  1. I knew this dvd would not be worth the price, but I was lured in by my 2 yr olds love of the Higglytown Heroes and JoJo. There are only two actual episodes on the dvd, one Higglytown and one JoJo's Circus. Then there are a couple other shorts that have no holiday theme whatsoever. We have another Playhouse Disney holiday vhs from a few years ago and it was the same thing, one holiday episode and the rest not holiday at all. While my kids and I love Playhouse Disney, you would be much better off recording the shows yourself.

  2. This movie is precious! I have 2 boys ages 3 and 5 and this is the second Christmas season they have watched it and they love it! It really will get you into the holiday spirit. The Jo Jo's Circus story is a nice reminder of giving during the holidays, and putting other's first. The Higglytown Hero's story has lots of snow and shows what goes on at the North Pole. The 2 songs Twinkle sings are really just beautiful. It also teaches that being with loved one's is the nicest part of Christmas. There are 2 Shanna's Show shorts, one about a ballerina, and the other about a postal worker. So these aren't exactly about Christmas, the rest of the movie sure is!

  3. My children love this video. However, I will not let them watch it. I was very upset with the Higglytown Heroes episode. Twinkle sings about Christmas and that you can't have Christmas without your family around you. I caution all military families to not buy this video. It is hard enough to have to spend holidays without family members without having a cartoon sing about how miserable you are.

  1. She put this dvd in and watched for about 2 minutes, and wanted to stop it. I also did not feel this DVD to be entertaining.

  2. Very sweet story about giving. Includes a little about the very first Christmas. My six-year-old son LOVES this one.

  3. A little girl discovers a town that has never heard of Christmas before and decides to help them celebrate their very first christmas in this animated children's adventure.

5 comments about A Season for Miracles - Hallmark Hall Of Fame.
  1. A Season for Miracles was a predictable movie but a good one. I have read several good reviews about the movie so I want to concentrate more on the actors and actresses. Carla Gugino, whom I first saw in "The One," a SF movie with Jet Li about multiple universes did an excellent job playing Emilie Thompson kidnaping' her niece and nephew to prevent them from being sent to foster care. Her niece played by Mae Whitman again showed her acting talents. I saw her not too long ago in "Hope Floats," another movie I would recommend." And Patty Duke played a believable angel. She does good in these kind of parts. I remember her playing look alike cousins, Patty and Cathy Lane in a situation comedy years ago, and I saw every episode. I have seen many of her movies and would see a movie just because she was in it. Lynn Redgrave did a classic job as the judge. The two elderly sisters are someone I would like in my family. This was a fun movie and my wife and I found it quite enjoyable. We were a little disappointed as we both hoped the returning lawyer would also be as friendly as the rest of the townsfolk and would somehow find a way of letting Emilie and the children `inherit' the big house but it ended well as it did. This review was about the Hallmark movie presentation.

  2. This is one (affirmative) family movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat on the first viewing. Will they be caught? Will the children be taken away from their aunt and given into the care of strangers? The fact that the man interested in the aunt is the local police captain adds to the tension. The resolution is credible and miraculous only for those who believe that nothing good ever happens.

This movie does a good job of presenting life in a small town without turning the town into a make-believe toy town, as so many Disney movies do. And the children are real and believable without being brats. Moviemakers who think that children have to be brats in order to be real should watch this movie.

If you like this movie, see the Little House on the Prairie series (if you haven't already). Also, Mary Christmas. Also, A Thanksgiving Miracle. All of these will lift your spirits and make you feel at home.

  3. I LOVE THIS MOVIE,AND DESIRE TO REPLACE OUR VHS COPY TO DVD.WE WATCH IT ALL YEAR LONG,THOUGH IT IS A CHRISTMAS MOVIE.I LOVE ALL OF THE CAST.AND I LOVE THE FEELING THAT IT LEAVES ME WITH,AND WILL HAVE THIS ON MY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING LIST FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

  4. The best thing about this movie is the acting. All of the charactors filled their parts so well that you forget it's a made up story. Carla Gugino convincingly potrays Emilie Thomson - a strong young woman trying to do whats best for her "kids" while being torn between duty and love in a society where red tape sometimes gets in the way of human needs. Her romance with the young police officer, Nathan Blair, was touching. I just wish they had taken the extra mile with the faith thing. Patty Duke played as an angel, but there was nothing about God or Jesus. It's weird how you can talk about angels and no one gets upset, but if you talk about God and Jesus, some people will lable you as religious and narrow minded. I also wish that they hadn't made Nathan "turn" on Emilie when he discovered her true identity. This movie is too short for that to be put in without messing up Nathan's charactor development. It certainly didn't do anything to help with the progression of his and Emilie's relationship. Probably the only reason why they put it in there was for a suspense ellement, and to teach a sound bite lesson on forgiveness . . . but I think it would have been better without. Thus said, it was a nice show and I'd reccomend it.

  5. I loved this movie from the moment I first came upon it. The plot is excellent and keeps you deep into the story wondering what will happen next. The actors are marvelous, each in his/her own way, very natural - in fact it reminds me of the old Jimmy Stewart movies that were so heart-warming, but this one is contemporary with modern themes. The film takes place at Christmas which is an added bonus. But I watch this movie throughout the year, whenever it comes on the Hallmark channel or if our family needs a group hug, I just pop it into the VCR. I highly recommend this film.

  1. Tonic Sol-fa has done a remarkable job with this DVD. I've been a HUGE fan of theirs for about 8 years now, and let me tell you.. This is THE BEST music that I have ever heard them sing!! It's one of my favorite dvd's! I can't stop listening to it! They sing songs like 'Joy to the World', 'Baby King' (MUCH better than on their Carol CD!), 'Little Drummer Boy', and 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen', along with NEW songs like, 'Come To Save the World', 'On This Christmas Night', 'Ay Yi Yi It's Christmas', 'Seems Like We Owe Them More Than That', and 'Nuttin for Christmas'...just to name a few. This DVD is a MUST for ANY Tonic Sol-Fa fan! You WON'T be disappointed!

  2. I randomly stumbled across the last 10 minutes of this being broadcast on PBS at about 2AM Christmas Day, and was sufficiently impressed that I went online immediately afterwards and purchased the DVD. Great arrangements/harmonies, perfect intonation, and very personable.

  3. I too, like one of the other reviews I read just happened to turn PBS on, on Christmas day but only got to see the last few minutes of the brodcast. I also immediately found out who they are and ordered the dvd and also one of their Christmas cds. They are fantastic and I can't wait to receive my order.

  4. By chance I saw this group preform on PBS. I was very happy to purchase this 'Christmas' performance and be able to enjoy it over and over again. What a talented group of young men, just delightful!

  5. Terrific entertainment from this uniquely talented group!!! Will appeal to any age group. Everyone should see and hear this!!!!!! Ron

5 comments about Silent Night, Bloody Night.
  1. This was an interesting film that was par for the time it was made. The filming was sort of interesting especially when showing the view of the serial killer(The First person view sort of speak). The story was pretty good yet a tad over the top but as you know most horror films are a bit over the top. There is one really bloody scene at the beggining of the film that was graphic but after that don't espect too much blood. I thought this scene was done well and pretty graphic even for today's times. The music in this film is a bit hokey on certain parts but not too bad. The acting was not horrible but it was'nt great either. The part of the film that really stands out to me is the flashback scene. This really made the film spooky. The strange filming it used and the crazy story it explaned helped me like the movie alot more than I otherwise would have. The dvd version I saw came in a four horror film pack called horror classic's. I thought the sound could have been improved and certain scenes could have been transfered more clearly to the dvd but I guess I should just be glad it was even made into dvd format. Overall I think the film is worth a watch or two late at night.

  2. I purchased Silent Night Bloody Night as part of a Horror Classics set at Best Buy, and I've got to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Not that it was a perfect movie, but one of the better "b" movies that I've seen. Maybe not quite as good as movies like Black Christmas, Terror Train, etc., but not bad.

First, the bad things. The movie honestly is pretty slow moving, mediocre acting (but no worse than most other "b" movies), and lousy picture & sound quality. Also, the ending to the movie wasn't overly dramatic (but it was acceptable), but I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the movie.

But, despite these few criticisms, the movie was well directed, and the creator of the movie definitely knows what "horror" is. Creepy score, suspenseful in that the killer's identity is hadden until the end of the movie and you don't get to see too much of the killer too soon in the movie, and a couple of graphic scenes in the film that got my attention. Just enough gore to be effective, but not over the top.

If you don't like slow moving, low budget movies, then you probably won't like Silent Night Bloody Night, but for most of you, I think it's definitely worth watching at least once.

  3. I saw this back in 82 when WOR out of New York use to have their 'Fright Night' movies on Saturday nights at 12:00 midnight. I've always loved this movie and still think it's scary to this day. The phone calls and sepia toned flasback scene are especially creepy. This will probably sound totally stupid to most people but I like the way this looks on the DVD release. Yes the picture quality is murky and sometimes its hard to see whats going on in a few of the scenes but that's the way these movies looked back when I use to catch them on those late night fright shows and I kinda like remebering them that way.

  4. "Silent Night, Bloody Night" is a low-budget, poorly edited but compulsively watchable 70s horror flick concerning the escape of a maniac from a mental institution, with an ax (figuratively and literally) to grind with the citizens of a small community that has more dirty little secrets than Peyton Place. An abandoned mansion sits, menacingly in the dark of night, luring some of the town's most prominent members via whispering, creepy phone calls. But who is it? And why? The sheriff's daughter, Diane (Mary Woronov) meets the grandson of the home's original owner, Jeffrey Butler (James Patterson), and the two set out to investigate what is going on. It turns out that both of them are closer to the mystery than they would care to be - with many frightening turns and revelations that I wouldn't think of giving away. One thing about the film that is irritating (besides the choppy editing), is that the top-billed performer, Patrick O'Neal, has a brief bit early on as a real estate agent who, along with his attractive girlfriend (Astrid Hereen) is brutally butchered in the Victorian style bedroom of the ancestral home. Why wouldn't Patterson and Woronov be first in the credits, since their roles are far more prominent? John Carradine gives a very effective performance as the town mute who also has a past entangled with Jeffrey's grandfather, Wilfred Butler.

The shoestring budget can be frustrating at times, particularly during the flashback sequences, and the late night darkness makes viewing more difficult, but it also adds to the atmospheric quality of the production.

And if you know what's good for you, watch when you're not alone - or every noise you hear will make you think that you are the murderer's next target!

  5. While not a high budget production it still manages to deliver some chills to the viewer. Just get out the popcorn and a soda and set down on a stormy night and enoy an old fashioned thriller.

  1. This is a family tradition in our house: decorating the Christmas tree to a Muppet Family Christmas. So sad that it has been taken out of circulation as I wanted to purchase it for my children so that they could take it on with them and continue the tradition. It's all the muppets at their best. I hope it is rereleased soon.

  2. We have been watching this for years. Unfortunately, in the DVD version they've cut out a couple of songs and the comedy routine between Fozzie and the Snowman (Reindeer, SNOW Darling!) If those hadn't been cut this would be 5 stars for certain.

Why don't they re-release this intact? All songs included and COMPLETE! Look at the prices people are asking for the used versions. Of course I wouldn't sell ours at twice the price.

Mom! Son! AaaAaaaah!!! Watch out for the Icy Patch!!!

  3. I like many others bought this anticipating not have to watch a VHS recorded TV copy anymore. To my disappointment, they edited out all the best parts, what a disgrace to Jim Henson!! I bought the DVD which is now collecting dust. I watch a worn out VHS tape that's twenty years old. I would rather sit through tracking problems and the tape skipping, than watch the "new" edited disgrace that was once my beloved Muppet Family Christmas. They should let people know that it's been edited. I enjoy watching my tape with Osh Kosh B-Osh, M&M's, Milk, and Extra Gum commercials. I rather sit through old commercials than watch this DVD that has disgraced the Jim Henson name!! For shame on whoever won't pay money to let the DVD be unedited! Don't they have enough money? Why do they have to mess with a legacy? They're all greedy jerks and I will continue watching my 20 year old VHS tape until the unedited version is out and I recommend this to everyone, DON'T BUY THIS!!!!

  4. Like everyone else, I am disappointed that there are parts missing from the video version of the show. Luckily I was able to find the original one on Limewire and download it for free. It's the one that is 587 MB. Hope this can help some other people get the real version!!

  5. There sre so many of us that are suffering without a copy of the unedited version of mupp. fam. christmas we remember as children....... i beg for one of you out there that owns such a copy please please please make a copy and sell it so i can pass it on to the rest of us, i will pay whatever u want, vhs, beta, dvd, dont care i need to find this before its too late...ANYONE???? please respond!!!

1 comments about Christmas... A Time for Joy.
  1. The styles are varied in this wonderful show, but the quality always high, with renditions of familiar classics along with a few original songs, with some numbers that are truly thrilling, among them the opening song, a bluegrass flavored "It's a Time for Joy" with Karen Peck and New River, the Gaither Vocal Band with David Phelps doing an exquisite tenor solo on "The Christmas Song" (and Mark Lowry doing Johnny Mathis !), "Children Go Where I Send Thee" with The Bishops giving us harmonies from heaven, the country rockin' sound of "Go Tell" with The Martins, and best of all, "Mary, Did You Know ?" (music and lyrics by Mark Lowry and Buddy Green), sung by the Gaither Vocal Band featuring an emotionally stirring solo by Mark Lowry. The words, melody, and interpretation of this song fills my eyes with tears when I hear it...the disc is worth it for this number alone.

The music is so inspired, I probably would have preferred less humor...one segment in particular isn't that funny and has a "secular entertainment" feel to it, but that is a minor quibble when compared to the overwhelming spirit of this disc, which I'll enjoy any time of the year, with the musicians and singers giving 100% of their talent, and moving one to praise and worship the Lord, in the true spirit of Christmas.
The show was filmed in the Alabama Theater, a lovely ornate theater in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2001, and total running time is 90 minutes.
The DVD extras include an interesting piece titled "Project Spotlight" with people like Joni Eareckson Tada, and subtitles are also available.

  1. Home for the holidays is a great little horror, suspense film with a Christmas, family homecoming setting. Sally Field is very young, and surrounded by more mature and experienced actors but really manages to hold her own. Eleanor Parker and Julie Harris give excellent performances as well and this little gem will hopefully find it way to DVD in the very near future. From there it will quickly add to its considerable cult following. I can't believe it hasn't already been released on DVD. Don't miss this film and don't forget the popcorn.

  2. Little did they know! Several academy award nominees, Julie Harris, Eleanor Parker and Jessica Walters not to mention veteran British actress Jill Haworth starred in this scary suspense flick directed by Dan Curtis. We also have Academy Award winner Walter Brennan in one of his last screen roles. Little did they know they were working with a future two time Academy Award winner, Sally Field. She isn't my favorite actress, but she was cute. This film has a lot of mood and music touches by "Dark Shadows" director Dan Curtis. Searched in vain for the out of print laserdisc, perhaps there will be a DVD release.

  3. I was really happy with the tape and the fast service.I remember seeing this on T.V and really being scared. The entire cast is wonderful.I recomend this film it's a gem!

  4. I was surprised to be able to find this movie. I haven't seen it since I was little. I really liked it and watching it again was enjoyable.
