5 comments about A Christmas Reunion.
- Thank you Tony Orlando and Dawn( Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent) for creating this Christmas Reunion CD. They sound terrific and the music is so beautiful. Merry Christmas!
- Tony Orlando and Dawn have always had a magic to their music. This Cd tops them all, getting back to their true roots - soul, r and b and even a light jazz sound. I think all of their voices shine in this cd. Although I am a Tony Orlando and Dawn fan, my husband is not. After hearing this cd, my husband is telling people they should buy this cd. He is so impressed with it!!I think that pretty much tells it all. LOL My personel favorites are Light of the Stable, mary Did you Know, Welcome to Our World, and Saviors Day. Tony's voice really shines even more than usual in Mary Did you Know. And the girls are even more awesome than usual on Welcome to Our World. The neat thing about this cd is, it will keep selling year after year!!

- Many folks, especially babyboomers such as myself, best remember Tony Orlando and Dawn from their string of early-70's hits such as "Candida," "Knock Three Times," and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree," and for their variety show which aired from 1973 to 1977. Now, after a hiatus of 28 years, the three group members, Tony Orlando, Joyce Vincent and Telma Hopkins, have again joined forces in the recording studio to put together a wonderful new collection of holiday tunes, their first. Tony Orlando and Dawn's 'A Christmas Reunion' features tracks sung by all three, either separately or together, as on the first track, the lovely Christmas classic "The Christmas Song" (aka "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire").
Tony Orlando and Dawn's 'A Christmas Reunion' is a mix of both old and new, but don't look for Rudolph or Frosty here. Instead, settle back with your cup of eggnog, put your feet up, and prepare yourself to be treated to a CD that clearly acknowledges the Reason for the Season - as with "Mary's Boy Child," brilliantly executed by Tony Orlando with an African-influenced arrangement; "Ave Maria/O Holy Night," featuring lead vocal by Joyce Vincent and Tony Orlando, respectively; and the haunting and thought-provoking "Mary Did You Know." The more secular offerings are enjoyable to listen to as well, and perhaps to sing along with, thanks to the included lyric sheet - Ray Parker, Jr.'s "Christmas Time is Here," with lead vocal by Telma Hopkins; the jazzy "Christmas in New York," composed by legendary New York songwriters Jack Keller and Bob Feldman; and my personal favorite, the bluesy "I Lose It When I Hear White Christmas," penned by Toni Wine and Artie Wayne, another pair of talented New York scribes; this Wine/Wayne collaboration is a sure-fire Christmas classic in the making. (By the way, that's Toni's voice you hear singing "I'm gonna make your life so sweet" on The Archies' 1969 megahit "Sugar, Sugar," and about a year after "Sugar" had its run on the charts, Toni co-wrote a little ditty called "Candida," which was recorded by a session singer named Tony Orlando and released under the name of Dawn and ... well, you probably know the rest.)
All in all, this 14-track holiday offering is a delight, and 'A Christmas Reunion' by Tony, Telma and Joyce really brings forth the spirit of Christmas. Highly recommended!
- We hadn't even thought about Tony Orlando and Dawn for... how long? Imagine our surprise when driving around looking at Christmas lights we hear this great Christmas song on the radio. As we wait in suspense hoping the announcer will say who it was, he does. Tony Orlando and Dawn? You've GOT to be kidding! When was this from? We search it out on the computer and find a copy (really cheap) from an Amazon seller, who gets it to us right before Christmas. Who knew that TO&D had reunited recently to do this album? Why doesn't it get more airplay? Why weren't we told! It is a beautiful album, filled with meaningful, spiritual Christmas songs. These songs are beautifuly written and arranged. It goes back to the real Reason for the Season. All three artists have solo songs, and every one is a gem. This will be a Christmas tradition from now on.
- I received this CD last Thursday and I wasn't disappointed at all. Tony Orlando and Dawn (the lovely, and profoundly sexy Telma Hopkins and her singing partner Joyce Vincent) truly have proven that time truly is of the essence and they have gotten better with time. They haven't lost it one bit, and this Christmas reunion CD is proof of how their vocals add to the joys and delight of any and every mood and season, especially Christmas.

5 comments about David Grisman's Acoustic Christmas.
- This album is a true Grisman classic. Who else could put together such a distinct Christmas album? WHAT CHILD IS THIS is done in the old english style with mandolin accompanied by a band of minstrels playing recorders. SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN is done bluegrass style with virtuoso Bela Fleck on banjo. Respighi's ANCIENT AIRES AND DANCES is a beautiful rendering of this classical composition done with mandonlin, mandola, and mandocello. THE CHRISTMAS SONG is a soft, jazzy, acoustic version of Mel Torme's classic. GOD REST YE MERRY GENTLEMEN is done as an acoustic jazz tune in 6/8 time. WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS offers a touch of comic relief with Grisman's mandolin accompanying a Donald Duck impersonator. WHITE CHRISTMAS presents jazz guitar virtuoso Martin Taylor and John Stafford on tenor sax. THE FLOWER CAROL is another old english style number done with an accompanying hurdy-gurdy, crumhorns, and recorders. WINTER WONDERLAND is done in a swing style reminiscent of the Hot Club Quintet with Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. SILENT NIGHT is done in a bossa nova (?) style with accompnying vocal percussion and vocal trumpet. AULD LANG SYNE also presents Bela Fleck on banjo with a slower beginning tempo which kicks into bluegrass overdrive upon the key modulation.
With former DGQ members Darol Anger, Mike Marshall, and Rob Wasserman providing the rhythm section this album reflects what I believe to have been the glory days of the Grisman legacy. Displaying Grisman's unique musical diversity, ingenius arrangements, and mandolin virtuosity with this all-star lineup, ACOUSTIC CHRISTMAS is a Christmas album in a class of its own. It actually makes a musical statement apart from the context of it being a holiday album. This is a must buy for fans of Grisman, jazz, bluegrass, or Christmas music in general.
- What a truly wonderful recording! Like a breath of fresh air... or that feeling you get right after a big, heavy sigh. So pleasant and relaxing that you can just put the CD player on repeat and smile all day. This instantly became one of my favorite CDs - not just for Christmas music, but in general!
- Just so all you Dawg Fans know, David has revealed that it is the voice of Clarence Nash, the original voice of Donald Duck, singing on "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". It seems Mr. Nash was also a mandolin player and entertainer in vaudeville, and one day David, who is a vintage cartoon art fan, spotted a picture of Nash holding a Gibson mandolin. David's wife, a journalist tracked Nash down, and soon the two met. Here's an account by Grisman of what happened next:
"About a year later, while finishing my Christmas album, I had one of those rare flashes of vision, and imagined an arrangement of the perennial favorite, "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," featuring Clarence on vocal and myself on mandolin. Fortunately, "Ducky" liked the idea, and thanks to the kind permission of the Disney studios, Clarence and I met in a recording studio two hours before the record was to be mastered, and recorded our little arrangement. The only catch was that the Disney executives insisted Clarence not be credited on the album. Therefore, no one realized that it was the real Donald Duck doing the singing. In fact, a lot of folks thought it was me! Sadly, Mr. Nash passed away a couple of years later, and so now I'd like you all to know that it was, in fact, Donald Duck himself on the Acoustic Christmas album."
Cool, huh?
- Each cut on this album is a gem unto itself. The arrangements are diverse, each individually tailored to the piece at hand, and the music covers a wide range from Renaissance carols to 20th century tunes like "Winter Wonderland". The instruments themselves range from bagpipes to acoustic strings to "vocalized" trumpets (on "Silent Night") and the original singing Donald Duck (on "We Wish You a Merry Christmas"). Beauty and humor both abound. I'm listening to this album as I write this review, and it's been a staple of my holiday celebrations for over 10 years. Read the other reviews for more specifics on the musicians, but all you need to know, really, is that they're all supurb. Like all of the Grisman Quintet's albums, this one radiates the pure joy of making great music. This is one holiday purchase you won't regret -- ever.
- You have probably heard the plucky Winter Wonderland playing in the mall and wondered where it came from- well now you know. But there is MUCH more here, including a White Christmas as smooth and sultry (with a raspy tenor) as melted butter floating on cream. Ditto for the guitar solo in The Christmas Song. And an edgy jazz God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Throw that Kenny G on the flaming yule log and GET THIS! (in fact, get two in case you lose one!)

3 comments about Saint-Saëns: Oratorio de Noël, Op. 12; Messe, Op. 4 [Hybrid SACD].
- Why is this not a wildly popular work of music? The question arises often when the work is by Saint-Saëns, whose best known works are the 3rd Symphony and Carnaval des Animaux. For much of his career, his metier was composing opera, such as Samson & Delilah, although towards the end of his very long life he composed masses and other forms of sacred music. There is no question he took the sacredness very seriously, and yet his masses are far from stilted or formal; they have a deeply moving drama and melodiousness that make them immediately appealing to listeners.
I am not going to discuss the Oratorio as a work of *Christmas* music since I don't think it has anything in common with other such works, like Händel's Messiah or Bach's Magnificat, and I expect readers tired of the same selections from the Messiah (over and over and over...) to dread something that is cloyingly seasonal. Rather, the point about this music is that it is genuinely sweet while being genuinely dignified, continuously. The 7th movement, a trio sung by the mezzo soprano, soprano, and tenor, is so tender and wistful it stands alone in choral music as a sentient work; the three voices hover among the chords of a harp as if souls in Paradise. The 1st and tenth movements are evocative of Fauré's Requiem, but they're very distinctively Saint-Saëns' and there's no denying the latter's peculiar love of dramatic dialogue in an Oratorio.
Finally, a word on the performance: it's been my good fortune to have never heard a bad performance of this. I've heard two, and I love both. This recording includes the Mass op.4; the other (Diethard Hellmann's) does not. The Mass includes some really splendid organ playing by Jörg-Hannes Hahn and is admirable, but of course is eclipsed by the swoon-inducing Oratorio. It is definitely a pleasing and impressive performance, and totally faithful to the most admirable qualities of the composer's musical spirit.
- An uplifting and lovely adaptation of the Christmas Oratorio. While the choir is especially good, and soloists are above average, my favorite is the orchestra. Enjoy anytime, but of course, especially during Advent.
- Given the dearth of recordings of this Christmas gem by one of the great French Romantic composers, it's a good thing - on balance - that this performance has been recorded and made available. I'm going to try another one though, since, in my opinion, the potential of the score can be more fully and satisfyingly realized. To my ears, the tempi and intensities of several of the movements are on the soporific side; and the balance among the soloists - as well as the pitch accuracy of the tenor - could be better.

5 comments about December.
- "At no other time of the year is there a wider array of emotions than the month of December. As I considered material and arrangements for this recording I wanted to assure myself that in each instance the songs reach out to the joys and reflections of the season. I wish you all the best in all your Decembers." ~ Chris Botti ~
December. We're on the last month of the year. It's the time of the year again when people tend to become busier than ever. Time flies so quickly. Where did January thru November go? But anyway, December is truly without a doubt my favorite month of the year. To me, it brings so many cherished, fond and warm family memories to have and to hold year after year.
It was such a pleasure to be with my friends at Chris Botti's live concert last night at the Wilshire Theatre with his special guests. It was a terrific and enjoyable concert. A dream concert! To any fan, the ultimate and best thing is watching him perform live and see and hear before your very own eyes and ears how exquisitely he played his favorite instrument and interpreted some of the hauntingly beautiful classics of all-time.
This outstanding CD is one of my absolute favorite Christmas CDs from my collection. You'll enjoy listening to thirteen Christmas classics of all-time with arrangements by the artist himself and Billy Childs. You'll be delighted with the fabulous, breathtaking and sublime interpretations of "The Christmas Song," "O Little Town of Bethlemen," "Silent Night," "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "Hark The Herald Angels Sing," a twosome with Hector Pereira on guitar (wow, trumpet and guitar - what a perfect combination!). And of course my very favorite from this collection of wonderful Christmas carols, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" showcasing Mr. Botti's smooth and mellow vocals.
"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"
~ Words and Music by Hugh Martin & Ralph Blane ~
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Thru the years we all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bow
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
May this Christmas Season bring more joy, peace and blessings to one and all. Have the happiest Holidays ever!
- December is...the beginning of a beautiful season and a time to reflect on all the things that are good about life. It's also a CD composed of thirteen songs of the season performed by Chris Botti, one of the preeminent trumpeters in contemporary jazz today. Whether you have a collection of Christmas music or none, this CD is not to be missed.
December is...a time when snow can and does fall in places where it's cold enough for it to actually land on the ground and accumulate so as to be fun and a hazard at the same time. And...it's not just music for fans of Chris Botti; rather it's a CD that anyone can put in the player and relax to as you listen and absorb familiar tunes such as Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let it Snow. Even if you live in the tropics and never see snow, you can close your eyes and picture Chris's brilliant tone ascending to the heavens and coaxing down the flakes. Let It Snow is a beautiful arrangement for a classic jazz quintet with Billy Childs on piano, CJ Vanston on synthesizer, David Carpenter on bass while Peter Erskine applies the brushes to snare drum and cymbals. The Little Drummer Boy is a playful rendering featuring Brandon Fields on tenor sax joining Chris with Vinnie Colaiuta taking over on drums; this is a great tune to light your fire on a cold night.
December...contains a hypnotic chill out song that's oh so mellow called Hallelujah, the fourth tune on the CD. It's performed by a trio of Botti on muted trumpet accompanied by Shane Fontayne on guitars and on bass is Jon Ossman of Chris's band; this song has the power to move you.
There is so much to like about this collection. I'll Be Home For Christmas is just the sort of arrangement that will remove the stress of too much hustle and bustle and replace it with joy; put this song on repeat and let Chris's muted trumpet evoke in you an emotion that'll get you going for the rest of the year.
Have fun, enjoy life and December.
- This is such a beautiful compilation of Christmas classics that is sure to become a favorite in anyone's collection. I love this album for slowing down and remembering the magic of the holiday season, for background music during our holiday feast or a cocktail party with friends and for cuddling up with my honey for the evening. The music is soulful, moving, even sultry. I was especially enjoyed Botti's rendition of Hallelujah. Relax and enjoy "December."
- This album is a wonderful Christmas album. His trumpet is so mellow it makes you swoon. If you love this album you'll love all his others.
- If you appreciate Chris Botti, you'll love listening to him playing Christmas music.
This album in particular is not my favorite of his. The beginning tracks I think are the highlights of the album. Nice to hear him playing some more upbeat jazz on this one. This should put some of his nay sayers to rest about him being overrated.
Just close your eyes and appreciate the smooth sounds of Mr. Botti.

2 comments about The Ultimate Sacred Christmas Album ~ Ave Maria.
- When I read what is on this CD and who performs it, I can not wait to order. Now only 4 stars, but I am sure that the 5th will be given after I heard this album. Kobus Kortmann
- This CD is eloquent and so magnetically alluring. It begins with the ever so popular (sopranist) Ms. Leontyne Price's "Ave Maria" and finishes beautifully with the entire operatic voices of the English Choir in the song "Amen". I'm always floored by the voices of Ms. Leontyne Price and Mr. Jose Carrera. The instrumentalists and the great composing of many of the fine songs listed on this CD is superb; well job done by the conductors, very.

2 comments about Party Tyme Karaoke: Christmas Party Pack.
- I purchased this for a Christmas carol sing-a-long party at a local charity. Even though the music is a little cheesy, after all it is karaoke, the kids (ages 3-12) had a good time singing old favorites like Frosty, Rudolph and of course Jingle Bells.
The 4 CD was worth it for a party that was about 3 hours long. I would recommend using this particular set with a karaoke machine so the lyrics to the music could be visible to the singer or audience.
- I found this product to be very helpful during the Christmas season. I like the fact that the product had the songs with and without the vocal guides; however, a few of the songs had the back-up singers singing the whole entire song on both of the tracks of the same song.

2 comments about Christmas On The Mountain.
- We found this CD in a tiny little shop nestled, fittingly enough, in the mountains of Ligonier, Pennsylvania. It is the most delightful holiday music I have ever heard - I love it so much that I'm still listening to it in April! The music ranges from jubilant to contemplative, and it's so well-performed and arranged. It will make you dance and sing. I didn't even know I liked bluegrass music until I heard this - truly unique and adds so much to the Christmas season.
- Pleasant, though routine, arrangements of favorite Christmas carols. Expertly played, though mainly nice background music. Similar to "Country Mountain Chirstmas," but with different tunes, of course.

5 comments about Halloween II.
- I always wanted the whole collection of halloween and ordering it from amazon was a great, recieved all of the movies really quick.
- Halloween II starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence picks up right where the original left off. This seuqel is a complete letdown, the actors look bored and robotic and the twist ending just about killed it for me. Stick to the original and leave this one to rot!
- I love HALLOWEEN II! I love how it takes place right after the original ended! Michael has been shot six times by Dr. Loomis, but he gets up and walks away! Loomis continues his hunt and Laurie Strode is taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. Michael stalks the hospital in search for Laurie. Loomis finds out something about Michael that he NEVER knew. I love the showdown at the ending with Michael, Loomis, and Laurie. HALLOWEEN II is a treat for any and all fans of HALLOWEEN, horror, and slashers!
- The horror continues and it should have ended the series after this one.
Buy you know Hollywood????????
Any chance to milk a franchise to death and they'll do it.
Is this as good as the first? No.
It's a good continuation of the first one.
The classic cast is back and the story is great.
However........... H2 starts to go in a more typical horror direction with this one and every one after it.
Less intense thriller than the first and more of a typical Hollywood bloodbath.
The intensity is lost among the increasing body count.
More blood, more gore, less brilliance.
They messed with the music too, not as scary, not as effective.
Still, a must see for fans of the original and the last decent one in the series until Halloween H20.
- What makes Hallowen II a good a slasher sequel is that director Rick Rosenthal had a lot of help from the films writers Debra Hill and John Carptener. The hosptial setting gives the film a dark atmopshere and although the film isn't as scary it's fun.
