1 comments about Kneeling Carabao & Dancing Giants: Celebrating Filipino Festivals.
- _Kneeling Carabao and Dancing Giants_ is one of my favorite children's books! I am a second generation Filipina American who grew up hungry to see my family and heritage represented in American books. What I love about _Kneeling Carabao_ is that it brings to life festivals I'd only heard about growing up, like the Christmas Parol festival. From Manila galleons to kulintang music, the history of the Ati-Atihan festival, and ancient Filipino bamboo writing, this book covers, in loving detail, the rich diversity of Filipino culture. The illustrations in _Kneeling Carabao_, while warm and cheerful, are also excellent at showing the myriad skin tones (golden, brown, tan, sandy, olive) and faces of Filipinos. (This is important because of the books that, unthinkingly, portray all Asians as looking the same.) The book is fun, filled with facts, mythology, song, history, and splendid pictures. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about and sharing Filipino culture. Every child in my family receives a copy of this book!

1 comments about The Story of Saint Patrick's Day.
- We have several of the books in this series and have enjoyed them all, until now. The Story of St. Patrick is choppy and does not give a final thought about God's love. I highly recommend The Story of ... Jesus, Noah, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter, but the St. Patrick's day book is more of a novelty.

1 comments about The Three Bears Holiday Rhyme Book.
- From the gorgeous illustrations to the catchy rhymes, this book is a wonderful buy & a fantastic depiction of many holidays ("common" ones such as Thanksgiving as well as more obscure ones such as Earth Day). I especially liked how the author provided a combo poem for Christmas/Chanukah:
Stars are shining
Down the lane,
Making halos
On each pane.
Celebrations
For a night
Made of holy
Candlelight.
For each candle
Say a prayer.
Blessings on us,
Every bear.
I am only surprised not to find more enthusiastic reviews of this book, but perhaps that is because it was published awhile back (I found our copy at a thrift store). It may be an oldie, but it is timeless & classic.

1 comments about Albert's Birthday.
- This is a very good book. When Patsy decides to have a suprise party for Albert, she asks all of Albert's friends to help out. The party is planned and everything is turned out great, everyone did what they were supposed to, but wait Patsy forget to give Albert the invitation. When Patsy relizes this they decided to move the party to Albert. When they are on thier way to bring the part to Albert, they relize that he has just left, and is on his way somewhere. They follow him, and everytime they are close Albert seems to have just left. They are so tired that they take a break at the apple orchard, and what happens. I guess you will have to read the book to find out. I would recommend this book for children ages 3-7.

1 comments about Every Day's a Holiday: Amusing Rhymes for Happy Times.
- The only amusing thing about this collection is that Dean Koontz fancies himself a children's author. The premise is a clever idea gone horribly wrong. Much of the rhyme is unoriginal or forced and some of it goes on and on and on so that we feel we are stuck in one of the author's horror novels. Stick to what you do best Mr. Koontz and leave quality children's writing to quality children's authors, please!
