2 comments about Christmas in South Africa.
- Not as good as some of the earlier Gaither concerts - it is not a video that you can watch time and time again as it is pretty depressing.
It is more of an educational statement on AIDS and children in South Africa, than Christmas Music for the season.
- This was a joy to watch. The music and the scenes of the aid to the South African orphans was very touching. The program was put together very well .

5 comments about Christmas Wife.
- The Christmas Wife has been one of my all time favorite movies for over 10 years now and I never get tired of watching it.
As a matter of fact I watch it at least 3 times every Christmas season and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes good sentimental movies.
- This has remained the movie to laugh about. It's such a horrible movie with no plot. In the end, nothing happens. There is no action, no drama, and no comedy. What's left? Nothing. Watching grass grow would be more action filled than this sleeper.
- Sweet, sentimental movie that intrigued my youngest three children and disappointed them at the end. They wanted the traditional happy ending. The mystery kept my husband and I curious and wondering, too. It is a well made film for people not jaded by video games and fast action flicks. It made me think quite a bit afterwards, about marriage, family, and loyalty.
- Thanks for making the gift search so easy! I'll be back for other great buys!
- This is an excellent Christmas classic starring Jason Robards and Julie Harris, and brilliantly directed by David Hugh Jones. The story is about a widower named John Tanner (Jason Robards) who uses an escort service to find a Christmas companion with the stipulation that the woman must be about his age, and they sleep in different bedrooms, at a service fee of $500. The service provider (Don Francks), since his assistant is gone for the holidays, and he doesn't have access to the file, promises to provide him with a list of names to choose from. When John Tanner is called by the agency to meet the service provider at a hotel guest area, Tanner is reluctant but agrees, and then he learns that the woman named Iris (Julie Harris) wanted to see him incognito from a distance before she wants to go with him. Eventually the two meet and set a date and time to be picked up at a local bus stop and then drive to the secluded family cabin next to a lake.
Iris is beautiful, about the same age as John Tanner, nervous, quiet, and mysterious. She appears to be a reluctant participant in his company and refuses to answer any questions, which deepens the mystery. The Christmas eve is somewhat uneasy for both of them but the Christmas day gets better than expected. When John is getting to enjoy the company, she announces that the date is finished and would like to go home and she doesn't want to visit him again. It is at the end the viewers come to know that she is in fact married to the service provider and the idea behind this farce was to earn the badly needed service fee of $500 to pay their family bills. Both Julie Harris and Jason Robards offer brilliant performances as the two "older couples" trying to spend Christmas together. This movie is reminiscent, to a certain extent, of another great classic "On Golden Pond." This is an excellent movie for viewing on Christmas day with your family and it is very highly recommended.

1 comments about Christmas Carol.
- This was the very first time I saw "A Christmas Carol", either a live production or animated.. so naturally it will always stick with me as the true "A Christmas Carol". I recorded the version off of pay-per-view several years ago, but the picture wasn't very good. Then last year I found a copy of it at a Dollar General Store for $5.00. I was sooooo excited. I couldn't wait to get home and watch it.
While my views may sound (and be) commpletely biased based on sentimentality... I still believe this is the perfect version to capture childrens attention. The dialogue is plain and simple. The music is soothing and captivating to young ears. And it ends on a very happy high note. Indeed, my own daughter.. who is 4 1/2 as of this writing.. has almost worn out the video herself watching it over and over. I've been looking for another copy to store away for her sister who is due in January. I can only hope that it's re-release is not too far away. For those of us who prefer nostalgia verses theatrical art.. this Scrooge is worth waiting for.

1 comments about A Hollywood Christmas.
- Jane Seymour does an outstanding job of introducing scenes from the brightest and best of Hollywood Christmas films. There are the real classics "Miracle on 34th Street" (the original, of course), "White Christmas", and "It's a Wonderful Life." The excerpts from seven versions of "A Christmas Carol" let you compare the various actors who played Scrooge. The best in my book is the 1951 version featuring Alister Sim. More recent highlights include "Home Alone," and "The Santa Claus." It's a nice review of the way that Hollywood treats Christmas and should be part of everyone's Christmas DVD collection.

1 comments about Brer Rabbit's Christmas Carol.
- Before I watched this video and thoroughly enjoyed it, I was skeptical because it was not put out by Disney. However, from the moment it began, I realized it was a great choice. It's a neat twist on a classic tale, with a delightful ending. This is not a musical, but neither does it need the sometimes silly and contrived songs that too many animated holiday works seem to depend on. The story carries itself the whole way through, and the characters and accompanying voices are convincing. I recommend this video to anyone who enjoys a charming and fun holiday movie.

2 comments about Caillou - Caillou's Holidays.
- My 3 year old daughter, Rachel, loves this video. She has watched it several times. It deals with Halloween as well as Christmas and she enjoyed it as much as she does the shows on tv. She liked the little game on the dvd also. Dressing Rosie to go outside. She squealed and giggled through the entire video. If your little one likes Caillou, buy this.
- THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE --VHS-- VERSION (Amazon will put it on both listings)
(the DVD version gets 5 stars)
My daughter loves Caillou (and tolerates the puppets - but that is not a big deal).
I like him myself - much better than Dora, clearly better than the Berenstains and Clifford (though they are closer).
This is a 40 minute tape. The DVD version is 80 minutes. Probably more expensive but you get twice the Caillou!
