  1. The Vampires Strikes Back
    Mummy Scares Best
    High-Tech House of the Future
She Sees a Sea Monster by the Seashore

  2. This is not part of the What's New Scooby Doo Volume set. It shows Volume 2 on the picture and clearly shows that 4 episodes are on the DVD ... but it is actually only 2 episodes from that volume ... NOT the full volume as pictured. I ordered it and got the wrong one .. sent it back and they sent me the same thing a second time. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amazon ... but I was really frustrated that I couldn't actually get a PERSON to understand my problem. I just kept getting these emails back from someone who obviously didn't read my email or understand what was going on ... maybe it was automated .. who knows! I finally just gave up and found it at Walgreen's for $5.99. Bottom line ... don't order this if you want Volume 2!

  3. I loved Scooby as a child and now I'm getting my daughter into the Scooby Doo Movies. Any Scooby Doo movie is great...all are a must have in your collection.

  4. This would have to be my 5 year olds favourite, he owns approximately 25 Scooby DVDs but this one has been watched the most

  5. bought for kids - 6 & 3 - it was a little more dark than the original

5 comments about Halloween (Three-Disc Unrated Collector's Edition).
  1. I'm not a big horror fan. My housemates have repeatedly talked me into watching slasher film after slasher film, and I still just can't get into the genre. But this film is different. This film is actually really good. And that's not to say that other slasher films aren't. (I could never discredit the Scream series.) Rob Zombie's "Halloween" just goes beyond the simple bad-guy-with-a-knife stereotype and delivers an amazingly scary and sad story of a well-known fictional psychopath.

In this version of "Halloween", director Rob Zombie doesn't just retell the original story in his own style - he retells it well: Zombie's "Halloween" is more of a biography of Michael Myers than a slasher film staring Michael Myers. The first and best example of this is the opening act of the film: the back-story of Myers's childhood is almost thirty minutes long. (Most slasher films tell the back-story in a short five-minute teaser before the opening credits.) Once the audience is attached to Myers' character, the story progresses to show Myers' troubled life in a mental institution, his escape from the mental institution and finally his killing spree. Most films wouldn't go into this much detail on the nemesis's character which is what makes Zombie's version so good.

Overall, this movie will likely appeal more to horror fans but non-horror fans, such as myself, may enjoy it too. Yes, it shows blood and guts, but it's a great retelling of Michael Myers's story and I highly recommend it.

  2. I was very interested in an updated version of the film, plus the previews looked really dark and creepy. Unfortunately, I went and saw the movie...

For one, ALL of the characters have abnormally filthy mouths. Even Laurie had a filthy mouth, which made it very hard to think of her as a victim I'd want to survive.

Secondly, I don't need a lengthy biography on Michael. I wish they'd just leave at him being a born sociopath. Instead they made it due to child abuse and being picked on in school. What was interesting in the first one was when the parents run up to Michael after he's stabbed Judith to death and the parents look completely normal; their son is just crazy. Also in this remake here, Judith was an awful person and I was completely apathetic to her death. In fact, she pretty much deserved. I prefer innocent victims.

Rob Zombie knows how to create an awesome atmosphere, but he should NOT write his own scripts. He makes his characters so hard to like and they all have mouths like a bunch of uneducated trash.

Apparently a lot of people enjoyed this movie, but I hated every single character and basically sided with Michael despite how much I already hated his character. In my opinion, this movie is an enormous failure and it does not deserve this 3 disc special edition.

  3. Is it just me? Am I the only one sick of re-releases. Why even bother buying it when it comes out if they are going to release a better version ten times over in the coming years?

  4. The 1st thing I noticed about this movie was it was from the point of view of the hunter instead of the hunted. For the 1st time wee see what Michael sees not what his victims see. This version does an extensive build up of the Michale Myres character from his child hood of abuse- how his step dad mentally and physically abuses him and how his sister ignores him. We learn how he was picked on at school to the point this small 10 yr old snaps. We also get to learn about his obsession with masks and how he dealt with being in the mental institution as well as how he escaped and the storyline of how he became the monster he was in the previous movies. The 1st part of the movie gets the viewer to see exactly what happened to this small child to push the right buttons to create the perfect killing machine.
    .
The cinematography was great from the film color dating the movie back 20 yrs. With some modern changes to how high school kids act now a days to add to the realism. The blood wasn't over done or digitalized. Zombie kept a sense of realism that made the movie that much more believable raising the scare factor.

Of course if you follow zombies previous films you will see a hand full of actors and actresses make an appearance from time to time. The children actors did an amazing job as well. The other thing I liked was I never got bored. I remember the old slasher flicks like the Freddy and the Jason films as well as the old Halloween movies- during scenes of character development there was a lot of boring dialog that slowed the movies down to a crawl and lost my interest until another sex scene or another killing depending on the film I was watching. This movie manager to negate all that boring sluggishness development and still create a character on the screen.

  5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of The Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, and now Halloween. All originals were independent productions made with limited budgets that found worldwide success due to the fact they were simply well made original films. Leave it to Hollywood to do some sloppy cut n paste jobs with some hack/poser directors cashing in hard earned name recognition, basically they see something so old making more money consistently over the years when their modern dull horror flicks fail to be remembered once they're out of theaters so they create some mock-ups with the same name and cut in front of line. All these new horror remakes are BORING to their very core, the violence isn't even "XTREEEME" as they try to make it out to be, even if there is more blood than the originals (well Dawn of The Dead remake was no where near as graphic as the original on top of being moronic/annoying).
Well here's Rob Zombie's Halloween. Rob Zombie is a terrible writer and a lousy director, he belongs directing Saw movies or some straight to DVD horror flicks, this is easily the worst horror remake since The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but it might be even worse than that one. The film has vague character outlines but nothing much else, and don't say it doesn't matter because a good hour of this movie is devoted to fall-flat-on-its-face character development that is nonexistent. There is setup, location, some empty lines, and well its so amateurish, either the door is wide open for some real talent to save horror or it really is over for the genre.
The payoff at the end of the film is very cut n paste. Its no better or worse than any Halloween sequel, well its not even as good as 2 or 4. Since its a new movie the camera is constantly shaking around and there's that fake "realistic" brutality/dying/screaming acting that is so forced its just annoying. There is nothing worse in my opinion than something that believes it is truly shocking and in your face when in truth it is very plain and kind of dull. Every minute of this movie is like that down to the throwaway horror cameo characters, which are haphazard cussfests that attempt to be funny but are just, I dunno, lame. Zombie's downtrodden "everyone is stupid" modernistic attitude kills every frame of the movie, as if none of the characters he wastes over an hour on matter because MICHAEL MYERS is coming and this time he seems to be based on professional wrestler Kane or The Undertaker. Which is fitting, this is a very modern mall goth approach to story telling, and Rob Zombie is mall metal with an audience that could never hope to name the origins of horror film samples found in his music so I don't know. Michael Myers jumps out and stabs lots of people but its nothing too graphic or interesting, there's no suspense, buildup or pay off. Its just kind of there.
John Carpenter's early films were minimalist, Rob Zombie films are excessive, so its only ironic his film comes off as an empty exercise in generic slasher fare. The late 80s are back I guess.

  1. This was very enjoyable for the whole family and I was so
glad to find it on Amazon and order it....it arrived the
date promised and we are still enjoying it often...

  2. Great story, great animation, great presentation. Monster House is the type of animation that draws you in so much that it does not feel like an animated film. I am surprised they didn't attempt to make this a live action movie. Style very reminiscent of The Goonies. I love the reviews who complain the movie is "too much for those under 13"...funny, the MPAA has a rating system...it is rated PG. On the same note, the movie has some deep and creepy undertones. Again, no more so than some of the great "young adult" movies that exist. This movie is a definite recommendation. Not as fast paced as most of the animated fare out there...that's because this one actually makes you think and care about the characters. Four solid stars!

  3. This dvd was full of things not suitable for children. There were kids drinking and asking about getting a beer. Vague refrences about one child's parent having an afair. This could have been a decent movie, instead hollywood needed to make it edgy so people would think it's great. It was a disapointment.

  4. I just watched it last night. "Old man Nebbercracker"is a spooky old man - at first. Every body's got a monster house in their neighborhood!

  5. Beware of the innocent-looking cover on the DVD case. This animated movie has some pretty scary moments in it that might be too scary for younger children.

As for the story itself, DJ's parents have just went away for a few days, leaving DJ in the care of Elizabeth, or "Z" as she prefers to be called. Z is not your typical teenage girl; she's into the Goth scene and has a boyfriend named Bones. But these are the least of DJ's problems. He's more concerned about the strange man across the street who lives in a dilapidated old house. Objects are mysteriously disappearing from the front yard, and old man Nebbercracker is constantly warning kids to stay away. DJ's best friend Chowder even loses his new basketball on the lawn. What can be causing all of these strange occurances?

The answer is soon revealed as Jenny, a young girl selling candy, knocks on DJ's door. After being turned down by DJ, she goes across the street to Nebbercracker's house. But the house itself mysteriously comes to life and tries to suck Jenny in. Jenny soon joins up with DJ and Chowder to try to discover what's going on in the house. However, the police foil their attempt to get inside. They are placed in the police car to be taken away when the house comes alive and sucks the car with the children inside. Now that they have managed to get inside, will they be able to get back out again?

I found this movie to be somewhat scarier than I expected. Even though the film is animated, there are some genuinely scary parts that may not be suitable for young children. Also, there are some questionable scenes, such as Bones and Z making out a little on the sofa, and Chowder talking about drinking beer. Finally, there's the classic pee in the soda bottle scene.

Overall, I did find this movie to be pretty good. I liked the storyline of the house coming to life, and the animation is very good. However, I would just caution parents with young children to make sure that they view the movie together. My five-year-old daughter was very scared for most of the movie, and she watched it with us plus her older brother and sister. So, watch this movie with care if there are young children present.

  1. My sons ages 3 & 5 absolutely LOVE this video. It is their favorite Halloween video. They watch it every year, over and over as Halloween draws near. They think it is hilarious! The animation is good and the story line is very cute.

  2. This is a fun little Halloween story about 3 sisters that are witches. Two of the sisters are incompetent and seem to get their spells a little mixed up. The other sister is in charge and very powerful indeed. The otehr two are trying to make pumpkin pies to throw at trick or treaters when they accidentally turn their sister into a pumpkin that rolls away. They are tempted to leave her like that since she is so mean, but decide to track her down and help her. In the meantime a young boy finds the withc-pumpkin and thinks she is a battery operated talking pumpkin and used her as the centerpiece for his Halloween party. In this story a witch needs her hands to do a spell so she can't save herself and now needs her sisters.

All in all a good story for the holiday, very funny, and no scary moments for smaller kids. Lots of laughs for the older ones, cute characters, good jokes and sight gags. I reccommend.

  3. This is a cute story for the under 6 crowd. It's only a 30 minute cartoon (it does come with a CD of spooky sounds), so I think the price is a little steep. I got it at Sam's for just under $9, which I also think is a lot for such a short DVD, but, my son (age 4) enjoys it.

1 comments about Eloise's Rawther Unusual Halloween.
  1. ELOISE'S RAWTHER UNUSUAL HALLOWEEN is a fun feature film-cartoon starring the 6-year-old princess of NYC's Plaza hotel--Eloise.

The movie begins with a legend of "Diamond Jim Johnson" whose ghost is said to haunt the Plaza every Halloween. Well the legend comes true and it's up to Eloise and her friends to solve the mystery. Is it a ghost or is it something else that's causing all the strange goings on at the Plaza?

Anyway, I'm not familiar with the Eloise stories but this cartoon was fun to watch...although the drawings reminded me of the Beavis and Butt-head - The Mike Judge Collection, Vol. 1 cartoons.

There are plenty of star voices like Lynn Redgrave, Tim Curry, Brad Garrett and Jim Belushi who bring this story to life.

And the DVD provides plenty of "easter eggs" (like in the elevator at the main menu you can choose some of the floor numbers for a hidden surprise) and there's a bonus segment called "plaza pals" which allows you to find out more about the characters. And there are trailers for other "Eloise" DVDs.

The kids should love it and it's great to add to the vault for Halloween classics.

5 comments about Little Bear - Halloween Stories.
  1. My 3 1/2 yr old just loves Little Bear and as a mother I do too. Little Bear is one of the few cartoons for children that I do NOT have to screen first. There is nothing in the content that I find objectionable.

  2. Great DVD! My son could watch it over and over again for hours if I'd let him.

  3. I love the Little Bear Stories. There are quite a few episodes in addition to the Halloween stories and they are easily accessible from the DVD menu.

The Little Bear series is classy, low-key, and friendly and teaches lessons without smacking you in the face with them. It is relaxing and I believe it fosters the imagination. I'm not great at watching the kids shows but Little Bear actually entertains me and it's easy to fall in love with all the main characters (Little Bear, Mother Bear, Father Bear, Duck, Owl, Cat, Lucy, etc.).

You can't go wrong with Little Bear.

  4. very sweet little video, but my 3 year old found it a little scary...wouldn't get it again

  5. My 3.5 year old daughter loves Halloween and Little Bear so getting this DVD was a no-brainer. The DVD contains 12 stories in all, and at 10 mins each, they are a quick watch and play one after the other [i usually hit the next button to get to the following episode]. The episodes are: Goblin Night, Moonlight Serenade, How to Scare Ghosts, Thunder Monster, Under the Covers, The Campfire Tale, Night of the Full Moon, Up All Night, Little Sherlock Bear, Duck Loses Her Quack, Exploring, and Detective Little Bear.

Little Bear and his friends - Owl, Duck, Cat, etc are lovable and cute - the stories are engaging and make for fun viewing for little ones.

5 comments about Dora the Explorer - Dora's Halloween.
  1. Halloween, Halloween, Trick or Treat!! Cute songs and non scary Halloween fun for young children!
The added bonus of Dora's usual vocabulary lesson is always great. My 19 month old woke up after watching this all week around Halloween and said "open"..."abrae" (open in Spanish, sorry, I don't know if I'm spelling this correctly!). How cool is that?!
Dora is great and this is a wonderful DVD to get in the Halloween spirit without getting scared :)

  2. My three year old took it to day care on Halloween and all of them LOVED it!

  3. This disc contains four episodes: Dora's Halloween, The Missing Piece, The Big Storm, and Monkey Bars. Only one is related to Halloween, but I think the creators threw in The Missing Piece because it has a wizard, and The Big Storm because it's got a thunderstorm in it. So, only one episode is about Halloween, but it's one of the better Halloween shows for pre-schoolers. My 4-year old watched this last year and still watches it now. The "little monster" is not scary, and the costumes of all the Dora characters are really cute.

  4. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE ITEM PURCHASED. IT ARRIVED LONG BEFORE ESTIMATED TIME AND WAS IN GREAT SHAPE, JUST AS ADVERTISED BY SELLER. I WOULD GIVE THIS SELLER AND PRODUCT AND A+. THANK YOU SO MUCH. JODI

  5. Dora and Boots have an exciting adventure in this video. It is too funny as the mother to enjoy this video maybe even more than my child. The outfits are great and the songs are very catchy. A must watch!

5 comments about Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.
  1. This is a guilty pleasure, I absolutely love this movie! It is funny and absolutely pure fluff but around Halloween there's nothing better than curling up on the sofa, having some popcorn and watching this movie! Elvira is a great character, thank you Cassandra Peterson!

  2. I don't care how old she is....Elvira is hott.Though this isn't the greatest movie ever made is is certainly not the worst. It's a funny flick that laughs at itself. But the star of the show is all that matters. She is gorgeously hott and extremely easy on the eyes.Obviously,I recommend this movie.

  3. Elvira does a nice job of romping through this comedy based on her TV character. She heads out to find out her portion of an inheritance and finds a disgruntled Uncle wants her Aunt's cookbook, not Elvira's assets. He must be a Eunick. While the town finds Elvira to be a grotesque floozy, the kids think she's cool. Elvira abiding by her own methods sets out to get money for the Las Vegas act by selling cookbook, house, dog, and anything eles not nailed down. Naturally along the way she begins to appreciate the value of them and is almost burned at the stake as well. Many funny skits. One of my favorites is her dream about her inheritance being like a TV game show with prizes offered in the same manner. I recommend it, especially to any Elvira fan. Most the humor is geared towards adults, but I found myself amused in a Jim Varney sort of way throughout the movie.

  4. As expected, Elvira was her entertaining, cheesy self and exactly what I needed. It's silly, clever and fun all rolled into one and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a video to take your mind off life's troubles.

  5. I've always love Cassandra Peterson, aka Elvira Mistress of the Dark. I just love the camp aspect of her, but also that she is strong and you know even though she maybe battle warlocks or the town mob, she's always going to come out on top, and if you've seen the movie that one will make you giggle a little bit, and can we say OMG for BOB in that movie, He doesn't say much but he doesn't have too...

5 comments about SpongeBob SquarePants - Halloween.
  1. Nice collections of "SpongeBob" material, though I suggest moving to the seasonal boxed sets instead.

  2. This SpongeBob SquarePants DVD has to to be the best one yet! it has a lot of funny episodes from different seasons of the television series. It's really original and the episodes are just good! It's a good collection of 10 episodes and it has over 90 minutes of fun. The special features aren't the best ever because they could have added more, but it's the episodes themselves why you should purchase this item. Below is the list of episodes this DVD contains and the grade I give them.

    1) Scaredy Pants (Halloween episode) = A
    2) Imitation Krabs = A+
    3) Frankendoodle = A++ (funny!)
    4) I Was A Teenage Gary = A
    5) Squidward, the Unfriendly Ghost = A+
    6) The Secret Box = A+
    7) Band Geeks = A
    8) Welcome to Chum Bucket = A+
    9) My Pretty Seahorse = A
    10) Idiot Box = A+

Trust me, you won't be sorry. Go SpongeBob!

  3. my child loves this little guy. I can buy anything SpongeBob and not go wrong.

  4. Spongebob is an icon! Spongebob and Patrick, what a combination!!
You cant go wrong with Spongebob!

  5. I find my husband and son watching this all the time. I mainly bought it for our son but my husband loves it just as much. It's great to add to our holiday collection of movies. Can't have too many halloween movies, especially for the whole family to enjoy.

5 comments about The Haunted History of Halloween (History Channel) (A&E DVD Archives).
  1. The History Channel has always put out some great programs and i think this one was truly the most interesting and informative out of them all on holidays in the USA. Even though, they dont show this very often on History Channel (or any other "Haunted History"), its very rare that you will see it, maybe every now and then, but, not all the time as most reviewers would suggest..just so you know. I would buy this, not just for the information of the History, but, for the rare viewing that it gets. Highly Recommended!

  2. Take one part nostalgia and one part history and you get this fantastic DVD. I rented this one on a whim and fell in love. It may not do the same for you- but it perfectly captures the nostalgia of the americanized version of halloween that so many of us love.

But rather than stopping short at being a love letter to October 31st- this documentary is an outstanding starting point for those wanting to learn more about the long and amazing history of the holiday through it's many incarnations. This one doesn't try to be an exhaustive resource- but rather act as a primer and a broad overview.

You will get a background on some of our popular traditions in modern halloween, as well as learn about the miraculous life (and many near deaths) of All Hallow's Eve.

There are a few good laughs, lots of information, and all in a nice easy to digest package. If you enjoy Halloween at all- you can't miss with this one.

In fact- this is one of my dvds i watch when i need a little halloween spirit :)

Well worth the money and time spent.

  3. Excellent DVD with lots of information. Great to watch with like-minded friends just before Samhain to help remember what it is all about - not just trick-or-treaters! Raven Moon HPS Coven of Corvus Moon

  4. If you love history and HALLOWEEN, then this is the treat for you. You see how HALLOWEEN began 3,000 years ago, why we carve pumpkins, why children wear costumes and trick-or-treat, how ghost stories started, etc. It shows how HALLOWEEN looked during the 40's and 50's! (Which is one of my favorite parts!) They even talk about the film, HALLOWEEN. They also show news archives about razor blades in apples, and Devil's Night. I love the HALLOWEEN decorations that they show later in the movie. I highly recommend this HALLOWEEN treat if you love the holiday! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

  5. I bought this DVD for myself because I wanted to be able to view it every Halloween. It's just a fun seasonal product. Have some Halloween decorations out, fix a hot toddy, put on some spooky music beforehand to set the mood, pop some popcorn and fix caramel apples, invite the neighbors over and watch this fun, cute documentary. Maybe follow up with a scary movie like 1408.
