5 comments about The Tangerine Bear.
  1. My 3 year old daughter loves this movie. We borrowed it from a friend (VHS Format) and enjoyed it so much that we purchased the DVD. After placing the order with Amazon, I read a review which indicated problems with the DVD format. I just want to let anyone who is interested know that the DVD which we received works just fine, and we have enjoyed multiple viewings with our daughter. It is a terrific holiday movie.

  2. I did not hear of this movie when it was released and only bought it because I came across it (on DVD) in a local store for $3.99 and figured I couldn't go wrong at that price, especially with Tom Bosley, David Hyde Pierce and Jonathan Taylor Thomas on board. I was pleasantly surprised. I think it has a nice story line, good characters and nice music (good job with narration and songs, courtesy of Trisha Yearwood). My daughter wanted to watch it over and over and over. We even made Tangerine Bear cut out cookies that year! She loved it so much I went back and bought another copy to add to my niece's Christmas gift. When my niece opened it her mother was astonished, "How did you know she LOVES this movie, we get it from the library all the time!?" (We shared the cookies too!) I bought it for my niece based on my daughter's reaction and it turned out to be a good call. So from a child's stand point it is fabulous, and this mom is fond of it too. Don't expect Disney animation, more like Saturday morning cartoons, but I'd pay full price if I hadn't found such a deal.

  3. This is a very cute kid's movie, while at the same time being warmly touching and entertaining to any adults who are obliged to watch it. This is a perfect movie for Christmastime. Reminiscent of the old story "Cordouroy" or even a little bit of "The Velveteen Rabbit", it will tug at the heartstrings and make kids from one to ninety-two smile with warmth and emotion.

The story follows an adorable little bear at Christmas time who, after not going home with a lucky child, ends up on a discount rack in the big toy store, and then finds himself in a lonely thrift shop in New York city with a few other toys looking for homes. The sun fades him to a unique tangerine color, hence the name "Tangerine Bear". He ends up becoming lost in the big city during a snowstorm, followed up of course by the requisite happy ending where he finally finds a home, sure to please your kids during Christmas, as the storyline is that of a Christmas movie.

Much better than you'd expect for the price. I was actually expecting it to be the price of a regular kid's DVD considering that the quality is on par of or exceeding that of most other movies in this genre. I received this movie as a gift for my little girl a few years back, lost it, and just recently ordered the DVD version so she can watch it for Christmas. As a lover of kid's movies, this is definitely a worthwhile addition to any animated collection.

  4. A most wonderful movie. It is a tradition in our family. A touching and moving story of a little bear looking for a home and not realizing that he already has the perfect home. It brings me to tears and joy.

  5. the movie came fast couldn't ask to be any faster. i watched this as a child and i couldn't wait to see it again i wasn't disappointed . it a great movie for young kids to watch without any parents concerns. these days that hard to find. it a wonderful movie your kids will love it ..

3 comments about Ren & Stimpy - Classics 2.
  1. why did anybody review this one, maybe their too scare, cause these two epidoses are probably the most groundbreaking, most demented and conterversational ones ever! the first one features Ren waiting for his swedish cousin SVEN! once he arrives he has a body of Ren but a personality of Stimpy. Stimpy and Sven being a lot of mishaps, which makes Ren mad as mad as he can get (sure Ren does get mad, but he loses it here). The Second one feature Ren becoming jeolous over Stimpy's popularity of the show. Ren began another rage, even crazier then the other time. These two epidoses are incredible and brilliant! When will R&S go on DVD! WHEN!! MAN I JUST CAN'T WAIT!! REN & STIMPY ARE BRILLIANT!! and amazing!

  2. By 1994, Ren & Stimpy were the most popular cartoon characters on Nickelodeon, and the humor was still just as wild as you could ever expect from the cat with no tail, and the egotistical dog, Ren. Nevertheless, the cartoon still remain as the most zany toons ever made for older kids of course. But sometimes, there are only two shows rather than one on a collection. This one is the only one that has had that effect.

The sequel to Ren & Stimpy's classics, Classics II, contains two double-length animated cartoons. The first one Swen Hoek, is one where Ren & Stimpy encounter a visit from Ren's cousin Swen. Ironically, he might be a relative of Ren, but he acts more like Stimpy, which outrages REn to the fullest level of anger. It just comes to be so bad, that Ren destroys a toy that the two enjoy, and sends all three of them down below. All because ren excreted on the electric fence, one of the zany animated, fictional products that were introduced on Ren & Stimpy.

The second cartoon, Stimpy's Fan Club, deals with what animated characters are like when they recieve mail. Ren unfortunately, doesn't get any mail, because all the mail always goes to the stupid players, Stimpy of course. Stimpy invites Ren to become his president of his fan club, where he answers all of the fan mail, and answers some everyday encounters people always face. Unfortunately, the crazyness Ren has with being too nice gets back on him. At the of the cartoon, he finally gets a piece of fan mail fron his only fan, Stimpy.

It is just so awful that Nickelodeon stopped broadcasting Ren & Stimpy awhile ago. Yet, they really broke the level for zany adult humor that we see in cartoons like The Simpsons, King Of The Hill, and The Oblongs. Anyway, if you've never seen Ren & Stimpy before, I suggest you get this video, you eediot!!

  3. Hi! The Ren and Stimpy Classics 2 is so funny! It comes with a total of 3 enjoyable episodes. The first is called "Sven Hoek." It's about when Ren's cousin visits from somewhere on the other side of the world. And he finds kinship in Ren's home-with Stimpy. Next is the classic "Action Log ad." THen the last episode is called "Stimpy's Fan Club." It is when Ren and Stimpy get their mail one day, all of it for Stimpy. So Stimpy lets Ren help the staff of his fan club, and that's when trouble happens. I recommend this tape to anyone over the age of 12 because of the humor.

  1. What a waste of time. A very poor ripoff of the far superior Ground Hog Day. Don't bother with this piece of coal.

  2. This movie has a decent plot but becomes annoying along the lines of the movie Gound Hog Day. The same day being played over and over again get real old for me. Nonetheless, worth seeing once.

  3. Had the main character been as endearing as Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day" this may have been more palatable. Since that was not the case you kept hoping for something redeeming or different. Not gonna happen. So this just isn't really worth your time. In fact it will quite possibly give you a headache watching the same pieces shown over and over so you can see what he does different to try to fix it. I can suggest far to many Christmas movies that are better. On a replayability scale "Christmas Do-over" won't be done over, so this gets a zero.

  4. It is a real shame that they could not get this movie correct. It was bad enough how horrible the dad was in life. But then the writer and Hollywood did not get it that the perfection was when he let everyone else's needs come first. I am glad to have seen the movie from a rental because I would have had to throw it away if I had bought the movie. It is a shame because the director did handle the repetitive days and dialogue so that it was still entertaining. But the writer did not understand when his story was over.

5 comments about One Magic Christmas.
  1. As a child, I grew up watching a VCR recorded TV presentation of this film every Christmas. I was thrilled to own the DVD since I no longer have that old recording. I have always loved the message the movie presents about finding the Christmas spirit, and that sometimes it's right in front of you even if you can't see it. It's moral is somewhat like that of "It's a Wonderful Life" however the story is different and takes a few turns that leave you breathless. It was filmed probably in the 80's or early 90's so the quality is a bit less then perfect, but it does not distract from the story whatsoever. I definitely recommend this movie for all families to own as it is my personal favorite.

  2. My brother and sister and I used to watch this movie during Christmas Time when we were young. This year I bought each a dvd (and one for Mom and Dad too!). This is a heart-warming movie for the entire family--it makes me feel like a child again and all the magic of the holiday season comes back to life for me. Hope it does the same for you. Merry Christmas!

  3. I asm very pleased with the DVDI like Christmas movies and hope others will be available that are not available now!

  4. This is a heartwarming tale heralded by the critics when originally released. This is a story of an over-worked Mom in a middle-class family that has lost the spirit of Christmas. An unlikely angel is sent to help her recapture the magic of Christmas. After many years I could no longer find it on television. I was thrilled when I found the DVD on Amazon!

  5. This has always been one of my favorite Christmas movies...a reminder of what is most important - the loved ones in our lives-- and how easy it is to get caught up in the miseries of the world - and forget the Magic.

  1. Movies like this make Christmas very special. Another classic Christmas tale no house can do without.

  2. Awkward, formulaic, even leaden at times: there's just something about the sentiment in this movie I can't resist. Certainly not Maureen O'Hara's best and John Payne's done better stuff, too; but Edmund Gwenn carries the movie pretty much all on his own.

This is a nice print and the supplemental materials are interesting. So go on: it's the holiday season and guilty pleasures are allowed.

  3. This product contains both an original black and white and a colorized copy of the original Miracle on 34th Street. Personally I feel that colorization is a major travistry but.. The black and white original is the cleanest, clearest copy of this classic that I have seen in years. The original cast is so good that there have been several remakes all of which were a waste of time. This is the definitive copy of a timeless story.

  4. I watched the original black and white version. It looks and sounds great. I didn't buy the video for the special features, so I didn't pay much attention to them.

I would recommend Miracle on 34th Street to everyone, young, old, or in between.

  5. This is a wonderful Christmas movie. If you love old movies this is a perfect one to get.

5 comments about Brand Spanking New! Doug: Doug's Secret Christmas.
  1. THIS MOVIE WAS ONE OF THE WORST VIDEOS I EVER SAW! THE ANAMATION WAS BAD THRE WAS NOT ONE GOOD THING ABOUT DOUG'S SECRET CRISTMAS! IT WAS DRAGED OUT AND THE BONUS EPISODE I MEAN SITTING THROUGH ONE WAS ENOUGH! PLEASE DON'T BYE THIS BAD VIDEO YOU'RE WASTING YOUR HARD-EARN MONEY!

  2. I liked this cartoon because it is a break from the norm. So often holiday cartoons and specials seem to overlap each other. Doug's Secret Christmas is different. In this video, Doug and family learn that there will be a new addition to the family. In all the chaos of preparing for the child's arrival, Christmas traditions are overlooked, causing Doug to create his own "secret christmas". There is also a bonus cartoon of Doug on this video, which deals with Doug, his sister, and their new sibling. All in all a nice video, well worth the money, and one that the entire family can sit together and enjoy.

  3. It a great movie for the Holiday, and it new.Buy It I have and It make you of yourself at that age,and the Bonus cartoon is cool.Trust Me and don't belive that who said is the worst, it not.

  4. Dougs so broing the charecters voices suck and why are so of the charecters skin green and blue. Hello? do we live in the simpons world? I really don't get what the crator is trying to tell us bad anmations cool? Doug knows nothing? Having blue skin is coo.........ZZZZZZZ opps sorry just thinking about this made me dose off. Still if you looking for a good old ncikloden cartoon watch rugrats or the first epsoides of sponge bob. This is a waste and not even worth 1 cent!

  5. This is a great holiday movie, watch it every christmas. I wish they would release the whole show on dvd or just this episode. I always loved watching it and it was a popular show to watch when I was a kid.

5 comments about The Easter Bunny Is Coming to Town.
  1. Another claymation classic! I remember very little of this as a child and as I rewatched it, it all came back to me. If you enjoy Santa Claus is Coming to Town, you'll enjoy this. It has many similarities with questions being answered about the main character, mountain villians who turn nice, somber towns, a cruel ruler, catchy songs, memorable, adorable characters, etc. Sunny the Bunny is adorable with his rosey cheeks and the chickens are so sassy. And bringing back Fred Astaire at the Narrator was a smart choice. I recommend this DVD or the one made a few years back. The nice one about this is the DVD has a paper cover over it and Sunny has fuzzy fur you can feel. It may be cheesey at times, but give in to your inner child and have fun!

  2. Joseph Brando's review is spot-on; everything he wrote is accurate to-the-letter concerning yet another ridiculous and unnecessary Warner reissue of a Rankin-Bass animation classic. 'tis such a shame that R-B titles have been so badly botched in recent years. Remember the godawful Destiny's Child video slapped onto the "Original Television Christmas Classics" box set a few years ago???

Now, let me address the previous revewier, "A. King". Umm... I hate to tell you this but you don't appear to know much about Rankin-Bass animation. The studio did not use Claymation in its animation but the tried-and-true wire armature process. Think the original King Kong... and a Happy 75th B-day to you, Kong!!! ;) 'Claymation' is a term trademarked exactly 30 years ago by it's creator, Will Vinton.

With that said, buy the original release of The Easter Bunny Is Comin' to Town and have a blast with Sunny, Gadzooks and the Big Rock Candy Mountain!!!

  3. Between the train, Gadzooks the bear, and all the cute songs on this video, my 2 yr. old watched this dvd several times.

My husband and I liked it because it "explains" all the rituals of Easter: why do we color/hide eggs, why do we get new clothes, Easter bonnets, chocolate bunnies/jellybeans, etc.

The extras were, in my opinion, lousy, but that's not what I bought it for.

If your child(ren) enjoyed this video, I'd also recommend getting "Peter Cottontail", another Rankin-Bass video my son loved.

  4. I think this is a cute movie. My 3-year-old like it. It's like the old Santa clause is Coming to town movie and Frosty the Snowman. It's a classic. Glad I have it in my collection.

  5. I have a copy of the 2006 release of "The Easter Bunny Is Comin' To Town" and this 2008 Deluxe Edition and have compared them. The deluxe edition has definitely improved the quality. I checked it on our tv and computer. It isn't noticeably clearer, mind you, but the motion is less choppy, more smoothed over, making it a better video to watch. I'm not sure why the 2006 version was like this. The old VHS tape we have of it was smoother than the 2006 dvd, too. All in all, it's a fun, good feelin', holiday classic that an avid Rankin Bass fan like me can't do without. People, if you get a copy, save your eyes and get this newer one.

5 comments about Handel - Messiah (250th Anniversary Performance) plus FOR EVER AND EVER, a documentary.
  1. This is a very good performance. I am not a music expert, but I previously enjoyed Andrew Parrott's performance Handel: Messiah very much. And like it, this performance utilizes a contratenor. The video lets you enjoy a concert performance anytime you're in the mood. There is also an audio CD available Handel - Messiah / McNair · von Otter · Chance · Hadley · Lloyd · Marriner. I'm glad to have both the DVD and CD.

  2. The orchestra using instuments used in Handel's time were enjoyable. Made it seem more authentic. The chorus was good and so were the solo singers.

  3. I have a number of versions of the score for this, and there are a lot of pitch and rhythm changes in this performance that are NOT based on what Handel wrote (and I am not talking about solo vocal passages, with their rather awful improvisations...but ensemble).

The tenor is awful! He sings sharp at important points. The Basso Continuo is completely lost in ensemble.

Marriner himself seems to give a very perfunctory, uninspired reading.

The strings and brass are, as usual, fine.

Therefore, I completely disagreee with everyone that has written here.

  4. The orchestra and chorus are superb as is the video. The ornamentations used by the (especially the female)soloists are in maginal taste and quite often jarring. Buy something else!

  5. Nev Marriner and the ASMF can usually be relied upon to produce a sparkling performance, and they and the ASMF Chorus do, in this Dublin performance to celebrate the first performance (in a long-disppeared venue in Fishamble Street). In particular, Mark Bennett, the trumpeter, playing a modern piccolo trumpet, produces the best trumpet part in "The trumpet shall sound" that I've ever heard, naturally far better than Valentine Snow could have played it with his natural trumpet.

So what's the problem? The tenor and bass soloists, that's what. Both are major disappointments. Especially with note runs of the "And I will sha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-(etc.)-ke". The notes are not clearly enunciated and just plain tuneless. It spoiled the whole thing for me.

For a really top DVD version of "Messiah", seek out the ABC (as in Australian Broasdcasting Corporation) Shop, which is selling a an absolute knockout Downunder version as a CD/DVD package. I expected a Region 4 DVD (I have a code-free player), but the DVD appears code-free. The bass Terry Tahu Rhodes is especially good (there are clips on YouTube).
