  1. We were looking for something to do with our twins the other night and made a recipe for Chinese new year from this book. It was delicious and lots of fun to do together. Plus the kids loved doing the activities. Highly reccomended.

  2. My daughter and I just made date nut cookies from a recipe in this book. They ended up being disasterous and a rather expensive mistake to make. The ingredient proportions and the oven temperature we obviously incorrect.

  1. They are just to unique too give away and will make better holiday decorations than holiday greetings. Sabuda is genius.

  2. By my title of this review I mean, buy one for yourself as well as buying to send. With every letter of the alphabet represented in a small pop-up card it really is great to have one tin in the house to look at the whole set together. They are small but like all Sabuda's pop-up art a real treat to open.

  3. The cards in this collection are just beautiful, and my friends and family look forward to receiving them each year. I keep a record of which letter of the alphabet I send to each grandchild, although I mix them up, and now they are collecting the cards and working on learning their letters.

  4. Robert Sabuda's pop-up Christmas cards are absolutely wonderful! I have to buy a 2nd set to keep for myself, or there's no way I'm going to be able to send any out to friends and family. I love that the greeting inside is "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays", so I can give them to friends of various faiths. They're truly exquisite, and are sure to be loved by all. We've been impressed by his books, but these cards really wowed us! It's like opening a little gift each time. My family and I spent a good deal of time going through them when our order arrived, each of us choosing our favorites. What a treat! Robert Sabuda is a master at his craft.

  5. Ok.. So who cares about cards? they go in the trash anyway... WRONG... These cards were such a big hit last year I look forward to sending them out again this year. While you won't be able to write a novel, you can elevate having to write the ususal mumbo-jumbo because there's not much space. (I'm seeing the glass 1/2 full) The cards are special and interesting works of art. If you are tired of the same old boring cards, give these a try. I am now a loyal fan.

3 comments about Kids Party Games And Activities (Children's Party Planning Books).
  1. I think I may just like the ideas from this author, because I liked another one of her books. This book will help you with games, invitations, tips, etc. I think it's a good book to keep around and pass around. I was stuck with no ideas and it lifted alot of stress from my party planning.

  2. This book was arranged in 3 age groups. Tha's really helpful, so you can zoom in on your child's party and find just the right activities. Each section includes lots of traditional games as well as innovative ones and other party activities, like face painting. Also included are trip parties and theme parties for each age group.

Each game or activity includes creative suggestions for adapting the game, ideas for prizes and troubleshooting common problems ahead of time. The game directions are complete and easy to follow.

This book will offer ideas for many parties to come. The games may be dropped into your theme. The theme parties offered here are easy and fun and offer the inspiration to add your own ideas.

  3. I was looking for books that would help with active games for my daughter's summer birthday party when I ran across this book. In contrast to many other books which are organized by party theme (dog, princess, superhero, etc.), this book is helpful because it is organized first by age and then by type of activity. The age ranges are preschool (2-5), school age (6-9) and preteen (10-12). The activities are grouped by traditional games, contemporary games, group activities, outings and events (which are closer to the theme parties you get in other books) and entertainers. Each game identifies not just the target range, but how far you can stretch to encompass older kids, the number of players needed, game objective and what materials to have on hand. It also gives ideas for creative ways to modify the game to fit children's disparate interests or different settings, prizes, favors, and trouble-shooting tips. We host our children's birthday parties at home (in contrast to many families, which use other locations such as gymnastics centers, pottery facilities, etc.) so I am always looking for activities both to keep kids active, but also to calm them down at the right time. This book offered ideas for both. All in all, a very helpful book not just for the upcoming birthday party, but also for future play dates and field trips with my kids.

5 comments about Jack and the Leprechaun (Pictureback(R)).
  1. There is no excuse for not buying this book if you are looking for a way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with your child. The paperback is very inexpensive and as such one might think it doesn't have much to offer but it does.

Ivan Robertson managed to write a cute story of a leprechaun while packing a lot of Irish culture and history into this little book. For instance we learn about the date and type of celebration one has in Ireland, what a shillelagh (shaw lay lee) is, what "Cead mile failte" (cade meela fall-cha) expresses, that Gaelic is their oldest language, why shamrocks are important, that green is the national color of Ireland, soda bread is traditional, and "Danny Boy" is a song special to the Country.

Katy Braun's illustrations are fun, festive, and green. This is the best St. Patrick's day book I have found so far for my wee lass.

  2. Ivan Robertson writes a delightful yarn about Irish customs and folklore. The story mentions Gaelic, the oldest language in Ireland, the oak club called a shillelagh, and the importance of the three-leaf clover. The 24-page book is recommended for children 3 to 7 years, which I think is appropriate for the age group. The text is easy to read, and doesn't bite off more than it can chew like many works attempt to do.

Jack and the Leprechaun is illustrated in watercolor, which is bright and cheerful and bursting with details. One could literally spend an hour looking at all the fine points painted into the scenes. The only inharmonious feature of the book is Katy Bratun's version of the Irish flag. The Irish flag is green, white, and orange not orange, white, and orange. Most readers won't notice such minutia, but it is curious with all the research required for this work, the illustrator got it wrong. I only spotted it because I have a bit of Irish in me.

My son, William, is currently into leprechauns, and it's no wonder with his beautiful red hair, and traditional name. He's taking a liking to Jack and the Leprechaun I think mostly because Liam is short for William, and everybody knows leprechauns have red hair. Somehow at five, I think it's okay to identify with the fairies even though their fabled creatures. Had I known when I purchased this book that there were so many well-written leprechaun stories, I surely would have settled on another. Although, considering the economical price, it's hard to be critical.

  3. My son's name is Liam so he LOVED reading about Liam the Leprechaun. It kept his interest and the illustrations were great. We read this book several times a night for days!

  4. Bought this book to read to my 4 year old granson. He LOVED it! Nice illustrations and good story. Perect for the holiday.
    J.

  5. This book looked very cute, but it's not a very fun read for me or for my 3 yo. The author tries to pack way too many Irish words and phrases into the story, which gets in the way of the narrative. After reading it once, she never asked for it again. St. Patrick's Day in the Morning, illustrated by Jann Brett, is a much more engaging read.

  1. This is a beautiful book with colorful illustrations. The text is simple and makes this a quick, informative story. Being a teacher, I could use this story in a preschool class or with older children. Grace Lin is a very gifted illustrator. My daughter and I enjoy all of her books.

  2. Grace Lin's BRINGING IN THE NEW YEAR tells of a Chinese family who sweeps out the old year and brings spring-happiness poems, lanterns and celebrations in for the New Year. Lively color drawings bring to life the customs of one family's Chinese New Year celebrations.

  1. My sister in law purchased this book for our babies first birthdays (my daughter is 4 weeks older than her son). The book was an istant hit with both of them and still is 6 months later. I cannot think of many books that are big hits with both of them. My nephew has played with his so much the battery has been replaced. In a tub of books, this is one my daughter will still seek out to look at. I even bought this book as a gag gift for my friend who loves tacky wacky adult birthday gifts such as these.

5 comments about What Is God Like? (Little Blessings).
  1. This book focuses on the questions little minds ask about God, and gives scriptures for the basis of each aspect of God that is given, so that when your toddler becomes a preschooler, you can have the references you need to answer tougher questions. It's a sweet and simple way to explain who and what God is to your toddler. Our children love it!

  2. What I enjoy about all of Kathleen Bostrom's little books for children is that they are wonderful on several levels. They're attractive for little children, filled with gentle answers to the tough questions kids ask, plus they have helpful sections in the back of each book to let parents know that the information they contain is Biblically sound.

  3. My 4 1/2 year old girl had questions about God that I could not find simple words to answer. This book had all the biblical answers in a simplified way. There are a couple of pages that I wasn't quiet comfortable with so I skip them. What I liked most is that at the end of the book it gave the biblical reference for all the given answers. I sure recommend this book for all kids.

  4. My two year old loves this book, she loves the rhyming phrases and the cute pictures. It is a great way to introduce God to your little ones. We have read it so many times she can "read" it to herself now. She always asks for the "God Book" when we sit down to read. I can't wait to get the other ones.

  5. I absolutely love the Little Blessings books. Before I had a child of my own, I did a ton of babysitting for others. One little boy that I sat for had these books. I loved reading them to him. He really enjoyed these stories and better yet, they teach you about the Lord and what He's all about. They have ones that explain prayer, the cross, about God, about Jesus, about Heaven, and about Angels, etc. Not only do the kids learn, but you pick up things as well. All information in the book comes from verses in the Bible. The book answers many questions that you or your child may have concerning God or Jesus or how to pray. I bought almost everyone of these books to read to my son. I hope that he will be as enthusiastic as others were. Plus, they rhyme and what kid doesn't like rhyming books? It's a great way to spend quality time with your little one. I totally recommend purchasing these books.

  2. I really think this book is intresting. It's the best book I ever read! I really recommend this book.Trust me I am a total Katie Kazoo fan.

  3. I read Katie Kazoo Love Stinks! I think Love Stinks is an exiting, fun book beacause Katie turns into Cinnamon and makes a diaster when she's the candy maker. In the book I read,"Katie had turned into Cinnamon." This helped convince me that it was a good book.
