- This is a such a creative and different take on the idea of Halloween. You have your typical bully with a witch, skeleton, monster, vampires, and a werewolf to help set the mood. That is where the normal idea of Halloween ends because then this delightful story twists any sort of typical Halloween ideal and sends it off in a whole new fun direction. Jimmy is the older cousin who doesn't feel like being saddled with is younger cousin Hannah on Halloween. With three friends he decides to send his younger cousin screaming home by sending her into the Spook House. Before the night is over Hannah learns that monsters aren't necessarily the ones who look like them. Jimmy will learn a lesson as well and all of this is picked up in the second movie. The whole thing is fun romp that should be enjoyable for people of all ages. Anyone familiar with Jill Thompson's work is going to love this!
- My 4 year old son LOVED this movie. I think it's easily the most creative kid's film I've seen. It's lots of fun and I highly reccomend it. It's even got some fun little touches for adults such as a wolf in sheep's clothing and a skeleton in the closet. ;)
- I went on a search for this movie as well as its sequal after my 3 yr old daughter watched them last year during the ABC family 13 days of Halloween. I originally DVR or TiVo the movies. I ended up watching those movies over and over again until I had to erase them in December to make room for the christmas theme movies. The movie is a cute halloween movie that can be enjoyed as a family. There is a cute plot in which the movie can be used as a learning lesson for children. It was a relief to find a movie that is kid friendly and my children can watch.
- Our daughter is not scared of anything, and she just loves these Scary Godmother movies. We bought both of them, because she wanted to watch them everyday and I accidentally deleted one from out DVR!!! Oh NO! She likes that the kids get over being scared of the "monsters" because they are fun and friendly monsters. Just like Monsters Inc. it helps kids realize that things aren't always as they seem! The CG images are terrific and the storyline is cute and nothing a mom should worry about. There aren't a lot of kid-friendly Halloween shows, but this one is okay for even the little ones. The mean kid in the end learns his lesson!
- The link says " by Britney Irvin, not sure why, she didn't write this, Jill Thompson did, a great comic book artist who just happens to be kid friendly. Britney Irvin was the little kid who played Hanna Marie and she is really cute. Highlights in this are Scot Macneil's skeleton in the closet and my very great favorite Gary Chalk's highly educated always starving werewolf. And Tabitha St. Germain who voices Scary Godmother, is one of the finest weird people in the world. If phsyics would allow it, I'd want her to be my godmother. The animation is great.
good solid 7-10 year old halloween fun

- Every once in a while they manage to film a really good Ghost Story and they have done it with this movie. The viewer is introduced to Allan, a College kids back in the 1970's who is hitchiking to Lewiston in Maine to visit his ill mother. Allan is confronted by the ghosts of his past and present during his long lonely walk to the hospital. This movie is dark, eerie and very atmospheric and this is one film which I would have liked to have watched on the big screen. The extra feature included in this DVD is Allan's sketch book which is alone makes this movie worth watching. Bravo to all concerned with the making of this film.
- i also love every adaptation of kings books even storm of the century & rose red was cheezy but had good acting & was semi scary. this started out really good & like the others. once he begins his journey its over from their, first you find out that he is a supper wimp that tries to act cool, a character that is saposed to not be the main charcter unless a comedy, he is afraid of even an old weak man. david arquete cant act his way out of nut sack, so theirs no saprise that this is his worst movie ever. they try to play every sceen with at lease 3 ways that the situation could happen in his head but dosent come true, that is a great use of showing horror or scary elements that dont happen but thats the whole movie, no one really dies except he has a vision of his dad blowing his head off but just shows the wall splatter, but hese already dead before the movie starts & his mother at the end but she died of lung cancer, he dosent even really get hurt although he gets fakly attacked several times. the end of the movie will possibly make you throw up its so bad, they try to monolague the rest of his life that ends making him look even more pathetic than he was throught the movie, which is a lot more trust me or watch for your self. i have no idea how this got an r rating due to no severed parts, light swearing, no nudity, & the only part that i could say is his dad blows his head off but ive sceen worst in pg-13. they must have begged to get the ratting because i wont watch those sad pathetic pg-13's unless just cause. im not sure what the rest of you saw giving this 4 & 5 stars. yall must love the cry wolf & all the pg-13 horror garbage, so if thats your style this movis is ripe for your picking.
- Its kind off like Stephen king meets Twilight Zone. Dont get me wrong both are brilliant but i appreciate King as more of an "Epic" 3 hour mini-series kind of storyteller and not the hitchcock short story kind of guy.
It really feels like you have just watched a short story from Twilight zone at the end of the day. The character development and storyline is just too limited to be worth the 2 hours.
If it was one of 3 stories on a ("twilight zone like") compilation and only an hour or so in length, it would have been 5 stars!
If you want an epic tale by King (like Rose Red, Storm of the centuary, the Shining) rather look for something else because this will dissapoint you.
(Please forgive me Mr. King)
- Once again Mick Garris is at the helm of another Stephen King adaptation. Garris has made many King movies(if it's a mini series or tv movie, you can bet it was most likely Garris), and while his contributions aren't as memorable as efforts by other directors, Garris tries his damndest to stick as close to the source material as possible. Plus he is one of the most active and dedicated individuals in the horror scene, and for that I respect him quite a bit. But I can't honestly say he made a great movie here. Not bad, but nothing worth a second viewing. Much more plot has been added to the story in order to fill out the 90+ minute running time. A story like this(which if I recall was around 50 pages, give or take) should have been done as one of Garris' Masters Of Horror episodes rather than a full length movie. But when Garris is on, he's on. Alot of the dialogue is straight from the story. A big problem with this movie is Garris' repeated use of the daydream gimmick. You know those scenes in film when something happens to a character(usually horrific and outrageous), then the scene quickly flashes back to the character before the horrific event and you realize that it was all in the character's imagination? This movie is full of these. In fact, it may actually have set a record for uses of this movie trick. It seems to happen at least once every two minutes and quickly becomes silly and then downright annoying. Plus we add a bunch of hallucinations and the main character continuously talking to himself(two of the same actor onscreen at once) and it dulls the suspense and seems like a desperate attempt at being flashy. Plus, the film takes place in 1969, but every now and then we get a blast of very modern sounding music. Personally I can't stand anachronistic music in a film that's supposed to be taking place in a different time period. But even with all of my yapping and whining, Garris managed to pull off another passably entertaining and fairly accurate King adaptation. Just not a terrible memorable one.
- I've never seen a horror movie with a plot like this before. It's absolutely original. The first half of the movie is engaging. Some frightening and suspenseful scenes happened while he's walking on the street at night. For example, the moment when he was chased into a car cemetery by two strangers.
The second half is boring and repetitive. The worst thing is it turned out they all came from his own imagination!
It's worth watching once.

- This is a fantastic dvd for a party atmosphere. Sound effects are great and the pumpkins are very humerous. I love it and can't wait to start the party off right! This is not a dvd to sit down and watch from start to finish, more for use as party atmosphere.

3 comments about Halloween [UMD for PSP].
- Halloween, the original slasher film holds up today and still out-scares every movie hollywood puts out.
- This is the worst movie of all time. I rented it once, and let me tell you, I almost tossed my PSP at the wall. It was just way to scary. It was scary+100. My sister almost peed her pants when she saw it. If you have any mind at all, don't buy(that is, of course, you're still wearing diapers).
- I gotta write a five star review to eliminate that dumb review at the bottom, I meen even for the PSP this has got to be the best horror film of all time.

1 comments about Dr. Seuss - Halloween Is Grinch Night.
- My review is on the Emmy Award winning "Halloween is Grinch Night", shortened later to just "Grinch Night" for some reason. It's a 30 minute Halloween special that originally aired on CBS in 1977. The Grinch Night story is not well known, but those that have seen it hold a special place for it in their hearts. Obviously not all of the animated specials of Seuss stories have been on the same level as the "The Grinch that Stole Christmas", but they are very enjoyable in their own right. The narrator and the Grinch is voiced this time by Hans Conried. There are two Seuss songs, "He Will Eat Them", and "Grinch's Inches Closer", both hilarious as you might expect.
Without giving away the whole story, you see the Grinch didn't stay good after Christmas and is back to being dastardly and mean. The citizens of Whoville notice the sour-sweet wind blowing and know that it means GRINCH NIGHT is coming. The "Whos" lock up their doors and windows to hide as this wind means that the Grinch is coming to terrify them on Halloween night. A boy named Eukariah decides that the Grinch must be stopped, so he faces his fears and confronts the Grinch and his countless monsters and spooks he has brought to attack the town. It is an enjoyable tale for the holiday.
Dr. Seuss personal influence is always apparent in his specials. He was the Producer this time along with Warner Brothers Studio's Friz Freleng. His original story and artwork comes alive. There is a different, more muted color scheme than most of his other films, but that is mostly due to the story occurring at night and the Halloween theme.
There are about 4 different releases of this story on vhs. This story also appears on a newer DVD with Green Eggs and Ham and 2 other short stories.

- I love this dvd. Lots of stories that I haven't seen before and some that are my favorites from when I was a kid. Plus a free Halloween train. I love the repeat feature, cause I like to watch dvds while I sleep, and if I wake up in the middle of the night I don't have to get up and press play again, because the dvd just repeats. It's nice.

2 comments about Big Scream TV: The Boo Tube! Volume 1.
- Specifically "The DVD is programmed to loop indefinitely so your display can go on uninterrupted all night!"
This is not true. The heads in the DVD are random and change constantly. In order to play the video continuously it requires that the users DVD player have a repeat feature otherwise it will return to the menu screen when complete.
Additionally, if someone wanted only a Clown face you would need to manually input several chapters and have it skip over the remaining faces/chapters. Instead of the pumpkin face appearing for several minutes, and then the clown face for several minutes, it jumps back and forth between all of the faces. For instance, if someone wanted only a clown face they would need to program in several different chapters and leave off the remaining faces.
To illustrate, the first scene is a clown face for approx. 20 seconds, then to a pumpkin face, then to Frankenstein, and back to a clown again. Then it moves on to a mad scientist, back to a clown, then a pumpkin. Each face appearing for approx 15-20 second intervals.
Also keep in mind that for the effect to work the larger the tv used the better. The video says to use smaller tv's that are easier to move around however the smaller the tv the smaller the image. Using a 13" tv as the video suggests leaves the image too small to view once set up. A flat screen 19" or 25" is required to have the image appear life-size.
I own all three dvd's in this series and the result and description above is true for all of them.
- We've used the Big Scream TV DVD's for a couple of adult Halloween parties and I love them. They run on a continuous loop so there's no need to replay them. The faces are suitable of children and funny enough for adults.
I'm sure that when this DVD was made LCD TV's were very expensive - that's why the set up recommends smaller TV's that are not as heavy. Of course these days LCD TV are more common and bigger TV's are lighter making them easier to use for this special effect. We use a 40 inch LCD screen to create a bigger `head'.
Whenever we've used this DVD during adult Halloween parties we always get many compliments from our friends. For very little money you can get the most amazing special effect that everyone will enjoy. It's worth every penny!

5 comments about Garfield's Halloween Adventure.
- This is the second greatest Halloween cartoon special ever (the first being "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown")!!!!! I've been watching it since I was about 2 and I still love it! The songs are excellent and catchy (which reminds me: WHERE'S THE SOUNDTRACK CD?!). It needs to be on DVD.
- If you are like me, and love all the holiday specials, STOP before you buy each one singly and on VHS. Being released on 26th October is a DVD with ALL 3 holiday specials! It was by sheer coincidence that I came across this information, as I was looking into buying the videos myself. I am so pleased that this is being released, about time too! Maybe because Garfield the movie is coming out..........
So look under DVD for Garfield Holiday Celebrations and have a great Garfield season this year!
- Until this was recently released on DVD as part of the Garfield Holiday Celebrations, the only way to see this was if you had owned in on VHS since they don't show this one on TV anyore. That's such a shame as this is one fantastic Halloween special. It originally appeared on CBS in 1985. Garfield and Odie go trick or treating and wind up in a real haunted house..much to their horror. Lorenzo Music was hilarious as Garfield and Tom Huge was fantastic as John and Binky the Clown. If you love the season of Halloween and autumn time then this is the perfect animated feature to watch. What a treat that this is now on DVD.
- I like the Garfield Halloween cartoon special and I like it just as much as the Charlie Brown Halloween cartoon special and I'm very glad that this is finally on DVD along with some other Garfield Holiday specias. This Halloween special is very cute!
- This is one of the best cartoon specials I can remember from the 80s. We taped it from TV, along with the Christmas, Hollywood, and In the Rough/Camping specials. But it got so worn out and then we couldn't find it, so I found a dvd of the holiday ones on ebay. I still remember most of the songs and sing along.
The best song is the one about Garfield's halloween costume, and he's trying on the junk in the attic. "What should I be?..It's all up to me...An astronaut, a robot, a hobo, a clown? An alien invader going out on the town?..." Maybe the words aren't quite right. Anyway, it's just one of those cozy cartoon memories where you feel safe and happy watching it. Mourning your childhood, kind of. I also love the part where they're chased out of the house by the pirate ghosts.
I recommend the comic book too. It's a little different from the tv version, but pretty accurate! (and the skull's facial expression on Garfield's hat changes, which is a pretty interesting detail, I think)
