5 comments about Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights.
- i loved this cd, and the movie, i think, is the funniest movie this year! you gotta buy this cd! even if you didnt see the movie!
- How many remakes of the "Chanukah Song" do we have to endure! I never liked the song in the first place simply because it really isn't funny. I only saw the movie because it was so overly promoted that I anticipated it would be something great, which it was not. Were the producers in a hurry to get this out for Chanukah? The Christophopic overtones is outragious and it simply was not funny!
- This is what Adam Sandler was made for. He made one of the funniest movies of 2002. How does this man make up all these hilarious songs and do most of the chachter's in the movie. This is a wonderful CD packed with the great songs from the movie. I think it is well worth the 10 or so bucks to get and i promise you will laugh so much when listening to this. Adam is awesome!!!!!!!
- This cd should be called another Sandler album, rather that just a soundtrack. Yes, it includes all of the songs from "8 Crazy Nights," so, in that sense it is a soundtrack... but all of the songs are written and performed by Adam Sandler. They do include other people, but so do songs from his other albums. So, in that sense it should also be called a Sandler album. Call it both... but anyway, this is a very good cd, short (only 8 songs), but the songs are great.
The most memorable songs include:
"Davey's Song"
"Technical Foul"
"Bum Biddy"
"Chanukah Song, Part 3"
Wether you collect Soundtracks from movies, or you collect Sandler albums, this cd deserves a spot in your collection.
- For those of you that think this movie is unfunny, you obviously haven't seen Adam Sandler's mind-numbing appearance in Punch Drunk Love. His character Barry Egan was so pathetic and boring. It is unmistakable that Adam Sandler is a comedian, so why would he try a romantic film?
Having said that, I think Eight Crazy Nights is hilariously funny, but this is not really a kid's movie, but more of a cartoon for adults. It is a nice holiday movie, Sandler's first animated movie, but hopefully not his last. It was also the first real movie to focus on the Jewish holiday of Hanukah. This movie I think is very underrated. The music, animation, and the added vocals of Alison Krauss for the singing voice of Jennifer was a nice touch.

5 comments about All Angels.
- It's Saturday here in Chicago. I just heard these girls being interviewed on Classic FM.
They sound like great girls, each already more than a little accomplished. Interspersed in the interview were at least four complete tracks from the CD. Unbelievable sounds, harmonies and individual solo passages. Angelic is a perfect description.
I'm here today to buy it for myself.
- OK, this really IS pure, fresh, angelic singing that gives you that "tingle factor"! (I know, it's hard to find that, but this did it for me!)
Simply gorgeous singers, crunchy arrangements, top-notch instrumentalists, fresh sound, well-crafted engineering and production. It's hard not to gush with positive adjectives!
I like the mixture of mainly classical favorites with a few pop, folk and spiritual songs thrown in. I'm a classically trained singer/composer/musician who also loves pop and rock, so I appreciate good quality music of many genres, especially those that integrate different influeces, like this does.
When you play this CD, you will find it hard to do anything but listen in awe - it makes your skin tingle, your soul awaken, your breath deepen! It's better than a shot of...well...you can fill in the blank!
I know all these songs are "popular" classics, so maybe some music snobs won't like the "mainstream"-ness of this. But on the other hand, those who aren't "into" classical music would actually like this (I challenge ANYONE not to like this CD!)
It was fun (and a nice surprise) to hear an arrangement of the British pop artist, Robbie Williams' song, "Angels" on the CD! This was one of Robbie William's big hits that made it across to the USA (I think)...
And what an orgasmic arrangment of "Windmills of your mind" - I love the subtle accordion in this, just tugging further on the heart strings! Wow.
I've heard many different arrangements of the classical songs, "The Flower Duet", Pachelbel's "Canon in D", "Barcarolle", "Cavellera Rusticana", "Ave Verum", "Ave Maria", and Barber's "Agnus Dei", but these really are fresh sounding and stirringly performed. Enough to make even the seasoned classical musican sit up and take notice. And entrancing enough to hook the new-comer to classical music.
I've started playing this CD to my young kids - what a fantastic introduction to classical music for them. (Watch out, it will make them distinguish good quality from cheap imitations!)
Infact, I'm so impressed with this CD, I am now going to buy several copies of it to give to my musician and non-musician friends for Christmas... I'm pretty sure they will all get as much joy from this as I have.
This would also be wonderful for wedding music, or any special occasion. (As well as just lovely for relaxing to at home). Very powerful.
- If you are even considering buying this CD, do so - you will love it! The beauty of this music, and their voices, is beyond explanation; you must experience it. The choice of songs was wonderful for their talent. This CD is absolutely some of the most lovely music ever recorded.
- My wife orginally discovered the group in Classic FM magazine and we picked up the CD to give it a try.
What a great CD!
Easy listening and a joyful experience.
Their version of Robbie Williams "Angels" may be even better than the orginal(almost).
Great music by established young voices who really put their heart and soul into these popular songs performed "classically".
A must have CD and I look forward to seeing them in concert soon.
Sam Hendricks, author of "Fantasy Football Guidebook" and the May 2008 release of "Fantasy Football Almanac 2008".
- Very pleasant to listen to. A must have? Perhaps in a few years of maturing will this group be in the must have category.

A very pleasant trip back to a time when the bandleader was the star and the band was called an Orchestra! Highly recommended for fans of 1940's music and vocalists.
- This is a true 1940's collection. It features several things I've never seen elsewhere. The whole thing is pleasant and not the same few 1940's Christmas songs. If you like nostalgia and warmth at Christmas, this will enhance the season.
- I love the old time feeling of this CD. Go back to the old days where the Christmas music was honest and real. I'm a Christmas music freak and this CD is perfect for me.
- A Merry 1940's Christmas features twenty six great songs by some of the best artists of the 1940s. This CD is sure to please everyone who enjoys classic Christmastime vocals; and I can't believe it's not currently in print!
The CD starts with the famous Kate Smith performing "A Merry American Christmas." This charming tune uses the brass well as Kate Smith sings this to perfection. Kate's excellent diction bolsters her performance, too. Gene Autry also does his classic "Here Comes Santa Claus (Down Santa Claus Lane)." The melody is sweet and Gene Autry delivers this upbeat tune without a superfluous note! Love the bells and percussion! Moreover, listen for a young Frank Sinatra singing "Christmas Dreaming (A Little Early This Year)." The strings enhance the natural beauty of "Christmas Dreaming (A Little Early This Year)" and Frank never sounded better!
The hits keep coming. Listen for Pearl Bailey and Hot Lips Page on "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Their banter during this great number makes it nothing short of perfect. Dinah Shore and the Rhythmaires perform a lovely rendition of "The Merry Christmas Polka;" and Frank Sinatra returns to sing a splendid "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas."
We also get Gene Autry's " Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" which was a big hit for him when others considered it too "corny" to record; and the CD ends with a charming interpretation of "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" with Kay Kyser & His Orchestra; Harry Babbitt sings this last number to perfection. I have to wonder why I haven't heard more of Harry Babbitt.
Of course, there are some additional numbers that stick to the more religious themes of Christmas. We get "Adeste Fideles (O Come, All Ye Faithful)" and "Ava Maria."
The liner notes have great artwork and the essay by Joseph F. Laredo is very informative. Great!
Overall, anyone who enjoys classic Christmastime vocals will cherish this album for years to come. I highly recommend this CD of classic holiday tunes.
- Perfect as a gift for those who remember when. CD has many classic Christmas hits still heard today during the holidays. Enjoyed an afternoon at home reminiscing with Mom and Dad who were youngsters when this music was popular.

5 comments about Abriendo Puertas.
- Abriendo Puertas is the second of Gloria's three Spanish CDs, but the last I became familiar with. At first I was disappointed as it seemed less "serious" and "cutting edge" than Mi Tierra or Alma Caribena, but increased familiarity has revealed its considerable charms.
This is a holiday (Christmas and New Years) related album, but not really a Christmas album as such. All the songs are based on Latin dance rhythms and represent the kind of high spirited festival music that is popular at that time of year. This is as much composer/arranger/instrumentalist Kike Santander's album as Gloria's-- he has written 10 relentlessly upbeat, wonderfully arranged songs, inventive and polished to perfection. The details of the songs are quite wonderful, and Gloria's singing is ideal for this idiom. This is really a great album to put you in a good mood, as well as for appreciating top of the line musicanship. The Gold Star award for the songs must go to "Felicidad", which is just that, and the impossibly infectious "Tres Deseos", (try and play it just once!). All together, Gloria Estefan's 3 Spanish CD's are a real achievement, and prove that her real talent is in her Latin heritage, and not in the rather ordinary English language albums she is more famous for.
- This is the best spanish CD EVER I recommed it you wont be dissapointed.
- Gloria's second Spanish release has to be her most exciting (along with 1998's Gloria!) The songs have a very authentic Latin sound. It's almost like she took the last song from Mi Tierra and continued on with the songs on Abriendo Puertas.
The songs have a New Year's and Christmas theme, with messages about starting over, sending good wishes, as well as about just having fun. "Mas Alla" is the softest number, so lovely it brings a tear to your eye. "Farolito" is the most interesting, because of its tribal blend of chanting and rhythmic hand claps. There are many different Latin and Caribbean styles, which Gloria has written about prior to the lyrics of each song. She tells what styles you'll hear in the particular song, where they come from, and the instruments that are used to get a particular sound. This one isn't translated like her two other Spanish CD's are. So, even though you may not get the lyrics, the message of loving life is clear throughout the entire CD.
- I am happy to send a review of this seller. My CD came quickly and was wrapped securely. I couldn't believe the promptness and have been enjoying it ever since. Thanks!
- I'm 1/2 Cuban and I've been a fan since "Conga". This is her best album of all time. With an old world feel she brings Cuba to you with these songs. This album has never left my car and I can't imagine not owning it. In fact if I was on a desserted island and could only have one cd this would be it.

5 comments about Paris 1998.
- First of all, the change of the conductor. We were used to the thundering conducting of Mehta. Then, Pavarotti is not the same man that he was in '94 and in '90. His range fell a lot. Then, he dared to sing a song that is traditionally sang by Domingo (Granada) It lacks opera arias. Not a good purchase. Buy the first or the second albums.
- I found this is one of my favorite of all "The Three Tenors" recordings. I would have loved to have been present one the night of this concert. I want to say all of the tenors do a superb job. I cannot understand why people put down Carreras because he proves here how much he appreciates his gift. Domingo is almost flawless. I have been a fan of Pavarotti since I 1980 (when I was just 12). Here is my personal favorite, Caruso.
- I was blessed to have a chance to be in Paris at that time, and really one of the reasons I went to the City of Romance was because I was so eager to go to the Three Tenors Concert. I managed to get a very good seat at the front in order to really experience and enjoy the concert that I had been dreaming to go all my life, because I am so madly in love with classical and opera music. Also I am a great fan for all of these three tenors, particularly Placido Domingo.
Having watched the Three Tenors Concert in Los Angeles, which was so great and inspiring, I was hoping this one can turn out to be greater and more successful. However it really failed my expectation and turned me into disappointment. Several mistakes were made which surely caused this concert to be a failure. First, the choice of the conductor. James Levine was really the wrong choice for the position which is actually the heart of such an important event. His style of conduct and taste of music was proven unsuitable. It did not make you feel excited, but at sometimes made you feel uneasy and uncomfortable. Second, something seemed to be limiting Domingo's ability and talent to be fully expressed. In fact he appeared to be much older and less energetic. The usual powerfulness and beauty of his voice really disappeared somewhere that can be hardly known. As for Pavarotti we can only give him an average mark for his performance. Third, lack of common sense. Even three years old child knows Granada has to be and is best to be sung by Domingo, just like Nessun Dorma has to be by Pavarotti, but I just can't understand why the organiser or the music directors did not realize this? Were they too commercially motivated or too careless??? Jose was the best and played an instrumental role to keep this concert going, my admiration towards him grow more after this event. Anyway huamns do make mitakes including the famous and popular ones. Although this concert was not their greatest my support for them will still remain.
- Once again, the Tenors electrified the world. It was estimated that over 1.6 billion viewers saw this extraordinary display of musical genius.
The Pavarotti rendition of "Nessun Dorma" was breathtaking as he "hit" his famous high C with VINCERO!!! With the exception of "Nessun Dorma & Caruso", I felt that it was Domingo who carried the show. His voice style changes so dramatically to fit the mood and melody of each song. Carreras, I felt, was lacking the "oomph" in his solos on this tour. However, no one can top Carreras when a line needs to be delivered that has "deep-gut" emotional feelings, almost mad sounding, i.e. the song "Because" -- listen when he sings "his love makes mangle of devile...", you'll understand what I mean. Combine the Three together and you have pure brilliance. Listen to the song "You'll Never Walk Alone" is almost patriotic like. "O' Sole Mio" and the show stopper "La Donna Mobile" left the people standing and cheering. The Paris setting was spectacular. James Levine was his normal go lucky conductor self as he makes the viewing audience and the orchestra feel at ease with his upbeat facial expressions. An awesome addition to your collection. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see why the world has labled them "The Three Tenors." BRAVO
- The last of the great tenor concerts that is worth watching!

5 comments about Christmas.
- Awesome! 2 yrs ago I found the Low Christmas CD in a store called Secret Sounds. I have a decent Christmas music collection, but wasn't familiar with Low. Now I have a few of their CDs.
Great songs like "If You Were Born Today", "Long Way Around the Sea" (made me feel like I was there with the wisemen), "Just Like Christmas", "Taking Down the Tree" and "One Special Gift". A must have and a great gift because most of your friends or family won't have it or even know about it. One question, in the song "If You Were Born Today", I can't make out one word, "We would kill you by a 'jade or gate'". Sorry, can't make it out nor can anyone else I played it for. Still, I think it's my favorite.
- Anyone wondering why Christmas has become a spiritual wasteland should perhaps hear this a few times. Listen to "Little Drummer Boy" or "If You Were Born Today" as you drive past a shopping mall on a cold and lousy winter day- -say, after Christmas shopping. And keep going until you get home, or wherever your heart is.
- And I mean that as a compliment. Extremely mellow and mind-bogglingly minimalist, Low stays in form with Christmas. Low performs Little Drummer Boy in such a way as only Low could envision it and make it sound not just nice, but actually cool. Sparhawk's vocals make the words sound as meaningful as I am sure they were intended to be. The sound of Drummer Boy is not indicative of the overall sound of the CD, as Drummer Boy features a Mazzy Star or possibly Slowdive-ish fuzzy drone and the rest of the songs are acoustic guitar-based, like most of Low's other works.
It's nearly Christmas as I write this, and I realized that I haven't listened to this CD since last winter. The title, cover art and some of the songs may be about Christmas, or just winter in general, but the music itself is inviting any time of year (something I will have to remember myself). If you are a fan of Low, and you appreciate their sparse sound and the incredibly slow pace of their music, then you should like Christmas. Other great songs include the cover Blue Christmas, Long Way Around the Sea and If You Were Born Today, which is as depressing a song as I have ever heard possibly outside Leonard Cohen or Arab Strap, but is unquestioningly beautiful. By the way, to the reviewer from Shelton, I believe the lyric which you were wondering about was "by age eight." Like I said -- depressing, but beautiful.
- but the line is - If you were born today - they'd kill you by age eight.
do yourself a favor and get your hands on their music and let it whisper into your soul
- My favorite of Low's albums. I do not celebrate Christmas, but can still appreciate their renditions of timeless classics. It also contains a few non-secular songs that are beautiful and have become classics of my holiday music collection.

- A great combination of exilerating music to uplift anyone!
`
- Sure, I fully realize that John Tesh is one of the most bashed and trashed figures in the current music scene. He's a showman, maybe more showman than musician though that's arguable. But the bottom line is that I like the sound on this CD escept for the two songs by James Ingram. I respect those who have no use for Tesh--musicologiests, you might want to stay away from this. But those who enjoy Yanni and the Boston Pops orchestra should find much to favor here. So hold on while I tell you what I liked and why.
GARDEN CITY--The quiet, tentative intro and the ruthmic beat of the development, the build up on intensity as he plays around with the one key phrase. It's this kind of repetition of one phrase that separates those who like this style from those who don't. BARCELONA--A musical portrait of the spanish city including the flavor of the well known bull ring. (I hate the idea of bullfighting, but it is part of the scene of that city.) CONCETTA--A strident piece with modern dissonant moments and great stringed accompaniment. ONE WORLD--Do I spot allusions to X-FILES? BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME--Diane Warren's song popularized by Celine Dion, and from the movie UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL given full treatment here--a natural for the former Entertainment Tonight co-host. GRAND PASSION--Piano and Viola blend BASTILLE DAY--a quiet, rather soulful tribute SPANISH STEPS--A danceable (almost) number here with jazzy overtones. ONE MORE NIGHT--Warren Hill on alto sax and Tesh do their thing with this Phil Collins hit.
- Sick, sick, sick, sick, sick, sick.
- I am a fan of Rush and the B-52's and I like John Tesh. Some of the slow songs are dull, but Barcalona and all his fast songs ROCK. Not many reviews here. and one is from a loon. People are missing out! Remember, critics hate quality. They hate RUSH...enough said.
