5 comments about Bear in the Big Blue House - Halloween & Thanksgiving.
  1. My son was a massive Bear fan until Bob the Builder, but we still watch this video about every other week (even when halloween and Thanksgiving are no where to be seen). It truly helped him understand halloween and to not be afraid of the costumes. The video did an outstanding job of explaining things to him. Even though he was only 2 months short of his second bday last halloween, he loved it and loved the scary costumes of those older children. This year he wants to be a 'green scary man' (to parents in the know this has turned out to be Spooky Ooky from Rolie Polie Olie's halloween show).
Definite must have for parents and their little ones, it's entertaining.

  2. A great way to familiarize children with two great holidays. Particularly with Halloween (the first half), there's theme decor galore, cute graphics, and cleverly worded songs. Not as much action in the Thanksgiving portion, but still very entertaining and reminds kids that family and friends are what's important during the holidays. Sure to please any Bear fan.

  3. Love the bear and this is another great video. My 20 month old son loves the songs!

  4. "Halloween & Thanksgiving" is a "Bear in the Big Blue House" VHS release featuring two "Bear" episodes --- "Halloween Bear" and "The Best Thanksgiving Ever." For a video production, the quality is pretty top-notch --- both episodes are close-captioned, the sound is hi-fi and the recording mode is SP.

"Halloween Bear" features the kids of the Big Blue House dressing up in Halloween costumes in going trick-or-treating. For some, it's their first time and Treelo doesn't understand the concept at first and gets scared by what he thinks is real, but is in fact only a costume. Very cute and with some great songs from the kids, Bear, and Shadow.

"The Best Thanksgiving Ever" - The episode above was nice, but I think this is the standout here. For Thanksgiving at the Big Blue House, Ojo decides to take charge of the decorations and pageant, hoping to make it the best Thanksgiving ever. But her plans all go wrong, with some very comic results --- but not so comic for Ojo. This features two awesome songs --- "So Much to Be Thankful For" (Bear solo and entire cast) and "Thanksgiving With My Friends." This second song is a sweet duet between Bear and Ojo and is truly heartwarming.

This video came out before the current heyday of DVD, meaning that the only sort of special feature was some promos for "Dragon Tales" on video and DVD (a very nice promo) and other "Bear" releases on video. That's okay, though --- VHS really isn't expected to have special features and the program is worth it alone. I sure hope that this will eventually be released on DVD though.

5 comments about Halloween II.
  1. I always wanted the whole collection of halloween and ordering it from amazon was a great, recieved all of the movies really quick.

  2. Halloween II starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence picks up right where the original left off. This seuqel is a complete letdown, the actors look bored and robotic and the twist ending just about killed it for me. Stick to the original and leave this one to rot!

  3. I love HALLOWEEN II! I love how it takes place right after the original ended! Michael has been shot six times by Dr. Loomis, but he gets up and walks away! Loomis continues his hunt and Laurie Strode is taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital. Michael stalks the hospital in search for Laurie. Loomis finds out something about Michael that he NEVER knew. I love the showdown at the ending with Michael, Loomis, and Laurie. HALLOWEEN II is a treat for any and all fans of HALLOWEEN, horror, and slashers!

  4. The horror continues and it should have ended the series after this one.
    Buy you know Hollywood????????
Any chance to milk a franchise to death and they'll do it.
Is this as good as the first? No.
It's a good continuation of the first one.
The classic cast is back and the story is great.
However........... H2 starts to go in a more typical horror direction with this one and every one after it.
Less intense thriller than the first and more of a typical Hollywood bloodbath.
The intensity is lost among the increasing body count.
More blood, more gore, less brilliance.
They messed with the music too, not as scary, not as effective.
Still, a must see for fans of the original and the last decent one in the series until Halloween H20.

  5. What makes Hallowen II a good a slasher sequel is that director Rick Rosenthal had a lot of help from the films writers Debra Hill and John Carptener. The hosptial setting gives the film a dark atmopshere and although the film isn't as scary it's fun.

4 comments about Fun To Know¿ Create a Halloween Haunted House.
  1. I just got this video two days ago and I have already watched at least three times. The guys and gals in this video do a great job of showing some basic, easy-to-create, creative prop ideas for a Haunted House. And, they look like they are having a great time doing it too, which after, is what it's all about, right? I only gave it four stars because I wish it could have been longer!

  2. along with the projects in on this dvd the tip give my the guys are useful for building your own Haunted house

4 stars because more project would have been nice and a putting the plains on a web site instead of as still shots would have been preferred.

  3. First off let me save you some money. I wish someone would have told me this. This DVD and the How to make a Haunted House DVD are the same DVD. The only difference is the title. I bought both thinking I was getting 2 different DVDs.

Now about the DVD. It is not all bad. But it is very very basic. If you have no idea what you are doing this may help you. But if you have ever done a haunted house before then this will be too basic for you.

Skip it and the other one.

A much better buy is Xtreme Haunted Home Make-Over. This is a good buy and cheap.

  4. The people in this video create a haunted house and go through the steps for lighting, sound, creating props, etc. They make a number of different props out of relatively inexpensive items that you may even have around the house.

The jokes are a little corny at times, but the people are very likeable. They obviously enjoy what they are doing, and I have enjoyed watching the video a number of times. I like the lighting, music, etc. The video production has the right atmosphere and they capture that feeling of autumn and Halloween. The DVD is well organized if you want to watch just one segment over again.

Their ideas range from the very basic to more complex props. The video contains very traditional halloween props - graveyard, skeletons, coffin, etc., and a few different ideas like an electric chair and sparking chainsaw.

If you are really into Halloween, I think you will enjoy watching this video whether you make the haunted house or not.

Another reviewer recommended the Extreme Haunted House Makeover instead of this video. The two videos are almost like two culturally different celebrations of halloween. This video has the traditional spooky old-fashioned items. On Halloween, the kids were lined up to come and see the house. In the Extreme Haunted House Makeover, the house is like a set of a TV show or an amusement park. They had electronics with dancing, rapping skeletons and electronics that are interesting to watch. Although I also enjoyed the Extreme Haunted House Makeover video, the traditional Halloween decor is my personal preference.

3 comments about Scooby Doo: Headless Horseman of Halloween.
  1. I absolutely LOVE this episode of Scooby Doo. It's great for everybody, and it is especially entertaining because it includes Scoob's loveable relative Scooby Dum. That's all I had to say.

  2. This has to be the BEST Scooby episode ever made. The writing is superb. You feel like you are actually there experiencing the fear along with Shaggy and Scooby.
The most amazing part of all is the uncanny resemblance of Ichabod Crane and John. You almost can't tell them apart. If it wasn't for this episode being a cartoon, you wouldn't be able to!
The artist must have used a picture of John to create the physical character. They look like twins.
    Amazeing, simply amazeing.
We now thrilled to have a new nickname for John. Thanks Scooby creators!

  3. I will begin by saying a whole box of Scooby snakcs for Shaggy, Scooby Doo, and Scooby Dum! That's how good this tape is. The 1st episode has the luxury of being based on a classic horror. Like good horror, it starts normal, but there are incidents on the sooner side. There is some wonderful chemistry between Velmah, Scooby Doo, Scooby Dum, and Shaggy. Shaggy's comical and famous lines from his fear are there: "I'll remember this Halloween for the rest of my life....That is...if I have a rest of my life." The scene with Scooby Doo, Shaggy, and Scooby Dum and the 'Headless Horseman' is hilarious: "This head hasn't worker right since the day I got it. Mr. Headless Horseman, you'd be very unhappy with this head." The mislead is well placed, as well as the 'bad guy's' slips. There is also a good alternation between normal scenes and creepy scenes. Some other good humor is Shaggy's possible useful clue: "Aliens land at convention. The headless horseman is from outerspace." Finally, the solution and motive is on the plausible side. As good as this 1st episode is, the 2nd follows it quite well. It starts normal enough, but an eerie presence is there. The misleads are well done. We are also given time to wonder what the 'bad guy's' motives are. We are made nervous around innocent characters while we are relaxed around potentially dangerous characters. The chases are suspenseful as well as comical. And ofcourse Shaggy's one liners are there: "I gave at the blood bank." The solution is plausible and a little stronger than other episodes. Rather than just saying to ourselves: "The bad guy is found out and going to jail," we should at times feel a little upset when we discover who the villain is. True horror exists when not from a stranger wearing a mask, but being betrayed by someone we really we felt we could trust. Since vampires are in this episode (in a way) I can use this example. The Gary Oldman "Dracula" tries (AND FAILS) to be scary by making him a grotesque monster. The Frank Langella "Dracula" tries and (SUCCEEDS) to be scary by making him very human. REALITY CHECK! The more human and plausible something is, the more scary it is. This is one of Scooby's best tapes. Don't miss it.

5 comments about Peter Cincotti, Live in New York with a Bonus CD "On the Moon" (Monster Music High Definition Surround Sound Audio DVD SUPERDISC).
  1. I ordered this without really knowing what to expect -- a 'live' concert recording perhaps? -- but the final product did not disappoint.

I've been a fan of Peter's music since his debut album release, and caught his performances at a showcase in Singapore followed by a Rome concert a few months later.

His Live In New York DVD features a comprehensive collection of all his famous works, from I Changed The Rules to Sway to St. Louis Blues and On The Moon. Filmed outdoors on a small neighbourhood street in NYC, it starts off in the day, then mellows into a beautiful sunset, before picking up the tempo as the stars emerge.

Lots of great energy here, as Peter jams with his excellent band and displays obvious enjoyment in his mega-watt smiles and rhythmic head-bopping. The sound quality on this high-definition disc is amazing, so make sure you watch it in the evening in a nice, quiet setting for maximum enjoyment.

I especially love his performances of Sway, You Don't Know Me and The Girl I Knew ( the last a bonus track and as yet unreleased ).

Guaranteed to satisfy all Peter Cincotti fans adequately. But I'm still hoping for a proper concert recording in the near future. An appreciative 'live' audience would be the icing on the cake.

  2. What a joy it is to watch Peter Cincotti and his band on this great DVD "Live in New York"! Peter breathes new life into the songs from both his debut album as well as his most recent release, "On The Moon" which is included with the DVD. You can hear the Ray Charles influence on "The Girl I Knew". So much so that I was certain it was one of "The Genius"'s songs! What a pleasant surprise to learn that the song was written by Peter himself! The performances are nothing short of excellent. I guarantee, "A Night in Tunisia" will leave you speechless! In this world of lip sync and lackluster deliveries of songs, Peter Cincotti is like a fine glass of Cabernet after far too many years of grape juice. And like Caberbet, he will contiue to grow better with time.

  3. Peter Cincotti has continued to grow as a performer of tremendous natural talent and great ability. His easy, engaging style makes him a singer and pianist that you will want to enjoy again and again.

  4. Sometimes you bought a DVD hoping a great sound.
Sometimens you ger some DVD hoping a great hi rez image.
In this one I hope for both and I didn't get none.
Boring, easy listening, fully marketing oriented.
    The image is too lighting.
    Forget about it.

  5. Peter Cincotti is a great pianist and singer; his voice is full of emotion and very sexy. I am so amazed at his arrangements, especially the upbeat "I Love Paris"; I can never sit still and always feel like dancing. From fast songs to slow songs, he draws me in. It doesn't hurt that he's charismatic and quite dashing as well. His band is also superb and beyond awesome. I wish there were more interviews on the DVD, but I would recommend it absolutely.

4 comments about Scooby-Doo - Halloween Hassle at Dracula's Castle.
  1. Scobby,Scrappy and the gang do this one really well. A wide variety of characters at Drak's castle make this very interesting along with the classical features of a Scobby Doo piece. The twist in the storey line ( when all the monsters want the gang to help them) is different and keeps the story interesting. Well done Scoob.....

  2. This is the only complete episode of Scooby-Doo I have ever seen and its amazing it did not get me hooked on the show. Dracula is the perfect villain for the gang. Kids will like this and they will still like it when they stop being kids. Besides, Drac looks cool in this one.

  3. In some ways, this is really bargain basement Scooby Doo. Don't get me wrong. This is an alright video, but I have certainly seen better Scooby tapes. The first episode involves the gang along with Scrappy going to a Halloween gathering at a castle. Soon, they realize that these party guests are really monsters. But they are in fact being haunted a ghost who possibly is a danger. I'm not so uptight that I'll deny this is an alright episode. But the plot is not really up to Scooby's usual levels. This episode is just a little too campy, and it lacks the charm we find in the better scooby episodes. (Notably 'Hassle in the Castle,' 'Scooby Doo and A Mummy Too,' 'Foul Play in Funland,' 'Go Away Ghost Ship,' 'A Night of Fright Is No Delight' and a few other episodes.) The second episode involves a tar monster haunting some archeological sights in Turkey. Again, it's a decent story, but it does lack the charm that we find in many other Scooby episodes. I guess my bottom line is that if [dollar amount] is not a big deal to you, you may as well add this video to your Scooby collection. If on the other hand, your budget is on the tighter side, try to borrow this first and then decide if it's worth the [dollar amount].

  4. Most people probably say this isn't worth your time since it's no where compared to the orginals, however I would so disagree since most of 80's scooby-doo are really hard to find. The fact that it lacks the possible charms of a good mystery solving then unlike the 70's ones however I think it was more focus on the humor to help obtain a younger audience. Anways if you are a good scrappy-doo fan and would recommend you get this one.

4 comments about Cartoon Network Halloween 3 - Sweet Sweet Fear.
  1. This DVD looks pretty good. Espically because it's a halloween one! I am a big halloween fan, you know. I am glad that they will finally have the new ed edd eddy halloween special on there. Here are the four episodes that I KNOW will be on this DVD:
Ed Edd Eddy's Boo Haw Haw
    Camp Lazlo: Hallobeenies (my favorite)
    Foster's Home: Bloooo
It's The Great Pumpkin Juniper Lee.

And they'll probably have some other halloween-related episodes of KND, and other shows on Cartoon Network.

  2. I bought this DVD expecting to finally get to see Ed Edd n Eddy's "Boo Haw Haw". Be warned: It is NOT on this disc! There are some fine episodes on here, but that one is not present. Here's the actual list (from the disc in front of me as I type):

    Foster's Home: "Bloooo"
Juniper Lee: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Juniper Lee"
Billy & Mandy: "the Bubble with Billy"
Ed, Edd n Eddy: "Don't Rain on My Ed"
    Kids Next Door: "Operation J.E.W.E.L.S."
    Powerpuff Girls: "Candy's Dandy"

I was disappointed that "Boo Haw Haw" was not on the disc, being an obvious choice, but "Don't Rain on My Ed" is one of my favorite Eds episodes, so I don't feel completely let down. I'm not sure what that episode has to do with Halloween, but a good one nonetheless.
The disc is starkly devoid of extras, apart from CN's usual promos for upcoming material.
There are good episodes on this disc, and what is there is good quality, but given the absence of the most obvious episode choices and the lack of any extra material, I can't rate this disc higher than a 3. It's great if you really like these episodes, otherwise just watch them on TV.

  3. Although the other episodes were great, it's cool to finally see Juniper Lee on DVD, even if it is one episode. I recommend this DVD because I am a Juniper Lee fan and the other episodes are great too.

  4. It's baaaaaack.... This is the third installment of Cartoon Network Halloween. Now for a bit of a rundown of what's what on the latest Halloween DVD.:

Foster's: "Bloooo" - An unwell Blooregard turns white as a ghost ! (Let me tell you, that episode was WAY outta control.)

Juniper Lee: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Juniper Lee" - Young monsters turn into children every Halloween night. Now June must find a way to change them back.

Ed, Edd n Eddy: "Don't Rain on my Ed" - Time grows short for the Eds as they race towards the candy store for free jawbreakers.

Billy and Mandy: "The Bubble with Billy" - Billy chews on, then intentionally swallows some otherworldly gum Grim gave him.

Kids Next Door: "Operation J.E.W.E.L.S." - Numbuh 5 searches for the lost "Blurpleberry Supreme".

Powerpuff Girls: "Candy is Dandy" - The girls are each rewarded a piece of the Mayor's candy. Now they must save the day again in order to get more.

Now here's a list of episodes that didn't seem to make it to the DVD.:

I Am Weasel: "I Are Ghost" - Weasel and Baboon are ghosts in the Ghost Union and must scare someone in order to keep their jobs.

I Am Weasel: "I Am Franken-Weasel" - Mad dentist Dr. Franken-Weasel is itching to get back to his mad scientist roots.

Johnny Bravo: "Going Batty" - To upstage her nerdy boyfriend, a vampire girl goes out with Johnny.

Dexter's Lab: "Scare Tactics" - Dexter and his dad watch a scary movie and pretty soon the entire night becomes that scary movie.

Cow and Chicken: "Halloween with Dead Ghost Coast to Coast" - Red Guy dressed as a familiar Adult Swim character suggests to Cow and Chicken that they dress up as humans for Halloween. Unfortunately, it didn't work.

A random episode of "Courage the Cowardly Dog" - This is perhaps the BIGGEST gap in all of volume 3. Since the subtitle to this DVD is "Sweet Sweet Fear", I would suggest this episode:

"Katz Kandy" - Sick and tired of being second to Muriel, the felonious Katz whips up some mutant jam to kidnap her. Now Courage must save Muriel who is caught between two things: A huge taffy machine and a hungry Eustace.

Surely Volume 4 will have at least one of those episodes, AND the Eds' "Boo Haw Haw" special. Just wait 'til next year.

5 comments about The Halloween Tree.
  1. The Halloween Tree is a classic with outstanding Halloween animation. I have a copy of this on laserdisc including a voice over option by Ray Bradbury. Bradbury walks you through the film and his input on its making and how it's really the most recent revision of his book. He also talks about his childhood inspiration for the tale. It's phenomenal....now why on earth can't they transfer this from their laserdisc master to DVD with the same perks??? HERE ME OH CARTOON NETWORK GODS....put this on DVD to equal the quality of the laserdisc!!

  2. This was a lovely animated holiday special. They don't make very many Halloween specials anymore. It's as if American society wants to let it die, which is a real shame because Halloween is my favourite holiday. I absolutely love this movie. It was made in 1993 but it has a feel to it that makes it seem far older. It just has an old fashioned quality to it that I find strangely comforting.

It's based on the story by Ray Bradbury, author of The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenhiet 451 and he even narrates it, which I love. Bradbury is one of my favourite authors. Sure this film has a few slightly dark moments but it's actually very educational and at the same time heart warming.

  3. My children and I enjoy the Halloween tree ever fall, this is one of the ways we celebrate the Halloween season and will continue to do so for many years. Ray Bradbury was a wonderful writer, my only wish is that there could be sequel.

  4. This early 1990s movie is an absolute gem!! Not well known, but it should be. It is animated, and Sci-Fi guru Ray Bradbury does the narration, which is exceptional. Leonard (Mr. Spock) Nimoy is the voice of evil Moundshroud. At first glance the movie is about spooky Halloween doings, underneath, however, lies a story of friendship, love and loyalty. A close-knit group of best friends wait for their "leader", Pip, to join them for Halloween trict-or-treating. When he doesn't show, they get worried and go to his darkened house, where they find a note explaining that he has been taken to the hospital. On their way to find Pip, the group runs into Pip's spirit and follows it to a ghostly house inhabited by evil Moundshroud, a Dracula-type character. There they see the Halloween tree, loaded with the jack-o-lantern souls of thousands of others, with Pip being one of them. His spirit grabs his "soul" and leads them all, including Moundshroud, on a chase through centuries of cultures that explain the meaning of Halloween. I won't tell you the end, so you will have to see it for yourself! Terrific colorful animation, with an intriquing story line. Geared for kids, but adults will like it, also. This needs to be on CD! All I could find was the VHS, which I was happy to find because my 12-year-old copy is shot! Highly recommended.

  5. I was so happy to find this rare family favorite! Arrived on time in better condition than I expected; reasonable price. Thank you!
