5 comments about Tales From the Crypt: Have Yourself a Scary Little Christmas.
  1. Let me start off by saying that this album is NOT for everyone -- especially those who have no sense of humor about the holidays. If you find lyrics like "Stockings stuffed with ears and fingers (fa la la la la la la la la) Chopped from all those carolling singers (fa la la la la la la la la)" offensive, don't even bother.

If that tidbit made you laugh, this album is for you.

The Cryptkeeper delivers his pun-laced humor, mixed with not-horrible singing, incredibly hilarious lyrics, and that trademarked cackle that sends a chill right down my spine every time I hear it. I can't help but make this my first holiday CD each year. Who could resist that "Saint Nick Rap"?? (That reminds me... anyone know where I can reach the Dallas Cowgirls? My friend Jack wanted some special cheer.) Oh, my sides are aching just thinking about this horrifyingly humorous holiday hoot.

Again, not for everyone -- but if you're looking for an atypical holiday album with deliciously twisted lyrics... then look no further.

  2. This is my favorite Christmas cd and I drag it out every year. Don't get me wrong, I like Bing Crosby as much as the next person, but this is just fun. I love "juggle bills" because it is a great parody, and it also lets me know that it isn't just me who feels flooded by bills around the holidays. And, "Deck the halls with parts of Charlie" just needed to be done. The whole cd has an almost cute quality about it but it is just good plain fun. I will pass this on to my own kids some day as Bing was passed to me.

  3. Well, boils and ghouls, it's Christmas in July! Light the candles and bake the Tollhouse cookies, for the Cryptkeeper (John Kassir) is coming to your doorstep! The 1994 album "Have Yourself a Scary Little Christmas" is chockfull of chestnuts, holly, mistletoe, roasted venison, blood & guts, amputated limbs, exploding missles, decaying zombies and, best of all, your delightful Host with the Most. Graciously supported by the spectacular orchestrations of the Salvation Army, CK croons, cackles and belts out 11 unique carols generously laced with wicked wits and putrid puns. What other album features St. Nick filing for bankruptcy (Juggle Bills), a salute to horror movie icons (Christmas Rap) or a New Year's eve party attended by deceased celebrities? (Should Old Cadavers Be Forgot) Or how about a Douglas Fir tree decorated with spleens and kidneys (Deck the Halls) or a mortician who embalms a family a LITTLE too early? (Moe Teitlebaum) But that's not all, folks. As a bonus, the CD's booklet contains a brilliantly colored reprint of "And All Through the House," a horridly classic tale from the 1952 "Vault of Horror" comic book (and eventually a favorite Tales from the Crypt episode). Last but not least, kiddies, this recording includes the most shocking incident of all, something only the Cryptkeeper would have the audacity to do: HE TAUNTS SANTA CLAUS!! YOU'LL LAUGH! YOU'LL SCREAM! YOU'LL BE CHILLED TO THE BONE! GUARANTEED FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! :D

  4. This Christmas CD features The Crypt Keeper(John Kassir) singing parodies of Christmas songs. The songs are done with the same type of "ghoulish" puns that were used on the TV show. If you enjoyed the Crypt Keeper's sense of humor on his TV show, you should enjoy this CD.

  5. i have loved this cd since i got it in highschool. its halarious.

  1. This has got to be one of the best Christmas cd's to come out since Kelly Price's One Family. Faith Evans doesn't give you traditional, boring Christmas music that you can find anywhere, but she gives you her spin, the way she'd want it done. Stand Out Tracks Like Merry Christmas Baby, O Coem All Ye Faithful, This Christmas and the Original tune, Happy Holiday are the reason why, even in 2005 almost 2006 Faith Evans rich and soulful voice can't be touched. I definitely recommend this album along with her 4 previous LP's.

  2. I love this album. Faith took a lot of OLD classics that most R&B artists won't touch and I think that is great. Her version of 'This Christmas' was done very well, but my favorite is 'The Day That Love Began'. I think it's such a pretty song and it's worth buying the album.

  3. I've always been a Faith Evans fan and was thrilled that she released a Christmas album. I'm glad she had a mix of newer songs and older carols. Her voice is in top form and the material on here is great! The styles range from traditional to jazz to r&b to old-school soul. My favorites have to be "O Come All Ye Faithful', "Christmas Song" and "Soulful Christmas." Replying to your Christmas greeting at the end of the record... Merry Christmas to you, too Faith!

  4. faith sounds great.............her voice is a gift from god.every song is great........any faith fan should have it.

  5. Didn't know Faith had it in her. This holiday album is wonderful. I purchased it not really knowing what to expect and I was very satified with it.

  1. This is a MAGNIFICENT piece to add to your gospel Christmas music collection. Norman Hutchins' rendition of the title song is MOST EXCELLENT! Also very enjoyable are the very spirited versions of Go Tell It on the Mountain (led by Chester Baldwin), Joy to the World and He Has Come on this album. What more can I say? This a great album with a sampler at the end in case you'd like to hear similar gospel artists. A must have for any true collector of Christian Christmas music.

  2. This album is one of my favorites of all my gospel cds (over 100). I've never heard "Silent Night" as beautiful and moving as this rendition. Emmanuel (not just a Christmas song), Joy to the World, and In Excelsis Deo (this song seems to be missing from Amazon's track list) are my favorites, but the entire album is great. I highly recommend this album.

  1. This is my favorite Christmas CD of all time (and I have way too many!). Put the kids to bed, put on this CD and trim the tree in the dark with only tiny white lights twinkling. The music is powerful enough that that sense of calm can be recreated during the madness of Christmas by playing the CD any time during the Christmas rush.

Mike Marshall is incredibly talented and Midnight Clear showcases some wonderful musicianship. I bought a dozen copies of this last year as gifts...

  2. Recorded at the behest of (hammered dulcimerist)Tony Elman, this disc quickly has become one of my favorite Christmas recordings. From the opening track when Marshall comes out of the rain and into the studio, this gem displays Mike's customarily stellar guitar expertise as he utilizes these classics to share the joy of cool, wet December evenings by the San Francisco Bay.

  1. "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is a very heartwarming and traditional Christmas album from Pat Boone. I like the selection of songs and Pat Boone's voice is so heavenly and beautifully sincere. I really like Pat Boone's rendition of the "First Noel" because you can truly feel his heart behind the melody and the delivery of the words. It is so joyous.

  2. Pat Boone's voice is very soothing and he did a very fabulous job on singing the christmas carols. I have the cassette tape of this x'mas songs a long, long time ago (in the late 70's and early 80's) but it's already worn-out. I kept on looking to different stores like Best Buy and Circuit City to purchase this aforesaid album in CD form but to no avail. Good thing, amazon.com came to the rescue! I can now enjoy the heartwarming x'mas songs sung by Pat Boone that I usually love to hear when I was a child. If you love Pat Boone's Songs for Christmas, I highly recommend Season's Greetings from Perry Como CD which is an equally good combination for your nostalgic Christmas CD collection.

5 comments about A Winter's Night: Best of Christmas.
  1. I really enjoy listening to this album. Its a nice change from the traditional Christms music (eg. Bing Crosby), with a good selection of artists. The BNL and Sarah McLachlan song is excellent, but so is most of the album.
The iTunes version has 19 songs - not sure why the difference.

Buy this and the new Diana Krall christmas CD.

  2. For those of you who have been faithfully collecting the Nettwerk Christmas compilations (Christmas Songs, Maybe This Christmas, Maybe This Christmas Too, Maybe This Christmas Tree), you already have most, if not all, of these songs. That doesn't change the fact that it is an excellent Best of, it's just a shame it isn't otherwise noted as such. These are still some great alternatives to the holiday music you get inundated with every time you leave your house from November through mid-January, and if you don't already own the original compilations, this is a great place to start.

  3. This was a good addition to my Christmas collection and I have listened to it many times in the short time I have had it. There are some more cheerful songs but I would say overall it seem to me to be more of an emo Christmas collection. There are several songs that speak to unhappy or emotional experiences at this time of year. If you like unconventional Christmas music you should enjoy this album.

  4. I ordered this cd based on what I heard on Itunes, and for some reason many of the best tracks included there are not actually on this cd. I was very disappointed by the lack of tracks: it really detracted from the overall album. Songs like The Weepies' "All That I Want" would have made the album a little more heartfelt and fun. The cd is not without its merits though: Dido's track is beautiful, and the Barenaked Ladies are always entertaining .

  5. The music is good, but I guess I'm confused by this collection. Even the "big" CD choice of the 2 Winter's nights CD's here don't have everything on the iTunes selection, which is annoying. But, what you hear is great and a nice variety. "God Rest Ye...." is probably my favorite track and the reason I bought the album.

  1. This is one a series of "budget" releases covering various aspects of Christmas to be released over the years by Rhino/Wea in conjunction with Billboard, all with 10-tracks each and liner notes in the form of track-by-track comments. Sound quality is generally good to excellent. All have "Billboard" as part of the title.

Some others are: Family Christmas Classics; R&B Christmas Hits; Rock & Roll Christmas; Greatest Christmas Hits (1935-1954); and Greatest Christmas Hits (1955-Present). Some of the foregoing are also offered in 4-pack and 5-pack editions.

This one gives you many of the "traditional" Christmas religious hymns done by some of the most renowned artists/groups/orchestras ever. Sure to be played every Christmas season.

  1. This is a complete departure from the classic Boots Randolph sound and playing style! This is Christmas jazz played by the best! I mean, Boots is joined here by Hollywood TV recording elete! Notwithstanding the fact that Boots is the greatest sax player that's ever been! This album is just a terrific FUN departure! You just have GOT to get this CD to understand what I mean herein! Such wonderful completely new ways of visiting our Christmas holiday musical classics!

  3. I just want to alert others that this is not "easy listening." Jazzy, yes, but also a little grating if you're expecting the smooth, golden tones that Boots can produce. It arrived with a different CD cover than is pictured here--again, jazzier. It is recorded with the Tommy Newsom Jazztet.

  4. I had forgotten how much I missed this guy. He was mighty in the 60's. Enjoy his uptempo and man, could he play that sax.

  1. I picked this CD up because it was a compilation of some of the most beautiful pieces of music sung by the world's greatest tenors. The CD has 4 different versions of "Ave Maria" alone, and is finished by Mario Lanza singing "The Lord's Prayer." This CD is a must-have for anyone who loves "soulful" singing by great voices.

    I highly recommend this CD.

  2. The sound quality is worse than an old, scratched vinyl record. Music is boring and old. Extremely disappointing.
