4 comments about Cartoon Classics Starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse (The Little Whirlwind / Hawaiian Holiday / The Brave Little Taylor).
- When I was very young, my parents bought me this video, and I still watch it sometimes today. What's great about vintage Disney toons(and not just the one's on this tape), is that they're truly not just for kids. This particular video begins with "The Little Whirlwind", an inspired animated short in which Minnie Mouse makes a delicious-looking cake, which Mickey desperately wants to eat, but Minnie won't give it to him unless he earns it, so Mickey offers to clean up her yard, and I won't reveal what happens next! The other cartoons, "Hawaiian Holiday" and "The Brave Little Tailor" are very entertaining also.
- Seemingly innocent "The Little Whirlwind" gave me nightmares as a child. "Hawaiian Holiday" is okay, but no compensation for the horror that is that so called little whirlwind. Even your little niece that you can't stand isn't deserving of this. Protect your lads. Don't buy it.
- We watched this film beginning 16 years ago with our daughter. She - and we - loved it, especially "The Little Whirlwind." We watched it, over and over and over, plus all the other segments.
Today, our daughter's 18, graduated from high school, going to college and is perfectly balanced. Don't pay attention to the other reviewer who claims the "Whirlwind" is too scary. If you or your child can't handle this Disney film, just turn the TV off altogether and don't go out of the house!
- I was very pleased with purchase. Even though the tape was used it has many more hours of fun for the Grandkids. They love Mickey and Minnie!
The shipping was speedy and I will definently buy from seller again.
Thank you
Cher

- For what could have been a good concert DVD this fails miserably. Brentwood seems to have trouble with quality audio even on their CDs, but this is a disaster. The mixing leaves the singers sounding muffled and frequently washed out by the orchestra. A disappointment. Save your money.

5 comments about Santa Claus the Movie (Widescreen Edition).
- I ordered this movie because it was one of my favorites growing up and I wanted my son to see it! He loved it, just as I did when I was a little girl! The enhancements were wonderful!
- Still a great movie. Not as great as I remember, but Dudley Moore is great in it. Makes a nice change from the stuff normally on tv at Christmas.
- I haven't seen this film in such pristine glory since it's initial release in 1985 while I was stationed in England as a 21 year old Air Force airman, and it took me back to that simpler time in my life. The effects hold up very well in this new DVD (unlike previous video and television versions which looked like they were recorded straight from a TV monitor), especially the full shots of the sleigh team in flight. The only (minor) problem I had was with the film's continuity during one scene: during the chase to the North Pole, the six reindeer are at an incredible speed cutting thru the sky, but when Santa stands up in the sleigh shouting encouragement to his team, his loose-hanging coat DOES NOT flap in the wind--AT ALL!!! That has always bothered me; maybe they can do a Director's Cut sometime and fix that! LOL. In any case, the movie overall will stand as a Christmas classic, or just a feel-good injection whenever I need a pick-me-up!
- If the North Pole was anything like it is portrayed in this movie, I want to live there. The scene when Mrs. Claus had to choose green or red for the first Santa suit was awesome. He put that red coat on and you could almost hear a choir singing! And when the reindeer and sleigh took off for the first flight it was breathtaking. Five big stars for this movie. It is my favorite Christmas movie now. I have even bought it for friends so they could get as excited watching it for the first time as I did.
- I love this movie, Dudley Moore and John Lithgow are fabulous and so is the rest of the cast! I got it for a reasonable price, especially since no one anywhere had it. Thank you.

3 comments about Every Day's a Holiday.
- Celebrate New Year's Eve 1999 with this classic comedy set on New Year's Eve 1899! Legendary sexpot Mae West, super sexy at age 44 here, plays a bad girl who climbs into politics wrong by wrong (don't they all! ) She promotes husky hunk Edmund Lowe - no doubt she loves his platform. Mae is the only woman in the picture except for a few bit part character actresses - needlessly to say it was HER favorite of her own films.
- In her final picture for Paramount, Mae stars as a confidence woman named Peaches O'Day, who sells the Brooklyn Bridge and is run out of New York City; she comes back disguised (in a black wig) as French singer Fifi and exposes some crooked cops! The Hays office again came down heavily on Mae's suggestive behaviour, and this left her with little to work with. Mae's rather restricted range of expression and movement was, by 1937, beginning to pall on the public. Purity Leaguers still kept a corset on her screen dialogue, but she had just outraged both the church and press with a bawdy version of the Adam and Eve tale on the radio. This Emanuel Cohen production was actually one of her better vehicles, colourfully set in New York City of the 1890's. Mae sells the Brooklyn Bridge to easy mark Herman Bing, who's run out of town by cop Edmund Lowe and is brought back to trap a corrupt police chief (Lloyd Nolan). The lively Jo Swerling plot was scripted by West as usual, and director Edward Sutherland got laughs via pros like Charles Winninger, Chester Conklin, Charles Butterworth and Louis Armstrong. West's curves were adorned - for the only time - by the famed designer Schiaparelli. Mae made four more pictures and many stage tours before she died in 1980 at 87.
- Thanks to the censors, Mae West's final film for Paramount is a tame little farce that trades heavily on the star's (fairly lame) impersonation of a brunette Frenchwoman. Dressed by Schiaparelli, she looks great, but it's a dull affair.

5 comments about Hello Kitty: Santa's Missing Hat.
- I love Hello Kitty! I wanted to introduce her to my daughter, and so I was so happy to have found this video before Christmas.
But, like a few of the other reviewers..I was VERY disappointed they brought up the concept that Santa isn't real!! For the little ones who aren't even beginning to think he isn't real, this could plant that very idea in thier head. Granted, it all works out in the end, and Santa is proven to be real by Kitty and Mimi...but still...I don't like that they even mentioned that Santa may not be real. My daughter is too young to realize what they were talking about, but if she were a bit older, I think she would have been asking me questions about it..and then I would have been even more mad!! I would say that kids over 7 or so could understand this video, but don't show it to the younger and still innocent set!! It may jade thier minds! I will say if it wasn't for the "I don't believe in Santa" factor..I would have loved this video. The rest of it was very cute. I hope Sanrio comes out with a better Christmas Hello Kitty video! For now I will just be buying another Hello Kitty video, and putting this one away for a long, long time.
- Not a video for all ages (in my opinion). I saw this video a few years ago and bought a copy for a gift to someone and also a copy for me. I gave the gift and never thought much about it until a few years later when I had my own baby, and opened it up to watch it. To my surprise, it started talking about how Santa is not real. I felt so bad that I had given this gift to the girl I did at her age (5). Her parents must have hated me! It really should say on the back of the package what the theme of the story is to give parents a heads up. My daughter at age 2 loves the video because she is too young to understand, and just enjoys the scenes because she likes Hello Kitty. But I will be packing it away now for a few years.
***I think this is best to give to a child who is already starting to doubt Santa. It just might make them think - "hey, maybe Santa is real..." But I would not recommend this to young kids who have no doubts in Santa at all. It will only confuse them and make them start to doubt at a younger age. And that's no fun.*** It also shows a scene where the cats go onto thin ice to get Santa's hat, and it starts to crack. For young kids, we try and teach them not to go on any frozen ponds or lakes without an adult. So again - maybe fine for an older kid who knows it's just a story. But for young kids, who needs that? But now I am just getting nick-picky. All in all I tend to love Hello Kitty. And this video has great scenes and is cute, despite the above. For an older child it'd be great.
- I couldn't believe this video wasn't properly summarized on the back for parents of preschoolers!!! When I started to watch this with my girls I almost fainted when the concept of 'Santa's not real' came up- My girls hadn't even considered he wasn't real. It sort of ends up ok- but there is some lying on the parents part that is introduced. I would NEVER buy this for a young child. In fact, I cracked the case and told my girls I accidently stepped on it so they would't watch it again. How sad!!!
- tape to anyone where it may be viewed by innocent little children who still believe in the magic of Santa Claus. We just made the HUGE mistake of showing this tape to our 2,4,6, and 8 year olds. We are so careful about the videos and TV shows that our children watch, but who would have thought that we would have had to screen this entire tape for content before showing it to our little ones. Not only does it have a scene where school children are poking fun at Kitty for believing in Santa Claus, it then puts the idea in the children's heads that Mommy and Daddy just buy all of the Christmas presents when Kitty confronts her parents. At this point in the video, we couldn't even turn it off and leave this idea hanging, we desparately hoped that the video will work itself out. Then there was a scene where Kitty catches her Dad dressed up like Santa, leaving them presents, and his diguise gets uncovered when his hat blows off. He then confesses to his children, " Well I think your old enough now for me to tell you that there is no such thing as Santa." Sort of justifying the parental deception (believe me, it is worse than I described). I have got to beleive that every person that had anything to do with the creation, production and distribution of this video are TOTAL MORONS. Our daughter has alot of "Hello Kitty" products, I will NEVER purchase another thing from this company again. It almost seems that the Japanese firm that produces Hello Kitty sadistically put this video tape out knowing that it could destroy the belief in Santa Claus to thousands of American children. Because other than that, I can't possibly justify the stupidity of the people that work for this company. I apologize for being so negative, but I feel I have to warn other parents. The only thing I regret about this review is that you can't rate it lower than 1 star.
- My daughter and I loved this video. I am always baffled when parents get upset that this video "suggests" to their innocent children that Santa Claus might not be real. This concept is ubiquitous - havn't your kids ever seen a version of "A Christmas Story"? Santa Claus is not real, and why is it so important to you to perpetuate a falsehood as long as possible? Also, why would one reader immediately blame the country of Japan. This demonstrates extreme ethnocentricity, provinciality and ignorance. This DVD could have been made anywhere. One reader blamed Japan for trying to destroy thousands of american Christians [mis]beliefs. Santa was invented by the Coca-Cola Company. To think that it has a religious foundation at all is ignorant and degrades your religion. Anyway, it was a great video.

- I collect Christmas movies to only watch during the season and wanted to add this to my collection. My nieces and nephews loved this movie also. Will Ferrel is hilarious in this movie! This is slightly a different twist on the North Pole, but they did it well.
Merna
Pocket of Pearls: A 30-day pocket workbook to start hearing a softer voice inside of you!
- In a world filled with elf and Santa Claus movies, this one definitely stands out from the crowd. The movie is about a human baby who accidentally crawls into Santa's sack on one fateful Christmas day, and consequently is transported to the north pole to live among cheerful, happy, Christmas-adoring elves. And like all good adopted kids in the movies, Buddy wants to meet his biological father and sets out to find him in the most un-north pole like city, New York.
Will Ferrell is perfect for this role. He is endearing as the innocent and vulnerable Buddy. You can't help but adore him. As a critical movie watcher, I sometimes imagine certain characters with different actors, but I really can't imagine anyone else playing Buddy but Will Ferrell.
The supporting actors were all very well casted as well. They all perfectly complemented Buddy's over-the-top persona.
Jon Favreau has done it marvellously. This film is light, sweet, and hilarious! A great holiday fun!
- I don't watch too many movies more than once, and hardly ever buy any, but this clever film is a favorite of mine. My kids and I watch it every year around Christmas and regale each other with lines from the movie. I noticed my brother doing the same with his kids. (Are you an angry elf?) I am sure we are not the only ones.
I love how John Favreau tied it into the Christmas movies we watched when we were younger.
Highly recommend!
- I thought that this movie was cute. I didn't expect it to be anything like Anchorman or Old School since those are movies that I would never watch with my little nephew. It was light-hearted and Will Ferrell committed to the character well. I never thought this to be anything but a kid's movie which I think it did pretty well. I probably would rate it negatively too if I thought I was going to get an "Anchorman" performance, laden with sexual references and curse words. The film is just as it's supposed to be; light-hearted, fun and entertaining and I liked it (and there is nothing wrong with my state-of-mind;-)
Yea, it was cute.
- Someday this movie will be looked back on as a holiday classic. Fun and smart. Will Ferrell at his best. It's colorful, hopeful, and actually shows just how great it can be to believe in something.
My 4 year old daughter has watched this film about 15 times since last Christmas. I'm upgrading to blu-ray for this can't miss Christmas classic.

5 comments about Abbott & Costello - Christmas Show.
- Every year, I look forward to new Christmas releases of shows and specials from long ago. This year, I was thrilled to find out that the original Christmas special from Abbott & Costello's Colgate Comedy Hour would be released.
This was long overdue, but worth the wait- it's wonderful. It features a restored, colorized version of the hour long special, as well as the original black and white version, for those who want it just as it was shown. Abbott & Costello's routines are very well timed, as usual. It's fun to see them in a different light, compared to the many Universal monster spin-offs that we all love. Sprinkled in between the acts are original commercials for household items like Palmolive soap, and Colgate toothpaste, and last but not least there are special guest appearances from musical talents such as Margaret Whiting, the Four Pipers, Al Goodman and his orchestra, and other great guests such as Tom and Jerry the acrobats.
The bonus features add a nice touch to this nostalgic release. There are individual Christmas messages promoting the Christmas Seals program from stars like Virginia Mayo, Rosemary Clooney, Ingrid Bergman, Gary Cooper, Ray Milland and many more (8 different messages to be exact). These add even more holiday enjoyment, reminding us of those times when issues like tuberculosis were at the forefront of our every day living.
So, when you choose this great vintage treat, sit back, relax and enjoy your Christmas season with two of the funniest men of all time, and Christmas wishes from our very best stars. This is not only a piece of our holiday history, but it's something any family will enjoy, young or old.
- This 1952 episode of "The Colgate Comedy Hour" has made the rounds before, but Legend Films now offers a new colorized version. This writer wondered whether a kinescope (a black-and-white reference copy filmed off a TV monitor) could be effectively colorized, and the answer is a definite yes.
Bud Abbott and Lou Costello are at their very best in these Colgates, performing their familiar routines in front of a studio audience. The shows were broadcast live, so the anything-can-happen atmosphere is electric, giving Bud and Lou new spark. This one is notable for three routines: Bud trying to get Lou assaulted so they can collect damages; Lou singing "White Christmas" with Al Goodman's orchestra, leading into the old Milt Britton arrangement of "Poet and Peasant" where the musicians make a shambles of the stage. By far the funniest bit is the "recipe" routine, in which Lou stuffs a Christmas turkey... with Bud! Lou can't stop breaking up when he prepares Bud's "noodle" for the turkey, and this delightfully low comedy routine is worth the price of the DVD. There is also a lengthy variation of the team's "Pack, Unpack" routine involving Christmas presents, which looks under-rehearsed: the cast members casually improvise most of their dialogue on stage.
Veteran comedy foils Sid Fields and Dorothy Granger are on hand, with musical specialties by The Nicholas Brothers, Margaret Whiting, The Four Pipers, and dance team Buster Shaver and Olive Brasno, plus Tom & Jerry, a good acrobatic act. The vintage-1952 commercials are also included.
Great print quality (especially for a kinescope) and great entertainment for the whole family. This new color version is highly recommended.
- This DVD is a must for Abbott & Costello fans. This show reminds of the old Carol Burnett Show in a sense where Lou tries to hold a straight face while delivering his lines, but fails. This makes it all the more funny. This DVD also showcases a good variety of guest stars.
- The very positive reviews for this disc persuaded me to purchase it, and I was not disappointed. There is a spontaneous, under-rehearsed quality to the sketches and it makes for some hilarious moments. Lou's frequent ad-libs add to the fun, something you don't get to see in their films. The makers of this disc are to be commended for providing great sound and video, and for the inclusion of the original television commercials.
- Abbott & Costello have always been favorites of mine...this
christmas DVD did not disappoint.
