1. Gerre Hancock's audience may be small, but of those who love organ music and appreciate thoughtful improvisations thereof, most will love this recording. Hancock conveys a lot of energy in the recording and has great fun with the improvisations while still allowing the beauty of the original melodies to shine through.

1. I purchased this on vinyl when it first came out - it was John Williams' second annual Christmas Pops, and he did a spectacular job.

   The medley of "The Carols of Alfred Burt" - and the explanation behind them from the Symphony Hall programme that year bring this LP full circle. In short, Alfred Burt used to write a Christmas carol every year and enclose it in the family's Christmas cards. John Williams spent time at the Burt household's Christmas parties and the singing of the carols was the high point of the holiday. Mr. Burt passed on at a young age, but immediately before his death made an arrangement to have his carols published commercially. And so we are left with his immortal Christmas carols ; some you knew, particularly "Caroling, Caroling" - some you may not have, as the emotional "Some Children See Him", which is my personal favorite. Not only is the orchestra at its peak - but so is the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

   Of all of the Christmas albums ever produced by the Boston Pops - and this includes those by Mr. Fiedler and Mr. Lockhart - this is my favorite. We still attend the Holiday Pops at Symphony Hall every year, but nothing tops the year in which the "green album" was produced. And nothing tops this album.

   I wish the Pops would go back to more traditional holiday music - Mr. Williams did bring it back with Mr. Burt's carols.




2. I have had this CD for about 5 years now. And I can't wait till christmas time rolls around again to play it! This music is great in the background at a dinner party or for listening while wraping presents or reading. Its a great mood setter. I truly love track #4 Holiday Cheer and #3 A Christmas Greeting.

   Traditional Christmas music at its best!




3. This holiday CD has everything. It literally embodies the feeling of Christmas. From traditional and religious favorites to upbeat cheerful music that takes you and the kiddies back to Santa's workshop, you will not be disappointed.
   This CD is not only musically brilliant, it will bring you the "feeling" of Christmas... what it used to be, what it is now, and what it could be.
   The CD is quite long and will still leave you wanting more. It will bring you to tears one minute and have you rejoicing with happiness the next.
   This has become our "traditional" CD of the holidays and we play it over and over.
   Simply breathtaking.

4. Increible y como lo comenta alguien por ahi, hace mas de 5 a;os que poseo estas grabaciones, primero en cassette y luego en CD y son geniales, brillantes, alegres, reflexivas y estimulantes.
   Los medleys son geniales y las versiones con el Coro del Festival Tanglewood son hermosas, la direccion de Williams es generosa, espontanea, vivaz y recia. La orquesta es pulcra y suena genial.
   Un CD navide;o espectacular.

1. This is THE Christmas CD for the holidays. It has all the beautiful Christmas songs you want. Kiri Te Kanawa's version of Schubert's Ave Maria will bring tears to your eyes, Gabriel Faure's performance of Pie Jesu from Requim is simply beautiful, and the English Concert Choir's performance of Handel's Hallelujah from Messiah will take your breath away. This is a great buy and will be treasured all year long.

1. Every cut on this CD is imbued with deep, soulful energy. "When There's Love" and "25th of Last December" have a lovely syncopated beat. "Because This Child Was Born" is given the full choir-and-orchestra treatment. A duet with Peobo Bryson, "As Long as There's Christmas," is lush and spirited. Ms. Flack's take on that perennial chestnut "The Christmas Song" is particularly personal. Yes, the tempos on this album are on the slow side, as other listeners have noted. But there are times in the busy holiday season when we need to sloooowww down. This CD is a perfect antidote for holiday stress.



2. This album is beautiful that's all I have to say. It could be better but the voice is good enough. If certain reviewers thinks it's so bad than why keep the name am place where they are from blank?! Just asking.



3. If you want some mellow, soulful and tasteful Christmas music with no frills and a fine voice, this is the way to go. Roberta Flack is a class act and this set of songs features some beautiful interpretations, particularly "Little Drummer Boy," "The Christmas Song" and "We Three Kings."
   The Melissa Manchester song "There's Still My Joy" is lovely and Flack's original "25th of Last December" is melancholy set to music. As far as pop music Christmas albums go, this ranks in my top three, with Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis the other two. Highly recommended-especially if you are ready to bash your radio in after hearing "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer" or other such gimmicky Christmas songs one time too many-this will be your respite-there is no 'gimmick'here-just lovely holiday music, sung by one of popular music's best voices.



4. It is filled with the spirit of the holidays and all of the good things that make me look forward to this time of year. It ranges from joyful to melancholy with the depth and soulfulness that Roberta delivers everytime.
   
   I remain one of her greatest fans and this cd is a clear example why I consider her one of the greatest vocalists of our time.



5. You can't go wrong with Roberta Flack... and this album will put your heart in the holiday mood.

1. I have a number of Steven Pasero recordings. This recording and his Nutcracker Suite recordings are in my opinion his best. If you like good classical guitar you'll enjoy this recording. His later recording labeled "Pasero" in which he tried to branch out, adding voices and additional instrumentation was pretty much odd-ball elevator music. However, I really enjoy and often listen to "Guitar Heartsongs".

1. Kurt Bestor is not an extremly well known artist, but he definitly should be. In a bad mood? Kurt Bestor/Seasons brings a feeling of peace and comfort, but at the same time sends chills down your spine with his incredible talent for the piano (especially in tracks 2 and 11). No matter what you normally listen to, Seasons is one of those albums that belongs in everybody's home . I guarentee that just about anyone will enjoy Kurt Bestor/Seasons especially those who really appreciate the sound of a piano.



2. This is one of my favorite CDs. For someone who is musical, this is a must! The compositions are phenomenal, the music is uplifting and soothing at the same time. Close your eyes and listen to the tracks (especially with headphones!).
   "Windjammin'" will take you for a ride on a sailboat;
   "Heartland" will remind you of Thanksgivings past when all of the family was around the table; "First snow" - if snow had sound, it would be this. A musical tribute to each of the four seasons.

2. I heard this album while doing my Christmas shopping and immediately was taken aback by the fresh beats put on the old seasonal classics and the overall musical innovation. I leave this in my car stereo all year long! A great introduction to the talents of the OM artists.



3. If you own a disc or two of this type of music, you already own this one. Nothing different. You've already heard it. Skip this one and check out Merry Mixmas-Christmas Classics Remixed or Reindeer Room Vol.1 instead.



4. I bought this album on a whim. Just something a little different to add to my Christmas music collection. The music is very tracey (not house music) and you sometimes have to really listen to hear the traditional carol or Christmas song underneath...but it is an enjoyable listen. Was great at my Holiday party.



5. It's not so much that i don't like christmas music... it's just that you get beaten to death, from halloween 'til new years, by the same few tunes - year after year after year (ad infinitum). this is a much overdue addition to your holiday music options.
