  1. I absolutely love this book, and so does my 2-year-old! I got it for her just before her 2nd birthday to introduce the concept to her, and she is completely captivated by it. Like all the Humphrey books, it's so beautiful to look at, the characters and their little dilemmas are easy to identify with, and the story is just warm and lovely. Classic Humphrey and Lottie fun!

  2. My daughter stumbled across a stuffed Humphrey elephant, and it quickly became her most prized possesion. Humphrey is popular is Great Britain, but harder to find here. We were thrilled to find out that there's a series of books too. The illustrations in the books are just precious. The colors are soft, and the details are darling. Humphrey's Birthday is very sweet. The author puts you back into the mind and innocence of being little and having a special day. My daughter has enjoyed this book for more than a year, and she still wants to read it all the time. This book makes a GREAT birthday present/keepsake book. If you like this one, check out the whole series!

1 comments about DK Readers: Holiday! Celebration Days Around the World (Level 2: Beginning to Read Alone).
  1. Deserves 0 stars probably. This book is inaccurate and an insult to Jews. They spend 4 pages on some holidays, two on others, but mothers day and fathers day get at least two pages, even April fool's day, but Hanukah is reduced to be a one liner at the last sentence of the book and is inaccurate in it's description leaving you to wonder if there are other inaccuracies. Great idea for book for those looking to learn about other cultures and their holidays, someone should write a better one!

5 comments about Make Your Own Calendar 2008.
  1. My children love to draw the pictures for each month and enjoy using the calendar. They have just asked for these for the 3rd year in a row. With my kids, the calendars have been a big hit at ages 3-7 so far.

  2. This is a great calendar. I have been buying them for the past six years for my kids. Each month my kids sit down and color the calendar page for the upcoming month. It is a great way to see the growth in your child's development. At the end of the year the calendar is a great keepsake because you can see the progress in each month's drawing. I really recommend this for a 2-6 yr old. My almost 8 yr old won't be getting one this Christmas because she has outgrown them, but my 4 yr old definately will. I also buy these for late in the year birthday party gifts- they are really cute!

  3. This is a great calendar to use with my daughters. We have used it the last 2 years and starting our 3rd year. We practice writting letters, learning colors, days of the week and all the months, etc. It helps anticipate celebrations and events or when an activity will be over. The anxiety factor is really reduced for them. We use about 75% of the stickers. When we run out of certain stickers, we just write it in. It's also a why to preserve some artwork from each month we have done. Love it and gave it to several friends and family as a gift.

  4. My 5-year old and I have been very happy with this calendar! It has about 200 stickers of holidays and special activity days you can put on with your child that we have had a lot of fun with (a lot more stickers than the Highlights calendar). It also has a blank month page every month for you to draw a picture, which is bordered by simple seasonal pictures and shapes to color in. Great fun!

  5. My five year old son completed the 2007 calendar and really wanted the 2008 for Christmas. It's a great calendar for young kids - very engaging with lots of stickers for holidays and special events. It's a fun way to learn about time and the days of the week and months.

3 comments about Flower Girl Butterflies.
  1. FLOWER GIRL BUTTERFLIES tells all about Sarah's preparations to be a flower girl in her Aunt Robin's wedding. She picks out her dress, prepares for visiting family, and attends the wedding rehearsal. Throughout all of these experiences she shares her feelings, at times she is excited and at others she is very nervous. When the big day arrives will she be ready?

Little girls in particular are sure to enjoy this book. The illustrations for the story are absolutely beautiful and really complement the story well. I also enjoyed the fact that Sarah shared her feelings; she described what she was feeling and then labeled it. This modeling is an excellent way for young readers to learn to identify and label their own feelings. However, there was no build up in anticipation of the big wedding day and as a result, the story lacks excitement and read more like a "to do" list for flower girls at times.

  2. There is going to be a wedding and the little girl who is the main character in the story has been asked to be the flower girl! She is really excited. She gets to dress up in a pretty dress and walk down the aisle in front of her aunt. It's a very important job. She starts to think that it might be to hard. She thinks she might not to a good enough good. She gets scared. She talks with her family about it and they make her feel much better.
The little girl shared her feelings with her aunt about being scared. This shows kids that when you have scared feelings it's ok to talk with a grown up about them.
I would recommend this book families who are getiing ready to have weddings. The book will be a great way to bring up discussions on lots of wedding matters like mammers and feelings about weddings.

  3. My little one was put at ease about the huge responsibility of being a flower girl after several readings of this book.
She knew just what to expect and how to handle "Flower Girl Butterflies".

1 comments about Arthur's Easter Activity Book : With Reuseable Stickers!.
  1. Over fifty stickers can be used and reused on glossy scenes of the family kitchen, Arthur's classroom or a local park. Activity pages include coloring, word search, mazes, matching, a crossword, hidden pictures and a lesson in how to draw Arthur. There's also an answer page. Lots here to keep an Arthur or D.W. fan busy for a while, and a nice introduction to various puzzle types.

Stickers depict many characters from Marc Brown's series as well as Easter-themed objects. Very nice.

5 comments about Valentine Princess (Princess Diaries, Vol. 7 3/4) (Princess Diaries).
  1. My daughter appreciated this as a Valentine's Day gift and is enjoying the peripheral storyline.

  2. An enjoyable, very short book. Does not take long to read at all. Mia as usual is totally insane, though she seems a bit stronger and willing to let some things just happen, than totally freaking out. She is stuck b/c Michael has already declared that he doesn't beleive in the propaganda for Valentine's day, but at the same time Mia really wants to give him one since it is their first one together.

Its funny and the ending is very sweet.

  3. Meg Cabot has done it again. I just love her princess collections. Each one is as sweet as it can be. the way mia and michael express their love and the way mia is always confused is really interpreted in a beautiful way..

  4. Short, fluffy novella for the series about Mia's first Valentine's Day with Michael. Her grandmere has gotten entangled with an astrologer, and some of Mia's friends don't understand the spirit of the holiday. Fun, light reading. Grade: B

  5. I thought that this was cute novella. Meg Cabot has certainly done it again with another, however short, installment of the life of our favorite princess.

1 comments about Fiestas: A Year of Latin-American Songs and Celebrations.
  1. This book contains lots of catchy songs, which can be used for everyday. I've used a few of them in my classroom and the children seem to love it. There are a few action songs which really help me entertain kindergarteners. Along with this book.. you should get diez deditos and De Colores. They're written by the same author. The author also adds some notes about the songs, and cute little diagrams which help you with the actions. This is an excellent book to a kid's or a teacher's library.
