2 comments about Christmas Storykeepers.
  1. Wonderful animated telling of the Christmas story. Our five year old son is a big fan of this series of videos from Zondervan. Presents an exciting tale of persecuted Christians in the Roman empire who keep the Gospel alive by verbally repeating the Bible. In this video the Christmas story is told. Great for children.

  2. Zondervan's Story Keepers series is a fun way for children to learn the Gospel. Written from a broadly Christian perspective, these cartoons are ecumenically-minded and can be enjoyed by Catholics and Protestants alike. My children especially like the Easter video.

By the way, since the stories are set in the Apostolic era, it would have been impossible for the Story Keepers to "repeat the Bible"--it hadn't been written and canonized yet!

What the stories do convey, perhaps unintentionally, is the pedigree of the oral Tradition, as the Gospel was "handed-on" (the literal meaning of the word "Tradition") for decades before being written down.

1 comments about Herbert Von Karajan - His Legacy for Home Video: New Year's Eve Concert 1985.
  1. One who is familiar with the works of Herbert von Karajan will know about his unique power with orchestration. This particular DVD is no different, and in fact exceptional (again)! Weber's "Der Freischutz," Cavallo's "Pagliacci", Puccini's "Manon Lescaut," Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody #5," and Ravel's "Bolero" to be experienced on one DVD is marketing genius. The "Der Freischutz" Overture leads this DVD with a steady, almost Straussian alpine touch of individual signature pieces for building the movement, such as the magical horns that adds grace, and power to the work. It was almost like von Karajan was sending each listener through a maze, in which the mood was steady, and unyielding until Ravel's "Bolero." This is a very good example of early, middle, and later Romanticism works that von Karajan shares for this remarkable evening.
Herbert von Karajan's Legacy for Home Video is truly a remarkable collection, which the best is presented for the true connoisseur of classical music. I highly recommend this, and all others in the collection.

5 comments about Ray Charles Celebrates A Gospel Christmas With The Voices Of Jubilation!.
  1. This was beyond belief from the forced commercial at the beginning to the lousy production values and poor Ray looks and acts ill.
    Avoid.

  2. This deluxe set includes the audio cd in addition to the DVD.

I really respect and enjoy the music of Ray Charles so I hate to give this a somewhat low rating, but the overall quality of the DVD production is disappointing. If you don't dig the gospel roots from which Ray Charles sprouted, then you may not like this DVD at all. In addition, the "forced" commercials in the beginning are so annoying that the frustration with this DVD begins even before the actual concert starts.

Much of the beginning of this concert is primarily the Voices of Jubilation performing spirit filled selections of praise and worship. If you enjoy Ray Charles AND gospel music (which I do), then there is some redeeming grace(no pun intended). If Ray Charles wasn't such a musical legend and I didn't like gospel music, I might've rated this DVD with only 1 star.

Once the concert begins, the Voices of Jubilation play for quite some time before Ray Charles finally comes out to perform. After singing a few Christmas songs he then takes another long break before returning again, this time thankfully, for a longer set and ultimately, a heartwarming encore of "America the Beautiful". Despite his obvious ailing, his strong spirit seems to allows him to smile and jam on his piano throughout.

In this performance, Ray brings his own personal jazzy, blues interpretations to some popular Christmas songs and adds a few inspirational songs of praise and worship. Don't expect to hear "Hit the Road Jack" or ""Georgia" or many of the others which made him famous. The Voices of Jubilation, however, do a good job of keeping the spirit moving in between Ray's sets and throughout the duration of the DVD.

  4. I was at this concert, and it was the most amazing one I had and have ever been to. I was in the 8th row almost in the middle. If you are looking for a great concert to watch, this is definately the one!!

  5. 1. All their standard songs were changed to what THEY thought the ALL WHITE AUDIENCE would want. If they sang their normal songs, they would have been great- but they had to be RACISTS. To be RACISTS they held their notes until their voices cracked. They sang louder until they were yelling- yelling to be yelling, not praising. For this reason they were lying- pretending to be praising but were realing singing to suit their own racist minds to please the all-white audience.
    2. Ray Charles kept on forgeting his lines. At one point he was taken off the stage unexpectingly. Ray Charles should have paid everybody in there to have put up with him. He demanded top money when he was good- now he should give back when he is terrible. Fair is Fair.

5 comments about Santa and the Three Bears and The Little Christmas Burro - Animated.
  1. During my shopping in the mall, I found this DVD called "An Animated Christmas" It features Santa and The Three Bears and The Little Christmas Burro, it was priced right and seeing that my two kids are 4 and 6 years old, I purchased it. What a pleasure it was to find a nice family Christmas film without violence. These two films are a wonderful treat, make sure that you go out and buy them for your children. It's too bad that they don't make more DVDs like this one.

  2. growing up, I was so happy that I could find a copy for my nieces to enjoy. They really got a kick out of it!

  3. I was very excited when I found this and ordered it off the amazon.com website. I loved Santa and the Three Bears when I was growing up. The story is still great, but understandably lacks the luster it had when I was a child. The animation pales in comparison to what has come out now, of course, but my main problem was with the audio of the DVD. I had problems understanding what the characters were saying at some points, as the audio quality was quite poor. The words were fuzzy and seemed to blend into each other. I had to put on the English subtitles in order to follow the rest of the cartoon. This made watching this DVD a frustrating and disappointing experience. You can still buy it and enjoy it, just lower your expectations.

  4. MARENGO FILMS HAS JUST RE-MASTERED THESE TWO CHRISTMAS ANIMATED FILMS. THERE ARE NO SUB-TITLES FOR THESE FILMS... THUS THE REVIEW FROM GREECE IS HIGHLY SUSPECT. THE FILMS ARE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN... IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR GOOD WHOLESOME WAYS TO ENTERTAIN THEM... THIS DVD IS A BARGAIN.

  5. Cute TV show, but the video transfer is terrible. Like watching something from the 1930's.
