  1. This movie was brought home by my daughter, a kindergartener, from her school's library. This is definitely NOT for children. There is nasty mailman, a panhandling thing named "Martini" and behaviors that are NOT what I want to be teaching my small children. Characters punch each other, write "I hate Santa" and all sorts of other things that are inappropriate for children. The allusions are definitely for adults, not children. There SHOULD be a rating of PG-13 on this.

  2. It's a cute movie. My daughter likes the cute cartoon characters and the singing. Me and my wife think the little inside jokes in it are cute. We can all watch it and enjoy it

  3. Olive the other Reindeer is a super cute movie with a good holiday message. I purchased this movie for multiple families with kids & all ages LOVED this movie! This is a bargain & worth every penny. ENJOY!

  4. This is such a great little movie. My seven year old and I both loved it. Would highly recommend.

  5. This is a great holiday show for the kids (probably 4 and up). Funny characters and Drew Barrymore shows some unseen talent. The songs are catchy and the animation is incredible, especially for us Simpson fans.

  1. I really threw good money away on this one!I am such a sucker for all Christmas movies, but my goodness it was torture sitting thru this.I kept thinking it has to get better, but alas it never did.....

  2. I was looking forward to this movie, as I am a fan of Christmas movies. As there are two versions on this DVD, I opted to watch the B&W first. The movie was heartwarming and charming, but there were obvious parts that the editing seemed somewhat off. Since this movie is in the public domain, I watched the original version at archive.org. What a difference!!! I'm sorry that Legend Films decided to edit this the way they did. They actually cut out 5 minutes of the film and added it to the DVD marked as "deleted scenes". How disappointing, since the "deleted scenes" really established some important points and made the ending more plausible. In addition, there is a point in the film where they messed up the editing and actually put a couple of seconds of a scene in twice, thus making one part of the film very confusing. How disappointing! My feeling is if you're going to colorize and otherwise tamper with these films, at least keep the editing in the original order that it was in! What's the point of cutting up a film and presenting it in this manner? Also, the color on this particular film wasn't very well done. It had that "pastel smear" type of effect applied and it was mostly distracting and not very appealing, like in some of their other efforts.

My recommendation would be to purchase another version of this movie. I have several other Legend Film DVDs that have been "colorized" just to see the various techniques used. This is certainly not one of their high points. I am glad they include the B&W with the color version, but tampering with the editing is where I draw the line. Purchase the 84 minute version. The colorization isn't worth it, as this movie plays better in B&W anyway. 4 stars for the movie, 2 stars for the format, average 3 stars.

  3. George Melton (Harry Carey), Alan Chadwick (Aubrey Smith), and Michael O'Brien (Charles Winninger) are rich lonely owners of an engineering firm invite two young strangers named James Houston (Richard Carlson), and Jean Lawrence (Jean Parker) to spend the Christmas eve with them and enjoy a luxurious meal at their Manhattan home. James is a singer from Texas falls in love with Jean instantly. The two date under the watchful eye of three gentlemen and also their housekeepers, Madame Tanya (Maria Ouspenskaya) and the butler Josef (Alex Melesh).

During a business trip, when the tragedy strikes for the three gentlemen, they perish in a plane crash but they return home to "manage affairs" as ghosts. In the meanwhile, Jim is discovered as a singing sensation and is being seduced by the married actress Arlene Terry (Helen Vinson). Jean is increasingly left alone while Jim pursues his career. The ghosts fail to save the day but the jealous husband finishes the job by shooting his wife and James. The movie has an interesting Christmas tone when the three rich men offer to entertain two ordinary people in their palatial home. There is lot of love, romance, comedy and tragedy, and still proves to be a wonderful Christmas classic: Highly recommended.

  4. I am afraid I was very disappointed in the movie. The content was not what was described, and the picture quality was poor. It was not objectionable, however, not a great Christmas movie for me.

  5. This film only holds up as a relic of a very much ago.
I saw this film in the early day of TV. It still put
a lump in my throat mainly because of rememberance
of a childhood viewing. Shmaltz yes from a very simple time.

  1. This DVD has been around for many years but it has been updated. It is great for children to hear and learn Christmas songs, especially the traditional ones. I use it in my day care and buy it as gifts for the younger children. They love it!!!

  2. I purchased this one for my 4 years old girl for the Holidays. She loved it and it was wonderful to play it to bring our home some Christmas spirit.

Some songs have slow pictures which possibly won't entertain smaller Children. For my 4 years old who loves Christmas songs and know most of them word for word it was very entertaining.

Great songs choices and presentation for the most part.

  3. This is a cute video. It has more religious songs than I would of liked. I expected mostly fun goofy songs about Christmas. It is a children's video after all. The music itself is well done. There is a wide range of characters singing. Not a bad video over all.

  4. This is an excellent Christmas DVD.
Preschoolers through 2nd graders love this music.
    Great animation.
    Adult friendly!

  5. I completely agree that they really messed this one up. The original was charming and heart warming, but the new one is...well, a little creepy. I think the voiceover reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is a great film, but not at all what this video was about. The new songs don't flow well, and the differences in animation are jarring at best. I really can't see why they changed it at all, except maybe to lengthen it. I just shelved my DVD and ordered another VHS to replace my old one. I don't think the DVD wil get pulled out anytime soon....

  1. The new Scooby Doo adventures are much better than the old ones. They have more comedy and they aren't near as scary for younger kids as the older ones. My five year old son loves the new Scooby Doo way more and he has seen both. This one is a cute DVD - the Christmas one has a great lesson for kids about sharing. The other three adventures are very cool and very imaginative. While in the new adventures some things don't make as much sense as in the old (details like how the monster worked) it's much more fun for the kids!

  2. My daughter loves Scooby. My mom sent her this one for Halloween and my grandma bought her the Christmas one for Christmas and she loves it. She owns a few other volumes but she always goes back to those two. I enjoy watching them with her and they remind me of when I use to love watching Scooby!

  3. Excellent quality DVD. My sons love being able to watch Scooby whenever they want.

  4. I can't believe how fun this was! I watched Scooby Doo and the gang while I was growing up and now my 2 year old daughter has been introduced to them! This DVD was perfect for the holiday! In a sea of cutesy childrens holiday programs, i.e. Winnie-the-Pooh, Mickey Mouse and such, this was refreshing, a bit scary but had my daughter laughing, hiding and glued to the screen! My daughter asks to watch this over and over!

  5. My children and i are huge fans of Scooby and we have never seen any of these movies in Australia, great so buy something that they haven't already seen
