5 comments about Halloween II / Halloween III - Season of the Witch (Double Feature).
  1. Good Movie for the Halloween Season you get two movie for the price of one and you can be scared for a whole afternoon highly recommend if you are in to the Halloweem Movies

  2. Halloween 2 explains a lot for you and is all in all a very good movie. On the other hand, halloween 3 in my opinion was a waste of the halloween name. It had nothing to do with Michael Myers and just a sucky movie. But if you are like me, and you can't have some movies without all in a series, then it is well worth the money.

  3. Halloween II: Not at all the best in the series. Better than Curse of Michael Myers, but worse than all the others. It has no real characters and no real plot. Just a pick up of where the last one left us to a cat-and-mouse through a hospital to Michael's death. That's about it.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch is my personal favorite of all the sequels. Too many people give this film a hard time because boo-hoo, Michael isn't in it. Yeah, like we really need to see him running around stabbing people again. This is more of a spooky film and gets away from the slasher angle of the others.
I give Halloween 2 only 2 stars, but Halloween 3 gets 5 stars.

  4. The spooky atmosphere makes these films. I recommend this Film to anyone. My favourite movies are pts 1-5. Pt 1 - 3 brings me back to my youth and the DVD transfers are fine, if you are after something intelligent, this is not for you, for the films are a fun and entertaining session of good-looking horny teens getting slashed. Not great but what the hell its all popcorn stuff anyway. If anyone is interested in Halloween collectables, email taylor5821@hotmail.com

  5. in this two disc collection, you'll find the only two Halloween films Universal Studios produced, the decent Halloween II and the odious Halloween III: Season of the Witch. so why did i give this product five stars? because i'm a Halloween fan and i know any other fan of the series will want to get this.

Halloween II picks up where John Carpenter's classic left off. unstoppable killer Michael Myers is still on the loose, carving his way through victims on a bloody path that leads to the hospitalized Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). a large portion of the film takes place in a hospital, which is somewhat dismaying because a hospital isn't a very fitting setting for a movie that takes place on Halloween night. and the blood and violence is ratcheted up considerably this time around, after its predecessor inspired a boom of gore-filled holiday slasher copycats that Halloween II had to keep pace with. the ending is explosive and seemingly final, leading to...

Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the misunderstood child of the franchise. Halloween III was an experiment in sequel-making, the result of Carpenter's choice to end the Michael Myers saga which seemingly petered out at the end of Halloween II. Carpenter and partner Debra Hill were approached by Universal for another Halloween film, so they decided to turn the series into a sort of anthology in the same vein as The Twilight Zone, where each installment was its own self-contained story but involving the dark holiday in some way. with the aid of famous screenwriter Nigel Kneale, they concocted a story involving an evil novelty company using Halloween masks in an attempt to invoke Halloween's mystical past by murdering millions of children on Halloween night. the film shares some aesthetic similarities to the previous two films (the opening credits involving the visage of a jack o'lantern and mysterious, calm killers whom seem to be able to walk faster than a normal person can run) but the comparisons really end there. the film shares more in common with Invasion of the Body Snatchers, sharing a disastrous, wide-spread conspiracy threat that the world needs to be alerted about before it's too late.

the film is incredibly flawed (apparently, the evil plot which takes effect at 9 PM throught the country, but time zones didn't seem to be a major factor in the plot's planning), but the film can be admired as a cautionary tale of commercialism gone mad and technology made for our enjoyment and benefit being used against us.

both these films can be seen as the trial-and-error genesis of the movie sequel. one film adheres to the repetitive-yet-popular nature of most sequels, while the other film completely abandons popular movie sequel formula. Halloween fans will definitely like this product, but film buffs and students of film can find plenty to learn from with these two movies.

    #1:

As co-producer of GROTESQUERIES I am delighted to be able to share the following comments on the DVD from Walter von Bosau of the Film Department at Boston University:

I just wanted to drop you a note, telling you how delighted and thrilledI am with the DVD of
GROTESQUERIES. I had originally heard about it through the Creepy Classics website, and ordered it.
I'v e just finished it, and it is a treat from beginning to end. It' s the best DVD I have purchased this year.
My thanks to all involved for putting this together. "

    #2:

    Title: Gilbert & Sullivan's `Ghosts' High Noon'

A highlight of this DVD, the Finalé to Act Three, is an animated visualization of `The Ghosts' High Noon' from Gilbert and Sullivan's Comique-Opera, "Ruddigore' or `The Witche's Curse'.

The `curse' is upon the descendants of Ruddigore. They must commit one crime a day or perish.

In the sequence depicted, the picture gallery of Ruddigore Castle, the heir apparent, Robin Oakapple, is confronted by his ghostly ancestors led by Sir Roderic Murgatroyd, who warns the youthful lad that `they fate thou canst not now avoid.'

But Roderic and his spirited relations are a jolly crew, and they sing about their revel-making on `The Ghosts' High Noon.'

The song is repeated with viewers invited to sing-a-long to lyrics at the bottom of the screen. Sir Roderic is sung by Darrell Fancourt with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Chorus under Maestro Malcolm Sargent -from a 1931 HMV pressing through the courtesy of Chris Webster.

And if you feel like polishing-off yet another Gilbert and Sullivan tongue-twisting tune try warbling `The Sorcerer's Song' from `The Sorcerer' offered in Haunted Melodies, one of 13 wicked bonus features.

An image from `The Ghosts' High Noon' is now available on this site.

  1. Very happy with the purchase - My grandson just loved the dvd and toy that came with it.

  2. I purchased this DVD as a Halloween treat for my 3 year old son.
He absolutely loves it, so much so that we almost missed the start of trick or treating. He sang the song Boo Boo Choo Choo for all of our neighbors when he went to their houses to get candy. I would definately recommend this DVD to anyone who has a Thomas fan in their house.

  3. I saw this product and decided to pick it up for my grandchildren. Little did I know it would become their favorite Thomas episodes! They are still watching it now. This is definetely a favorite of theirs!

  4. We enjoyed all the stories and "Boo Boo Choo Choo" but my kid was a little scared watching it...Better for the older Thomas fan!

  5. My 3 year old son loved this video and the toy train - I bought it back around Halloween and have since bought the Ultimate Christmas, Calling All Engines, Track Stars, Thomas and the Magic Railroad, and Tales from the Track. We love them all - Calling All Engines is his DVD of choice lately. The Magic Railroad is a great full length movie with Alec Baldwin and Peter Fonda which ties the Island of Sodor to our world. We have yet to be disappointed in our Thomas purchases! Enjoy!!

  1. This is a cool story and has great visuals if you like a good horror flick!

  2. Playing like a bad mix of 'House on Haunted Hill' and 'Halloween: Resurrection' (yes, worse than 'Halloween: Resurrection'), we follow the story of three couples (including a couple football players, an emo lesbian, and a porn star. . . seriously) who are invited to the former home of amateur mountain climber & psychotic murderer Sean McIntyre (which might be the lamest name for a killer in the history of horror). Why? Because some rich guy (who looks like the prickish lovechild of Eli Roth and Colin Farrell) promised them $5,000 if they'd participate in his live-stream webcast at the haunted house. As expected, the ghost of McIntyre is brought back during a séance (why do I even bother?) and begins to stalk down his house guests.

Well, what's there to say? I wasn't expecting much here, and I got what I was expecting. This simply is not a good film. The premise isn't awful, I suppose. Worse ideas have made better films. But, though it's said too much: The execution was just plain bad. The writing was stale, clunky, and chock-full of clichés; and it wasn't helped by the laughably bad acting. Sadly, unlike many other modern straight-to-video horrors, the cast that kept their clothes on isn't even attractive enough to make up for their lack of talent. I will give the film one compliment: the gore FX were pretty good. . . even though the violence was unrealistic (I mean, severing a head with a kitchen knife? C'mon). The direction (by someone who'd previously been into 'Sesame Street' videos) isn't terrible, but it seemed he didn't know which way he wanted to go with it, as it blends hand-held, steadicam, and realistic video. . . then there are jumping camera effects (including some little girl with cataracts or something) in only one scene that never show their face again. One style would've done better. . . at least we could've depended on SOMETHING in the film.

Beyond some good gore/violence, there really isn't much else to see in this amateurish film. There's better gore and better violence in better films. No need to bother with this one.

    Final Verdict: 2/10.

  1. I love this movie and so when i had the chance to get it in HD for dirt cheap i took the time to get it. The HD version is chrisp and clear and the sound is very sharp. Get this movie as it should be a must for anyone who collects HD DVDs :D

  2. I am not gong to review the movie as everyone has seen it and I only bought it for the HD-DVD aspect.

Like a lot of older re-released high def movies, the studio did not take extra steps on the re-release to take advantage of the greater capability of HD-DVD. The result is that neither the visuals nor the sound knock your socks off like the do in a full-on HD-DVD release. If you have the DVD version, no need to upgrade. If you don't and want the movie, you might as well get the HD release, but buy it used for less than $15 (delivered)...or just get a used DVD for $5.

  3. HD makes this movie so much better. It was good before but HD makes its better

  4. Based on the true story of the ill-fated last voyage of the Andrea Gail which sailed out of Gloucester, Mass in '91 off into the North Atlantic only to fall victim to the "Storm of the Century". The '00 film `Perfect Storm' depicts the tragic event in dramatic style featuring a strong, likeable cast, superior special effects and a memorable soundtrack. If there's any fault to be found in this re-visioning of the last days of the Andrea Gail is would be the overly romanticized manner in which the crew is depicted. At times it was kind of like watching `The Magnificent Seven At Sea'.

Rating: Overall `Perfect Storm' is an enjoyable watch with lots of familiar faces and fine performances; -3 ½ Stars-.

  5. Stick to the book or try the film on a large screen when you want something noisy and active. The main scenes during the storm with Ahab's (Clooney's) boat had quite well-done effects and a zillion gallons of water, as you would expect, but they felt to me more like an extended car chase, where lots is happening while also not much is happening.

The fine cast did not get much chance to develop, except for some spark from Clooney and Wahlberg and a few spots here and there. Otherwise some talent is wasted on stock roles such as Diane Lane's. At least an almost gaunt-looking Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was a ship captain herself, and not some homebody.

The prelude to going to sea did not allow for much character development, which is ok, given that the movie is "The Perfect Storm" and not the drama of human interaction. However, that meant nothing of particular interest, either. The setup for Bugsy and Irene was unusual and almost embarrassing.

I liked getting an idea what a sword boat looked like, how it operated, what they did with the fish, etc. Some more of that would have gone over well with me. The conflict between Murph and Sully seemed artificial and added little.

It's probably not a good sign when the other rescue scene got me wondering about my tax dollars at work. Do we really send sophisticated, expensive forces into hurricanes to rescue dummies, risking others, Private Ryan style? You better "earn this", people.

  1. I don't know what makes the Tele-Tubbies characters so interesting to young children but my nephew is mezmerised by them. The redeeming value is that there is basic/simple teaching that is accomplished - ABC's, counting, etc.

  2. As long as my baby enjoys it then that's all that matters. Personally I don't care for it.

    High-Tech House of the Future

  2. This is not part of the What's New Scooby Doo Volume set. It shows Volume 2 on the picture and clearly shows that 4 episodes are on the DVD ... but it is actually only 2 episodes from that volume ... NOT the full volume as pictured. I ordered it and got the wrong one .. sent it back and they sent me the same thing a second time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amazon ... but I was really frustrated that I couldn't actually get a PERSON to understand my problem. I just kept getting these emails back from someone who obviously didn't read my email or understand what was going on ... maybe it was automated .. who knows! I finally just gave up and found it at Walgreen's for $5.99. Bottom line ... don't order this if you want Volume 2!

  3. I loved Scooby as a child and now I'm getting my daughter into the Scooby Doo Movies. Any Scooby Doo movie is great...all are a must have in your collection.

5 comments about The Haunted History of Halloween (History Channel) (A&E DVD Archives).
  1. From the days before, before, to the present. This DVD will bring out the love of the season for all of us.

  2. The History Channel has always put out some great programs and i think this one was truly the most interesting and informative out of them all on holidays in the USA. Even though, they dont show this very often on History Channel (or any other "Haunted History"), its very rare that you will see it, maybe every now and then, but, not all the time as most reviewers would suggest..just so you know. I would buy this, not just for the information of the History, but, for the rare viewing that it gets. Highly Recommended!

  3. Take one part nostalgia and one part history and you get this fantastic DVD. I rented this one on a whim and fell in love. It may not do the same for you- but it perfectly captures the nostalgia of the americanized version of halloween that so many of us love.

But rather than stopping short at being a love letter to October 31st- this documentary is an outstanding starting point for those wanting to learn more about the long and amazing history of the holiday through it's many incarnations. This one doesn't try to be an exhaustive resource- but rather act as a primer and a broad overview.

You will get a background on some of our popular traditions in modern halloween, as well as learn about the miraculous life (and many near deaths) of All Hallow's Eve.

There are a few good laughs, lots of information, and all in a nice easy to digest package. If you enjoy Halloween at all- you can't miss with this one.

In fact- this is one of my dvds i watch when i need a little halloween spirit :)

Well worth the money and time spent.

  4. Excellent DVD with lots of information. Great to watch with like-minded friends just before Samhain to help remember what it is all about - not just trick-or-treaters! Raven Moon HPS Coven of Corvus Moon

  5. If you love history and HALLOWEEN, then this is the treat for you. You see how HALLOWEEN began 3,000 years ago, why we carve pumpkins, why children wear costumes and trick-or-treat, how ghost stories started, etc. It shows how HALLOWEEN looked during the 40's and 50's! (Which is one of my favorite parts!) They even talk about the film, HALLOWEEN. They also show news archives about razor blades in apples, and Devil's Night. I love the HALLOWEEN decorations that they show later in the movie. I highly recommend this HALLOWEEN treat if you love the holiday! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

5 comments about Monster House [Blu-ray].
  1. when before there used to be just disney films, recent technological developments gave the opportunity for animated movie producers to release several animated films in a year that you almost cannot keep track anymore. some of them, sadly, became mere exercises in digital graphics, mostly marketing the film through the famous hollywood actors who record the characters' voices. i've stopped looking forward to new animated flicks of late, including monster house that i passed up when it was shown in theaters.

but unlike other animated films (mostly with talking animals) that even failed to capture my attention when shown on the small screen, monster house was unlike anything i've seen before.

the plot is typical - three prepubescent youngsters try to "kill" an evil house from eating halloween trick-or-treaters. but the typical ends there. the movie is filled with witty dialog and three-dimensional characters in a setting that has both its light and dark moments. there are no cookie-cutter characters here - well, maybe the protagonists were cut off from the same mold as your average middle class suburban kids, but they were portrayed so naturally as far as movie tweeners go, bringing in an added sprinkling of spice in them. the frontline bad guy nebbercracker was the typical grumpy recluse who drives away kids from his front lawn, but later in the film reveals a rich story that centers on the plot.

everyone else in between was there to bring in the token comic relief - the goth babysitter, her rocker boyfriend, the video game dork, the police officers - all in a naturally amusing manner that was never contrived.

i was aghast learning from imdb.com that ours is the only country where this movie had a G rating. for instance, there was a minor scene where rocker boyfriend attempted to make out with babysitter on the sofa. and while the main characters seemed generally well-adjusted, the story behind the house seemed too dark for young kids. the house looked really scary, for one. even scarier than the creatures in jumanji, which had a PG rating. the film also explores adult issues, complicated grey areas like what to do if your loved one became an evil vengeful spirit, or moral questions such as "does this movie unintentionally portray obese people as evil/scary?" that can get ingrained on impressionable minds. while the themes of unconditional love, devotion and letting go can be for all ages, it was shown so poignantly in the movie with adult sensibilities.

well, i don't know. i watched this movie as an adult and enjoyed it very much. it lacked the air of happy-ever-after that most children's flicks are known for, but at least for the kids, the movie ended up happily. that is, for the neighborhood, not exactly for nebbercracker who, though seemingly happy himself for his newfound freedom, would naturally have to deal with his grief and maybe regret not being able to live his life for 40 years (plus, where would he live now?). to balance off these complications, the last part where all the toys were returned and all the people who were eaten up managed to climb out of the pit was a nice touch. definitely for the young ones' benefit.

memorable quote from the supporting character skull (the videogame enthusiast), attempting to impart some words of wisdom:
"In my travels to video game and comic book conventions, I've seen many strange and wondrous things".

  2. This movie is hilarious! The idea for this animated/horror/comedy/kids kick butt film was good, and then it's execution makes it a knockout. First of all, the way the boys act around the girl is SO FUNNY! ("DJ! You pee in bottles?!?")

I was laughing throughout the whole movie, from the beginning to the end, when they enter the house with a large arsenal of...water guns.

We need more movies like this!

    Four and a half stars!

  3. Good product, great prices, speedy delivery. I'm completely satisfied as is my son who loves his DVD.

  4. This is a fun, spooky movie for kids but us adults enjoyed it too. The effects are really neat, the things the house does. I found some good humor in it as well. I may not watch it 10 times, but most kids will.

  5. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Spooky scary. Probably too much so for kids under 11. Highly recommend.
