5 comments about A Deluxe Book of Flower Fairies.
- This is one of the most beautifully illustrated book I have ever owned. I use it to paint watercolor pictures and since purchasing it 2 other of my friends have also purchased it from you.
- gave this to my granddaughter, age 6. Her mom is a folklorist and they love fairies and floers so this was the perfect book for them to share. They love it!
- From the information about the book, I thought it was a complete book of Barker's fairies. It is NOT, and the images I wanted the most were NOT included. The book itself is printed with a sort of "fake elegance," including a padded cover and gold edges on the paper. I would rather had had a conventional binding.
- If you love the flower fairies of years ago, you will love the reprinting of their stories.
- I showed this to my small children, older nieces, sister, mother, friends, and grandmother. It appealed to all of them. I bought the deluxe book of flower fairies, the complete flower fairy book and the paper doll book. I needed them for art reference books.
The difference in the first two is:
The deluxe book has a history of the author, her sketches and inspirations, timeline, her prosesses, lots of botanical notes. very collectiors edition, silver leaf and all.
The complete book has fairy's has a 1 page intro of the author then goes straight into images and poems. each has the seasons collections, but the complete has; in addition, the fairies of the garden, trees, wayside and a flower fairy alphabet.

3 comments about Japanese Celebrations: Cherry Blossoms, Lanterns and Stars!.
- The book that I ordered was SUPPOSED to have 48 PAGES. The book that I recieved in the mail ONLY has 16 PAGES. I have emailed the seller and I have not heard from them. They sold me a book that is NOT supposed to be sold, it says so on the in side the cover. I called Barns and Noble and they said that it is a copy for book stores to review before they buy many copies. I paid for a incomplete book!!!!! Very disappointed!
IF I had gotten the whole 48 page book, I believe that it would have been a really great book to teach students about the many different holidays that are celebrated in Japan. That is what I was going to use it for but since all of the pages were not there I could not use the book. I'm sure that if I had the full 48 page book I would have given it five stars and a better review.
- A beautiful book. Betty Reynolds is an American who was a keen observer while living in Japan. Her illustrations are wonderful and she covers the whole year and includes a lot of Japanese words (with pronunciations and explanations). There is so much information packed into a very easy to read and beautiful format. I highly recommend any of Betty Reynolds' bookds to anyone who wants to understand Japanese culture or who is studying Japanese.
- With great drawings, this light text proceeds through the seasons of Japan explaining the holidays. References to food, culture and customs are made throughout. Great way to learn about Japanese celebrations.

1 comments about Hurray for Today!: All About Holidays (Cat in the Hat's Lrning Libry).
- In this colorfull book the Cat in the Hat takes us around a whole year.
Starting in winter we sail through all four seasons, it's rituals, age old and newer. The earths position to the sun, creating cold weather in winter and warmth in summer, is explained. Festivals are described with their origins and what many people do to observe them. Starting with December and it's festivals the book ends with Thanksgiving with a verse about peace and plenty in all the worlds lands. Very nice and comforting thought if read before bedtime.
Reading this with my children (7, 4 and 2) is a joy. They recognize their favorite traditions. I also got to learn a lot of interesting facts myself, like how the Easter bunny came to be. A great book to come back to time and time again, to see what season is now and what's coming soon.
On the last pages you have, like in all books of this series, a glossary for special terms and a list of other books to read about holidays.

5 comments about Daddy's Girl.
- Read this book in it's entirety before buying! I work in a childrens specialty store, and we acquired this book. Recently, I watched a daddy pick up this book read the first page to his baby daughter, put the book down and walked out of the store. I immdediatly went over and read the book.
First of all Robin Preiss Glasser's illustrations are adorable (as always). As beautiful as the illustrations were, the book was ladden with incestual content. NO father should ever talk about, nor think about his daughter in this way! I would be mortified if my husband thought this was a great book for he and our daughter to share. Garrison Keillor's words can easily be portrayed as pedifilia. It is not a stretch of the imagination to come to this conclusion either-read the first page with an open mind and a critical eye! When you do, consider that not everyone views it in the same innocent manner that it was probably intended.
I would also like to add that our store supervisory team (including quality assurance techs, education teachers) have recommended it be removed from the shelves. As of today, it is no longer available at our specialty store. Maybe those naive persons that have no issues with the content of the book are, infact, the ones with underlying unhealthy attachment issues.
- I've never seen the word "ecstasy" used in a children's book before. Call me crazy, but I don't want my daughter asking me what "ecstasy" is for a loooooong time! Now I'm very open minded but this is just a weird and unfortunate choice of words along with some content others have mentioned. It's a shame since it is beautifully illustrated and would be fun to share. I wouldn't recommend it though.
- I was really suprised to see so many negative reviews here. My whole family gets a kick out of this book. When I first saw the title "Daddy's Girl", I groaned inside. I was afraid it was going to be sickly sweet and tear jerking sentimental. Instead it is very real to life- this is how it is to have little kids people! You DO talk about wiping their bottoms, because you have to do it about 5 times a day for the next 5 years!(ever heard a parent refer to their little one's cute little "tushie"? Did you ever think they were a sicko for saying it?)
I recommend this as a great book for the modern day, hands-on, involved in parenting like he is supposed to be kind of dad. (and the CD is great too)
- My nine-month-old daughter loves the singsongy rhymes of this book. (We have the board book without the CD.) We recite the diaper-changing rhymes to distract her on the changing table, and she loves the list of foods-- even though she doesn't know what "souvlaki" is, it's a fun, silly word. Nobody knows what a "wocket" is, either, but Dr Seuss is still a classic!
The content is quite appropriate, and I'm really not sure how anyone could construe this daddy-daughter relationship as pedophilia. Merriam-Webster defines "ecstasy" as "intense joy or delight." My daughter certainly feels that way about bananas! I'm not sure how Keillor's use of the word could be categorized as "deviant", as some of the other reviews contend.
One caveat-- if there are older siblings in the house, they're likely to pick up on the word "[...]" and run with it!
- I honestly don't understand the negative comments about this book! It is absolutely charming and really brings out the emotions felt by a daddy for his little girl. I received this last father's day (from my mom) and barely got through it due to the fact I got so choked up reading it (and still do!). And to the person who wrote they were somehow offended by the word "ecstasy" is a total moron! The word means "delight and/or joy" you loser! (read a dictionary next time). I think many of these negative comments are from people who are simply emotionally detached! And the person who wants to see this book taken out of schools - Some fanatical religious nut no doubt! Yes there is one strange verse about the girl having fat little legs (or something like that) --- But don't most toddlers? I get the it! It's an endearing reference. The verses are wonderful, the drawings show the joy in both the daddy and the little girl and their delight in being together. Now that my daughter is 18 months old (with brown curly hair I might add) we often read the book together before I go to work. Many of the verses and pictures depict the feelings I have for her and the daily things we do together. When she sees the pictures of the daddy and the girl sleeping she says "shoosh....nignt, night"; she loves the pictures of the girl eating and points to the food naming many of the items. And just like the story, her favorite is bananas! She wiggles and pretends to dance when we come to the part where the dad is dancing with his daughter. And she hugs and kisses me when we get to the end, as they are doing in the book.
Don't believe these morons that are negative over this book! These people are the people who probably would even take their kids to Disneyland because of the "oversized mouse" that is running around!
This is absolutely one of the most charming little books about a dad and his little girl I have ever come across! So there!

5 comments about Children Just Like Me: Celebrations!.
- The photos are vivid and the stories are interesting. This is a great book to introduce children to some festivals and celebrations around the world.
- I love this book and I use it all the time to teach children about other faiths and cultures. The beautiful, realistic photos make it great for sharing. When I am not using it, it makes a nice coffee table book. My only criticism is that it always makes me want to research more (not a lot of text, but the photos and illustrations make it worth having).
- A visually-rich companion peice to this wonderful kid-friendly introduction to world politics and cultures is "For a Better World: Posters from the United Nations" by Edward Marks. More than half the posters feature the worlds' children and the plights they face, each in an artistic creation that inspires hope. What better way to educate children that "no human is an island"?
- This is a very interesting book, with wonderful pictures and lots of joy. It's a book that makes you happy. Many of the celebrations were unknown to me, and it was fun to see that the Swedish celebration of St. Lucia is described correctly in the book (I'm Swedish).
The only doubtful thing about this book is that the mix of different religions isn't very good. Most celebrations are Christian or Hindu - only one is Muslim and none is purely Buddhist. That's a bit of a pity. Anyway, great book.
- Another in the excellent series of DK's partnership with the U.N. -- an amazing trip around the world to view different holidays through children's eyes. The emphasis is on celebrations that center around children or where children play a big role, and the book tries to give a broad cross-section of countries, peoples and cultures/faiths (no book can be all-inclusive).
Keeps an excellent balance between pictures and text -- the pictures are colorful, fascinating and detailed, the text is informative. This should be back in print!
Great job by the Kindersleys!

5 comments about Bunny Party (Max and Ruby).
- I am rating this a 5-star book from the kids point of view. Kids just love the story, memorizing the names of all the toys that attend the bunny party, etc... My kids (a 4 year old boy and a 1.5 year old girl) drag out stuffed toys and a teaset at least three times a week to have a bunny party of their own.
If you buy this book, you will have to read it a gazillion times. From the parent's viewpoint, it's not the greatest book that you'll ever read a gazillion times to your kids, but it's way better than one of the books that you dread when they say, "Can we read it again tonight?" And hey, it's not our opinion that counts anyway, right?
- Max and Ruby are my new favorite book characters in books for younger children. My kindergarten students love the short text, colorful illustrations, and of course, mischievous little Max. After reading the Easter book "Max's Chocolate Chicken" all Fall and Winter, I'm finally getting them some more Max books!
In "Bunny Party", Max's older sister Ruby, throws a party for their Grandma. Ruby's guest list includes her "Rapunzel", "Mr. and Mrs. Quack" and the "Tooth Fairy", but leaves no room for Max's favorite toys. Sneaky Max finds his own way to crash the party with his "Jellyball Shooter Spider" and several other guests. I love Ruby because she is such a girl in the toys that she owns and in the type of party that she plans for Grandma. I love Max because he is such a boy in the toys that he owns and in the way he wants to be included in his older sister's party plans. And I love Rosemary Wells for creating characters that children will want to see to over and over again in stories that adults can also appreciate and enjoy.
- These are such cute books! They reinforce in a simple form the relationship of siblings. My daughter loves these two characters with sassy personalities. I reccomend the board books for the little ones.
- I have four young children. We love all the Max and Ruby books but this is one of favorites. Max's determination to invite his "friends" to Grandma's party is hilarious.
- If you have a question about whether or not you need to great all the Max and Ruby books, don't hesitate to snap them up. These are the ones for buying, go get those other books at the library. This one is counting themed but not in any lame way. Max still wins and Ruby kind of does too and Grandma is still happy with everything.
That's what you need to know. Go buy now.

5 comments about Max's Chocolate Chicken (Max and Ruby).
- The best part about this book is realizing -- after several readings -- how Ruby, the older sister, tries to manipulate her little brother by telling him he has to win an egg hunt to win the chocolate chicken. But of course, big sister gets humbled (and her own chocolate chicken) in the end.
This book is my kids' favorite Max and Ruby book, but they are all good, especially Bunny Cakes.
- I think the previous reviewer (tabris02) has given good advice. This book will either resonate with you or it won't. We received it as a gift and were a bit puzzled by it, asking grandma, "What kind of lesson are you trying to teach our toddler?" The bulk of the story was cute, as Max mucked about in the yard while Ruby single-mindedly found every Easter egg. But the ending didn't sit well with me...selfishness with no remorse or consequences or even awareness of his sister's feelings. Years later, with three kids, I realize that siblings will learn to be competitive and selfish even without seeing those traits demonstrated in books. So, I've lightened up a bit. But I still don't find myself reaching for this book on our shelf. Of the Max and Ruby stories, I prefer Bunny Cakes. Another of our favorite Rosemary Wells books is Fritz and the Mess Fairy (Fritz is a slob who during one amazing night tries to make it up to his family by cleaning the entire house and fixing them breakfast in bed. In the process, he makes a huge mess again in the kitchen...but his efforts to improve himself and express his love to his family are very endearing!).
- This book was so cute! It reminded me so much of me and my one sister. I used to always find her candy and sneak a piece or two (she took forever to eat hers!). My sisters and I all love each other and we're extremely close. Kids will be kids and have their little antics--that's what gives us times to look back on. It is also what makes us so close to each other. This book is one we read every single day during the Easter Season!
- if they're smoking something. I got this as a discard from the library, and decided it might be suitable for the library in my preschool class. The pictures are cute and yet, disturbing as well. The story makes no sense, and the children did not really enjoy any part of it. I left it in their little library for months, and they never looked at it. This story is simply too bizarre for children, although I'm sure it's great for adults after enjoying certain herbal refreshments. This teacher gives it a "D".
- My kids LOVE this book! It figures that someone who thinks that stuffy Ruby bossing her brother around (Bunny Cakes) would NOT like poor Max unable to resist the chocolate chicken! I cannot believe that people take this book so seriously! Our kids giggle and smile while we read as Max hides from his industrious, single-minded, bossy boots sister while messily munching the chicken. I love the new version of the Easter bunny, the artistry on the eggs is delightful as well as the droll humor.
I think that the lesson that this book teaches our children is that life is fun and chocolate chickens shouldn't be taken too seriously! Or- since rule-making Ruby is the oldest, she would no doubt be the winner of the egg hunting contest and once again a frustrated Max outwits her! Hooray for the underdog (bunny).

5 comments about The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming: A Christmas Story.
- This is the BEST Chanukah story book ever. It is one of the few that address what it is like to be different from everyone else during Christmas time.
- In true Lemony Snicket fashion, The Latke That Couldn't Stop Screaming catches the attention of child and adult alike. What was really nice was the way the book very simply highlighted the most well known icons of the winter holidays while pointing out how they aren't exactly true to the respective spirit of the seasons - but for the little potato pancake. It's a good book for children of all faiths.
- This book is quite entertaining and my preschool kids love it! I liked it so much I bought one for my son and one as a gift. Its has a great message for all of us as well.
- A marvelous little book by lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler). In it, Snicket once again uses his humor and his wit to enchant and delight. Well worth the read! (Especially, if you buy it on sale).
- I loved this silly Christmas book about an irritated and misunderstood latke in December. It took me all of five minutes to read it, but it was funny enough that I went back and read it a second time right away.
I think little kids would really enjoy the sound effects ("AAAAAAAAAAHH") and big kids and adults will enjoy the wry humor.
The art is VERY simple, though the cover is stylishly embossed, and the text takes just a few minutes to read, so it isn't a stand-out selection by any means. If you have a stash of Christmas books you pull out each year for the kids, this might be a fun one to add to the stack. Just be aware that you are purchasing a novelty book and not one that will last for years and years of re-reading. I bought my copy for a couple bucks and that is about how much pleasure I got from it.

1 comments about Mother's Day.
- I read this book to my class for Mothers Day. We visit Mrs Madoffs class as we have just about every holiday. (I want to be in her class, she is so nice)! The children discuss the different ways that they will celebrate the holiday, making breakfast, snuggling, and various other ways. The children were asked to bring in a button for class. The children used the button to make a tissue paper flower as a gift. The book gives step by step directions. As always Anne deals with the difficulties of the holday with a student who was celebrating with her grandmother as her mother had passed away. The craft is really cute, the children and mothers spent lots of time picking out their button and had little stories about why they chose that button. Mom's didn't know what the button was for and were so surprised that it was to make a flower. Really great!

5 comments about Curious George Complete Adventures Deluxe Book and CD Gift Set.
- We use books on cd as an alternative to using a dvd player in the car... and these cd's work perfectly for that! The narrator tells you what the picture is on the page where the story starts if you want to follow along with the book (which my kids sometimes do). I like that they have the sound that lets you know when to turn the page (if you choose that track, every other track has the page turn sounds)... some kids' books on cd/tape don't do that and if you have a kid that isn't a reader yet, it makes it harder to follow along without a reader's assistance. These are also great for bedtime... we will read one story, then turn out the lights and the kids can go to sleep to another one (without the page turning sounds).
I wish that all kids collections were available like this one.
- Tells when they need to turn the page. My 4 yr old loves it. Him and my 2 yr old love Curious George!
- My Grandson loves Crious George and I am always satisfied with my purchases from Amazon.
- I bought this set for my 4 year old boy. Little did I know that this would also be a mommy sanity saver gift as well. I gave this to my little boy with a cd player to enjoy. On the first day he opened it, I had forgotten that he was in the house beacause he was so quiet, for a whole hour. And well my little boy is like Curious George, always into something. So for him to be quiet and out of trouble for an hour was a glorious event in my house. He enjoys the book and cd so much that now it's his own little word of reading and enjoying. He even brings it in the car to take with him to enjoy. What an incredible gift this turned out to be. I highly recommend to anyone. I will definitely keep on my list to buy again as Birthday presents in the future. Trust me all your friends with thank you endlessly.
- I forgot how long Curious George books are. I remembered them being short when I was a kid. Anyway, my 4 year loves the cartoon and show on PBS so I thought I would give these a try. She really likes these books w/ CD. She can follow along on her own. Audio and Narrators are very good. My 4 year old has a long attention span. Some of these books can be up to 30 minutes. If your child cannot sit still that long, it may not be for you.
