5 comments about Halloween 4 - The Return of Michael Myers.
  1. What does a horror icon, a bunch of shotgun loving red-necks, and a crazy doctor all have in common, A fun movie called Halloween 4. Michael is back and is scary as ever. He has escaped, once again, and he is heading back home. Loomis is also still alive from Halloween 2, and is right on Michael's tail. Loomis fears Michael will find Laurie's daughter, Jamie. It's a fun movie and does have it's scares.

  2. It's about time that they finally got around to making a HALLOWEEN IV resurrecting Michael Myers from Halloween I and II.

This was a great Halloween addition and Michael Myers mask was a little more sophisticated as well as creepy and ghoulish, but Michael wasn't as spooky or as sneaky as he was in the first 2 Halloweens, since Michael didn't do his heavy breathing the way he did in both Halloween 2 and the original, plus the music score in Halloween 4 wasn't quite as good nor as creepy as the music scores used in both the original and Halloween II. On the other hand, Halloween IV made a great resurrection by bringing Michael Myers back in 1988 after Halloween III: Season Of The Witch bombed at the box office back in 1982 along with the fact that me and a lot of other Halloween fanatics had wished for Michael Myers to come back as well as another Halloween addition to the Halloween saga to plot a revenge on his hometown(Haddonfield, IL) after 10 years trying to repeat the same damage and ordeal he caused in 1978.

It's just too bad they had taken so long to make a Halloween 4, which didn't finally come out till 6 years after the cheesy Halloween 3 came out, because between Halloween sequels that took place between the original and Halloween III, they ended up waiting 7 years to make another Halloween sequel with Michael Myers in it, since the last Halloween installation with Michael Myers prior to Halloween 4 was Halloween 2, which came out in 1981, which was a pretty long time to wait to bring back the successful character of all the Halloween movies, but I don't think director(Dwight Little) did as good of a job with Halloween IV as John Carpenter did in Halloween I and Rick Rosenthal did with Halloween II.

Therefore, I think Halloween 4 probably would've been better and quite a bit more shocking if John Carpenter had directed it, since he did a phenomenal job making Halloween I along with all the music scoring he did in both the original and Halloween 2.

Overall, Halloween IV was not a bad flick.

  3. The spooky atmosphere makes these films. I recommend this Film to anyone. My favourite movies are pts 1-5. Pt 1 - 3 brings me back to my youth and the DVD transfers are fine, if you are after something intelligent, this is not for you, for the films are a fun and entertaining session of good-looking horny teens getting slashed. Not great but what the hell its all popcorn stuff anyway. If anyone is interested in Halloween collectables, email taylor5821@hotmail.com

  4. To me Halloween four was the best of the series. What a way to reinvigorate the franchise. I watched this after recently seeing the remade Halloween, and have to say. This one is still the best.

The suspense is great as you watch Jamie try to escape from Michael Myers. Donald Pleaseance returns in his role as a driven Dr. Loomis.

I broughbt the Divimax to help comlete my collection of Halloween films, and was pleasantly surprised by the picture and sound quality. It was definately worth the price and still managed to entertain after all this time.

  5. After the insulting part 3, Hollyweird wised up and brought Michael back.
This was good and bad, good to have Michael back, bad because like part 2 it continues to veer further and further away from Carpenter's original vision.
Bloody, gory, a somewhat interesting story line.
I have a hard time recommending this to anyone but the most diehard Halloween fans.
If your curious though, give it a shot, you might like it better than I did.
But I though the series should have stopped with part 2 and THEN brought back with H2O.

5 comments about Herbert Von Karajan - New Year's Concert 1988 - Prokofiev Symphony No. 1 & Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 / Kissin.
  1. This was Herbert Von Karajan's last appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic. He is of course, the best and the recording a treasure. His quiet passages may be a little too soft for some, but he is a Master Conductor whom I understand delighted in encouraging young artistes. Mr. Evgeny Kissin, a teenager of about 15 at this time is astounding. His technical prowess and strength unbelievable for one so young, and his passion and musicianship superb! I bought this DVD strictly for the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 and can recommend it without reservation as an inspiration for young musicians, as well as other adult fans of Russian Music. To solo a piano concerto with the Berlin Philharmonicer at 15 - astounding!

  2. This is great but should've been longer about 1 hr 1/2 is Karajan conducting 1 piece and other 1/2 is Kissin performing w/orch. Kissin makes the dvd worth every cent.

  3. This is a magnificent recording of the Tchaikovsky in many ways. The historical value, the terrific sound from the orchestra and the fact that this is Karajan's last concert with the BPO. The only negative for me is that I've never heard the Concerto ever played as slowly as this. It is almost distracting how slow it is. The positive is that most all of today's pianists play it too fast - so this is the other end of the spectrum. The Prokofiev is dazzling and lovely to hear.

  4. I've always been a Tchaikovsky fan, but as a pianist I'd curiously been somewhat indifferent to PC1...until I heard/watched this Kissin/Karajan performance on youtube. I knew instantly I had to buy it. Apparently the boy wonder wanted it at the typical manic tempo, but the maestro insisted on expansiveness. The result is monumental.

  5. Marvelous version of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto #1. I know we will miss Herbert Von Karajan as conductor but Mr. Kissin is still around! Kissin was only 17 when this new years eve concert was recorded LIVE!

5 comments about Christmas with the Kranks [UMD for PSP].
  1. I've never hated anything more in my life than this film. It is a blasphemy to call it a real movie. Whoever wrote this movie, Jesus most definately did not die for your sins. Satan himself endorsed this God-awful abortion of a film. I just burned my hand on a 450 degree oven and it felt better then watching Tim Allen make a complete mockery of the film industry. If you buy and/or watch this movie, you are supporting AIDS,terrorism, and the anarchy of all governments...and you hate children too.Enjoy:)

  2. Ok, so I was searching for some movies to buy for my grandpa, and came across this one. I didn't buy it, but I saw it on T.V.

This movie is SO unrealistic. Everyone in the Kranks' neighborhood is upset that they aren't going to celebrate Christmas. That's the jist of it, but what about Jewish people or those who celebrate Kwanzaa? The plot is just so dumb. It's an unbearable movie.

  3. This is a great fun to watch Christmas comedy with a heatwarming ending.
My family enjoys watching it 2 or 3 times every Christmas Season.

  4. This movie was just boring. The first time watching it, I was fast-forwarding through it just to get somewhere. I'm giving it alittle more than 1 star though, because there were a few funny moments. It's a shame, it seemed like it could have been really cute.

  5. This movie is a feel good movie with some great laughs. Don't have super high expectations and you will enjoy. The end is very touching.

5 comments about Diva's Christmas Carol.
  1. This DVD is a fabulous version on the traditional "A Christmas Carol." Vanessa Williams makes a strong presence on the screen and plays "scrooge" beautifully. It is a must have for all lovers of Christmas movies.

  2. Vanessa L. Williams ("Eraser") plays the "Diva," Ebony Scrooge, a superstar singer who is in fact a very nasty lady in her private life. In Christmas she is going to sing a song or two, not for the less fortunate, but for her own purse and her "benefit concert" means another day of work for her entourage she seems exploiting. But on Christmas Eve, ghost of her former singer shows up in her suite, warning that Scrooge will be visited by three ghosts that night.

Modernized version of Charles Dickens classic story, which may look like a mixture of "Christmas Carol" and "Dreamgirls," is fairly enjoyable thanks to its actors. Beautiful Vanessa L. Williams is fun to see as Scrooge. She manages to add some comic touch to her slightly flat character. However, to me her Scrooge sometimes seems a bit too "soft" to be really like "Scrooge" due to her comic acting, which in itself is very good. She may be spoiled, but she is not definitely cold-hearted. And compared with other "Scrooges," she is very young, which means she can start over much easier than original book's Scrooge, whose love, we are painfully aware, left him forever. (Ebony's ex-boyfriend, though living with another woman now, is still by her side.) These factors are not helpful when the film has to make a marked contrast between two Scrooges, before and after the ghosts' visitations.

But I'm not saying this version is not worth watching. Among the scenes of the three ghosts the first one with humorous Ghost of Christmas Past (Kathy Griffin) is the best with the exchange of banter between the two. Vanessa L. Williams also sings songs and "Heartquake" is the most memorable.

"Diva's Christmas Carol" is not the greatest adaptation of the story, but is reasonably amusing enough especially fans of Vanessa L. Williams.

  3. I received the wrong DVD in the right case. When I notified the seller, they did give a full refund but said they could not find the correct movie.

  4. these is one of the best christmas carol movie that has been done I love these movie becz it is so funny-Vanessa Williams is really funny in these movies-its a great movie for the holidays

  5. This movie was really good I reccomend it for a fun xmas film you wont be disapointed!:) the only issue was I wish there had been a soundtrack I really loved the songs from the movie! also it is a pitty that there isn't any special features on the dvd:( over all I still reccomend it regardless of the no soundtrack or special features it is still a fun movie for everyone:).

4 comments about Stealing Christmas.
  1. Good ideas for movies are so rare that it hurts when filmmakers waste a good one. Elevating "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" to a movie for the whole family was a good idea, but the filmmakers apparently were determined to show that they were not going to be sentimental or soft-hearted about any of this. So, they made the main character a thug. Instead of transforming gradually throughout the film, he remains a thug and then turns a somersault at the end, betraying his partner and saving the town. He falls for Lea Thompson. That's understandable, who wouldn't? What is incredible is that she is portrayed as falling for him! Why? What is the attraction? He's ugly. He acts so obviously like a criminal that it's incredible that everyone isn't suspicious. This particular romance is repulsive. And as if to make sure to kill the movie, the filmmakers choose a repugnant girl to play the daughter.
So, unless you own every other Christmas movie there is, I suggest you buy something else.
I give the movie two stars because of Lea. I'm not a fan, but her brief moments on the screen are of such quality as to make all the other actors look second-rate.

  2. I absolutely LOVE this movie!! It is such a great movie to put you in the "Holiday Mood" I also think that Lea Thompson, Tony Danza and Betty White do a great job with this movie. I edited my review because I have watched this movie so many times since my first review. It truly gives you the "Holiday Spirit" if you need it!! I highly recommend this one! If you're not sure, rent it before buying it!! Happy Holidays 365!!

  3. WHO WOULDA THOUGHT I'D LIKE A XMAS STORY WITH TONY DANZA ? WELL, IT'S CUTE AND A LOT BETTER THEN SOME OF THE STUFF SHOWING ON T.V. THIS SEASON . 5 comments about Bernard and the Genie.
  1. Being a fan of Rowin Akinson(Mr.Bean) i was really surprised - this is a great Christmas Story. So when this story was finally released on DVD here in America - I was so pleased.

It tells the tale of a man - Bernard (Alan Cumming) who works for an art firm run by Akinson. After refusing to tell the sorce of new undiscovered art treasures he is fired. Then he loses his girlfriend. All he has left is a lamp, and when he rubs it - a genie comes into his life (Lenny Henry).

This is a great story - that shows the true meaning of Christmas - love, friendship and Jesus - and may even bring a tear to your eye at the end.

    Five Stars!

  2. Bernard and the Genie is a family favorite. Its been our tradition to watch this film every Christmas and no matter how many times we see it, it will never get old.
This inspired tale of a down on his luck art dealer and a fantastically over the rambunctious Genie not only will have you laughing at some good clean humor but get you into the Christmas mood as well.
The quality of the DVD isn't all that great, probably because the original film may have been lost, and as such the transfer had to be made from a VHS copy, but its a detail that can easily be looked past for the brilliance of this movie.
Lenny Henry steals the show as the ridiculously outspoken and lovable Genie Josephus!
The rest of the cast is excellently played, including Alan Cummings portrayal of poor Bernard, who finds out what Christmas really means after spending it with a 2000 year old Genie.
Rowan Atkinson plays Bernards vile and villainous employer, as the Art dealer Charles Pinkworth.

In short, this is an excellent film, one that captures the holiday spirit in an original and hilarious way.

  3. Bernard and the Genie is a little known BBC telemovie running just over an hour. Featuring Alan Cumming as Bernard, we follow Cumming as he experiences a really, really bad day. After losing his job and discovering his girlfriend is having an affair with his best friend, Bernard uncovers a genie hidden in a lamp. Lenny Henry is superb as the 2000 year old genie who is yet to discover the wonders of contemporary music, icecream, McDonalds, the cinema and the modern Christmas.

Highly recommended and certainly one of the best Christmas movies around. It was worth all of the effort used in tracking down a copy!

  4. This is a great movie in the British Comedy tradition. The songs are wonderful. Rowen Atkinson plays a very good villian and the rest of the cast is terrific. There is something new to catch each time you watch it. My whole family really enjoys it.

  5. This is a Christmas classic that ranks up there with The Irony of Fate or Have a Nice Steam Bath. The actors sparkle. The plot is magical.

5 comments about A Room With A View.
  1. This is an enjoyable love story set in Italy and England. The cast is wonderful and Daniel Day Lewis, as usual, is amazing. For those who do not care for period pieces, look for the irony and subtle humor. It is very entertaining. For those who are sensitive to such things, there is an extended scene with full frontal male nudity. As men enter the pond, it can be easily skipped over and could have been shot more discretely with the same effect.

My wife and I enjoyed the film a great deal. I felt it was better than the PBS version of the same story.

  2. A Room with a View was only Bonham-Carter's second film, made when she was nineteen. To watch her in it, one would imagine her to be a much more experienced actress. Her performance strikes just the right balance of humor and drama and combined with clever dialogue, a dramatic, passionate plot, gorgeous scenery, and a Puccini-driven score, makes for an award-worthy film.

Don't think for a minute that this is some staid, English period piece. A Room with a View is a rolicking journey through Italy, London, and the English countryside, in the company of several fine performers: Maggie Smith, Denholm Elliot, Judi Dench, and Daniel Day-Lewis. Julian Sands turns in a charming performance as a secret suitor to Bonham-Carter's Lucy Honeychurch.

The only caution I can make is the male nudity in the film's bathing scene. While it does add to the humor of the picture, I feel the full frontal nudity went too far. Did we really need to see three sets of family jewels dangling out in the open air? Leave a little to the imagination, but don't leave this one on the shelf.

  3. There is so much to like about about the Merchant-Ivory production of A Room With a View that I couldn't wait to see it with all the detailed glory possible from an HD-DVD. But I wanted to hear it too, and alas, with this Warner/BBC version of the disc I could not: It does not have a Dolby or even a basic 2-channel soundtrack. Just DTS HD.

Amazon had nothing on the site to warn of this. A sad oversight.

  4. this is a great movie created with such a good taste, with great actors, specially Helena Bonham Carter.

  5. This film is not rated. Therefore, there is no visible warning on this dvd to advise parents that they may not want their children viewing this film. There is a scene in which men are swimming that involves full frontal male nudity. This film is categorized with several popular britlit titles, but most I've seen in that genre are decent and wholesome enough to be rated G or PG. This movie should be rated R at best due to the gratuitous nature of the nudity it contains. Although this films appears to well-liked according to the reviews I've read, there should be more of a warning to those who might find content in this film objectionable.

5 comments about Original Television Christmas Classics Sing-A-Long.
  1. My recently turned 3 yr old son has developed a taste for sing-a-longs, and I thought this would entertain him. It worked so well in that respect that I fear I will be hearing Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph well into the next Christmas season! It is a little shorter than other DVDs of this genre, which means I have to hear the same songs repeatedly when he returns to the beginning and starts it over again. However, it has music and video directly from the TV specials, which means he gets very excited when "his" songs come on the television. All in all, a good purchase.

  2. This is the perfect family DVD. All ages enjoyed it over and over.
Perfect tradition to look forward to each year.
Unable to find anywhere and thrilled to have it.

  3. my 11 month old son loves this dvd. When it comes on it holds his attention, unlike other videos. It was a good purchase.

  4. Well worth it. It has the actual scenes from the movies, with the words in all caps along the bottom of the screen.

Would have liked it to have a little more, even an introduction for each song - but it's good the way it is.

  5. Wonderful footage directly out of the TV specials. However, would love to have more (this is a fairly short video)

2 comments about Honor Among Thieves.
  1. A classic 4 star old style 1960's thriller with good performances from Alain Delon and Charles Bronson. However, do not be fooled by Lionsgate's marketing department DVD cover art, this is in no way a Bronson action film such as The Mechanic, Mr Majestyk, Stone Killer, Death Wish or any number of other 1970's/1980's action rolls Bronson took on. This movie is for one third of its running time, a two man show with Alain Delon and Charles Bronson trapped inside a bank vault with little dialogue at times. Honor Among Thieves is one of four 1968 movies Bronson made in Europe after his big break in The Dirty Dozen the previous year. This one was made in France and as such is very typical of the type of movies being made in that time period. Honor Among Thieves is a small scale thriller reliant on characters with little to no action but does show that Bronson as an actor had more to offer than the simple action man roles that he ended up being type cast in. If you enjoyed other non action Bronson outings such as Twinky, Someone Behind The Door or Cabo Blanco then you will probably enjoy Honor Among Thieves also.

This movie has been out on Region 2 DVD for 3 years now under its European title "Farewell Friend". The Region 2 DVD is from a Studio Canal master with an excellent transfer to DVD with an Aspect Ratio: 1.78:1 Widescreen. This Lionsgate DVD has been presented in full screen.

It's good to see semi-respectable studio releases of some of these lesser know Bronson outings on DVD and perhaps Lionsgate may also get the distribution rights with decent DVD transfers for Rider On The Rain, Guns For San Sabastian, You Can't Win'Em All, Telefon or the two Bronson movies Paramount Pictures hold the rights to, When Hell Broke Loose and Villa Rides. This is 2007, 10 years since DVD first hit the market and still we have not seen DVD releases of Run Of The Arrow, Target Zero or A Thunder Of Drums.

  2. Farewell Friend aka Adieu L'Ami/Honour Among Thieves isn't perfect but it is a neat and entertaining thriller that sees mismatched demobbed French Algerian War veterans Alain Delon and Charles Bronson trapped in the same basement vault, one to return stolen bonds, the other to clean out the two million in wages sitting there over the Christmas weekend. Naturally things aren't quite that simple even after they open the vault, leading to some neat twists and turns. On the debit side, there's a very bizarre striptease scene in a car park, Bronson has a very irritating Fonzie-like catchphrase he uses at the most inopportune moments, Brigitte Fossey, sporting perhaps the most hideously misconceived hairstyle of the 60s (it makes her look like a bald woman whose wig is blown back off the top of her head by a high wind), is something of a liability - her "I'll cook spaghetti! I'll learn to make love well! I'll read Shakespeare!" speech is hysterical in all the wrong ways - and it's a shame about the horrible last line/shot, but otherwise this is a surprisingly entertaining and unpretentious number that's worth checking out if you can find a decent print.

While LionsGate's Region 1 NTSC DVD ios fullscreen, those with multi-region might want to seek out Cinema Club's UK PAL DVD, released as 'Farewell, Friend.' It only offers the English soundtrack, but since Delon voices himself and the rest of the cast are fairly well dubbed that's no great problem, especially since the widescreen transfer is pretty good quality.
