5 comments about The Dangerous Christmas of Red Riding Hood.
- What a disappointment. As another reviewer mentioned above this DVD is NOT in color as advertised in the Amazon listing. To make matters worse the black and white transfer has been done with no care whatsoever. It looks terrible. I wish I had read the Amazon reviews before opening my copy as I would have returned it immediately. You've been warned!
- This is a GREAT DVD ,wanted for years by millions of people. On October 30, 2007, this title was FINALLY RELEASED on DVD. The two poeple who have reviewed this classic here on [...], are DUMB if the can't see that this is a masterpiece. How can you go wrong with Jule Styne, Liza Minnelli, and the great Cyril Ritchard?. REJOICE and JOY TO THE WORLD !!
- I remember watching this show as a kid, and hadn't seen it since then until I bought this DVD. Unlike what others have written, I don't recall seeing a budget release of this on VHS. Unfortunately, as others have written, this is a watchable, but still substandard quality b&w kinescope transfer, and not from the original color videotape source (AMAZON, please correct the listing!).
Even if this DVD had used a pristine quality color videotape source, I would still only give it 2&1/2, maybe 3 stars. This show is a low budget (the sets look like something from a school play), over-acted disappointment. I'm surprised the cast, especially Cyril Ritchard, wasn't bleeding from their mouths due to all the splinters they must have recieved from all their scenery chewing performances. The story has a minimal Christmas connection- it is set on Christmas eve, Christmas is mentioned once or twice in one song, there's a Christmas tree in the background in one scene, and instead of "goodies" in her basket, Red Riding Hood is bringing Christmas presents to Granny (who is never seen, even after the Wolf is defeated, she remains trapped in a trunk!).
I bought this mainly because of the Animals being in the cast. Their two songs are OK; one rocks pretty good. Liza has a couple of OK songs but , on the whole it is a dated curiosity that would have been a good value as maybe a $4.99 budget disc, but not $17.99!
- Picky, Picky, Picky. Budget DVD or not - this is the ONLY version available of what is a brilliant musical comedy. Personally, I wouldn't let the black & white transfer deter you from the stellar performances of a teenaged Liza Minnelli, musical legend, Cyril Ritchard, and British Rock & Roll stars, The Animals. The price is right, and the video picture is really not as bad as other reviewers have described. It will certainly entertain until (if ever) a color version comes along.
- The Dangerous Christmas Of Red Riding Hood is an adorable TV special brought back from the vaults for us to watch and enjoy. Sure, the print is black and white--and it's not even good quality black and white; but it's still quite entertaining if you're not too picky about it. They should have restored the print more, of course, so this won't be a five star review.
Of course, the story is essentially the story of Red Riding Hood with a few twists here and there. Naturally the main revision is that now this is a Christmastime tale. Liza Minnelli plays Red Riding Hood; and Cyril Ritchard does a great job as the wolf (that's Mr. Lone T. Wolf to you). Look also for The Animals to play the wolf's cronies; and Vic Damone turns in a great performance as a prince turned into a woodchopper by some evil spell.
The action begins with the wolf--in a cage now--telling us he's going to tell us the "real" version of what happened. Well, little changes--but the story is embellished very nicely with The Animals singing very well and playing their electric guitars. Liza and Cyril dance very well; and the actors playing the woodland creatures perform some wonderful ballet routines during the course of the movie. Naturally, Little Red Riding Hood is saved by the woodchopper hero and everyone (except the wolf) is happy ever after.
This film has historical significance and sentimental value to Liza Minnelli fans; and people will enjoy The Animals playing some bit parts and singing their best. Cyril Ritchard couldn't be better; you truly get the feeling he enjoyed doing this.
Now there's the major issue of the quality of the print. I don't mind black and white. However, the print needs major restoration. The print suffers from scratches, rounded corners at the edges and a noticeable amount of fading. That disappoints me.
Overall, this excellent, underappreciated and long forgotten Christmas television special program displays the sublime talents of the actors and actresses. Liza Minnelli positively shines every time she smiles in this film. I highly recommend this for Liza fans and fans of older television shows; and here's hoping that they can restore this sometime soon.

5 comments about American Christmas Carol.
- This is a charming version of the classic Dicken's tale. Henry Winkler makes a good showing as the "Scrooge" character. Even though you know what will happen this version has enough of a change to make it better that average. If you love A Christmas Carol in any version, then you will love this.
- We'd taped this from TV years ago and I was delighted to find this version on Amazon. Winkler is fantastic as the Scrooge character. While the story-line has been modified to be early 20th century New England the elements of the original Dickens story are preserved in this version. I'm a "Christmas Carol" fanatic and this is a super addition to my collection. Buy it- you won't be disappointed!
- This is an excellent remake of the Dickins' A Christmas Carol. It should be placed along side your existing Christmas collection!
- I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast on TV. I loved it then and loved being able to watch it on DVD for the first time in almost 30 years. Other reviewers have provided story details, so I'll just say that this is a sweet movie that has aged well. If you are already considering this purchase then you are bound to like it.
- Enjoyed watching this,I have looked for years for the Henry Winkler verson.Got it very fast.Great quality, much better than vhs.

2 comments about Lawrence Welk Show - Christmas Reunion (1995)/New Year's Party (1971).
- This VHS tape covers 2 terrific Lawrence Welk shows on one VHS tape. Each show is about 47 minutes in length. The first show is "Christmas Reunion 1985" (the Amazon listing reads 1995, but that is an error) and the second show is "New Year's Party 1971." Of the 25 Lawrence Welk VHS tapes on Amazon, this one is the most affordable and of excellent quality listed in the Marketplace as low as $4.95.

- This movie made 2 years after Jeannie series ended showed Barbara Eden in an entirely new unlike Jeannie role. It is thrilling and full of suspense .Husband Robert Vaughn is a real creep & Stewart Whitman plays the part of an artist who seems to be up to no good. Barbara surprizingly shows off her fabulous dancing ability, uninhibited, wild and sensuous. Beautiful acting by Barbara Eden . This is one of the few movies where she is terrified, unlike other of her movies.Very enjoyable .A classic.
- As a huge Barbara Eden/Jeannie fan I was disappointed with thequality of this movie. The plot is predictable and the film is barelyover an hour long - which turned out to be a good thing. If all you want to see is Barbara prancing around in a thousand outfits that bare her mid-section then buy this movie. For the true fan, I recommend you buy her other movies. Even the five minutes she's on screen in "From the Terrace" was better than this. "Ride the Wild Surf" is one of my favorites.
- Barbara Eden plays a wealthy--but mentally unstable--woman who suspects that a man is a jewel thief and killer, but nobody will believe her! Finally! I had been looking for a copy of this movie for a long time! I remember watching it in reruns sometime during the mid 1980s on my local station's afternoon movie. I'm so glad that its finally available. This is one of Barbara Eden's first TV movies after "I Dream of Jeannie" was cancelled. If your a fan of Barbara Eden, and have seen every episode of "Jeannie" a dozen times or so, like I have, then this is the tape for you! Barbara is one hot mama parading around beautiful scenic Mexico in a variety of skimpy bare midriff outfits that showcase her dynamic figure. There is also a great scene of Barbara struttin' her stuff on the dance floor. This movie also gives Barbara a chance to show off her dramatic skills as well. I found her character, Dina, to be distant and aloof at times, yet always seductive--not at all like her ditzy Jeannie role. A good departure for her. I guess this is what you would call a "star-vehicle." Non-fans of Barbara will probably be bored watching this tape. The story is your typical slow-moving 70s tv movie with the obligatory climax before each commercial break, and doesn't pick up speed until the last third of the movie. However, the ending did surprise me I must say. This is (was) a hard to find TV movie. A must have for every Barbara Eden fan! (...)I recently picked up a dvd copy of this film and the print is much more crisp and clean than my old vhs version!
- this film is terrific to the end,Barbara Eden gives 100% in everything she does.
- An enjoyable TV movie from 1972 which gives Barbara Eden a chance to show her curves as well as her acting talent. She is well supported by Robert Vaughn and Stuart Whitman and the locations are also easy on the eye. The DVD print is excellent and the cover art really captures the essence of the film.
Although only a mere 70 minutes in length, it is still an entertaining story.
