5 comments about Sesame Street: Halloween Bonus Pack.
  1. I bought this for my 20 month old son bc he loves Elmo (or Ehmo as he says) and these are great! They are so good, I kept them out for 2+ extra months after Halloween bc he loved them so much and only just yesterday packed them up with Halloween goodies so he would be excited next year.

    You won't be disappointed:-)

  2. I bought this pack for my two year old son. He loved it! He still asks to watch it long after Halloween. The pack included "Elmo Says Boo" & "A Magical Halloween Adventure". My son is going through a "scared of everything" phase, so I was a bit worried, but there wasn't anything on either disc that upset him. He enjoyed every minute. He laughed through both shows. Keeping a two year old interested is a pretty tough trick but these shows sure worked on my little guy. I highly recommend it!

  3. I simply gave this 4 stars because of my 3-year olds' reaction. She seemed a little scared, which surprised me because we've owned Sesame Street videos before and they are perfect. You can expect this, though, since they are Halloween videos.
Just a suggestion, if you gently, simply explain to your little one that things are pretend, honestly I think they'll be ok. For example, my daughter was very scared at first of the skeleton in 'Elmo Says Boo'. I could see that in her face, so I simply said it was just silly and we all have bones, so tell the skeleton to "Get some skin!" That's just what she says now and she's not scared anymore.
Another caution, on the second video, they do talk about monsters being in the closet, which obviously may create a problem for your little one's imagination. I simply explained that the monsters were funny monsters just like Elmo and they were playing peek-a-boo. That seemed to resolve the issue.
Overall, I recommend these videos and you can't beat it for the deal. Great to watch all fall through the Halloween season. Enjoy if you decide to purchase this set!

  4. This is the first movie my 17 month old son insists that I play over and over. I also really like this special, I just wish they were longer. For those with small children, this is a great halloween treat. Good songs, good story. I highly recommend it!

  5. I grew up watching Sesame Street and now my daughter is doing the same. She absolutely adores anything Sesame Street and if it's on TV, she stops what she's doing and runs to watch. She loves the Halloween DVD and watches it even though Halloween has passed. I'd recommend it to anyone that wants entertaining television that also teaches numbers and ABC's.

5 comments about Casper Meets Wendy.
  1. "Casper Meets Wendy" is the fun-filled story of everyone's favorite friendly ghost, Casper, and his very first encounter with Wendy the good little witch! When sweet little Wendy finds herself the target of an evil warlock's scheme to stay on top of the witchcraft game, she and her nasty aunts must hideout at a sunny vacation resort. To their ghost-hating dismay, it's the same resort where Casper and his uncles are spending a relaxing vacation away from the grind of their daily scaring routine. Wendy and Casper quickly realize they are kindred spirits and become fast friends, but their relatives will have no part in it. They'll all have to learn to work together though, once the wicked Desmond Spellman's goons pinpoint their location.

Fresh off the heels of "Casper: A Spirited Beginning," family-friendly director Sean McNamara does himself one better in his second Casper outing, this time going for a stellar cast and all-out wackiness! The result should thrill the younger set, though it may prove too goofy for teens and adults who don't have a softer side for kids' stuff. Luckily, I'm a cartoon and family film lover, and, being an addict of the annual Halloween specials I grew up with, this direct to video offering is a real treat. Sure, it's loaded with moments that make you glad you're watching it alone, or wish that you were, there are bad jokes and bad acting to spare, but it also takes you back to the fun you had in your childhood with programs like "The Worst Witch" and "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" (AKA "The Night Dracula Saved the World"). The outlandish costumes and low-budget effects scream Halloween special, and how can you go wrong with George Hamilton evoking memories of "Love At First Bite" alongside the likes of Shelley Duvall, Teri Garr, Cathy Moriarty, Pauly Shore, Richard Moll, and Vincent Schiavelli. And, let's not forget my favorite person on the planet, Hilary Duff, in her first starring role! Yes, this is back before Lizzie McGuire, folks. The current girl of my dreams is cute as a button here in her early days as Wendy the good little witch!

The truth is, this film is not for everyone. It's direct to video quality in every way, but it's direct to video that works. How so? Well, yes, there's a high cheeze factor, and even my dreamgirl Hilary clearly shows her lack of experience at acting during the first half of the film (she surprisingly improves greatly partway through). True, some of the lines that are meant as jokes just don't seem to make sense or seem to be in the wrong context, or are utterly ridiculous to an annoying point. Then, you have Pauly Shore, who hardly seems to take his role in the film seriously. Still, what makes this film acceptable and entertaining, and makes all of its flaws acceptable too, is the fact that it is intended to be a kooky kids film. It's all about being silly, and it does its job well, while still pulling off the cutesy, feel-good friendship moments too. Now, if you sit down to watch "Casper Meets Wendy" expecting to view something along the lines of the Steven Spielberg big budget theatrical Casper film, then you're going to be disappointed. However, if you even mildly enjoyed "Casper: A Spirited Beginning," or are just interested in anything starring Hilary Duff, you might want to give this one a look. The extras include the trailer for the feature, among others, and a nice little 6 minute and 39 second behind-the-scenes featurette. Pretty decent for a DVD that I would have expected to be bare bones. Pick up "Casper Meets Wendy" if you are a Casper fan, a Hilary fan, or are just looking for something cute to fill the void of a new Halloween special this year!

  2. My kids love this movie, friendly-scary (if at all scary). One question, if anyone is reading this, who is the singer of the title song.

  3. Being 16, I have lived through the first Casper and the horrid sequels. While I think that the first Casper mildly creeped me out when I was younger, and that majority of the sequels following that were horrible, I think that making Casper Meets Wendy was a great recovery for the creators of the original Casper. Bringing together well-known older actresses was a great choice, making it entertaining to see them in such whimsical roles, while Hilary Duff did a great job on one of her first acting jobs. While some of the one-liners may leave you rolling your eyes, it is a great childrens movie and will keep parents entertained as well.

  4. My 4-year old son was thrilled when "Casper Meets Wendy" arrived at our door. We had been looking for it in every store known to man since last Halloween (when he first saw it)! I'd given up hope until it dawned on me to check Amazon.com. Wish I had done it sooner, that's for sure!
The DVD came sooner than I expected, if you can believe that, was in perfect condition and was thouroghly enjoyed by my son.

  5. Ghosts V.S witches I like to say. Who will win? Casper, Stench, Stinky, and fatso? or Wendy and her Aunts.

  1. I love this DVD as I am quite the connoisseur of Halloween specials; I can't get enough of them! Hey Arnold's 'Arnold's Halloween' strikes the jackpot with its War of the Worlds inspired storyline; it's sufficiantly moody and fun. Rugrats' 'Curse of the Werewuff' is a new entry into Nick's Halloween canon and a welcome one at that. A show that has become too precious as of late, this stops before going to far with its own "cuteness". I still prefer thir original Halloween episode 'Candy Bar Creep Show', but 'Werewuff' is still highly enjoyable! The Fairly Odd Parent's 'Scary GodParents' is equally hip and funny and SpongeBob SquarePants' 'Scaredy Pants' is perfect. Only the strange inclusion of two non-Halloween related Rocket Power stories stops me forom giving this a five-star rating; they have a Halloween epsiode so why wasn't it included? Their two entires seem pointless and only one is anywhere near being holiday themed. With so many great Halloween epsiodes left off the DVD, one has to wonder at this choice.

  1. Every once in a while they manage to film a really good Ghost Story and they have done it with this movie. The viewer is introduced to Allan, a College kids back in the 1970's who is hitchiking to Lewiston in Maine to visit his ill mother. Allan is confronted by the ghosts of his past and present during his long lonely walk to the hospital. This movie is dark, eerie and very atmospheric and this is one film which I would have liked to have watched on the big screen. The extra feature included in this DVD is Allan's sketch book which is alone makes this movie worth watching. Bravo to all concerned with the making of this film.

  2. i also love every adaptation of kings books even storm of the century & rose red was cheezy but had good acting & was semi scary. this started out really good & like the others. once he begins his journey its over from their, first you find out that he is a supper wimp that tries to act cool, a character that is saposed to not be the main charcter unless a comedy, he is afraid of even an old weak man. david arquete cant act his way out of nut sack, so theirs no saprise that this is his worst movie ever. they try to play every sceen with at lease 3 ways that the situation could happen in his head but dosent come true, that is a great use of showing horror or scary elements that dont happen but thats the whole movie, no one really dies except he has a vision of his dad blowing his head off but just shows the wall splatter, but hese already dead before the movie starts & his mother at the end but she died of lung cancer, he dosent even really get hurt although he gets fakly attacked several times. the end of the movie will possibly make you throw up its so bad, they try to monolague the rest of his life that ends making him look even more pathetic than he was throught the movie, which is a lot more trust me or watch for your self. i have no idea how this got an r rating due to no severed parts, light swearing, no nudity, & the only part that i could say is his dad blows his head off but ive sceen worst in pg-13. they must have begged to get the ratting because i wont watch those sad pathetic pg-13's unless just cause. im not sure what the rest of you saw giving this 4 & 5 stars. yall must love the cry wolf & all the pg-13 horror garbage, so if thats your style this movis is ripe for your picking.

  3. Its kind off like Stephen king meets Twilight Zone. Dont get me wrong both are brilliant but i appreciate King as more of an "Epic" 3 hour mini-series kind of storyteller and not the hitchcock short story kind of guy.

It really feels like you have just watched a short story from Twilight zone at the end of the day. The character development and storyline is just too limited to be worth the 2 hours.

If it was one of 3 stories on a ("twilight zone like") compilation and only an hour or so in length, it would have been 5 stars!

If you want an epic tale by King (like Rose Red, Storm of the centuary, the Shining) rather look for something else because this will dissapoint you.

    (Please forgive me Mr. King)

  4. Once again Mick Garris is at the helm of another Stephen King adaptation. Garris has made many King movies(if it's a mini series or tv movie, you can bet it was most likely Garris), and while his contributions aren't as memorable as efforts by other directors, Garris tries his damndest to stick as close to the source material as possible. Plus he is one of the most active and dedicated individuals in the horror scene, and for that I respect him quite a bit. But I can't honestly say he made a great movie here. Not bad, but nothing worth a second viewing. Much more plot has been added to the story in order to fill out the 90+ minute running time. A story like this(which if I recall was around 50 pages, give or take) should have been done as one of Garris' Masters Of Horror episodes rather than a full length movie. But when Garris is on, he's on. Alot of the dialogue is straight from the story. A big problem with this movie is Garris' repeated use of the daydream gimmick. You know those scenes in film when something happens to a character(usually horrific and outrageous), then the scene quickly flashes back to the character before the horrific event and you realize that it was all in the character's imagination? This movie is full of these. In fact, it may actually have set a record for uses of this movie trick. It seems to happen at least once every two minutes and quickly becomes silly and then downright annoying. Plus we add a bunch of hallucinations and the main character continuously talking to himself(two of the same actor onscreen at once) and it dulls the suspense and seems like a desperate attempt at being flashy. Plus, the film takes place in 1969, but every now and then we get a blast of very modern sounding music. Personally I can't stand anachronistic music in a film that's supposed to be taking place in a different time period. But even with all of my yapping and whining, Garris managed to pull off another passably entertaining and fairly accurate King adaptation. Just not a terrible memorable one.

  5. I've never seen a horror movie with a plot like this before. It's absolutely original. The first half of the movie is engaging. Some frightening and suspenseful scenes happened while he's walking on the street at night. For example, the moment when he was chased into a car cemetery by two strangers.
The second half is boring and repetitive. The worst thing is it turned out they all came from his own imagination!

    It's worth watching once.

5 comments about Walt Disney Cartoon Classics: Halloween Haunts.
  1. I recently acquired this tape and was dismayed to see a very bad musical number preceeding the cartoons. The tape is worth owning, but I would have preferred it if the musical number had been listed as being on the tape instead of waiting like a bad Halloween trick.

  2. There are three great cartoons on this video. First, In "Pluto's Judgement day", Pluto is on trial in the "court of cats", and proven guilty by the Jury. In the end, it turns out to be a dream. Next in "Lonesome Ghosts" (Which is one of my favorites), Mickey, Donald and Goofy play ghost exterminators who must go to a haunted house, and exterminate some fun-loving ghosts. They have many misadventures, but they finally get them out of the house when they get covered in molasses and flour, and the ghosts become scared of them. Finally, in "Trick Or Treat", Huey, Dewey and Louie come to Donald's house in their halloween costumes. He plays tricks on them until Witch Hazel joins up with them, and with her magical powers, she teaches Donald a lesson.

  3. This is a wonderful little video from Walt Disney Studios. It is a compilation of 3 great classic animated shorts, that fit the theme for Halloween viewing. First up is, "Pluto's Judgment Day", first seen in movie theatres on August 31, 1935. In this cartoon Mickey is mad at his dog Pluto for always chasing cats, this time a poor little kitten, and so Pluto knows he is "in the doghouse". He falls asleep and dreams he is taken to court in an underground cavern for crimes against felines, with cats for prosecutor, judge and jury. It quickly becomes a nightmare as the cats torment Pluto and sentence him. He learns his lesson to say the least. Great imagery and sight gags in this short directed by Dave Hand, the short really showcases the body language personality that an animator can build into an animated character that can't speak. Two of Walt's most famous animators worked on this, Ward Kimball and Fred Moore. There used to be a "Uncle Tom" cat character that has been edited out in recent versions.

Originally released in theatres on Christmas Eve 1937, "Lonesome Ghosts" was directed by Burt Gillett, and Art Babbit was one of the animators. Mickey, Donald, and Goofy run a ghost exterminator shop, but don't have any business. Some tough ghosts in a haunted house decide to have some fun and prank call the ghost-hunters to come get the ghosts out of the house. Excited to finally have some work, the boys race over to battle the spooks. Slapstick comedy abounds as the boys fumble their way through the house and the ghosts constantly get the better of them. The special effects of the ghosts, created with transparent paint invented by the studio are really well done. The backgrounds in the house are very detailed. This classic short has been a favorite of fans for many years, it is a hilarious tale, one of the best cartoons ever made. . It was included as an extra on the DVD's "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad", "Disney Treasure Mickey Mouse is Living Color Vol. 1",and "Mickey's House of Villains". Beware of the Disney PC police editors, in that some DVD versions edit out the scene where Mickey shoots at a ghost with his gun. This is pretty silly since the bullets didn't harm the ghost anyway.

Last is my favorite on this tape, released theatrically on October 10, 1952. This is the only one of the 3 that is actually supposed to portray Halloween. Its Halloween night and Donald Duck's nephews have come to Trick or Treat on his doorstep in their new Halloween costumes. Instead of giving them candy, Uncle Donald plays mean-spirited tricks on them including dumping water on them and then laughs at their misfortune. A real but very nice Witch Hazel (ideally voiced by June Foray) happens to see this and decides to give the boys a hand in punishing Donald while getting the treats for the boys. The story gets hilarious as she uses her powers to straighten Donald out. This one is themed directly on Halloween it's images are everywhere in this short directed by the great Jack Hannah. Bill Justice was an animator on this, and Yale Gracy did the layouts and background. Gracey later became an Imagineer and is renown for his special effects creations at the "Haunted Mansion" in Disneyland. "Trick or Treat" is also the title for the great bouncy song in this cartoon written by Paul Smith. It is sung by the great "Mellomen" which included the voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft. The Mellomen also sang in Lady and the Tramp and other shows from Disney. I promise you will be singing this all day once you hear it. This short was also on "Wonderful World of Disney" TV show in the episode "All About Magic" on January 30, 1957 which used the Magic Mirror from Snow White as the host. It was included as an extra on the DVD's "The Black Cauldron", and "Mickey's House of Villains". One reviewer mistakenly thought that this animated short was based on a comic by the great Carl Barks, but it was the other way around. While the story did appear in Donald Duck #26 (November 1952) as the cover story at 32 pages, it was based on the short cartoon. Barks editors at Western Publishing needed a Halloween themed cover story for the holiday and already knew of the cartoon in production at the studio, so they asked him to create the comic based on the studio storyboards and the original story written by Ralph Wright. Bark's said he had add-lib some more scenes to the story to fill it out to 32 pages, as a comic flows differently than an animated short. This is according to an interview from the Carl Barks Library in 1985.

This tape is not scary, and very fun for kids and adults alike.

  4. the first tale in this movie, pluto's judgement day, was always so realistic to me when I was little. I loved these movies and they were really good for any time of the year. Great lessons and great songs in each story. Great for any age child!

  5. This is a Disney tape with three vintage shorts on it but they are all very good and one is a certified classic and perfect for Halloween. The run time is than a 1/2 hour but I still think it's worth it, if you can still find it that is.

Trick Or Treat (1952) This is a certified classic in my mind, and based on a great story by the legendary Carl Barks, I love the spooky, opening shot of the town. Donald would rather play a trick on Huey, Dewey, and Louie than give them a treat on Halloween. Witch Hazel overhears the problem and casts a spell on Donald and boys get their treat after all. Just a great short with gorgeous animation.

Pluto's Judgement Day (1935) an Early Technicolor short. Pluto's cat-chasing days come to a close when he dreams that he's sent to hell and put on trial for killing lots of cats. The jury is composed completely of cats! Not a true Halloween episode but still a spooky atmostphere.

Lonesome Ghosts (1937) This one is great as well. Four green phantoms want some fun, so they invite ghost busters Mickey, Donald, and Goofy over to their haunted home with the aim of driving them crazy. Great early Disney slapstick.

This is still a favorite of mine as the animation is all fantastic.

5 comments about Goosebumps - The Haunted Mask II.
  1. I don't know if you noticed, but they repeated what Carly Beth did. I used to think that 2 was better than 1 (As I stated in an earlier review). But this movie was really good and the ending was awesome! Buy this movie.

  2. Very good flick...goosebumps is the least frightening--
it might be for preschoolers only....the mask was cool--
although it was acting--it was very campy acting--
I mean the mask did look like that of an old man--
so how could a kid wearing a mask of an old man on his face scare anyone!!!!

The kid must have felt so stupid when filming of this episode was over!! Absolutely hilarious!!!!

I'll never understand why goosebumps was supposed to be chilling when it is clearly not!!

R.L. Stine is a superb writer though!!!

  3. Kathryn (if I spelled it right) Long, knows how to ACT! These are one of the better SEQUELS of the Goosebumps Series. All the kids in this movie knows how to act, the mask is scary, and it's exciting, fun, thrilling to watch. I recomend buying it. It's totally worth buying.

  4. Once again, useing kids reveiw to save my time.
So, last night I watched this movie ( i rented it from blockbuster). Ok, now u must understand, its Goosebumps, the childrens chessy TV show, so you really cant expect much "horor" from this movie. But, id have to say, this is much scarier than most of the goosebump flims. Its more morbid to start. Theres one sence witch the following words are used; "YOUR EYES WILL TURN TO [...],YOUR TOUNG WILL ROLL IN THE GRASS......DO YOU FEEL THE SPIDERS CRAWLING OVER YOUR TOUNGE?CREEPING UNDER YOUR SKIN??" Yes, its true , we've all probebly heard worse but in a little kiddie movie, i mean thats pretty awsome. At first the mask in this movie looks [...]. but as it forms to his skin it gets a bit creepyer...

  5. Once taunted Carlie Beth had hoped the evil masked she had dealt with a year earlier was gone for good. Her hopes had been dashed at a frightening, and dangerous, discovery, a mischievous male classmate had found the wretched mask within a rundown costume shack. Avoiding warnings from an old man, the creator of the haunted mask, the adolescent boy runs off with his treasure.
Halloween becomes a true scream, when the mask seems to be taking him over, scaring his male friend. Disturbed by the voice and terrifying attitude, change left the masked boy alone.
The friend later sees Carlie Beth, telling once questioned the events of the night. This leads Carlie Beth and the boy to haunt down the masked teenager.
Seeing the mad mask at work terrified the friends, put Carlie in huge trouble! A show of caring allowed the boy his freedom!
For "Goosebumps" television features this marks as some of the best works. This however came as a movie, due to length. It may have been scarier in nature, filling the super scares.

  1. "Clifford's Big Halloween" is a "Clifford the Big Red Dog" DVD release featuring eight stories about our favorite big red dog (R.I.P. John Ritter) and his doggie and human friends. This DVD includes stories from frightful to fun.

The first story on this DVD is "Boo," in which everyone watches a scary movie for Halloween. Jetta claims nothing scared her, but then gets scared when she sees a very large ghost. Now who might that be?

Other stories are "Leaf of Absence," "A New Dog in Town," "Not Now I'm Busy," "Clifford's Carnival," ":Come Back, Mac," "Dino Cliford" and "The Trouble With Kittens." Themes covered include taking responsibility, not giving up, not jumping to conclusions, helping others and much more.

All episodes are close-captioned, though the special features are not. The audio is Dolby Digital and includes a Spanish track. Special features include "Speckle Stories" seen in between stories of the show on TV and a pumpkin-carving game.

5 comments about Boogeymen - The Killer Compilation.
  1. First off I will say that this DVD is only for Horror movie fans. It is not a documentry, what it is a 50 minute long main presentation of the best horror movie icons. and it shows a quick intro of that charactor, then an actual scene of one of the films they where in, and then moves onto the next... there's ALMOST all the fav's of the horror genre....

    - Jason Voorhees (Friday The 13th)
    - Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm St)
    - Michael Myers (Halloween)
    - Chucky (Childs Play)
    - Blade (Puppet Master)
    - Leprochaun (Leprachaun)
    - Leather Face (Texas Chainsaw Masacre)
    - Fisherman (I know what you did last summer)
    - Ghost (Scream)
    - Candyman (Candy man)
    - Norman Bates (Phycho)
    - Simon Cartright (The Ugly)
    - Pin Head (Hellraiser)

But they have forgotten about a few that I thought should have been included...

    - Skeleton Zombie (Return Of The Living Dead 1 + 2)
    - Ghoulies (Ghoulies)
    - Carrie White (Carrie)
    - Evil Dead (Evil Dead Trilogy Villians ect..)
    - Critters (Critters)
    - Wicked Witch (Wizard Of Oz)
    - Crypt Keeper (Tales from the crypt)
    - Michael Jackson (Moonwalker)

The extra features are an Audio Commentary by Robert England (Freddy Krueger) which isnt something you'll listen to again I dont think, and you get an on screen trivia option which disaplys bits of information about the movie as it's playing the clip, i'd recomend you turn the trivia on and listen to the commentary at the same time to kill 2 birds with one stone.

There is a trivia game that is not worth looking at, you press start and it shows a picture and you just have to select what movie it's from, but there is no point, you can anser as many as ya want, it doesnt lead you to anything!

There is a biography of each of the people from the feature presnatation.

and Trailers to a couple of the movies on the feature, but not all of them.

There's also a link for anyone with a DVD on there computer, and your usual subtitles, 5.1 surround ect....

Overall: like I said, if you like horror movies, then you might like this if you care to know a bit of information on the films that you probably already knew, other wise it's not worth much, just seeing scenes from films together on one DVD is ok, but not lastingly thrilling, the scenes they chose couldve been better, they have picked some lame scenes to show in some areas. It would be great to see all of these horror icons meet on the big screen in an ultimate horror icon battle royal, but with all the copyright hassel to do something like that, this is most likely the closet we will get to see all of them together on the one show. I would recomend you rent it before you decide if you want to buy it.

  2. Boogeymen is a awesome jam packed dvd!!!!!! For all us horror buffs like myself this has all the killers on one dvd!!!!! They include Freddy, Jason, Chucky, Ghostface, and Fishermen!!!!! 1. Good Movie for the Halloween Season you get two movie for the price of one and you can be scared for a whole afternoon highly recommend if you are in to the Halloweem Movies

  2. Halloween 2 explains a lot for you and is all in all a very good movie. On the other hand, halloween 3 in my opinion was a waste of the halloween name. It had nothing to do with Michael Myers and just a sucky movie. But if you are like me, and you can't have some movies without all in a series, then it is well worth the money.

  3. Halloween II: Not at all the best in the series. Better than Curse of Michael Myers, but worse than all the others. It has no real characters and no real plot. Just a pick up of where the last one left us to a cat-and-mouse through a hospital to Michael's death. That's about it.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is my personal favorite of all the sequels. Too many people give this film a hard time because boo-hoo, Michael isn't in it. Yeah, like we really need to see him running around stabbing people again. This is more of a spooky film and gets away from the slasher angle of the others.
I give Halloween 2 only 2 stars, but Halloween 3 gets 5 stars.

  4. The spooky atmosphere makes these films. I recommend this Film to anyone. My favourite movies are pts 1-5. Pt 1 - 3 brings me back to my youth and the DVD transfers are fine, if you are after something intelligent, this is not for you, for the films are a fun and entertaining session of good-looking horny teens getting slashed. Not great but what the hell its all popcorn stuff anyway. If anyone is interested in Halloween collectables, email taylor5821@hotmail.com

  5. in this two disc collection, you'll find the only two Halloween films Universal Studios produced, the decent Halloween II and the odious Halloween III: Season of the Witch. so why did i give this product five stars? because i'm a Halloween fan and i know any other fan of the series will want to get this.

Halloween II picks up where John Carpenter's classic left off. unstoppable killer Michael Myers is still on the loose, carving his way through victims on a bloody path that leads to the hospitalized Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). a large portion of the film takes place in a hospital, which is somewhat dismaying because a hospital isn't a very fitting setting for a movie that takes place on Halloween night. and the blood and violence is ratcheted up considerably this time around, after its predecessor inspired a boom of gore-filled holiday slasher copycats that Halloween II had to keep pace with. the ending is explosive and seemingly final, leading to...

Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the misunderstood child of the franchise. Halloween III was an experiment in sequel-making, the result of Carpenter's choice to end the Michael Myers saga which seemingly petered out at the end of Halloween II. Carpenter and partner Debra Hill were approached by Universal for another Halloween film, so they decided to turn the series into a sort of anthology in the same vein as The Twilight Zone, where each installment was its own self-contained story but involving the dark holiday in some way. with the aid of famous screenwriter Nigel Kneale, they concocted a story involving an evil novelty company using Halloween masks in an attempt to invoke Halloween's mystical past by murdering millions of children on Halloween night. the film shares some aesthetic similarities to the previous two films (the opening credits involving the visage of a jack o'lantern and mysterious, calm killers whom seem to be able to walk faster than a normal person can run) but the comparisons really end there. the film shares more in common with Invasion of the Body Snatchers, sharing a disastrous, wide-spread conspiracy threat that the world needs to be alerted about before it's too late.

the film is incredibly flawed (apparently, the evil plot which takes effect at 9 PM throught the country, but time zones didn't seem to be a major factor in the plot's planning), but the film can be admired as a cautionary tale of commercialism gone mad and technology made for our enjoyment and benefit being used against us.

both these films can be seen as the trial-and-error genesis of the movie sequel. one film adheres to the repetitive-yet-popular nature of most sequels, while the other film completely abandons popular movie sequel formula. Halloween fans will definitely like this product, but film buffs and students of film can find plenty to learn from with these two movies.

  1. We first saw this movie on ABC Family. It's just enough of a scare for the entire family no matter the age. There's humor, too!

  2. We are a family that is ALL about Halloween and with small kids this movie entertains the adults and is fun for the kids. Christopher Lloyd is just great as a zombie. This movie is now one of my favorites even before the heat of summer is over!!

  3. [warning: review contains spoilers]

From Goosebumps' author R.L. Stine comes this delighful Halloween-themed tale, both charming and evocatively enjoyable:

Founded by the delightfully eccentric "Uncle" Fred Walker, Walker Falls has not seen a Halloween for years because of a purported "curse" placed upon it by one "Curtis Danko" {obvious 'Donnie Darko' influenced nomenclature}, labeled the town "weirdo" for his preference to dress in black, and express his imagination with monsters, and scenes of a world gone mad. His creativity is clearly envied by others, and thus, they react in fearful passive-aggressive manners which are no less than despicable, displaying their inferior and odious ill-natures.

So once when the art class project was to sculpt a depiction of one's hero*, the school bully and cronies lock him in the incinerator as a prank. He actually resembles Edward Scissorhands while sculpting.

Urban Legend: He refused for anyone to see his project, guarding it from all during the day. He returns at night to work on it in private. Next one morning, when Mike Kankel walks into the classroom, he notices something is wrong, and discovers Danko's ashes in the incinerator with his statue, with a forboding message written in the ashes, that if the town celebrates Halloween, he will return and face his wrath:

"If you ever have another Halloween again, I will return and destroy you all!"

Kankel pretends at blindness, claiming that the statue is so terrible that no one should look upon it as if made by someone counceled by The Devil, lest they go blind, or head explode, or even turn to stone, a-la Medusa's glare. So the ashes and statue are sealed within a crypt with nicely arranged cob-webbed chains.

Factuality: After a teasing session, Danko is incarcerated in the incinerator to be left until the following morning. Unfortunately, an absent-minded janitor accidentally taps the 'on' button, immolating Danko. Terrified of being blamed for his murder, he writes the warning in the ashes himself and claims that looking upon the statue blinded him for three days. It was later confessed that now Coach Kankel did it because funds were being directed into the fine arts at the school instead of sports activities.

'Uncle' Walker's grandson Danny arrives from Chicago to attend this new school, and is bullied by Kankel's son and his moronic hench boy. Despite this, he befriends Dayna who shows him marvelous secrets within Danko's haunted house, where, unbeknownst to the a-dolt towns people, the Magic of Halloween has been preserved - skeletons, skulls, demons, monsters, ghouls, bats, spiders, ghosts, zombies, witches, are all here in this abandoned mansion to be enjoyed in secret by the towns children**.

When Danny's business-minded father James suggests the town hold a "Spooktacular" Halloween celebration at a town meeting, the residents go bananas with fear, especially when time and time again, Halloween decorations begin mysteriously appearing about. James Walker seeks to re-open the Walker Chocolate factory {also founded by nucleus Uncle Walker, in a Willy Wonka vein}, with the help of soon-arriving German Businessmen, and the support of the towns people.

Uncle Walker is quite a character, who listens to his Hammond Organ recordings on his jukebox, building elaborate tracks for his hot wheels, surrounded by amusing nick knacks, while attired in various playful outfits. He serves as a true father for Danny, since his dad is virtually un-present in the goings-on of his life. Someone who could actually offer the wisdom of experience as well as be a playmate and friend. Also mentionable is the sage wisdom imparted to Danny about the Magic of Halloween...

So when he apparently dies from a bash on the head by a falling pumpkin from a veritable pumpkin mountain pile which strangely appears in the town square, his heart is broken until he later returns as a zombie to help him place Danko's statue in its rightful place. In the meantime, several amusing circumstances unfold including the appearance of 'Cheesy The Clown' {quite a Lokian depiction}, and Uncle Walker retrieving his runaway hand, a-la Thing {especially humorous considering Christopher Lloyd wonderfully portrayed Uncle Fester in treasured films 'The Addams Family' & 'Addams Family Values'}.

When Danko returns from the grave with green-glowing eyes in skeletal form, who along with various other zombies, at the secret Halloween dance, all is finally set to balance as Halloween is restored, after a shameful spectacle and confession by Coach Kankel, the statue is finally seen, which provides for quite a surprise, followed by a moving ending scene and narration.

    * Interesting to note that I actually sculpted a statue for art class of a Baphomet-headed Satan in a robe wearing a pentagram medallion, holding a sword in one hand and signifying The Cornu with the other. To My surprise, Sgt. Randy Emon was notified, who took photos of it for his occult portfolio.

** It can be observed that the mansion may also be considered a metaphor for the subconscious accumulation of archetypal images of fear and memento moris, waiting to be released and celebrated. To deny them only causes an unbalanced psyche.

  4. I remembered watching this movie on ABC Family (I believe it was Fox Family at the time). I never knew that it was released to DVD, so when I saw it, I had to have it. It brought back some great memories. I love this movie. Great flick for the whole family, and since it was written by R.L. Stine, it's great for all ages.

  5. An excellent "fun for the whole family" halloween film:) It is geared more toward young teens but a delightful Halloween movie for all ages! It is based around bringing the spirit of Halloween into a town that has essentially banned all to do with "Halloween". A young boy and his "dead" grandfather turn around the town's views on this spooky festive fall holliday!
