5 comments about Halloween II: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack.
  1. The Halloween II soundtrack is an 80's version of the 1st. The main theme sounds way different is less scary but still pretty good. The songs I recommend are Halloween Theme, Lauries Theme, The Shape Stalks Again, and Mr. Sandman. Again in many of the tracks there are random sound effects. Mr. Sandman would go better if put with the Nightmare soundtrack. A good piece to the Halloween collection.

  2. With the music of the original halloween getting an improvisation here in the sequel, the soundtrack stands as the best soundtrack of all the halloween movies. from the opnening theme, to the 1-minutes stalking music, to the bonus "mr. sandman," halloween II is definitely the soundtrack to get creepy with.

As a teen, i have always wanted to acquire this soundtrack way back in vinyl form in 1981. i got this cd in 1995, and never regretted from then on that i did purchase this soundtrack, if only to immortalize the alarm-clock, heartbeat, synthesized horror i was looking for!

  3. This is overall the best score to Halloween!!!! It gives creepy sounds to Halloween Theme, a polyphonic version of Laurie's Theme. Its basically the same thing done over by Alan Howarth. You can hear the piano in Laurie's Theme right off the bat. Great soundtrack!!!! Worth every penny!!!! Also check out my new Soundtrack for Halloween: The Awakening!

  4. HALLOWEEN II OST IS ONE EERIE SOUNDTRACK! HALLOWEEN II STANDS TO ME AS ONE OF, IF NOT THE CREEPIEST HALLOWEEN SOUNDTRACK. HERE'S WHY: 1. HALLOWEEN II MAINTAINS THE "ORIGINAL THEMES" ALONG WITH SOME NEW IDEAS. 2. JOHN CARPENTER'S ASSOCIATION WITH ALAN HOWARTH BRINGS TOGETHER TWO GENIUS FORMS OF TALENT. WHILE THE ORIGINAL HALLOWEEN SOUNDTRACK IS A MASTERPIECE, HALLOWEEN II'S FEATURED ELECTRONIC ORGAN BUILDS VOLUME TO THE ORIGINAL THEMES WHILE STILL KEEPING SOME PIANO-BASED TRACKS, SUCH AS "HE KNOWS WHERE SHE IS!" OVERALL, HALLOWEEN II'S ENHANCED SOUNDTRACK IS A HALLOWEEN "CLASSIC."

  5. This has to be one of the best scores in the Halloween series. It has a synthesized-type sound in the opening Michael Myers' theme that sounded better than the original (Halloween 1) piano track. The synthesized/electronically altered score throughout actually works well, especially track 5 "Murder Montage" which is a collection of several cues showing Myers' homicidal violence, including the hydrotherapy tub-scalding-murder. In his demented mission of murder, Michael Myers had some assistance from Carpenter & Howarth in creating a score that's as creepy as the movie it's written for.

  1. Lionna Boyd, Linda Edder, Linda Ronstadt and several more adult artists are found on this compact product.
Each track fits perfectly with the package.
This is the perfect MOR christmas product on the market.

  2. At last, a pop holiday collection for a more mature audience (though anyone enjoying quality Christmas music will like this
CD). You can't go wrong with Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt (covering Joni Mitchell's "River"), Eva Cassidy, Manhattan Transfer and the others. The only exception: Michael Crawford, with a voice that takes some getting use to. Pleasant and sophisticated, good music for nearly any holiday gathering.

  3. This is a very pleasant CD! A nice taste of various artists, and some of their best work. If you like any of these artists, I don't think you'll be disappointed with this CD.

  4. This is a great compulation, with the best recording of Christmas Canon I've heard.

  5. Love love love this CD...infact I listen to it throughout the year. Has such a lovely mix of music!

  1. Looking for a Christmas CD that's fun and whimsical?Look
no further than this CD!It's great for kids and those who
    are young at heart!

  2. Everyone thinks that little cats are cute. Hearing them on a cd is even better! For the funny holidays too! Here comes Santa claws even has a good title. Jingle Cats rock!

  3. Next to Handle's Messiah and A Charlie Brown Christmas the Jingle Cats are an essential part of every Christmas. By the way, if some one tells you about Guster's Carol of the Meows don't buy it! It is some guy singing meow meow meow meow to the tune of Carlo of the Bells. Lame!

    And another thing....!

No cats where harmed in the making of Meowie Christmas.

  4. After the Jingle Cats first album, Meowy Christmas, became a hit, naturally a second album was released. The first album featured only public domain Christmas songs, so they wouldn't have to pay any royalties to songwriters. Unfortunately for them, there weren't many public domain songs left for their second album, so they used mostly 20th Century Christmas songs, which would require royalty payments to the songwriters. The album, like the other Jingle Cats albums, is the brainchild of producer Mike Spalla. It supposedly features "REAL singing cats", but the melodies are in fact played on a sampler. It is somewhat amusing for a song or two, but it gets pretty tedious over the course of a whole album. I guess I have an early version of this album, because my copy has more songs than Amazon has listed. Here is the track listing on my CD:

    1. Blue Christmas
    2. White Christmas
    3. The Christmas Song
    4. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
    5. Here Comes Santa Claus
    6. Frosty the Snowman
    7. Oh Holy Night
    8. My Favorite Things
    9. I'll Be Home For Christmas
    10. Little Drummer Boy
    11. The Chipmunk Song
    12. A Bird in a Gilded Cage
    13. It Came Upon the Midnight Clear
    14. Blue Danube Waltz
    15. Hatikva
    16. Joy to the World
    17. Ave Maria
    18. The Jingle Cats Legend

  5. I got this CD for my kid, and he loves it; plays it even when it's not Christmas. It's pretty funny, and it makes our cats go crazy trying to find out where the "intruder" is that's making all the noise. Heh-heh, serves them right for jumping on my head at 4am.

2 comments about I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing/Merry Christmas from the Hillside Singers.
  1. When this first came out on LP, I was in my 20s and very much in to folk music. I just happened to buy this and played it to death. When I was depressed, the music made me feel good. The words had a message but didn't hit you over the head with it.
My LP player wore out so I started to look for the Hillside singers on tape. No luck and I felt like I had lost friends because I could no longer hear the music.
Over the years, I would search in stores and then the internet. I did find an old LP but I already had that but no way to play it.
I couple of months ago, I Googled "Hillside Singers" and nearly broke into tears when I found the LP was now a CD.
Oh happy day when the CD arrived. I am tempted to buy another as a backup.
I am much older now. I still like folk music and the Hillside singers still make me feel GOOD.
    What more can I ask!

  2. THIS CD IS WORTH EVERY CENT...BUT IF YOU LISTEN CAREFULLY THERE IS A MINOR BLIP UNDER THE FIRST WORD OF "I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING". IT'S MINOR SO BUY THIS CD ANYWAY.

    JUST GOOD MUSIC DONE WELL.

3 comments about The Very Best of Celtic Christmas.
  1. I recently purchased this CD and I am listening to it as I write this. There are quite a bit of tracks from Celtic Christmas Three so to me this CD feels more like a reissue of that CD, so if you already own that CD you may want to reconsider this purchase. The CD as a whole is what I'd expect from Winham Hill and they always seem to deliver the same high quality music. Although this CD is labeled as a Christmas CD it can be played throughout the entire year, yes, there are a few standard Christmas selections but a majority are original compositions. The only gripe I have is Patrick Cassidy's "Lament" has not been included on this CD,and is one of the most beatiful songs I've ever heard.
If your a Windham Hill fan, this CD is well worth the money.
Great for playing at Holiday get togethers for that added intamecy, or when your sitting in front of the fire on a cold winters night.....OR anytime during the year!
    Simply magnifecent!

  2. This is a nice CD, but it wasn't quite what I had expected. I'm a big fan of Celtic Woman and Enya so I thought I would enjoy this CD more than I do. It's a little different than the Celtic music I'm used to listening to. Many of the songs don't seem like holiday songs, so you could play this CD all year long and it wouldn't seem out of place.

  3. For the most part I liked this CD, but I almost wouldn't consider this a Holiday CD. The music was soothing & more like just regular Celtic music. It did have Altan & David Arkenstone on it, which is a major plus. I always like these artists.

5 comments about Hero for Today.
  1. "Hero for Today" is a wonderfully balanced collection from the US Army Band and Chorus. There was a good selection of patriotic music, both old and new. The balance within the chorus was well executed, as was the balance between the band and the chorus. Their rendition of "Hymn to the Fallen" was thoughtful, almost prayerful, with a subtle choral overtone. The "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was a fresh and full arrangement of an old favorite. "Here's to America" was an upbeat expression of faith in America, in good contrast to the reflective "A Hero For Today." "This Is My Country" was set with a majestic tone, while "God Bless America" was an upbeat expression of an old favorite. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who would like to hear both traditional and new expressions of patriotic music.

  2. Another re-hash of Altissimo! recordings here. Once again recordings have been drawn together from the US Army Band Library which means the sound quality is often un-even, and nothing is original here.

The standard US Armed Forces Medley Altissimo! just uses from one CD to the next. I don't think they ever change the band playing it! So no mention of when these recordings were made either, or who was directing the Army band when they were done. Altissimo! has not reached that level of professionalism that other labels attained long ago.

Most of the patriotic material here has been issued before by Altissimo! There is very little new material on this CD. The redundant program presented here is a common feature with most US service bands. The musicianship is first-rate: The music they play often second or third rate! These bands can do a lot more than play this kind of dribble. Of course Altissimo! thinks that only the popular stuff will sell. And so they market the same thing over and over.

The picture on the front with the US soldier in desert tans is intended to pull in the patriotic buyer today. The funny thing here is that the recordings combined here were probably in the can pre-9/11! Buyer beware!

  3. I bought the CD for my mom who LOVES "We Were There". The 3rd infantry performs a great rendition of it during their concert series every year on the Ellipse in Washington D.C. which includes soldiers wearing the uniforms of the Army as they have evolved and a very stirring speech. Since the 3rd infantry is unable to sell recordings to the public, being able to at least get the song feor my mom was a wonderful present. The other music on the CD was also wonderfully patriotic and beautifully performed.

  4. I heard the title song first at the memorial marker ceramony for Paul R. Smith, the first Medal of Honor recipient of the WOT. I went searching for a CD and to my surprise, found it as the title.

Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have found the tone quality very good. My only 'complaint' is the lack of printed lyrics.

While I'm not usually a huge fan of military music, I found the lyrics time appropriate for occassional use in my social studies classes. While we have many discussions about the US policies, many of us can use a reminder of those few that are giving up so much for the many.

  5. I listened with at least moist eyes - and often streaming tears - to this stunning collection as I enjoyed a scenic ride on Amtrak from Seattle, WA to Portland, OR. I could not help but be proud and grateful for our most honorable country and the dedication and sacrifice of the people who volunteer to protect and defend her. I bought 15 copies and gave them to my friends and family. I intend to give copies to my best clients. Needless to say, I commend A Hero for Today to all.
