5 comments about Frosty the Snowman/Frosty Returns.
- Great Christmas time movie for the whole family. Old school animation brings this movie to life. Story line is great and it will not let any age down as far as being a worth while Holiday flick!
- My three year old daughter loves this...it was one of my favorites growing up too so I don't mind watching it over and over and over again with her.
- Frosty the Snowman is a wonderful story! A classic! Frosty Returns was horribly disappointing! Other reviewers already mentioned the socio-political agenda which was obvious, but I would like to add that the music was BAD, BAD, BAD! Not only were they melodically boring, but the lyrics sounded like they were written by a 4 year old. The fact that the characters couldn't carry a tune in a bucket didn't help either! They could have at least found people who can sing!!!
Buy it for Frosty... Chuck Frosty Returns in the garbage! Don't waste your time!
- The original FROSTY THE SNOWMAN is a true Christmas classic. Jimmy Durante is the perfect narrator for this clever holiday cartoon from the early 50's. The story has humor, suspense and even pathos (who can forget the sight of our friend Frosty turned in to a big puddle of water on the greenhouse floor?) as well as themes of rebirth and friendship. And of course there's that wonderful title song.
Unfortunately FROSTY RETURNS is inferior to the original in every respect. There are so many technical goofs in the animation I at times wondered if this was supposed to be self mocking. I have always found Jonathan Winters annoying and his performance here does nothing to change my opinion. As other reviewers have said the kid characters have strange similarities to certain friends of a beagle named Snoopy and I swear at least one of the adults was a Mr. Magoo clone. The songs are nothing special and it is never a good thing when an adult finds the plot of a children's cartoon difficult to follow.
- While it is a total joy to have the classic Rankin and Bass Christmas classic "Frosty the Snowman", on DVD what is disappointing is that it is unfortunately paired on this DVD with a dour "update", of the adventures of the most famous Snowman in the world titled "Frosty Returns", that is a clear victim of "politically correct", agendas. The original 1969 classic "Frosty the Snowman", is a story beloved by generations of television viewers with its catchy tunes, beautiful animation, likeable characters, and unabashed celebration of Christmas and all its traditions. "Frosty Returns", however is seemingly driven by a desire to down play the importance of Christmas traditions altogether, indeed Christmas amazingly is never even referred to once in the story, being instead replaced by a rather unfortunate "Winter festival". Imagining Frosty the Snowman without Christmas is like trying to picture Rudolph without his shiny nose! While the original has charm aplenty "Frosty Returns", also displays a number of less than charming characters, namely Frosty himself who in this story is more sarcastic and jive talking and far less jolly than in the memorable original. This sequel also has some of the most woeful animation and songs in it that you could imagine which only succeeds in making the original classic shine ever more brightly. Seeing these two features side by side on this disk made a number of decades apart clearly illustrates the often discussed "war on Christmas", that seems to be taking place in our western culture and after one screening of the "update" "Frosty Returns", I know I'll be sticking with the original classic "Frosty the Snowman", which still charms all these decades after it was produced by the legendary team of Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass.

- Although these DVD's are already old, (at least from 2004 or earlyer), they are worth buying if you don't have them already. Most Andre lovers will already have them though.
As usual Andre and his orchestra give more than their best, and the music is exellent specially on New Year's Eve punch.(Silvester Punsch)
I think that Amazon should tell what is actually in this collection, so that people do not buy something they already own. But if you do buy, and find you already own these DVD's, you can aways make a new fan by passing them on. The more fans the better.
- I love the Christmas Round the World DVD (I have the CD also). The second Christmas DVD is fine. However, since the contents of the package are not specified I wound up with the New Year's Eve DVD which I already have. I could have purchased just the two for a lot less. I had looked everywhere to see what was included and nothing was mentioned so it was a blind purchase and an expensive one. Thank goodness I adore Andre no matter what happens. I now have to figure who to give the New Year CD to.
- I am a great Andre Rieu fan, and love his DVDs. In ordering "The Ultimate Holiday" I found that this set is only a repackaging of three previously issued DVDs: Christmas Around the World, Christmas with Andre Rieu, and New Year's in Vienna. Nothing in the promotions for the DVD set speaks to this fact. Amazon's unfortunate return policy only allowed a refund of $24.01. So BUYER BEWARE!! If you already have one or more of the originally issued DVDs, do not order this set.
- I was very disappointed. You listed this product as made in 2007 and did not list the specific name of each tape. When it arrived I found I had all three tapes from years ago that I bought from you. It is not fair thar you take three old dvds and put a 2007 label on them. I have bought many things from Amazon and this is the first bad thing that has happened to me. You are not reliable.
William Donovan
- All 3 CD's are great. one is only an hour but is very good.

- The DVD has a set of spectacular outdoor nature scenes with bland transitional indoor scenes ushering in a change of location in the outdoor environment.
If the indoor scenes weren't so uninteresting, I would have given this DVD a rating of 5 stars. The impression left after viewing the entire DVD is that the production company did not have enough good outdoor scenes to make this a full half hour.
For the interior transitional photograpy. a video set was created with a Christmas tree, ornaments, and a fireplace. Scenes on this set are repeated over and over again from different camera angles. This becomes boring quickly.
If you enjoy winter snow scenes and can live with the boring transitions, then this DVD is something nice to watch. But be warned that the best parts of this DVD are only about 15-20 minutes in length.
- When I first purchased this DVD I was a bit skeptical in that I had never heard of it. After a friend highly recommended it I decided to give it a try. All I can say is, "I Love it". The scenary both indoor and outdoor is absolutely stunning and is accompanied by breathtaking instrumental versions of some of the best Christmas songs ever recorded. This DVD is a must for anyone who truly loves Christmas. I give it five stars all day long. Sarah Taylor - Boulder Colorado

- It's a love story, a comedy, a drama all wrapped into one. Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn had a terrific chemistry. I will not go into the plot since I see other reviews have already, but buy this movie! You will not be disappointed. Truly a classic to watch over and over.
- This is a surprising movie...the emotions you feel in this is surprising...after watching this for the first time several years ago I knew I had to have this --- so will anyone who sees this movie..a must have!
- this is one of my favorite hepburn/grant movie...they are comic time sets up the rest of their on screen chemistry
- For a film that just turned 70 years old, "Holiday" is remarkably timely. The question of what to do with your life, whether there's more to it than just making money & accruing power & status, resonates all the more in contemporary times. Everywhere the emphasis is on getting more, More, MORE!
And for what?
That's what Johnny Case (a young Cary Grant at his most charming & energetic) is wondering as the story begins. Not averse to hard work & making enough to live on, he's thinking beyond that, wanting to use his money as the means to an end, rather than as an end in itself. And he assumes that his brand-new fiancée Julia (Doris Nolan), with whom he's head over heels in love, feels the same way ... until he meets her family, which just happens to be one of the richest in America. He soon discovers that something more mainstream is expected of someone with his financial acumen.
But Julia's siblings Linda (a scintillating Katherine Hepburn) & Ned (an equally good Lew Ayres) agree with Johnny's notion of a "holiday," making enough to live on for a couple of years while he sorts out his life, discovers what it is he really wants. As do his eccentric friends Nick & Susan Potter, played to a delicious turn by Edward Everett Horton & Jean Dixon. Still, he loves Julia, and wants to work out some sort of reasonable compromise ... even as he begins falling for Linda, and vice-versa.
It's the all too relevant dilemma of living in a society that glorifies, even deifies wealth. What is Johnny to do? How much of his personal dream should he, can he put aside for the sake of his intended wife & her family? What are his obligations to use his talents? What does he owe himself? In many ways, he's a close cousin to Tyrone Power's Larry Darrell in "The Razor's Edge."
These questions wouldn't be out of place in any American household today, especially for someone fresh out of college, just beginning a career. Is the goal of life a McMansion, a Hummer, a wall-sized plasma TV? Or is there more to life than that, something more meaningful & satisfying, even though scorned by the majority?
And note the attitudes of Julia's cousins at the big party, snobbish & arrogant & verging on fascist. To them, society belongs to a handful of the very wealthy, superior to the mere masses, who exist solely to serve their masters. Which might remind more than a few viewers of the people currently running & devouring America right now.
It's a film rich with food for thought -- but never at the expense of entertainment, which makes it even better. The acting is uniformly wonderful, and the banter is witty as only dialogue from the classic era of film can be. Yet after the credits have rolled, and the smile still lingers on your face, you'll find yourself thinking about the film's deeper message. Most highly recommended!
- I'm sure in it's time this was a very good movie, but for me it took forever to get to the inevitable. The film is saved by good performances by Grant and Hepburn, but it's not enough to save this slow moving predictable romance movie. It's easy to love the idea that the young Grant has, of earning enough money to let him take some time off to see what he wants to do with his life as I have always tried to live my life in the same manner. Maybe I've seen so many films that this one just doesn't stand out?
I viewed this movie which was included in a box set with four other Grant pictures, I can only hope I enjoy the other more than this one, but the DVD transfer is very good and there are some interesting extras, so if your a fan look for the Cary Grant Box set.

- This is a dvd for lovers of classical music. It contains selections by: Corelli, Praetorius, Bach, and Handel. There are only three well known Christmas carols presented. The performance is excellent. The production values are not great, but are acceptable. If you want a Christmas dvd of classical selections, then this is for you. If you want standard Christmas carols and songs, then seek elsewhere.
Four stars for an excellent performance.
