  1. This movie is one of the worst ones I have ever watched. The only reason I watched it the whole way through was because my mom bought it for me at my request and I would have felt guilty if I hadn't. This movie had the worst effects I have ever seen - even a 1920's movie would be better than this! The plot - horrible/stupid/idiotic! The acting itself was much to be desired. To sum up - don't waste your money - buy a real movie instead!

  2. I was given this movie originally from a friend to borrow for my 3 yr. old daughter and she fell in love with it and I had to buy one for her. It' an enjoyable, simple, 1980's era movie with Charlotte Ray and Tim Curry of all people and it was very tolerable over the 100 or more times we watched it with my daughter over the course of a week. Reminds me of a Harry Potter movie but with all Girls!

  3. Kind of cute and funny but expected a little more. I really love the actors and actresses in this film though.

  4. The product was exactly what I was expecting but I was supposed to get free shipping and I was charged for the shipping

  5. thanks for the dvd i got it fast it is a good movie i will get more

  1. Old movie but the grafics are good. Scary, has demons in it but not the corny type.

  2. I really enjoyed this movie. It was fun and well made. It moved nice and fast and the plot was very good. The acting wasn't too bad and the special effects were pretty decent. It's certainly worth the 10.00 price tag for a good movie night with friends. Trust me, you'll never look at lipstick the same again, LOL!

  3. I thought the movie was pretty dull. I actually liked Night of the Demons 2 better. I first saw this movie when i was like 9 yrs old, it was pretty scary then. Now that i am a grown up it was pretty stupid. This movie worked fine during the 80's but not now. they are better scary movies that this one.

  4. I thought it was great when I was a kid, so i recently purchased this film hoping for the same affect! Needless to say, it didn't happen. The acting was cheesey and it was painful to sit through.

  5. Yes,I had this movie on tape when I was younger,I havent seen it in awhile, but from what I remember it was REALLY SCARY,yeah moms dont even like me mentioning this movie...if you havent already seen it just sit back...at night and watch,DONT WATCH ALONE...horror movies should be watched at night thats how I like it.

  1. I love this movie and so when i had the chance to get it in HD for dirt cheap i took the time to get it. The HD version is chrisp and clear and the sound is very sharp. Get this movie as it should be a must for anyone who collects HD DVDs :D

  2. I am not gong to review the movie as everyone has seen it and I only bought it for the HD-DVD aspect.

Like a lot of older re-released high def movies, the studio did not take extra steps on the re-release to take advantage of the greater capability of HD-DVD. The result is that neither the visuals nor the sound knock your socks off like the do in a full-on HD-DVD release. If you have the DVD version, no need to upgrade. If you don't and want the movie, you might as well get the HD release, but buy it used for less than $15 (delivered)...or just get a used DVD for $5.

  3. HD makes this movie so much better. It was good before but HD makes its better

  4. Based on the true story of the ill-fated last voyage of the Andrea Gail which sailed out of Gloucester, Mass in '91 off into the North Atlantic only to fall victim to the "Storm of the Century". The '00 film `Perfect Storm' depicts the tragic event in dramatic style featuring a strong, likeable cast, superior special effects and a memorable soundtrack. If there's any fault to be found in this re-visioning of the last days of the Andrea Gail is would be the overly romanticized manner in which the crew is depicted. At times it was kind of like watching `The Magnificent Seven At Sea'.

Rating: Overall `Perfect Storm' is an enjoyable watch with lots of familiar faces and fine performances; -3 ½ Stars-.

  5. Stick to the book or try the film on a large screen when you want something noisy and active. The main scenes during the storm with Ahab's (Clooney's) boat had quite well-done effects and a zillion gallons of water, as you would expect, but they felt to me more like an extended car chase, where lots is happening while also not much is happening.

The fine cast did not get much chance to develop, except for some spark from Clooney and Wahlberg and a few spots here and there. Otherwise some talent is wasted on stock roles such as Diane Lane's. At least an almost gaunt-looking Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio was a ship captain herself, and not some homebody.

The prelude to going to sea did not allow for much character development, which is ok, given that the movie is "The Perfect Storm" and not the drama of human interaction. However, that meant nothing of particular interest, either. The setup for Bugsy and Irene was unusual and almost embarrassing.

I liked getting an idea what a sword boat looked like, how it operated, what they did with the fish, etc. Some more of that would have gone over well with me. The conflict between Murph and Sully seemed artificial and added little.

It's probably not a good sign when the other rescue scene got me wondering about my tax dollars at work. Do we really send sophisticated, expensive forces into hurricanes to rescue dummies, risking others, Private Ryan style? You better "earn this", people.

5 comments about Monster House (Fullscreen).
  1. when before there used to be just disney films, recent technological developments gave the opportunity for animated movie producers to release several animated films in a year that you almost cannot keep track anymore. some of them, sadly, became mere exercises in digital graphics, mostly marketing the film through the famous hollywood actors who record the characters' voices. i've stopped looking forward to new animated flicks of late, including monster house that i passed up when it was shown in theaters.

but unlike other animated films (mostly with talking animals) that even failed to capture my attention when shown on the small screen, monster house was unlike anything i've seen before.

the plot is typical - three prepubescent youngsters try to "kill" an evil house from eating halloween trick-or-treaters. but the typical ends there. the movie is filled with witty dialog and three-dimensional characters in a setting that has both its light and dark moments. there are no cookie-cutter characters here - well, maybe the protagonists were cut off from the same mold as your average middle class suburban kids, but they were portrayed so naturally as far as movie tweeners go, bringing in an added sprinkling of spice in them. the frontline bad guy nebbercracker was the typical grumpy recluse who drives away kids from his front lawn, but later in the film reveals a rich story that centers on the plot.

everyone else in between was there to bring in the token comic relief - the goth babysitter, her rocker boyfriend, the video game dork, the police officers - all in a naturally amusing manner that was never contrived.

i was aghast learning from imdb.com that ours is the only country where this movie had a G rating. for instance, there was a minor scene where rocker boyfriend attempted to make out with babysitter on the sofa. and while the main characters seemed generally well-adjusted, the story behind the house seemed too dark for young kids. the house looked really scary, for one. even scarier than the creatures in jumanji, which had a PG rating. the film also explores adult issues, complicated grey areas like what to do if your loved one became an evil vengeful spirit, or moral questions such as "does this movie unintentionally portray obese people as evil/scary?" that can get ingrained on impressionable minds. while the themes of unconditional love, devotion and letting go can be for all ages, it was shown so poignantly in the movie with adult sensibilities.

well, i don't know. i watched this movie as an adult and enjoyed it very much. it lacked the air of happy-ever-after that most children's flicks are known for, but at least for the kids, the movie ended up happily. that is, for the neighborhood, not exactly for nebbercracker who, though seemingly happy himself for his newfound freedom, would naturally have to deal with his grief and maybe regret not being able to live his life for 40 years (plus, where would he live now?). to balance off these complications, the last part where all the toys were returned and all the people who were eaten up managed to climb out of the pit was a nice touch. definitely for the young ones' benefit.

memorable quote from the supporting character skull (the videogame enthusiast), attempting to impart some words of wisdom:
"In my travels to video game and comic book conventions, I've seen many strange and wondrous things".

  2. This movie is hilarious! The idea for this animated/horror/comedy/kids kick butt film was good, and then it's execution makes it a knockout. First of all, the way the boys act around the girl is SO FUNNY! ("DJ! You pee in bottles?!?")

I was laughing throughout the whole movie, from the beginning to the end, when they enter the house with a large arsenal of...water guns.

We need more movies like this!

    Four and a half stars!

  3. Good product, great prices, speedy delivery. I'm completely satisfied as is my son who loves his DVD.

  4. This is a fun, spooky movie for kids but us adults enjoyed it too. The effects are really neat, the things the house does. I found some good humor in it as well. I may not watch it 10 times, but most kids will.

  5. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Spooky scary. Probably too much so for kids under 11. Highly recommend.

  1. This movie should be included in everyone's collection. In mine it has a place in the Halloween section since I love the holiday so much. It is perfect for kids and the whole family to watch.

  2. How can ANYBODY call this a family film??? Language (bi***), father in a drunken stupor, attempted murder, and an overall poor story. Thank the gods I checked this out at the library and didnt pay money for this thing. Definitely not for my family, anyway. Read a good book together.

  3. We got this a month ago for Halloween because our 4 year old really wanted it. We've enjoyed it as a family, decent rendition of classic Casper story, with a great cast. There are definitely parts that are a bit too scary for our 4 yr old, though. She wants to see it but is scares her and gives her occasional nightmares, so we've shelved it for awhile.
Effects are good, plot is a bit plodding and comedy is very broad, but the kids don't mind that. Casper coming alive at the end is better than you'd think, Cristina Ricci is fun and likeable, cameos are great.
A good family film for over 5's to perhaps tweens.

  4. This show should be considered classic. Really love this show as it bring back fond memories

5 comments about The Thing [HD DVD].
  1. This is a terrific movie with an absolutely terrific transfer. The Thing is a horror / sci-fi remake(this version was released in 1982) and as most reviewers have described it looks fantastic. Obviously if you compare it to a more modern film with digital filming and post production you will see a difference but I decided to give this film 5 stars due to the top-notch treatment that the transfer has undergone. I highly recommend this movie based on the content, special effects(1982), and the pristine picture/sound.

  2. OK movie, I thought the HD side of this movie was a bit ordinary, not much better than DVD. I wouldn't spend the extra to buy this again in HD, DVD is good enough.
    Story OK, entertainment value OK.

  3. Okay, you've read all the praise, and it's all true, this is a helluva scary movie, well-made, the effects are outstanding, and it holds up well over time.

But that's not all there is to it.

We've all seen morph effects, one critter transforming smoothly into another, we were pretty bored with them by the early 1990's. Big deal.

But this was made before cheap, cheesy CGI morphs. There's nothing smooth about these transformations. Much the opposite. What's so monstrous about this Thing, is that everything about its transformations is so WRONG. This critter has a rather nasty disregard for the rules, it doesn't care that heads aren't supposed to sprout legs and walk off on their own.

    Very imaginative special effects.

  4. My favorite Sci-Fi/Horror movie of all time, now in 1080p HD. Although some of this movies effects are starting to show their age after 24 years, it's still light years ahead of "modern" movies and Hollywood's obsession with CG.

The picture quality of this HD-DVD is really amazing, the features are the same as the standard DVD I rented a while ago but that's not a bad thing. It's just a shame that the superior format, HD-DVD, is being discontinued because Sony bribed the studios into using Blu-Ray.

  5. This story is just plain scary. It is a perfect blend of terrain, characters, and storyline. It is easy to tell when something is well done..........

5 comments about Halloween H20 - Twenty Years Later (Dimension Collector's Series).
  1. "Michael Myers" returning after a 20 year absence, was every bit worth the wait! Jamie Lee Curtis, has taken the role of Laurie Strode and made it her own, and adding in the storyline, of Josh Hartnett Playing her son, was priceless. It grabs at your heart how she is always trying to warn everyone and no one believes her. Also bringing her real life mother Janet Leigh in, was an extra bonus no one expected, but loved!!! great addition to my collection!

  2. Fans of the franchise are split on H20; some say it's the best sequel of the series that captures the style of the original and others disagree and say it's one of the weaker ones. In my opinion both of have some very valid points. Honestly I don't think this movie captured the style of the original at all. There are homage's, but paying homage doesn't make the movies in the same style. A lot of movies pay homage to other flicks, but that doesn't make them a like. H20 feels a lot more like a Scream movie rather than a Halloween movie. H20 to me is Scream guest starring Michael Myers.

One thing that a lot of people disliked is how H20 ignores 4-6, which a lot of people also were in favor of. The sequels by no means were perfect, but I personally find it a little annoying how a whole series of films were just ignored. And to be quite honest I don't think H20 was any better than 4-6. I do think it was sort of a slap in the face to those who supported the franchise over the years. H20 was made more for the Scream crowd. While the makers did try and also appeal to those like me who grew up with the series, it seems to me that a lot of the older fans like myself are the ones who normally dismiss H20 and the younger fans are much more accepting. Of course there are always exceptions to that.

The screenplay was written by Robert Zappia & Matt Greenberg, and you can clearly see the influence of Scream. Apparently executive producer Kevin Williamson did some un-credited writing and it very much shows. The dialogue is very much typical of 90s horror; it features characters who are a bit too witty in what they say and a little too smart for their own good. H20 is pretty much your typical 90s horror movie. By no means in H20 badly written it just follows the 90s horror movie format too much and really never tries to be different.

The script like I said wasn't bad, but it just doesn't fully work. The characters aren't bad, but the teenagers are the weakest link of the script. They just weren't interesting; the screenplay is at its best when it comes to the writing of the Laurie Strode character. That I thought was well written and interesting to see how Laurie is now 20-years later.

Director Steve Miner never really captures any real presence of dread and doom like the original did. The original was suspenseful from the beginning, middle to end. The same can't be said about H20 in my opinion. Honestly I thought Halloween 4 & 5 did a much better job at creating some dread and tension even the 6th I felt had more suspense actually. The problem is there are too many false set ups. So by the time anything does happen the power it might have had is pretty much gone.

I personally found the first half of H20 rather dull. Like the original Halloween after the opening we go a long stretch without a murder and the thing is in the original that worked due to the fact it was suspenseful. The stalking shots of Michael just watching and following Laurie were downright creepy. You always got that sense that something bad was gonna happen and John Carpenter held the viewers in suspense. But I never got that feeling in the first half of H20.

Steve Miner is a fairly good horror filmmaker, by no means is he one of the elite guys in the genre, but he has done some pretty good work and he's often over-looked. The problem is he really doesn't have a style of his own. His debut was Friday the 13th Part II, which I am a fan of, but all he really did was follow what Sean Cunningham did with the original; the pacing is the same and even some of the shot selections. In Friday the 13th Part III a film I like a lot, he pretty much followed what John Carpenter did with Halloween, but Miner was also able to inject his own style at times.

But with H20 what Miner does is take a little bit of what Carpenter did with Halloween and a lot of what Wes Craven did with Scream and the mixture of the two just didn't work. Miner didn't do terrible, but his scenes feel too much like a rehash of other horror movies with nothing really original to be found. Bottom line is H20 feels like every other slasher movie in the 90s, the scenes aren't bad, just feel like a rehash.

Like I said the first half for me lacked any suspense and tension so the lack of kill scenes really made it dull. To make a great horror movie you don't need to have murder after murder. Look at the original Halloween. Again that is a prime example of how to scare the audience with a low body count. Even in the other sequels as flawed as they are at least Michael was around. He was always there even if he didn't strike. The sequels may not be the most suspenseful horror movies, but at least there was an attempt at creating suspense.

Also with the false scares done so much by the time Michael does finally show up the movie loses a little bit of steam. The 2nd half though Miner fairs a bit better and is able to deliver some decent suspense. Of all the Halloween sequels, Steve Miner had the most experience at the time and had some experience is the slasher film, but I feel as if he was the wrong choice. I do like some of his work, but his vision for Halloween in my opinion just didn't work.

While I didn't hate H20 I can honestly say it's probably my least favorite of the series. There was potential here, but it was just off in my opinion. For me the movie never rises above being average at best. H20 is very much a product of it's time like I said it follows the standard 90s slasher movie format, I suppose one can say the sequels back in the 80s followed the format of an 80s slasher, which is true. But something about those I feel worked better. H20 was made by a Hollywood studio and it very much shows.

Though H20 wasn't a total letdown for me; I loved Jamie Lee Curtis in this movie and if not for her I probably would rate this movie lower. This is one of her finest performances. It was interesting seeing how the character has changed and H20 works best when she is the main focus. The teen characters just didn't interest me; I found them rather boring. The Laurie Strode character is about the only thing that works well and that is the main reason fans have responded to this. As great as Jamie Lee was the rest of the movie was just too average for her to really save.

H20 is the first Halloween movie without Donald Pleasence (of course not counting Halloween III). It was weird not seeing Pleasence as Dr. Loomis hunting Michael down. Sadly by this time Donald Pleasence had already passed away. As much as I love Jamie Lee and as much as I love the character, I think Pleasence was the heart and soul of this series and it just isn't the same without him.

While I do understand why so many fans responded so well to this movie, H20 though in the end does very little for me. I found it mostly dull with a few good scenes, but when all is said and done I was quite bored for the most part. I was able to tolerate H20, but I have found myself liking less and less over the years. I was never really a big fan of the movie to begin with even when it was first released, but over the years I seem to lose more and more patience with this one. Jamie Lee Curtis is the only saving grace.

The main reason for my 3-star rating even though this is more of a two star, is I rated some movies with 3-stars that I like less than H20. Also the 3-star rating is mostly for Jamie Lee. H20 isn't a terrible movie, but it's mostly lackluster.

  3. This was a strange move by Dimension, who had picked up the "Halloween" franchise. The first Dimension "Halloween", part 6 "The Curse Of Michael Myers", was a great film - before the last third was reshot due to the postfilming death of Donald Pleasance. In order to keep the series going, they needed a new ending, which almost destroyed the movie. Then they came out with this one, which bizarrely ignores everything that had happened in parts 4, 5 and their own 6 (in fact I believe "H20" also pretty much threw out part 2, but I'm not certain about it). And...why? To...accomplish what? I have no idea why Dimension, usually a first-rate company, would just give the middle finger to not only "Halloween" fans but also the artists who contributed to the series. Makes no sense.
Well, it may have been forgivable had "H20" been a great film. But it wasn't even a good film, and the much hyped return of Jamie Lee Curtis didn't amount to anything more than that, hype. "H20" is a mess of a movie, a standard glossy Hollywood shocker in that already dated "Scream" mold. There's a bunch of young actors and actresses doing absolutely nothing, and there's so many of those "fake scares" - I believe about 287 of 'em - that it simply becomes annoying in the extreme. "H20" is not only not scary, it's boring and irritating.
Most of the longtime "Halloween" fans don't consider "H20" or it's equally crappy followup "Halloween: Resurrection" to be canonical entries in the series; by ignoring the Myers mythology, what other conclusion can be drawn? And say what you will about Zombie's remake; at least it is a good, disturbing little flick. But "H20" and "Resurrection" are just terrible commercial products designed to make a quick buck.
    Avoid.

  4. I like this movie. Not the best one done of course, but it is passable.

  5. Now THAT'S more like it!!!
After four horrendous sequels that made ZERO sense, Hollywood brings back Jamie Lee, pretends that parts 3 - 6 never happened and makes the best Halloween since part 2.
A brilliant continuation of the story line.
Expertly directed, superb acting, a great cast, even with Josh and his pillow fight hair.
    LL rocks in this movie.
Start to finish a film FINALLY worthy of the Halloween name.
One again it should have ended after this but Hollyweird saw $$$ again, and we had to sit through the so so part 8.
    This film however???
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5 comments about The Addams Family / Addams Family Values.
  1. (This is a one disk set with both movies on the same disk). The movies are great, but the only thing that bothered me is, they are not in wide-screen format as promised in the advertisements. It even says it's supposed to be wide screen on the disk itself, but its not. But the movies are the same great movies...just have to get over the full-screen formatting.

The original Addams family movie is the return of Uncle Fester who lost at sea in the bermuda triangle and finds his way home with amnesia. Though the Addams are finally reunited they are separated again with the help of a greedy real-estate agent, lone shark, and less then friendly Judge. Forced out of the comfort of their mansion the Addams must learn to live with the outside world until Fester starts to remember life with his family and they band together to fight to get everything they had back to the way it was. Every Cast Member plays their roll wonderfully enough to make you forget they're not the original cast members to the TV show.

The Addams Family Values is a sequel to the first movie with the original cast members (family members anyway...new evil characters are introduced). It starts off with Mortisha giving birth to a baby boy. With the new baby in the house Mortisha and Gomes decide to hire a nanny (Joan Cusack) who turns out to be a demented murder that agrees to marry Fester and tries to tear him apart from his family to steal the Addams Family fortune.

  2. ~The Addams Family~
i would only rate this one 3 stars. Although the acting was great, the story's plot was weak. Fester Addams, having disappeared a long time ago, has returned to the Addams Family. Only it isn't really Fester Addams, it's an impostor trying to steal the Addams' fortune for his Mother. Well I won't go into too much detail because i'm sure you'll find a better description elsewhere, but basically the ending is very predictable and the outcome seems a bit lame. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed this movie and like to watch it every once in a while, but i think the Addams Family Values is better.
    ~The Addams Family Values~
The acting is just as good as it was in the Addams Family, but the storyline is a bit better. It's centered around Fester Addams again, which honestly i would prefer it not to be. Fester is by no means my favorite character, but thankfully Wednesday and Pugsley are also a center of attention here. After Morticia has her baby, Pubert(lmao), they hire a babysitter. the first few don't work out so well, but finally they find Debbie(Joan Cussack), a gold digger interested in Fester. Debbie convinces Morticia and Gomez that Wednesday and Pugsley want to go to summer camp, so that's where the two of them are for most of the movie, though we get to see them plenty. Wednesday finds her own little romance though, with another outcast (who's allergic to almost everything, so he says). It's very cute.
So anyway, I'd rate this 2-in-1 set 4 stars. By the way, i found this same set at Wal-Mart for only 9 dollars... I'm not a big walmart fan, but you might want to look there for this set before buying it here if you can.

  3. Two fine movies.
The children's play at camp is one of the funniest things I've seen.

  4. the adams family is all right but the adams family values is lame painful to watch and not suitible for children

  5. Great actors expecially the late Raul Julia. You get both movies in one set at an even better price. Once you see these movies you will add them to your favorties.

  2. I purchased this DVD set for a friend of mine who is into the hauntings, vampires, etc. She thought it was the neatest gift that anyone has ever given her! She loved all of the videos and claims they were very interesting and scary in some of them. Definitely worth the money!

  3. I love when the History Channel begins airing its stable of paranormal shows heavily around Halloween. This is a great bargain for five DVDs. "Vampire Secrets" is the excellent 2-hour program from 2006 (100 minutes), while the other four are hour long shows (50 minutes). This is worth it just for "Vampire Secrets" and "The Haunted History of Halloween." Either one of these two DVDs purchased separately cost as much as this entire set. The others in this series are quite good too...they include slightly older shows from the mid 90's about poltergeists, hauntings, etc. Some of which I don't remember seeing before. For the price, it is well worth it!

  4. This is a great addition for any paranormal collection. I especially enjoyed the "The Haunted History of Halloween" and " Salem Witch Trials" from the History Channel. If you like to know the history end these 2 are for you. From Vampires to Hauntings this collection has it all. I give it an A++.

  5. I stumbled upon this dvd collection while looking for a present for my mom on mothers day. she is into that sort of thing and she really seemed to like it. i thought it was a great buy. i got it from another seller besides amazon and saved a lot of money. i have not seen the dvds YET but if my mom likes it, it must be good.

5 comments about Cowboy Bebop - The Movie.
  1. After renting this (I was so glad I didn't buy it) I thought: "Nan-dai?!" This movie smelled like a bloated episode, and the ending of an invincible villain who finally became "vincible" was way too slick for me. Yeah, it had an assortment of characters, but they didn't relate to each other, and they all seemed to be "free agents" out to make a quick buck. It just seemed determined to mix as many themes as possible: Middle Eastern; Western; babes; Blade Runner; etc. Barf, barf,
Give me Fifth Element any day.

  2. Some people might get it and some people won't, which by the way has an official title (Knockin' on Heaven's Door). This movie definitely caters to a certain sophisticated kind of science fiction. In a way I think the movie is a bit imbalanced in regards to settings and soundtrack, but the story is rock solid. Keep in mind this is anime and this movie is done in a very Japanese way. Cinematic Japanese techniques I mean... not your standard anime clichés.

What I mean by Japanese cinema is certain things are done to draw you in the movie like for instance scenes having a lack of any background music when you would usually hear some or more attention to details such as day-to-day life. These techniques really help draw you in the world the movie sets out to create. American films are sorely lacking in these kinds of theater experiences. Fortunately Cowboy Bebop isn't. It's not an action movie, but when the few action scenes do come on get ready to be blown away.

You are really drawn into the settings. I really like that in a movie. The only problem is the Bebop universe is a bit dual natured... a little too dual natured for my tastes. You start the movie flying in from space with some really whiz tech and everything. Then when you hit the planet everything is as if you're in almost modern-day time. Pretty much the only time you see anything sci-fi looking is when the airplanes come out, which by the way is not only cool ships but some of the most exciting scenes in the movie.

I have to tilt my head in confusion over the soundtrack. The first part of the movie has some trendy rock music going, which isn't all that impressive for the movie if you ask me. It just didn't fit right. However there are scenes that have your classic Bebop frenzied jazz. Now that's a better fit!

I can't really say this movie is just for the Cowboy Bebop fan, as it seems to have enough background information to keep the new viewers from being left out. If you like being drawn into a movie, with all of its sights and sounds, then you find such a movie here. If you action buffs and be patient enough the movie will aim to please you too. I will admit this movie is not for every sci-fi fan, but it's worth watching for the experience.

  3. I had heard about this from a friend and really enjoyed the animation and the story.

  4. Just like the series, this is a very stylish movie. The action is good and the story is just as good.

If you have never watched the series you will still enjoy this movie, but as with all movie lead offs, you will enjoy the characters that much more if you have watched the series.

The music is great. I actually want the soundtrack for this movie.

Definitely a fun ride. Get the popcorn out and sit with some friends to enjoy this one.

  5. A spacecraft making a crash landing on a highway bridge, a taxi screeching to a stop and the pilot jumping out to say, "Yo, taxi!" symbolizes the situation humor in Cowboy Bebop. This movie, "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" (as titled in Japan) is set between episodes 22 and 23 of the TV series.

Bebop is the animated tale of 27-year-old Spike Spiegel, a slick Martial Artist and shooting ace estranged from the mafia, and his comrades: Jet Black, a 36-year-old former cop, Faye Valentine, a 23-year-old gambler on the run from her debts, Edward, a 13-year-old girl hacking genius, and Ein, a Welsh Corgi dog that was given above-average intelligence in lab experiments.

The setting of the movie is Mars in the year 2071. Mars, along with the other planets in the solar system, has been terra-formed into an Earth-like planet after a cosmic accident forced a mass emigration from Earth to other planets in the system. Smoking, Jazz and Cup Ramen still exist, while space travel blurs the distinction between living in space and living planet-side.

This ragtag bunch of "cowboys," or bounty hunters, travel the solar system in a spacecraft carrier ship, the Bebop, taking on often near-fatal missions to locate and apprehend dangerous "bounty heads" as they struggle to stay fed and keep their ships in good repair.

The antagonist, a former subject of military experiments which they all seek to find and stop, is bent on the destruction of human life on Mars through a nanovirus plague. A test vaccine made him immune, but also gave him amnesia and dreamlike hallucinations.

In Bebop, story and music are always linked. The movie is named after Bob Dylan's song. Yoko Kanno, a prolific composer of game and anime music, wrote the soundtrack for both the TV series and the movie. The TV series is mostly set to bebop, while the movie takes a rock beat.

Anime, the style of animation that director Watanabe Shinichirou chose for both the TV series and movie, is made up of stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence and sex. Some may say this is "just a cartoon," but with the violence, dirty words and bad habits of the characters, this is definitely not a cartoon for kids. For the mature viewer, intelligence put into the script, imagination into the art and virtuosity set to playing the music, transforms that classification into, to borrow a line, "a new genre itself."
