yuppie family visiting a family of hippies who are extremely backward. However, it falls flat. Unless you're a "die hard" National Lampoon's fan, skip this movie (or rent it as a free rental). I rented it free, and still felt I paid too much (in gasoline!).
- This movie was really, really, really bad. I can't believe it was even made. I thought National Lampoon would have written a better movie. Avoid this movie.
