  1. I would say this movie is ok. Some of the speeches in between songs can be annoying but sometimes cool. If you can find it for a cheap price (under 20 bucks) get it.

  2. An hour of old both life and promo clips, well edited, nice sound and picture and very interesting documentary.Interviews are much longer than in the ¨Punk And Disorderly¨DVD,only HALF of the footage is exactly the same as in that one,in tipical Cherry Red scamming style,so don't buy both (P n Dis is better)

  1. only for fans cause lets face it why in the world would u be looking at this unknown movie unless u r a true fan I knew someone who was and they told me to see it it was allright but I'm really not into horror so only for true fans of horror movies

  2. Basically the only people who are going to watch this movie are those who are already into watching the series. Once again its a paper thin plot with lots of nudity and sex thrown in to keep the viewer interested. If you are a fan of cheesy horror flicks then this is for you. I recomend the whole series if you can find them and actually sit through them. Basic plot. A ancient witch was burned and burried and sealed in a tomb. A new teacher moves into the salem area and finds a secret room in his basement that is, guess what, the ancient tomb. A relic is removed and the witch is set free to wreak havok and make this guys life hell. and thats about it.

5 comments about Nuttiest Nutcracker.
  1. I'd just like to say that while I didn't think this movie rated very high, my daughter, who saw it the first time when she was 7 1/2 is crazy about this movie and since that who I bought it for, I am happy she likes it!

  2. I loved the humor, and the Rat, err, Mouse King's antics, but what I couldn't stand was the religous stuff. It's not advertised on the front, and it's not mentioned in any of the reviews i read on this, or even in the preview trailer. It kind of bugs me to have this great christmas classic tarnished everytime Peabo Bryson decides to sing us a song. In every scene that accompanied his songs, it seemed like Marie and the gang were in church. I actually had to watch it again to make sure i wasn't imaging them. Now if I wanted VeggieTales, I'd buy it. Other than that, it's a goofy movie that keeps my kids plenty entertained.

  3. We got a copy from the library and my daughter insisted we buy it! I think she is destined for Broadway! she just loves acting out the mouse king and even created her own costume so she could march around the house like him!! We are going to see the Nutcracker play together now and she is sooo excited. If this crazy movie can inspire an interest in plays and creative play on her own,,, I'm all for it! My little boy is also crazy about it! they are 4 and 2 yrs old.

  4. If this was a movie meant for me, I wouldn't be able to rate it very high. But my son has been watching it for over 2 years now. He doesn't just reserve it for the holidays, either. Every few months, he drags it out and watches it a bunch. In fact, it's mid-January now, and he's still watching it 2 or 3 times a day some days.
I really don't like it that much. It's certainly no "Nemo!" The music is a bit too gospel for me, and the story and animation are not spectacular. However, it has it's moments.
The most important thing is that, out of all the Christmas movies we have, my son loves this one the best. His entertainment is the sole reason I bought the movie, so I have to give it two thumbs up. Besides, anything that brings my son so much joy has a special place in my heart.
The following is my son's own review: "The nuts are funny, the Mouse King dances with one of his army men, and some little red fruits have gas and stink up the whole place and make their own men and a lot of black-eyed peas have to go to the hospital."
    And there you have it!

  5. This is an adorable little movie. It is an updated version of "The Nutcracker", with assorted colorful characters and a Clara with 'Tude. I especially adored her; she was quite the scene stealer, if a cartoon character could possibly do that. Of course Phyllis Diller as the Fairy was a scream as well. It is a refreshing take on a classic fairy tale, and one that children can relate to. The computer-generated graphics are amazing.
This is fun family fare for the holidays. I recorded it on VHS when it played on Primetime TV, so I'm glad the DVD is out. Even adults will find it entertaining and amusing. (...).

1 comments about A Christmas Experiment / The Canadian Brass.
  1. This is our family favourite video. The songs line up of this production is very natural, from the festive "Sleigh Runners" opening featuring the kids playing the percussion, through secular favourites to the more religious songs and ending with "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "O Christmas Tree" featuring Ron Romm in a Christmas Tree costume going across the stage. The music arrangement is fantastic. Beautiful counterpoints. The Canadian Brass performance is as usual, wonderful. Despite what some reviewers of the older release feeling that this is not as polished as they expected, the children's choir and dance performances are really top notched and add to fullness of it. The scenes are rich with pretty sets to faces filled with expressions. There are lots of lovely touches from the costumes to the use of Ophelia the dog and other real animals. There are details like the backstage shots and the camel in the "We Three Kings" segment. All of these resulted in a program with lots of holiday spirits, a delight to young and old alike.

What the product description doesn't mention is that the show is not just produced on one stage. There are off stage sets, and outdoor scenes-- "Jingle Bells" features a sleigh rides and "Sweet Songs of Christmas" includes beautiful ice dancing of a professional ice dancing couple. It is really a well balanced program. So well done that I don't mind having to watch it daily for 3+ months! (Yes, that's a little extreme, but I have a preschooler. This is much better than a lot of things a young child might demand!)

I do have to say that my husband wasn't too excited about the video at first. However, it grew on him and it is now our comfort video of sorts. It's great to watch whether you're decorating a Christmas tree or just because. We especially recommend this video to family with small children. It's a wonderful way to introduce them to good music and my little one has effortlessly learned all the popular Christmas songs, secular and religious. It also presents to her the popular ideas behind Christmas. It really is great!

Note: I have the older DVD release from 2000. The cover of this one looks much better, though I'm now suspecting my 2000 copy's authenticity (I ordered the older version from one of Amazon sellers two years ago and the cover looks like a cheap copy and I've just noticed a typo on the back cover!). So if you're choosing between this one and the older release, I suggest ordering this newer one directly from a reputable seller.

(For those of you who are interested in introducing more music to your toddlers' lives, I also recommend another video of Barbara Willis Sweete. We stumbled upon the "Falling Down Stairs - Bach Cello Suite #3" from the "Yo-Yo Ma Inspired by Bach" series at our local library. The dance choreographed by Mark Morris beautifully adds to the already wonderful music. It's another of our delights.)

  1. This piece stands as a baeutiful Christmas tale. It was an original from animator, Michael Sporn. When HBO made a series out of it, the characters fell flat and the fun ran out. A surprise treat for the kids at Christmas. Crystal Gayle sings a beautiful Christmas ballad. The companion book by Maxine Fisher is also a charmer.

  2. I liked this movie. My son who is four, however, prefers the City Mouse and Country Mouse videos that were the ones shown on tv. This is not the same City Mouse and Country Mouse. THe drawing and animation is different and the talking is different.

Again. This is a cute Christmas show that has lasting appeal. I really enjoy it.
