5 comments about Ray Charles Celebrates A Gospel Christmas With The Voices Of Jubilation!.
  1. This was beyond belief from the forced commercial at the beginning to the lousy production values and poor Ray looks and acts ill.
    Avoid.

  2. This deluxe set includes the audio cd in addition to the DVD.

I really respect and enjoy the music of Ray Charles so I hate to give this a somewhat low rating, but the overall quality of the DVD production is disappointing. If you don't dig the gospel roots from which Ray Charles sprouted, then you may not like this DVD at all. In addition, the "forced" commercials in the beginning are so annoying that the frustration with this DVD begins even before the actual concert starts.

Much of the beginning of this concert is primarily the Voices of Jubilation performing spirit filled selections of praise and worship. If you enjoy Ray Charles AND gospel music (which I do), then there is some redeeming grace(no pun intended). If Ray Charles wasn't such a musical legend and I didn't like gospel music, I might've rated this DVD with only 1 star.

Once the concert begins, the Voices of Jubilation play for quite some time before Ray Charles finally comes out to perform. After singing a few Christmas songs he then takes another long break before returning again, this time thankfully, for a longer set and ultimately, a heartwarming encore of "America the Beautiful". Despite his obvious ailing, his strong spirit seems to allows him to smile and jam on his piano throughout.

In this performance, Ray brings his own personal jazzy, blues interpretations to some popular Christmas songs and adds a few inspirational songs of praise and worship. Don't expect to hear "Hit the Road Jack" or ""Georgia" or many of the others which made him famous. The Voices of Jubilation, however, do a good job of keeping the spirit moving in between Ray's sets and throughout the duration of the DVD.

  4. I was at this concert, and it was the most amazing one I had and have ever been to. I was in the 8th row almost in the middle. If you are looking for a great concert to watch, this is definately the one!!

  5. 1. All their standard songs were changed to what THEY thought the ALL WHITE AUDIENCE would want. If they sang their normal songs, they would have been great- but they had to be RACISTS. To be RACISTS they held their notes until their voices cracked. They sang louder until they were yelling- yelling to be yelling, not praising. For this reason they were lying- pretending to be praising but were realing singing to suit their own racist minds to please the all-white audience.
    2. Ray Charles kept on forgeting his lines. At one point he was taken off the stage unexpectingly. Ray Charles should have paid everybody in there to have put up with him. He demanded top money when he was good- now he should give back when he is terrible. Fair is Fair.

5 comments about Home for Christmas with Jennifer Love-Hewitt.
  1. Hewitt & Hessman were nicely matched for this comedy.

  2. Two great actresses! A great family movie!

  3. Can't take my eyes off on Jennifer "Love" Hewitt while watching this movie. I'm glued to it. I enjoy watching her. She's so natural as if she's not acting. I really love and adore her so much that I want to kiss her because she is so CUTE on her younger days. I recommend watching this movie because it brings the holiday spirit on what it reallly means, being with the family and the values the goes with it.

  4. I remember seeing this on TV several years ago, and thinking this is going to be horrible! Was I ever wrong! Its a surprisingly touching holiday movie, with great performances from Howard Hessman, and Jennifer Love Hewitt(Here billed as Love Hewitt).

With the exception of "Part Of Five," I was never a huge Hewitt fan. Home For Christmas was a great example of how good she can be when Hollywood isn't giving her bad scripts. Her chemistry with Hessman was terrific, and that smile could light up the night. A very pleasant surprise, and one that I will continue to watch form time to time.

  5. Nice holiday fun flick watch this with your kids. it will make you go awwww!

5 comments about Pinky & the Brain: A Pinky & the Brain Christmas.
  1. This video is so touching, I wanted to buy it immediately! It will have a place of honor in my Christmas Video collection! There aren't many animated features on TV today that I like. This video I love! I'm 47 years old and I adore Pinky and the Brain!

  2. awww, its touching, and so cute! A great xmas video too, especially for you Pinky and the Brain fans!

  3. The test of a truly extraordinary production, long or short, is its ability to evoke a broad range of human emotions, and that is exactly what "A Pinky and the Brain Christmas" does. From the opening scene, in which Pinky gleefully sings "Deck the Halls" while sliding down a decorative Christmas ribbon, to the ending, when they exchange gifts, our little mouse friends take us on an emotional journey. We laugh hysterically as they are flown to the North Pole by a character strangely similar to "Large Marge" in "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". Later, we are captivated by Brain's brilliant pitch and Pinky's familiar, delightful giggle, as they interview to become new elves in Santa's workshop. Then, in the the end, when Brain exasperatedly begins to read Pinky's selfless, innocent letter to Santa, we are moved to tears right along with him.
In many ways, this episode is like any other charming, thought-provoking "Pinky and the Brain" offering; Brain conceives a brilliant plot to take over the world and Pinky laughingly assists him along the way, sometimes for better and sometimes times for worse. This time, however, Brain's plan "fails" by his own choice.
It is Pinky's innocence and loyalty to his friend that make this episode such special and touching Christmas fare. Watch it and you are guaranteed to fall in love with these little "rodents", if you haven't already.

  4. One of my favorite Christmas specials; it actually makes me cry if I haven't seen it in awhile!

  5. If you like "Pinky and the Brain" then you will enjoy this Christmas show. It has all the regular features of the show, with an added Christmas flair. My son (7) liked it, but I bought it because I am a big fan of these two mice. My wife and I discuss which is the genius and which is insane. Listen carefully to the opening song; the words are different than the typical show.

1 comments about Cedarmont Kids Sing Along Songs - Christmas Carols.
  1. Can't say enough good things about CedarmontKids. These are a great item to have for the seasons. My daughter began to sing with the children immediately at 34 mo while living in the caribbean where there is only sun and beach. I thought "oh no, she won't sing because she doesn't understand what Christmas means" but to children, it's magnetism, they immediately are drawn to Christmas and carols. Before I knew it, with our windows open and tourists staying in beside and below our terrace balcony, my daughter and I were singing to the carols. It was so much fun.
You have an option to have the words cited for you on the screen if you choose to, to learn the songs.

1 comments about Your Favorite Christmas Carols.
  1. YOUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS CAROLS is a wonderful DVD to play during the Christmas season. You can play it as background music while taking part in holiday activities, but it's even better if there's a total visual and aural involvement.

YOUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS CAROLS features a superb selection of 30 carols though they don't exactly conform to the title. Many of them really are favorites but there's also a good mix of not-so-familiar carols that may easily be moved up to the favorite list once you experience this DVD.

The 90 minute program featuring performances by British, American, and Irish choirs and soloists was filmed in magnificent cathedrals and fascinating neighborhoods in London, Galway, Dublin, and Somerset.

The West Point Cadet Glee Club is featured on O COME, O COME EMMANUEL and LO! HOW A ROSE E'ER BLOOMING, filmed during a concert tour of the British Isles. A Celtic band plays a lively version of DING DONG MERRILY ON HIGH. Some of the lesser-known selections include THE ZITHER CAROL, WINTER WINDS (Etude by Chopin), THE CROWN OF ROSES (Tchaikovsky), and UP! GOOD CHRISTIAN FOLK, AND LISTEN.

The cathedrals and towns are beautifully photographed and there is wonderfully unique staging that makes good use of the ancient stone architectural elements.

Outstanding soloists include Eireann James - ROCKING (a Czech carol), Christine McCabe - SILENT NIGHT, and Dennis O'Neill - AVE MARIA (Bach). My favorite soloist is Catherine Coates who sings several arias in a segment devoted to selections from Handel's MESSIAH. I heard her on a concert tour of the U.S. several years ago and this DVD captures her glorious voice as well as her Irish beauty.

This compilation of TV broadcasts from Christmases past is a perfect Christmas gift for someone else or from you to you.
