5 comments about Holiday Affair.
- Updated to current day, but still just as charming and enjoyable as the original. Elliott and Gibb are believable in their attraction, and the young actor who plays "Timmy" is engaging. It's nice to see a movie where the only villians are human foibles, and all the characters are likeable.
- Good movie, good theme. Movie is clean and moral. Highly Recomend. I do not know how it compares to orignal, but the re make is a great, funny, inspirational movie.
- I fell in love with the original version of this movie starring Robert Mitchum one Christmas when it was broadcast on TV. Last year I saw this version with one of my favorite actors - David James Elliott - Harmon Raab from JAG. This version is a very good update to the original. The storyline and characters were very believable. I couldn't believe the price increase for the train though! If you need a holiday fix or want to spend a few hours enjoying a nice old-fashioned movie, watch this one during the holidays. Enjoy! Happy Holidays!
- I saw the original version of this movie starring Robert Mitchum years ago. I saw the updated version last year and just watched it again. Holiday Affair is a sweet, romantic story. The updated remake is just as sweet and romantic. The actors in both versions all do a great job. Heartwarming fluff....the best kind!
- I saw this on cable recently and truly enjoyed it. I spent about 3 weeks trying to track it down on video.
Very enjoyable movie. I thought Cynthia Gibb was great in her role. It's a nice family movie. For me, it was a must-have.

3 comments about Christmas Coal Mine Miracle.
- I enjoyed this movie but it was a little disappointing, and was not at all what I expected. It was a very suspenseful, interesting and gripping story. It is not your typical Christmas movie though, and although it gives you a warm feeling at the end, it is quite depressing in parts. I thought Kurt Russell did an excellent job in his role as Johnny (He is so adorable). He was the hero in the story, so his fans will really enjoy this one. I found Melissa Gilbert to be a bit flat in her performance and it was hard to get used to her being a bratty child (throwing a rock through a store window, etc). It is natural to expect Laura I suppose, as it was filmed in the 70's when Little House on the Prairie was in its heyday.
The story line has a very mature theme and I would rate it as PG. Good for family watching with older children, but parents may want to discuss parts with their children/teens. The older daughter is a bit troubled and is desperate to get away from the Coal Mining town. She looks for this escape in her boyfriend Johnny (Kurt Russell). She is openly depressed about her virginity and tries to get her boyfriend to become more intimate with her. However, he tells her no, that they are going to "do things in the right way". So there is a bit of good morality there and the film might be a good discussion starter for that topic. At the end of the movie we are left with the impression that they will be getting married within the year. The main theme is the unfairness of the managers of the mine and that they force the workers to work in unsafe conditions. Tragedy strikes and by the end the workers agree to band together to fight the unfair practices. The story is also about love and family togetherness. Although most of the movie seemed realistic, parts did not. The younger child in the family seemed too old for that rocking horse! Also, what father would not reprimand his daughter when seeing her throw a rock through a store window, even if the store owners were "the enemy"?
- This movie is one of my all-time favorites. While the acting may seem a little stilted in places, it is a gutsy representation of real life issues...lots of complicated issues such as one man's struggle to overcome his fear of working in the mines and be the husband he needs to be, or a teenage girl's fear of being an old maid in a coal mining town, or the struggle of a father/husband to respect authority yet still stand up for what is right (just to name a few). Each of these issues sees some resolution in the movie and in a way that makes us feel good about it. I am especially fond of the part where the mother explains to her teenage daughter what it really means to love a man. I have three daughters and this is the kind of "stuff" that I want them to hear. I also have a son, and this movie represents for him what makes a "real" man. Such models are unfortunately rare in Hollywood. Summation: It's a movie with heart! (And yes, Kurt Russell does an awesome job as Johnny.)
- Another great Christmas movie for the family get together at Christmas

5 comments about Kenny Rogers Christmas Special: Keep Christmas With You.
- I first saw this special on TV back in the early nineties when it first came out. I was really glad I'd taped it, because it's never been shown since, and I was still able to watch it year after year. Now, it's finally been released on DVD, and the quality is even better (*much* better than my own home-recorded version, especially). Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood are on top of their game, and Boyz II Men provide amazing renditions of holiday classics. What I find to be the best part of the special, though, are the kids. The chemistry between them and Rogers is magical, and they all have wonderful voices: from Drew's somewhat nervous solo to Maggie's tremendously soulful alto, these five kids will truly warm your hearts and help you to Keep Christmas with You.
- The DVD came on time and was in excellent condition wish they had more kenny rogers singing like the one he did for halmark.
- Disappointing. Fast forwarded through the entire thing and regreted spending my money. I also ordered and received the Donny and Marie Christmas Special. Though I wasn't asked to review it, don't order it. Far too wacky. Where are those wonderful Julie Andrews and John Denver Christmas Specials???
- I enjoy Kenny Rodgers, but this special was filled with too much children, and very few of Kenny Rodgers actually singing Christmas carols as I expected it to be.
- This is a very entertaining dvd. I like Kenny Rogers and enjoy his singing. My husband and I enjoyed watching this dvd

5 comments about John Denver - Montana Christmas Skies.
- Overall an excellent video. The only thing that keeps it from being a 5 in my book is the interuption of some songs with talk that is not related to the song -- the most glaring occurs during the song "Wild Montana Skies" when after 2 verses it is interupted for a cowboy poem (about a cowboy's bad luck when it comes to marriage) when the song resumes it is for the ending chorus.
If you love John Denver then this DVD is a must have.
- I am thankful that John Denver was a contemporary of mine. He has inspired and motivated me during most of my adult life. Only John Denver could have given us Montana Christmas Skies. I cherish its beauty, its warmth, and its message. John Denver's music is a Christmas staple at our house, and this DVD, along with John Denver's legacy, will continue to touch my heart and spirit in the years to come. I recommend John Denver's music in general, and Montana Christmas Skies in particular, as nourishment for the soul.
- I found this DVD in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart. Not being a particular John Denver fan (I like some of his stuff, but for the most part I can take it or leave it) I decided to take a chance.
I was very pleasantly surprised. JD, Clint Black, Kathy Mattea, and Patty Loveless jammin' in the barn is the best! Personal highlights for me are Clint Black's "Till Santa's Gone", Kathy Mattea's "Christ Child Lullaby", and Patty Loveless & Kathy Mattea do a great duet of "Someday Soon".
There are other highlights too like the JD classic "Grandma's Feather Bed", John singing "Rudolph" and "Away In A Manger" with a group of kids, and the bittersweet emotions evoked by John singing "I want to Live". Although I'm not a number one fan, the world is a much sadder place without him.
If you're thinking twice about purchasing this video, think no more. It's a wise purchase that you'll enjoy for years to come. I know I have.
- This is a wonderful John Denver live concert. Enjoy this one along with John Denver's Wildlife Concert. This one mixes in some nice holiday music. Good sound and video quality on the VHS tape. Some of the songs are:
1. Away In A Manger
2. Someday Soon
3. Grandma's Feather Bed
4. Jingle Bells
5. Feelings Of Love
6. Wild Montana Skies
7. Eagles And Horses
8. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
9. A Change In The Air
10. I Want To Live
(Amazon Marketplace)
- John Denver loved Christmas! And it really shows on this DVD. I have a tradition of watching this every year, and I never tire of it. The songs are beautiful, the scenery gorgeous, and it's fun seeing John singing along with some wonderful country singers in a barn. The barn atmosphere brings a real intimacy to the entire experience. Some highlights for me are "Christmas for Cowboys", "Someday Soon", " A Change in the Air", and the Scottish lullaby that Kathy Mattea sings, while rocking a tiny infant. That song never fails to bring a tear to my eye!
If you love John Denver, or even if you don't, I highly recommend this Christmas DVD. I think it will become a family tradition to watch it every year in your home too!

5 comments about Spot's Magical Christmas.
- I love this video! My daughter (2yo) loves it as much as my husband and I. Spot is an adorable character. The other characters are equally loveable. The one song/dance number with the reindeer is quite amusing. My daughter always gets a laugh out of it. What most appealed to my daughter was the similarity between the video and the book, Spot's First Christmas. We've been watching the video (AND reading the book) everyday since we bought it. A must-see for any toddler!
- Based on the Spot stories by Eric Hill.Spot's Magical Christmas (1995) was an enchanted story with magnificent music and Classic Walter Disney (1901-1966) animation.Good illusrations.
- As a Spot sound book collector and one that's on the quest to watch all the Spot episodes and specials, I'd say this is by far the best Spot video of the bunch I've seen so far. And I've almost seen them all, including the only-released-in-Britain "It's Fun to Learn with Spot" series. The only one episode I haven't seen, at least not completely, is the "Spot and His Grandparents Go To the Carnival" special, which I caught only a split-second of on TV in Singapore little more than 5 years ago and got me started on this journey.
In any case, in this special, Spot meets with some reindeers who work for Santa and somehow lost the sleigh while testing it. The reindeers do the tango, Spot goes gather up his friends and go find the sleigh. Then Spot is whisked off to the North Pole, visits Santa's workshop, and then back home again.
The dialog is the most witty I've seen in the Spot series so far, and the lips of the characters actually move to reflect the speech - something that was not done before (due to the fact that in the original British airings of the series, the entire story is basically just narrated and voiced by one person. The Disney dubs of the series basically tried to add more voice variety by adding more casts, and were met with mixed results). I personally have no qualms with either format, but some people I know was put off by the fact that the lips of the characters does not move to the speech in the series, and would probably be pleased by the change in this special (the change is only temporary, tho. When Spot's Musical Adventures a.k.a Discover Spot was released, they reverted back to the old format).
All in all, it's a nice series. My copy of "Spot and His Grandparents go to the Carnival" should be in my mail anytime soon, so we can see how this one holds out to it then. Until then, I consider this one of best, if not the best, of the bunch.
Ratings: Five RAM Chips, 2 thumbs up, etc.
- I'm surprised at the rave reviews people have given the Spot Christmas video! We have them all - and this is the only one that my now 4-year-old son just walks away from! It's boring boring boring, in our opinion.

1 comments about Texas Lightning.
- When I heard that one of my favorite B movies from the 80's was coming out on DVD I was happy!! I ordered this DVD from MEDIA BLASTERS / GUILTY PLEASURES (known as RAREFLIX on EBAY) for a reasonable price. After quick delivery I anxiously put the disc in to watch!
Well.... first the good news. The old saying "Better to have something than nothing" is true. The Bad News? To start the source print is less than spectacular. The film is dirty, grainy at times. Multiple splices throughout disc. Full Screen transfer, no widescreen. Extras include 4 trailers from other films. There is a 'promotional' trailer of "Texas Lightning" on disc which is nothing more than the montage of scenes from the film's end made up as a teaser trailer.
Also to squash any rumors that might be floating about regarding the 'MAUREEN MCCORMICK NUDE SCENES', Uh.. They don't exist. At least not in this DVD version. Yes she does have a fling in a motel with one of the central characters but nothing more. I do recommend the VHS tape from MEDIA HOME VIDEO if you can locate it. Their transfer was from a better quality 35mm print. However if you are dying to see this film and do order the DVD, don't say I didn't warn you.

3 comments about Lena's Holiday.
- There's only 1 thing to view in this movie, her perfect and beautiful body. Don't you think so?
- This is a cute movie that is entertaining enough to keep your interest, but not one that ranks among the great romantic comedies of our time. There are a number of lesser-known bit actors in it (how long has it been since you've seen Bill Dana in anything?), and Nick Mancuso is clearly enjoying himself as he overacts playing the lecherous, famous, and rich Hollywood photographer. But the beautiful Felicity Waterman steals the movie with her charismatic charm. I'm surprised she hasn't become a more famous actress, as her presence lights up every scene (even if her fake German accent gets annoying after a while).
The widescreen transfer to DVD is decent, but not great. This movie is worth a viewing, and you may fall for Felicity Waterman, as I have, but it probably isn't one you'll add to your collection.
- Released in '90 'Lena's Holiday' is a unchallenging but well-intentioned, mildly entertaining film. Predictable storyline, plodding script and no surprises at the end. However what it does have and the reason why it receives a 3 star rating is solely for the presence of the exceedingly lovely Felicity Waterman as Lena Jung. Who could resist falling in love with this naive, vulernable beauty with the cute accent who finds herself all alone in Hollywood with the wrong suitcase and a couple of murderers in hot pursuit. Also starring Chris Lemmon (Jack's son) as Lena's love interest. His physical resemblance, mannerisms and voice are so like his Father it's spooky.
Make no mistake about it, if you watch this film to its conclusion it's because you, like me, have fallen completely in love with Lena.
