5 comments about Baby Santa's Music Box.
  1. We received this as a gift and from day one my son was entertained. This was his first Christmas season and because he is so young, we did not get out much. We thought this was a great introduction to the sights and sounds of Christmas. He loved just about everything in the video especially the children and babies. The sparkling ornaments and children dancing around made him laugh and talk. The music is really vibrant and the puppet shows are always a favorite. He loved the penguins and the polar bears...real and puppets. Great from start to finish!!

  2. We are huge Baby Einstein fans, but this is very disappointing! The video is very short (yet doesn't cost any less than the others) and really lacks the creativity the other BE videos have. The music for this video is not up to usual BE standards and it is the only BE video our 15-month-old son walks away from! I would definitely NOT recommend buying it. Hopefully the Baby Einstein people won't make another mistake like this - it's annoying to spend money on something this second rate when you've come to expect more!

  3. My 16 month old son LOVES his "HO HO HO" video! Yes, it's simple & kinda slow, but for a toddler, it's perfect. He doesn't get any of the other Christmas shows out there yet, but he does get this one. We are big on Christmas in my family & this is just the first step in teaching my son the magic of the Holiday Season!

  4. Baby Einstein's Baby Santa's Music Box
One of the earlier releases in the now popular Baby Einstein video series, Baby Santa's Music Box is an unpolished version of the wonderful videos to come later in the collection. Relying more on music and visuals as the sole entertainment than some of the others, Baby Santa began the formula of the Baby Bach and Baby Beethoven videos with stimulating visuals set to music. Unlike the more advanced videos in the Baby Einstein series designed for older babies and toddlers, this one is entirely non-verbal and will appeal to infants as young as one month of age. Visuals rely heavily on the Baby Einstein Puppets albeit the earlier versions, visuals of ornaments and Christmas decorationas, animals playing in the snow, and lots and lots of children. The soundtack is holiday instrumental musical tunes from different countries around the world such as England, Ireland, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, and the United States yet all rendered in similar orchestration by the Baby Einstein Music Box Orchestra. Appropriate for ages 1 month and up, the simplicity of the video combined with some more engaging puppet visuals will likely entertain your baby until around the 18th month. The video is short, but you have the option to "repeat play" as well as play the music without the video.

Like most of the other videos in the Baby Einstein series, this one is designed as a `video board book' for your baby and offers you the opportunity to interact with your child in the same way you do with books as well as act as a distraction for that deeply needed parental bathroom break. Most of the DVDs in the series have the option to "play" or "repeat play" and are about 20-30 minutes in length -- the repetition being very stimulating and comforting to the younger set.

While I don't think viewing Baby Einstein DVDs will make my infant "smarter" she sure does enjoy them! They give me a great way to interact with her as well as a few minutes here and there to get a few things done around the house. Their ability to calm her when she's fussy is already legendary in our household.

Here is information on all the current 21 Baby Einstein DVDs including suggested times to introduce them to your little one. This information IS NOT available with the DVD sets but I gleaned it from several sources for my own use. You may like to print this out for future reference.

Note: All the Baby Einstein DVDs are "region 1" which means they only play on machines in the U.S. and Canada.

  1. If you were growing up in the 1940s/50s and 60s, you'll probably remember most of Leroy Anderson's hit songs of the 50s (they seem to refer to it as easy listening music today), but it was a time when music was melodious and catchy and you could at least whistle or hum a pop song. What a wonderful and humble composer he was!

This DVD is exceptional for its content, with lots of archival footage of Arthur Feidler and the Boston Pops, Ed Sullivan Show, and even John Williams. There are excerpts from Leroy Anderson's most memorable tunes as well as some interesting interviews with Anderson's family and his peers. The DVD is presented in full frame 4x3 because the material comes from a time before widescreen TV. For its time, the picture quality is quite good. Some of the audio is mixed in stereo. If you enjoy quality music and want to reminisce about 'happier times,' then this is the program made just for you! Enjoy your trip down memory lane.

5 comments about The Best of Andy Williams Christmas Shows.
  1. The reason I wanted to buy this DVD was because I really miss the old fashioned Christmas Specials. It seemed they used to go to alot of trouble with the sets, had great guests, and they all just seemed so happy and Christmasy!

Yes, the Osmond Brothers are featured, and they were great to watch, as they are such an incredibly talented family, but there were no other guests except for people that I assumed were part of Andy's family, but who weren't introduced, and so I'm not sure. It really would have been nice to know who they were and how they were related. It would also have been nice to see some other guests, as that is always such a big part of Christmas Specials. I guess I was expecting that.

This is The Andy Show. Lots and lots of close ups of Andy, posing and singing goofy-eyed into the camera. The sets are a hoot, as are the funny styles of the day, which was expected and fun to see, but what wasn't expected was how much Andy comes across as quite full of himself (he really does!), and I don't remember thinking that about him before. We didn't finish watching the whole DVD.

Would I watch it again next Christmas? Well, it will have been a year by then, and I will have forgotten most of the negatives, so yes, maybe on a slow TV night if my husband is out. I don't think he'd watch it again.

Knowing what I know now, would I buy this DVD again? Yes I would, if only to see the Osmond Brothers, but I also would have tried harder to get the Bing Crosby DVD, which says it features other guests on it.

  2. The Andy Williams Shows clearly showcase great talent and worthwhile entertainment. The Christmas shows in particular are a family tradition in my home. These shows need to be remastered and shown more often. They just don't make em like this anymore

  3. What a shame that this DVD is out-of-print. It's an absolute gem containing the finest Andy Williams Show moments.

Outstanding sets, songs, music and guests. Lots of rare footage of the Osmond Brothers appearances, Bob Hope, Andy's kids and brothers.

You don't find a lot of Christmas DVDs that you want to watch more than once. This is an exception. Can't say enough good things about it.

  4. I didn't like this DVD as well as the other Andy Williams special I purchased this year. This one is a colelction of excerpts from various shows instead of being a cohesive show in and of itself. That made it a little disjointed and harder for my kids to watch than if an entire show had been chosen. Still the adults did enjoy the stroll down memory lane!

  5. Remember when the Holiday Season on TV ment the variety specials with Bob Hope, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Andy Williams? I miss them. All you see now are those sappy holiday romance stories or the animated kiddy features. This DVD is great and includes musical numbers with Andy and the Williams brothers. And the Osmonds are a scream. Donny can't be more than 5 years old in the earliest scenes. If you own White Christmas and watch it every year, this holiday DVD is for you.

5 comments about The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus.
  1. As a child of the 80's, I grew up with the Rankin/Bass version of "The Life and Adventures of Sants Claus", and it was and still remains one of my absolute favorite christmas specials. The music was gorgeous, the characters endearing, and it was obvious that great pains were taken to bring it to detailed life. Such is not that case here.

I saw this once through and can't stand to see it ever again. The supporting character, Whisk (Tingler from the R/B version is waaaay better) is as annoying as JarJar Binks was to SW Episode I. They made the Awgwas absolutely stupid and completely non-threatening in their appearance AND portrayal...AND the good-guys couldn't even pronounce Awgwa right...and let's not forget that in this version Nikolaus is somehow OBLIVIOUS to the fact that his best friends are going to war for him. The characters feel very wooden to me, and the animation of them is sub-par here as well. In addition, the music score is very forgettable...and as a musician that is a very hard thing for me to say.

Overall this is an extremely dissapointing retelling of a story that was already done to near-perfection. Stick with the book and the Rankin/Bass version, and avoid this like the plauge.

  2. I am a mom of a four and six year old, and this is our very favorite Santa story to watch. The cartoon does a great job of capturing the enchantment and warmth of Frank Baum's story of Santa Claus. Many questions young children ask about Santa such as his age, etc., are magically answered in this must watch tale. I put this movie on for the kids when family came to visit and found even the grandparents sitting down and intrigued by the story. The music is perfect for the storytelling, and the lessons learned in this movie help my children appreciate their life a little more. This movie is an absolute must for children and adults of all ages. This is the perfect movie to watch with the entire family on Christmas Eve.

  3. This version of The Life and adventures of Santa Claus is a pale, saccharine sweet sham when compared to the supurbly done stop motion animation of the 1985 version of this same story done by Rankin / Bass. This felt cheesy and half-hearted whereas the stop motion animated one has the distinct feel of a classic and was more true to the heart and feel of the old story by L. Frank Baum.

The story is good but it feels dumbed down compared to the stop motion version. A seldom known fact, Baum connected this story to his loved The Wizard of Oz by saying the immortal faeries of this story are the ones who enchanted the land of Oz to begin with.

  4. While I really enjoyed this alot I would recomend mostly for kids but veryy fun videao, seller sent fast and in good condition

  5. I see alot of ppl reviewing like this is the 1985 special with just a new case. It's not I've seen this remake on television. It's been aired on Disney Channel I believe. They took the original book and the concept from Rankin-Bass' puppet adaption and just used tradition animation to remake the exact same film. I don't like how they remade alot of the characters and the original will always by far be the best because Rankin/Bass were and are cutting edge in my mind.

5 comments about Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
  1. In the prominent, well-known, and award-winning movie Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer, FHE, (which is) also known as Family Home Entertainment, presents the most famous cartoon of Christmas. With all of its history and fanfare one would not expect a disappointment. Incessantly and irritatingly, though, Burl Ives wrecks the film as he interrupts, dances, and sings throughout all of the key moments in the movie! Perhaps singing and dancing make for a family-friendly movie, but at what expense? Leaving this narrative without any content rating whatsoever, the producers of the film neglected also to provide any content because they were more concerned about its suitability. Rudolf the reindeer relinquished its' ratings. To be fair though, the qualities that are lacking for some must have been heavily compensated for in the eyes of others in order to receive award-winning film status. If any movie escaped having been rated less than this classic, I must have missed it. Despite its shortcomings, the film succeeds in producing a very clean and prize-achieving storyline.

As you may not be aware of, this is the story of a dumb deer, bestowed with the name of Rudolf, and who lives in a fantasy setting. As described, the narrator of the story is the talking snowman that follows Rudolf in his travels as a likeminded misfit, and consequently he gradually, and yet somehow calmly melts to death when nobody is looking. This is not revealed however. Dotting the landscape with white snow, the leitmotif weather of Christmas annoys viewers with a bland background of white snow. Within this setting appears a young deer named Rudolf with what appears to be an irritating pimple on his nose. It is so big that it looks like a cherry tomato. He tries his best to cover it with mud because it is not just an ordinary pimple. It has the magical ability to glow like a nightlight! In addition to this defect, Rudolf and all of the other young reindeer have small horns that stick out of their heads like lumps of black licorice. Now, is that not silly? This important youngling also runs away since he is made fun of and meets up with a complete stranger. This stranger is a toothless runaway elf who wants to be a dentist! And so the portrayal of Rudolf continues as he squeaks about with a high voice and a short outcast of the elf society.

Although scarcely a conflict, the storm that had arisen became so strong that it prohibited Santa from applying navigation techniques, and because he was too dumb to have his elves create a flashlight, he was just about to cancel Christmas. The storm was a blanket. Santa, (who was) previously regarded as not so bright, now fires his toothless dentist wannabe. This brings Rudolf full circle. Meeting up with this ostracized elf, Rudolf seeks a new life so he teams up with the dwarf. Along the way, these two misfits meet an ignominious, oblivious, and selfish man who licks gold for a living and whose name is Cornelius. Cornelius helps them to ward-off the Abominable Snowman. After they had pretended to escape this defenseless giant, the three characters moved on to a greater cause, leaving their past in the tumult of Global Climate Change. The world's toymaker primarily suffers however from the inability to see though a storm and he has to find a solution other than search lights and that becomes the highlight of the movie at this point in the narrative.

Rudolf finally discovers hope. Above the wreck of confusion the two absentminded teenagers, (who were) having trouble fighting, racing, and competing with the storm, finally reappeared at their homes. Santa had been patiently waiting for the two because he wanted to reward them. Surprising even the smartest critic, these two outcasts saved Christmas. The poor old Abominable Snowman that I mentioned earlier is invited to top the Christmas tree with a star. The tree had been erected as a part of the huge celebration for Rudolf, who could light the way through the storm with his nose and prevent Christmas from being cancelled. Unfortunately this version of the film shows the narrator being left outside in the lonely cold and kept out of the marvelous party. If he was upset, the poor snowman did not show it, for he actually chuckled to see the outcasts enjoy themselves before they would be put to hard labor the next day. This ends the silly adventure of the pair of lazy kids. They lived happily ever after.

Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer is a rather depressing film because it unfortunately had a sinister motive. Rudolf actually indoctrinates little kids. Unfortunately, Rudolf the reindeer, (who was) previously regarded as being up to no good, is a movie that seems to say O.K. to running away from home but only to return after being chased by a curious monster and a snowstorm. When I am told that this movie is a classic, I laugh because classic means different things to different individuals. Even the dramatic Gone with the Wind is regarded as a classic, but classic does not mean interesting, moral or even instructive as classic probably had been defined in the past. (The phrase, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a @#!$%^&*()_+" is considered a classic but would not have survived a normal children's cartoon.) Because of the fact that Rudolf escaped any content ratings at all disturbs me. The video jacket describes the film as being harmless and suitable for all audiences but fails to warn consumers of the possible side effects which may include drowsiness, boredom, and addiction to pain killers and even death from brain inactivity. Judging this movie personally, I will agree that it is entertaining for children, but so are the Power-Rangers, Tellie-Tubbies, and Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. I personally believe that Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer is a poor movie that should not be placed on the shelf labeled classics.

  2. Just like I remembered it when I was a kid. My son (11) also enjoyed it alot! The figures are still a great way to do animation.

  3. I must be honest, at 50, I bought this for myself. It is a classic from my childhood

  4. Charming, well-made, and with nary a car chase or half-clad babe anywhere. Burl Ives' voice alone is worth the price.

  5. This is a lovely story for Christmas time made in a special animated technique. I have watched it by first time on TV when I was a child and I prefere this kind of films instead of the modern ones that have a lot of unnecessary technical resources. The story, the technique and the music are superb ! Don't miss it for your children and enjoy it so much as I do.

  1. The star for the top of the Christmas tree can't be found! As you move thru the story, grandpa (who has recently deceased) 'connects' with Billy and shows him where the long, lost star is. It evokes feelings of love, family and home. No harsh language, only a sweet story with a moral - from a gentler time.

  1. I like the CD. Celine is nice and mellow for Christmas. I didn't know there was also a DVD included. I was surprised to see that there are different songs on the DVD. They are not the same ones as on the Christmas CD.

  2. One of the best Xmas CD there are. Beautiful. Awesome. Great. I bought it a number of years ago but I wanted to see the DVD that goes with it. Great. Really good.

  3. This is a must-have collection specialy for Celine's fans.Great Christmas music and the holiday performance live in this DVD.I like the part where Celine visited Charlemagne and recalled her humble beginnings. The only thing is suggest/wished that the DVD covers from the entire concert and there was no cuts, although the highlights were there. If we watch any of Celine's performance,it should be to the max.Otherwise,DO NOT miss this collection.

  4. This is the most excellent album specially for holiday.

    I love Celine so much!

  5. This album is so cozy and it's so family oriented. She actually has her family members sing with her. The Prayer became one of my favorite songs of all time as a result of Celine's duet with Andrea Bocelli. This album can be enjoyed year round.
