  1. This CD is like totally AWESOME! You should buy this, it's great!- Buy this! It's appropriate, happy, and fun!

  2. I think that this cd is soooo GREAT!! after listening to a few songs, your heart will be filled with joy and the christmas spirit. I especially liked the song " Christmas don't be late". It was funny in the beginning and the middle when the man was talking to Alvin and Alvin wasn't paying attention and the man had to scream his name to get Alvin's attention. hehe haha. :-D
IF YOU ARE WONDERING IF YOU WANT TO GET THIS CD. YES!!DO. ITS THE BEST!!!!it is soooo christmasy

  3. this cd is sooooooo great. i mean it brings joy and happiness to all the people who listen to it. they also sing so cute. alsmost all of the songs i know so its easy to sing along
if you are sondering if you want to get this cd. well the answer is YES!!!OF COURSE!!ITS GREAT!!why not. it bring joy, happiness, smiles, christmas to everyone that hears it in your house!!GO FOR IT!!!
    -a child

  4. Why you ask? I could barely hear the chipmunks over the music! I had to crank the volume up WAY loud and I could still barely hear the chipmunks over the music. I have listned to another Chipmunks Christmas album and had no problem hearing them at all. But this one was bad. Sad as I love the chipmunks even though I am an adult!

  5. Please note to get instead the new great sounding Capitol 2007 release which has all 24 songs (includes both Volumes 1 & 2) plus one bonus and is very reasonably priced. The 2006 version has a recording flaw. This is a classic Christmas album that should be FULLY enjoyed and the 2007 is the best version out there!

  1. If you are a Beatles fan then this is the Christmas album for you. The Fab Four are a Beatles Tribute Band, and they make an excellent job of the singing. Most of the tracks on this second album continue in the way of their first, and use material from the later Beatles period. What's really clever is the way you start off listening to a familiar Beatles into, and instead of the lyrics you are used to, a Christmas carol or song emerges. The time they must have taken to get this right, and at one point I really thought they had stolen the Beatles backing tracks, but no they play them all themselves.

  2. clever, thoughtful fun for the holidays. a must have for any fan of the beatles. worth at least three times more than what you will pay for it here.

  3. This album is very cleverly done. If you are a Beatles fan you will appreciate how good the instrumentation is and how clever some of the touches are.

  4. Awesome for Beatle fans. Very very interesting and clever way of making your favorite Beatle tunes Christmas songs.

  5. Chistmas tunes set to the music of classic Beatles songs.
    The novelity wears off quickly.

  1. This is great ambient music for holiday gatherings and for playing in your car. I appreciate the blend of styles used in this work as well as hearing the more "nontraditional" songs. I was least enamored with their rendition of "Angels We Have Heard on High." Perhaps I have too much of the traditional rendering of this song in my head to appreciate what was attempted here. It felt choppy and disjointed. However, the exquisite oboe on other songs more than made up for this initial disappointment. "O Little One" "Walking in the Air" and "Masters in This Hall/March of the Three Kings" conveys the "comfort and joy" of the album title as well as the sentiments of the Season. I won't soon tire of this gem!

  1. This is my favorite of Kurt's four Christmas CDs. It sounds as if he is in my front room playing for me personally. Highly recommended listening!

  2. In his only solo piano release, Bestor brings to "One Silent Night," the wonderful emotion and engaging arrangements that he has always incorporated in his more orchestrated albums. Never too intellectual, yet anything but ordinary, this CD will let you relax, and, if you wish, take a very interesting musical journey through some tried and true holiday classics. It's a refreshing change from the often over-produced holiday fair that so often adorns the musical shelves this season.

  1. Louis Armstrong was definitely a one-and-only. This CD shows off his skills as both a musician and an entertainer, provided you get the right CD. If the first track on your CD is not "Cool Yule", then you got ripped off! Return it and go get the right one because you'll also be missing "White Christmas", "Winter Wonderland", and "Christmas Night In Harlem". For some reason, even the "right one" throws in some non-Christmas songs to fill up the CD... I guess that is what you get for a budget price.
"Gone Fishin'" isn't even a Winter time song, but it features Bing Crosby who just sounds Christmas-y.
"Joseph 'N' his Brudders" is based on the Bible, so close enough.
"What A Wonderful World", well, everybody loves that song, don't they?

Along with "Cool Yule", some of the other stand-out Christmas tracks include "'Zat You Santa Claus?" and Satchmo's unique reading of "Twas the Night Before Christmas". It's hard to describe his duet (with Velma Middleton) on "Baby It's Cold Outside". He either couldn't remember his part of the lyrics, or just felt like making up some new ones. Either way, it's pretty funny.
While it's not perfect, it's arguable the best Christmas CD you'll get for this price. Just make sure you get the right one!

  2. Laser Light's usual crappy quality. Bad selection of songs, horrible sound quality and no liner notes. Stay away from this and anything with the Laser Light label.

  3. Louis Armstrong can put a smile to anyone's face, and this CD is no exception. What happened to that New Orleans jazz style? It seems that it can make everyone happy, but it seems to be extinct in today's world. Quite a shame. However, we do have the recordings of all the greats of yesteryear. This CD is a wonderful album to listen to before Christmas. For anyone who gets into the mood quite early along with all the department stores, it is perfect. You could listen to this CD before Thanksgiving because it isn't solely Christmas songs. It also includes semi-Christmas songs like "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Velma Middleton and non-Christmas songs like "Hello Dolly" and "Blue Moon."

It is exciting to hear Louie banter with the audience and with guests on the CD; it shows that he was able to make people smile outside of his music as well.

  4. Satchmo's recitation of "The Night Before Christmas" establishes this CD as a certifiable gem! Absolutely superb. Indeed.

  5. This CD includes some non-xmas music, but all selections are great. No one can recite 'Twas the night before xmas' like Louis did!

  1. You've got to hear this song tract from this CD. It has been playing in my head all day. The lyrics are great. The melody is smooth yet powerful. I find myself becoming more intimate with Mary and Joseph the parents of Jesus - all because of this song. The other songs are pretty good, too, but THIS song is a must listen to. You'll be refreshed and encouraged when you do.

  2. We've had this CD for years and years, yet it's the first one we bring out at Christmas. "One Quiet Moment" is an amazing song, and the harmonies in "O Come Emmanuel" will have you putting the song on repeat. This CD is high quality and I recommend it 100% to anyone who is looking for Christmas music that is both peaceful and exciting at the same time. It's magical.

  3. I don't usually listen to Christian music, but I love this CD at the holidays. Most of the songs have a little "twist" on the traditional harmonies. You really want to sing along with the songs. It's an uplifting and inspring holiday CD! My favorite song is "One Quiet Moment."

  4. Glad, for those unitiated, is a Christian vocal quintet that does acappella projects every so often and chose to do one for the holidays.

The good: Focused squarely on religious material so if you want a Frosty and Santa-less Christmas, there you go. It's also nice that they have some unusual choices..only a third of this disc is the same old same old (Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Joy to the World, and O Come, All Ye Faithful..).

The original tune "One Quiet Moment" is the highlight of the disc for me. It views the Nativity through the eyes of Mary and Joseph..Joseph realizing that this would never be "his" child..Mary glad that Joseph had chosen to stay by her side anyway...and both of them realizing that Jesus' mission would have lifelong complications for them ("Their friends would grow distant and shun them as strange"). The arrangement isn't especially original, but that's not why I like this. The lyric truly inspires me to view the Saviour's birth with new eyes.

Other nice ones include the take on "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and the inclusion of the Negro spiritual "Rise Up, Shepherd, and Follow" was unexpected but welcome.

The bad: "Glory to God"...entirely too repetitive. Sadly, it's written by Bob Kauflin (who also wrote "One Quiet Moment"..)..perhaps he ran out of inspiration? Ed Nalle's voice floats ethereally over the other four..but the continual "Glory to God" just gets boring...In general, maybe they treated the songs too "reverently"...I believe it's possible to innovate the arrangements more and "have fun" without POKING fun. I realize they probably wanted to appeal to traditional audiences here, but I think they could have incorporated elements of jazz, swing, or doo-wop for instance to breathe new life into some of the old chestnuts.

Summary: This won't knock your socks off cut for cut, but it's worth getting to have some great not-overused material like "Rise Up,Shepherd, and Follow" and "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" as well as the wonderful original "One Quiet Moment".
    3 1/2 stars....

  5. Of all the Christmas music in my library, this is by far my favorite. Glad's arrangements of the classics are beautiful. Their voices are truly Angelic! The ability of this group to sing in full, melodic voices is amazing. They are very gifted with a beautiful and soul stirring sound.

  1. Our children listen to the classic CD over and over during the holidays, and it never seems to get old. It has a nice blend of traditional children's songs and new Raffi christmas songs. This is a great CD.

I grew up with Raffi, and this CD brings backs pleasant memories of the holidays.

This CD is available at Amazon.com in a new REMASTERED version.

I highly Raffi's Christmas album or almost any other CD by Raffi. Raffi is the most important children's musician in modern history.

  2. This is a good cd. It has some traditional christmas music, and a few cute little songs but stays with the reasonable realm. It is typical of Raffi's style and the kids love it.

  3. This is one of the best Christmas albums of all time by anyone. Adults can enjoy it just as much as children. It is a pleasant, engaging, simple album of Christmas songs, well sung, well played, without the excesses and unlistenable portions which mar almost every album of Christmas music by other artists. It is a masterpiece of holiday music, timeless, for the ages.

  4. I enjoy this CD so much, it's become a holiday tradition in my family to play it during the christmas season. One occasion is when we do all of our Christmas baking singing along while baking cookies with my mother and sister. Or on Christmas morning while opening up presents. The CD has been at our Christmas celebrations since we were children and i can't imagine going without it when i have children of my own.

  5. Raffi has a calming, melodic voice and is one of the few children's entertainers who also appeals to adults. All of his albums are well balanced so that there are upbeat moments and times when the kiddies need to calm down.

5 comments about Morningtown Ride to Christmas.
  1. The Seekers recorded this Christmas album in June 2001, but the songs sound exactly as you would expect a Seekers Christmas album to sound. There have been a few changes of line-up down the years (even including a different lady also called Judith), but the line-up here includes at least three of the original members - Judith Durham, Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley. The fourth member is Athol Guy - I confess I can't remember whether he was the original fourth member or not.

Morningtown ride (to Christmas) is - as you would expect - an adaptation of one of their big hits of the sixties, but they haven't changed it much.

Once in Royal David's city is a lovely carol, which is very popular in Britain (and maybe Australia). The Seekers do it as a duet.

There are no lights on our Christmas tree (written in 1962) is not a song I remembere hearing before, and a song search fails to reveal another version. It's an amusing song about father and son wanting different things from Christmas, on which one of the men sing lead.

The remaining songs are mostly Christmas standards, with Judith as lead singer, sounding as good as ever.

This is essential for Seekers fans.

  2. Oh...what a masterpiece!! The Seekers have lost none of the 60s magic. They are so inspirational and exciting. Every track is just gorgeous!! My favorite is "When a Child Is Born".....just perfect. But so are all the other songs. Please...please...order this CD. You won't be disappointed!! It will make your holiday a lot brighter!!

  3. This is probably the best CD of Christmas music that I've ever heard - a genuine masterpiece.

  4. I was watching a documentary about Folk music in 1965/1966,and while the Seekers did not appear on it,there was alot of songs that they did cover on it.Their origins are Folk.I have a CD which was their first release in England back in 1965,which has Folk and Gospel music,so its no surprize that they have done a Christmas CD.But its about 30 years overdue i think.Although Judith did do one in 1968.I think some people might get confused by the cover because they used pictures of them from the 60's.Make no mistake this was recorded in 2001.
Now the atmosphere of this recording is cheerful, from the very first song Morningtown Ride TO Christmas. They have altered the words a bit to give it the Xmas feel. There is a good selection of songs here. All the Christmas favorites are here like Jingle Bells,Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,Silent Night,Away In A Manger,The Little Drummer Boy,O Come All Ye Faithful and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. As well as a stack of others.15 songs on this CD in total. One of my favorites is Children Go Where I Send Thee.I realy like the selection of songs,i suppose the problem with Christmas Cds is that they are seasonal. But it still can be enjoyable anytime of year.

  5. Among Christmas Albums, "Morningtown Ride to Christmas" shines like the jewel it is. Other reviewers have rightfully called it a masterpiece. This will not surprise long-time fans of the Seekers, familiar with this wonderful Australian group's time-honored ability to achieve pure magic on any song they touch. Such loyal fans need no persuasion to acquire this album.

This review is for those unfamiliar with the Seekers, particularly Americans. We did not get a chance to fully know the Seekers at the height of their popularity in the mid 1960's, due to lack of touring and promotion within the U.S. That was truly a loss to America. This Christmas album will demonstrate the genius of the Seekers: their ability to use simple acoustic instruments, combined with traditional song arrangements, and perform with incredible power, beauty and harmony. The Seekers are difficult to compare with any other group, past or present, as their beautiful harmonies and style are so unique. Originally classed in the simpler days of the 1960's as Pop/Folk/Gospel, the Seekers are best described as being in a class by themselves. To attempt description of the Seekers style would require reference to Blues, Jazz, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Gospel, Soft Rock, and more, and even that attempt would fall far short.

The Seekers are Judith Durham, Athol Guy, Keith Potger, and Bruce Woodley. Judith, blessed with perfect pitch, has a voice that ranks as one of the finest in the world. It is difficult to bring to mind, a singer today, capable of matching the range, power and beauty of Judith's voice. Her voice will be distantly familiar to many older Americans, due to the 1967 worldwide hit "Georgy Girl", probably the only Seekers song that actually got decent radio airtime in the U.S. The "Boys", Athol, Keith and Bruce, provide incredible harmonies of absolute perfection with Judith, another Seekers trademark. Bruce provides his rich baritone as lead or co-lead on some songs. The awesome guitar (6 & 12-string), banjo, and mandolin skills of Keith and Bruce also enhance this beautiful album. Athol's skill with the double bass is equally impressive, whether used as an upright bass, or as a bass violin.

"Morningtown Ride to Christmas" will become a favorite Christmas Album for most. Do not be surprised if this album launches a search for other Seekers albums. The magic of the Seekers is evident in all they sing, whether classed as Pop, Gospel, Folk or Christmas. Over many years, the Seekers' wide range of music, performed with matchless skill, sounds as good or better live as in their studio recordings. The Seekers can cover an incredibly wide range of music with such superb skill, that there simply exists no other group to compare them with. The Seekers, Judith, Athol, Keith and Bruce, are truly in a class by themselves.

  1. I enjoyed Ms. Cole's CD. I have always listened to her father's CD during the holidays and now I can listen to hers too. It was quite enjoyable.

  2. I originally bought this item because I love the song "Mary Did You Know?" Natalie Cole's voice only made it that much more enjoyable. The best surprise on the CD was a duet with her father. I really love the sound of their two voices together.

  3. Almost all the cuts focus on Pop-MOR Standards. There is a Bring-Back-The-Dead-Duet with her Dad (Nat 'King' Cole) on "The Christmas Song", yes this worked once on "Unforgettable", but to keep doing this gets to be a little stale or why just do a complete Duet Project with Natalie and her Dad? (Hmmmmmmmm, Something to think about, who knows maybe it could be a Grammy winning project?). Standout cuts are: "Sleigh Ride", "Mary, Did You Know" & "Carol Of The Bells". Now understand, this ain't the type of album to get your party started, but for some real nice Office Party this would work well...Wine, Cheese & Crackers.

  4. The wonderful father/daughter duet The Christmas Song alone is worth the cost of the CD. But the whole CD is great. Natalie's Grown Up Christmas List is one of the best versions--heartfelt, sincere (get out your box of kleenex, you'll need it). When she sings this song it is a touching plea for peace and increase human kindness. She doesn't just march through the lyrics in this song (or any song she performs, for that matter)--she LIVES them. I challenge you not to cry after the modulation of the song and the choir comes in.

What makes Cole's version of Sleigh Ride so great is the change of tempo. She has fun with the song, and that makes it a fun song to listen to.

    Also recommended:

Angel on My Shoulder: An Autobiography--this book shows that Natalie Cole is not just a great singer, she is an incredible, amazing, and courageous woman--an awesome example of strength.

Christmas Gifts, Christmas Voices--remember the box of kleenex you got for Natalie's Grown Up Christmas List? Well, save some tissues for this book.

  5. Each Christmas season there is a glut of single-artist and multi-artist compilations vying for your attention (and dollars), but if you see this one, which first entered the scene in 1999, and you are thinking about adding to your Christmas music library, my advice would be to grab a copy.

In addition to beautiful renditions of traditional and familiar classic carols like Hark The Herald Angels Sing, O Tannenbaum, and Carol Of The Bells, Natalie and The London Symphony Orchestra outdo themselves on Mel Torme's The Christmas Song, Sammy Cahn & Julie Styne's Christmas Waltz, and Leroy Anderson's immortal Sleigh Ride. My particular favourite, however, is their handling of David Foster and Linda Thompson Jenner's My Grown-Up Christmas List, which became a hit single in 2003 for Kelly Clarkson.

The sound quality is perfect, although the fold-out insert is confined to a re-listing of the tracks showing composers and two brief paragraphs from Natalie in which she acknowledges those who worked with her on the album, PLUS another full-length shot of Natalie in that white gown.
