  1. This was an interesting film that was par for the time it was made. The filming was sort of interesting especially when showing the view of the serial killer(The First person view sort of speak). The story was pretty good yet a tad over the top but as you know most horror films are a bit over the top. There is one really bloody scene at the beggining of the film that was graphic but after that don't espect too much blood. I thought this scene was done well and pretty graphic even for today's times. The music in this film is a bit hokey on certain parts but not too bad. The acting was not horrible but it was'nt great either. The part of the film that really stands out to me is the flashback scene. This really made the film spooky. The strange filming it used and the crazy story it explaned helped me like the movie alot more than I otherwise would have. The dvd version I saw came in a four horror film pack called horror classic's. I thought the sound could have been improved and certain scenes could have been transfered more clearly to the dvd but I guess I should just be glad it was even made into dvd format. Overall I think the film is worth a watch or two late at night.

  2. I purchased Silent Night Bloody Night as part of a Horror Classics set at Best Buy, and I've got to admit, I was pleasantly surprised. Not that it was a perfect movie, but one of the better "b" movies that I've seen. Maybe not quite as good as movies like Black Christmas, Terror Train, etc., but not bad.

First, the bad things. The movie honestly is pretty slow moving, mediocre acting (but no worse than most other "b" movies), and lousy picture & sound quality. Also, the ending to the movie wasn't overly dramatic (but it was acceptable), but I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the movie.

But, despite these few criticisms, the movie was well directed, and the creator of the movie definitely knows what "horror" is. Creepy score, suspenseful in that the killer's identity is hadden until the end of the movie and you don't get to see too much of the killer too soon in the movie, and a couple of graphic scenes in the film that got my attention. Just enough gore to be effective, but not over the top.

If you don't like slow moving, low budget movies, then you probably won't like Silent Night Bloody Night, but for most of you, I think it's definitely worth watching at least once.

  3. I saw this back in 82 when WOR out of New York use to have their 'Fright Night' movies on Saturday nights at 12:00 midnight. I've always loved this movie and still think it's scary to this day. The phone calls and sepia toned flasback scene are especially creepy. This will probably sound totally stupid to most people but I like the way this looks on the DVD release. Yes the picture quality is murky and sometimes its hard to see whats going on in a few of the scenes but that's the way these movies looked back when I use to catch them on those late night fright shows and I kinda like remebering them that way.

  4. "Silent Night, Bloody Night" is a low-budget, poorly edited but compulsively watchable 70s horror flick concerning the escape of a maniac from a mental institution, with an ax (figuratively and literally) to grind with the citizens of a small community that has more dirty little secrets than Peyton Place. An abandoned mansion sits, menacingly in the dark of night, luring some of the town's most prominent members via whispering, creepy phone calls. But who is it? And why? The sheriff's daughter, Diane (Mary Woronov) meets the grandson of the home's original owner, Jeffrey Butler (James Patterson), and the two set out to investigate what is going on. It turns out that both of them are closer to the mystery than they would care to be - with many frightening turns and revelations that I wouldn't think of giving away. One thing about the film that is irritating (besides the choppy editing), is that the top-billed performer, Patrick O'Neal, has a brief bit early on as a real estate agent who, along with his attractive girlfriend (Astrid Hereen) is brutally butchered in the Victorian style bedroom of the ancestral home. Why wouldn't Patterson and Woronov be first in the credits, since their roles are far more prominent? John Carradine gives a very effective performance as the town mute who also has a past entangled with Jeffrey's grandfather, Wilfred Butler.

The shoestring budget can be frustrating at times, particularly during the flashback sequences, and the late night darkness makes viewing more difficult, but it also adds to the atmospheric quality of the production.

And if you know what's good for you, watch when you're not alone - or every noise you hear will make you think that you are the murderer's next target!

  5. While not a high budget production it still manages to deliver some chills to the viewer. Just get out the popcorn and a soda and set down on a stormy night and enoy an old fashioned thriller.

  1. This film, which marks scene changes by having a transluscent cheerleader jump across the screen, is so bad it is funny. The storyline so pathetic...but it gave a lot of laughs to the group of people I saw it with!

  2. Well,well,well...what do we have here? A demon temptress who comes to our world to choose a man who will be forced to have sex with her constantly for all eternity? Where does the line start? Apparently there's a problem with this plan because the guys fight tooth and nail not to get lucky with this special vixen. But none of that matters because there is a ROCK band in this. A really cool rock band. They play rock and roll. I need to know who this band is and where can I get a t-shirt. One star was taken away because they didn't show enough of the band.

  3. Well in this combo you get Rush Week and Fraturnity Demon. In rush week a killer is on the loose and is killing off college girls at Tambers College. As more girls turn up missing toni, a student reporter starts to search for the killer and trys to get her big story. Soon she falls for jeff, the president of the Beta Delta Beta fraternity who starts acting strange as more girls turn up missing. Will toni find out who the killer is or will her story get her killed? As for fraternity Demond the movie is about a demon temptress who comes to our world, and is searching for a man to have sex constantly for all eternity. There is a fight between all these frat guys to be the stud who gets lucky with this sexy demon. Lots of fun and cool rock music.

  4. I got this DVD based on the fact it was a combination of a cheesy horror movie, cheesy porno, cheesy college movie, and cheesy metal movie all wrapped into one. However, it fell a bit short of my cheesiness expectations.

First off, despite it has "Demon," in the title, it is in no way a thriller or horror movie in any way. Maybe I was jumping to conclusions when reading reviews about it, but I was hoping to see some cheesy murder scenes.

Secondly, throughout the entire movie, you only see like 2-3 girls naked, which is really dissapointing since the main premise of this film was to be an adult movie of some sort. What's worse is that the demon isn't very hot (she's like 30-40 years old), and one of the actresses has a stunt double in the scene she is naked! I mean, they couldn't find an actress willing to show both her face and body in the same B movie???

I did like how terribly they potrayed a Greek system at a college. I don't know if they were that stupid, or if they just wanted to make this movie even cheesier. They didn't know how to draw an Upsilon or Sigma, and you can tell from a distance that they taped "Sigma Upsilon Chi" over an actually fraternity composite's name in the background. Also, the interrivally between jocks and nerds in the fraternity was hilarious (how that could ever happen in a real fraternity, I don't know). Finally, the party scene with the cheesy metal band was most excellent on my cheesiness scale.

If you're looking for a cheesy movie to make fun of, there are plenty better ones out there than this one. But, if you're in a frat like me, and are still really intrigued, this can be a fairly entertaining movie to watch with your bros.

5 comments about Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town/The Little Drummer Boy.
  1. I was a bit stunned to see that this first appeard on TV in 1970. I could have sworn I watched it in the 1960's alongside Rudolph and Charlie Brown.

In anycase this is one of those great Rankin & Bass stop motion animated films detailing the life of Santa Claus from the time he was just a baby. The story is told by a friendly postman voiced by Fred Astaire.

Santa is taken in by the Kringles a family of toymakers and once he grows into a young man he begins delivering the toys to the children of Sombertown.

This earns him the status of public enemy #1 from the towns Burgomeister who has outlawed all toys and Kris must think of more secret methods to get the toys to the children.

Along the way we see how Kris gets the name Santa clause, his red suit, flying reindeer, and how the night for delivering toys was chosen.

Mickey rooney voices Kris/Santa and does so with gusto. But Keenan Wynn is the standout as his gruff, but sweet portrayal of the Winter Warlock.

The film also features some great songs such as the title sung by Astaire and "Put one foot in front of the Other".

Over 30 years later I now watch this one with my kids and still enjoy it. But get it on DVD since so much is cut out today to make room for commercials.

  2. I watched these Rankin and Bass Christmas productions on TV when I was a child and I loved them, I especially like The Little Drummer Boy which is narrated by Greer Garson and is a beautiful heart-stirring story about the true meaning of Christmas! Santa Claus is Coming to Town is good too about how this boy grew up to became Santa Claus and I highly recommend this DVD set!

  3. Rankin-Bass presentations (from full-length films like The Hobbit and The Last Unicorn to their classic Christmas specials) are legendary. They might seem a bit out-of-date compared to today's high-tech standards of animation, but Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town (presented in claymation style) still retains the innocent exhuberance it had since it was first televised in the late 60s. The Little Drummer Boy is a lesser known holiday claymation by Rankin-Bass, but tells an interesting take on the Christmas story. These two movies, along with Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, Frosty, Jack Frost, etc., are classics of Christmastime--enjoyable for people of all ages!

  4. The DVD includes two classics for almost the same price as one. Also, Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town includes the full length version that is not seen on television any more because of commercials. On TV there are two scenes deleted that you will get on this DVD.

  5. Warm blankets, rocket jammies and hot chocolate. This film brings back all the memories of childhood while at the same time creating new ones for a new generation!

  1. I love to watch Nancy Kerigan and friends skate. In this DVD the skating was good but the overall production doesn't flow between skating sequences. There was too much talking so this one didn't keep my attention.

  2. Great DVD to have for your Halloween Season. My whole family enjoy it. My parents are not that crazy for Halloween but love ice skating and this DVD delivers it. Too bad didn't have enought in the Bonus section.

  3. I was disappointed in this CD. I'm a follower of figure skating, having been in competition myself at the time when dinosaurs were still around. But this movie has some tremendous skating, but for the most part the costume and make up of he skaters are so dark that it's really a distraction. And Nancy Kerrigan does too much talking between scenes, and she's not a very good 'public speaker.

5 comments about The Apartment.
  1. Several men kept an apartment for their daytime and nightly trysts and, sometimes, had to arrange ahead of time for the privacy they were paying for. This was a busy place day and night with appointments similar to Butterfield Eight where Elizabeth Taylor's character parlayed a long mink coat. The townhouse apartment was beautifullly furnished with good taste and expensive condiments. Not that they cooked. All of the essentials needed for good living was arranged for comfort and luxury.

Another such apartment existed, on just the opposite: no durable furnishings, just a palet on the floor and a t.v. set. This is an updated version but rent paid by the inhabitants of a halfway house, no chairs, dresser, or even curtains on the windows. Black plastic bags kept the outdoors hid and the pad is kept dark. The victim is lured into this trap with one of the robot's enthusiasm about cooking a meal for her. He supposedly worked in the kitchen of an expensive restaurant which takes in felons right out of prison for social workers,

He's not as young as he appears and his fingers have no finger nails. Using toys to make up for their deficiency, nothing works right. Long and floppy, it is frustration for the partner. That's just the beginning of weird abnormal behavior and known only the animal version which doesn't work. "Get on your knees" is not for an execution but an aboriginese approach. These men are demented. One got away but how many of the homeless were lured into damnation and didn't live to talk about it. A slight variation on an old theme.

  2. Although this is billed as a comedy, it's only so in the sense that just as "Macbeth" was a tragedy and "Twelfth Night" was a comedy, this film is a comedy. What I mean is that over the years, the jokes are still amusing but not really funny anymore and in fact some of them are just downright corny e.g. the "you should see my backhand" line. Still, this film is very poignant and touching and really came to life for me towards the middle and end when it addresses the cruelty inflicted on women by men who just wanna have fun with no regard to the consequences.

Women are treated like chattel although you find some difficulty in finding sympathy for them when you realise that in some way, they brought it upon themselves. If women only respected other women and played on the same team, "men" like those portrayed here wouldn't even have a chance to use them so easily. If you don't want a homewrecker to come destroy your marriage just don't be one yourself! Imagine if all women stuck to this credo...

Anyways, both Lemmon and MacClaine put in very good performances here as the sympathetic man who realises just how bad his involvement in aiding and abetting his colleagues in cheating on their wives truly is after seeing the results on his victim MacClaine whom he really loves makes a selfless sacrifice of his own with regards his career to do the right thing and MacClaine as the "victim" who realises what true love is about. I thought I couldn't hate Fred MacMurray any more than when he was Neff in "Double Indemnity" but his acting is so good here that I actually found myself hating his character even more here although it goes without saying that "Double Indemnity" is the far, far better film.

This is a very good film except that this DVD version is very poor. The film hasn't been restored in any way and so the picture quality is poor with imperfections galore and the sound quality in Mono is also very poor. There are also no special features worth mentioning at all. Here's hoping that a Blu-ray version with full high quality restoration work on both picture and sound quality is on the horizon. Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround or better options would be nice as well as a frame-by-frame picture cleanup to do justice to a deserving best film Oscar winner.

Recommended but wait for a better restored version to surface.

  3. This was one of the dullest movies I've ever watched! Other laudatory reviwes mystify me. Can this really be the same Billy Wilder who made " Some Like It Hot???"

  4. Billy wilder was the first woody allen

    and this movie shows it

the best comedy and drama with great performances and direction.

a treasure, no doubt about it

  5. The movie was great! It's funny to see the same nonsense that happens nowadays being portrayed years ago. The more things change they definitely stay the same!
