5 comments about Cowboy Bebop - The Movie.
- Cowboy Bebop was one of the first animes I have ever watched when I was about 8 years old, (as a naive kid) I used to watch the series just cuz the action scenes were so freakin' cool, but now that I'm older I can fully understand what they're talkin about. Cowboy Bebop is directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Samurai Champloo, Macross Plus, Animatrix) one of my alltime favorite anime directors. What seperates this series from other anime series is the amount of diversity; usually an anime series is pretty 1-dimensional whether its just about mechs, action, romance but, Cowboy Bebop is very different from other animes. The one thing I like about Shinichiro Watanabe is that he isn't 1-dimensional, if you notice Cowboy Bebop is a mixture of 1)cool jazz music hence 'Bebop' 2) old western movies with bounty hunters hence 'Cowboy' 3)space battles like from Star Wars 4) and plenty of action and humor. This is why Cowboy Bebop is so famous because it could reach a lot of different people.
NOW the movie itself is incredible in my opinion, fans from the series should be used to the style of Bebop, the atmosphere, music, and even the voice actors from the series is the same in the movie except the only difference is that it is presented into a movie format. The story takes place like the series, the Bebop crew is after for money going for the smallest easiest bounties just so they can have enough money to afford some food, until a guy name Vincent comes out whose goal is to spread a virus killing all in sight, and the Bebop crew takes matter into thir own hands and plans to stop Vincent from doing just that. As always in Cowboy Bebop everything is balanced out very well the music by "Yoko Kanno" is as always incredible, the action and espacially martial arts fight scenes with Spike is always entertaining and you can actually learn somthing from just watching him fight. The story is exceptional, but It kind of feels like an extended episode from the series. The movie is worth a buy in my watch and deserves to be in everybodies library.
- Cowboy Bebop: The Movie takes place between the episodes "Cowboy Funk" and "Brain Scratch." The film takes place around Halloween of 2071, and the film sees an explosion of a tanker truck that releases a deadly virus that kills hundreds of people. After a large bounty is placed on the person behind the attack, the crew of the Bebop try to capture the bounty. During their search, they meet new allies and enemies. The film feels like an extended version of a regular Cowboy Bebop episode. The film is able to delve into more character development, as well as provide the extended action sequences.
The DVD extras are definitely better than what you get on the regular episode DVDs. On this DVD, there are featurettes, storyboard comparisons, character biographies, conceptual art galleries, music videos, and trailers.
Overall, this is an enjoyable film for fans of Cowboy Bebop. However, a viewer needs to already have some familiarity with the property in order to enjoy it. I would definitely recommend this release to anyone that is a fan of Cowboy Bebop.
- After renting this (I was so glad I didn't buy it) I thought: "Nan-dai?!" This movie smelled like a bloated episode, and the ending of an invincible villain who finally became "vincible" was way too slick for me. Yeah, it had an assortment of characters, but they didn't relate to each other, and they all seemed to be "free agents" out to make a quick buck. It just seemed determined to mix as many themes as possible: Middle Eastern; Western; babes; Blade Runner; etc. Barf, barf,
Give me Fifth Element any day.
- Some people might get it and some people won't, which by the way has an official title (Knockin' on Heaven's Door). This movie definitely caters to a certain sophisticated kind of science fiction. In a way I think the movie is a bit imbalanced in regards to settings and soundtrack, but the story is rock solid. Keep in mind this is anime and this movie is done in a very Japanese way. Cinematic Japanese techniques I mean... not your standard anime clichés.
What I mean by Japanese cinema is certain things are done to draw you in the movie like for instance scenes having a lack of any background music when you would usually hear some or more attention to details such as day-to-day life. These techniques really help draw you in the world the movie sets out to create. American films are sorely lacking in these kinds of theater experiences. Fortunately Cowboy Bebop isn't. It's not an action movie, but when the few action scenes do come on get ready to be blown away.
You are really drawn into the settings. I really like that in a movie. The only problem is the Bebop universe is a bit dual natured... a little too dual natured for my tastes. You start the movie flying in from space with some really whiz tech and everything. Then when you hit the planet everything is as if you're in almost modern-day time. Pretty much the only time you see anything sci-fi looking is when the airplanes come out, which by the way is not only cool ships but some of the most exciting scenes in the movie.
I have to tilt my head in confusion over the soundtrack. The first part of the movie has some trendy rock music going, which isn't all that impressive for the movie if you ask me. It just didn't fit right. However there are scenes that have your classic Bebop frenzied jazz. Now that's a better fit!
I can't really say this movie is just for the Cowboy Bebop fan, as it seems to have enough background information to keep the new viewers from being left out. If you like being drawn into a movie, with all of its sights and sounds, then you find such a movie here. If you action buffs and be patient enough the movie will aim to please you too. I will admit this movie is not for every sci-fi fan, but it's worth watching for the experience.
- I had heard about this from a friend and really enjoyed the animation and the story.

5 comments about Halloween [Blu-ray].
- This is my 100th review and what better than Halloween? This review is dedicated to all my Amazon friends!
When it comes to Halloween the reason this is one of the all time greats is because of it's simplicity of the movie. The plot is straight forward and quite simple. Movies don't need a deeper meaning or complex plot to be great. Halloween is a simple concept set in an ordinary world. Unlike some genre movies the power of Halloween comes from the suspense and not constant violence.
If you wanna be a filmmaker there are certain movies of that genre in which you wanna work in that you have to see. If you wanna work in horror, Halloween is one of those movies you have to see. I've seen Halloween so many times and broken down every aspect of the movie. The only problem with that is I notice some of the flaws. But Halloween is one of the films every single horror filmmaker must see. The reason this movie works so well is that Carpenter doesn't try and scare you every single moment. There are only so many scary scenes a movie can do before they fall flat. What Carpenter does with Halloween is makes one of the most tension filled horror movie of all time and that is why Halloween is so scary.
He scares us because he keeps us in suspense; Halloween is so creepy due to Michael just watching. He's not attacking he just stands there and watches. We don't know when he will strike. That raises the tension and again the fact he is just watching is what makes it so scary because it's so damn creepy. I don't care what kind of horror movie you wanna make. Halloween is text book horror filmmaking. Any filmmaker with even just a little bit of talent can create a jump scare. Most of the time we jump out of a reaction not because we are scared; something pops out at you it's a reaction. John Carpenter has some jump scenes, but they are scary because of the suspense he already built unlike other filmmakers that just throw them out there Carpenter has already built the suspense so the jump scare isn't just a cheap tactic.
The screenplay by John Carpenter & Debra Hill is fairly good the idea is simple and that's why it works. Despite the reputation the screenplay has it really isn't anything special. There are some weak moments and quite honestly with a lesser filmmaker, Halloween could have made for a rather boring movie. Its John Carpenter's brilliant directing is why Halloween was so scary. That's not to say the script for Halloween was bad. Most people say the strongest part of the screenplay is the girl talk and the pure evil sections are the weaker ones. I actually have to disagree with that.
Debra Hill was more of the brains behind the girl talk and that was the weaker part in my opinion. Debra Hill was a fantastic writer and producer. She made some great movies with Carpenter, but she also did a lot of solid work without him. The scenes with the 3 girls aren't bad, but its Carpenter's eerie feel is why it works. Some of the dialogue is actually a little weak at times. When Laurie mentions forgetting her books, Lynda than goes on and on about always forgetting her books is almost cringe worthy. Carpenter's eerie feel again is what makes this such a brilliant horror movie and therefore it's easy to over-look any possible flaws in the script.
The scene though with Annie and Laurie driving to go baby-sit is a very well written scene the dialogue feels natural and real. It's just at times some of the dialogue doesn't quite work. And again I'm not saying it's bad, because it isn't. I just feel some of the dialogue lacks at times. The scenes with Loomis and Sheriff Brackett for me are the strongest sections of the script, but also it could actually play out a little boring, but the actors, Pleasence is particular is really able to sell the scenes big time. Overall the screenplay is good, but not great again it really comes to John Carpenter as a director on why this is such an amazing horror flick.
Director John Carpenter really does knock it out of the ballpark here; Halloween is a masterpiece of filmmaking. Like I said the script was alright. There were strong moments and some weak moments, but John Carpenter creates one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen. I love the wide shots he really makes the best of it and we soak in this atmosphere and in the more tension filled scenes he moves the camera in for closer shots and we feel that isolation and feel cut off and stuck. These are simple horror filmmaking techniques, and they work so well and make this one really scary.
Halloween would probably rate as my all time favorite horror movie, but it's not a perfect movie. But the thing is the sense of dread, doom and isolation are so perfect that any possible flaw is wiped out due to that. In many ways, Halloween is the perfectly made horror movie. I truly believe with a lesser filmmaker Halloween could have made for a boring film. Despite what I said about the screenplay, there are those types of films that can be very well written, but with the wrong director the movie could fail. Halloween is one of those movies; with a lesser director, Halloween could have been a slow paced and some what boring movie.
But Carpenter creates such a chilling feel and due to that the movie runs at this brilliant pace. There really isn't a slow moment due to how creepy and suspenseful the movie is. After the first kill scene the next on camera kill scene takes about 45 or so minutes, but due to Carpenter constantly building the tension in every single shot it gets creepier and creepier. I've heard some people say they like Halloween, but it's too slow. I have to disagree. There aren't any slow moments due to the fact each scene some how moves the movie forward; either the character development or the story. Each scene also has a creepy feel due to Michael always lurking around. For me a slow paced movie is one where the plot or characters aren't advanced. Each scene in Halloween does one of those two things or it creeps you out. This is one of the rare horror movies where the viewer is held in suspense from beginning, middle to end. Even the most normal of scenes of just random talk have this overall creepiness to them, which isn't as easy task.
Halloween proves you don't need constant violence to make a really scary movie. Michael Myers simply waiting and watching makes the movie so scary that it makes up for the lack of action. And when the action finally does come about we are already on the edge of our seats and are held in such suspense that now when Michael does attack it makes it even scarier. And due to so much time being spent with Laurie Strode when Michael attacks her since we got to know the character and care for her it makes the scenes so much scarier. I always say the scariest horror films are the ones when we like the characters. If we don't care about them at all most of the suspense will be lost due to that.
And of course the music, which was composed by John Carpenter, is just chilling. I've seen a lot of horror movies and Halloween just might have the best score of any horror flick and I believe can rival any movie for that matter. When the opening credits begin and the Halloween Theme is playing already right there Carpenter manages to suck you into the movie. The music does play a big part in why this movie is so scary. The way Carpenter directs the movie is so chilling and than we add the music and that elevates the movie even more.
Like I said for me the scariest scenes in Halloween are the ones where Michael is just watching. I love the scene when Laurie is in school and Michael is outside watching. But my very favorite scene is when she's home and he's standing right outside her window looking up. No matter how many times I see the movie that scene always really freaks me out.
The acting is a little mixed, while none of the actors are bad some though are stronger than others. Donald Pleasence really was so amazing. He was such an amazing and a much underrated actor. He could play a role straight, but also knew when to lighten up and play it over the top when it's called for. It's sad that most people seem to remember Pleasence for the Halloween series. He really was so much better than that. And when I mean the Halloween series I mean the sequels. There's no shame being remembered for the original Halloween.
Any scene involving Donald Pleasence is just great. He really sells every line he says.
Jamie Lee Curtis also gives a solid performance in her feature film debut. It may not be her best, but it's very good. She plays the role as the heroine very well and she's believable and sympathetic and very likeable. Charles Cyphers is also excellent, he's not given a whole lot to do, but he makes the very best of it. Nancy Loomis is pretty good if not a little uneven and P.J. Soles does ok. I'm actually a very big fan of P.J. Soles, she is one of my favorite actresses, but her performance is mixed, but in fairness even though her role is small she has the weakest dialogue in the film. I liked the character, but she really did have the weakest lines.
Nick Castle who played Michael Myers was the best actor to play him in the whole series. He was just downright creepy. Michael is just pure evil; there is nothing left inside of him. He's evil in the shape of a man. It's like he isn't even human anymore. There is nothing left inside of him, but evil. No remorse and no feelings. To this day Michael Myers in the original scares me.
Halloween really is one of the all time greats and I would rate this as possibly my very favorite horror movie. Like I said the script was a little weak in some areas, but the direction and music by Carpenter make up for that. Halloween is a simple movie set in an ordinary world and that is what makes this movie so scary. Halloween has gone down in history as one of the all time greats of the genre and it's very well deserving of that. Halloween deserves all the credit it gets. It's a simple movie that aims to scare and very few horror movies deliver the type of chills Halloween does.
- Being a 10 yr old kid in 1978 and to see the HALLOWEEN title on the sign at the local movie theater sent shivers through my spine. And to finally see it was just scary!! This movie gets better with time, the scares never end. Directed by John Carpenter, this is a scarefest for anyone who believes in the boogeyman!!
Buy this today, you will not be dissapointed!!
HALLOWEEN is one scary movie!!
- I have yet to find a movie that instilled as much fear in me as the orginal story of Michael Myers. This movie is not about the gore snf blood we so often see in movies these days, yet, it scares you to the core. Michael Myers is more than just a killer, he is a fear that stays inside you. Run all you want, he will walk and he will find you. You can't overcome his strength. This movie will make you look behind you to make sure nobody is following you, and trust me, you will not want to be in your home alone after watching this. This is a classic and will always be. By Far the best horror movie ever
- Ya know, they splash across the screen right away about "Presenting them in 1080 high definition!!!". Well, not a few minutes into the film and i have to face what we once called in 3D gaming "THE JAGGIES".
Yeah, it is an "OK" transfer - BUT if you did not notice that ALL the cars in the drive ways had jagged edges running up and down them especially on the chrome, then you are totally blind.
I do not know much about older movies with their ability to transfer well to high def, nor do i own any previous Halloween DVD's to compare quality. I do know that this is the first Blu-ray i have had this terrible problem with and i can say that a DIVIMAX version may not actually be any worse.
My judgement may be harsh, but i went Blu-ray to escape those jagged edges; so to see them pop-up so early in the film just makes me glad it was only $12 when i bought it.
- Just my opinion here, but the night scenes still have plenty of blue in them -- and I do not think that this edition warrants a 1 1/2 out of 5 stars for video quality as some sites would have you believe. I am familiar with the Criterion laserdisc of this film (one of the best sets in its day) and there are certainly some differences...but honestly, like a lot of other people I always kind of felt like the night scenes had a tendency to look too "gelled" and either Cundey overdid the atmospherics a bit back in 1978 or folks started to get a little too nostalgic over at the THX mastering suites. I have a feeling it was a bit of both as the original widescreen video release of this classic was heralded as a total revelation of it's inherent style and I can see them pulling out all the stops to emphasize the visuals.
These day scenes do look a tad more green, and I would have preferred them to have more of the original autumn tint. But, any gripe about this is almost totally nullified by the gorgeous resolution the Blu-ray offers that is the best gift Cundey's cinematography could ever hope for.

5 comments about Mystery, Alaska.
- mystery alaska is a very good hockey movie if you are a hockey fan and russell crowe plays a very good role in this movie and there is some humor to go with this movie.
- Mystery, Alaska is one of those movies called a "sleeper". Not much heard about it and not much expected when you see it, but it turns out to be an amazing feel good, heartwarming kind of movie. If you love hockey, then it's a must have for your collection. If you love good, clean, family oriented and feel good kind of movies, then it's definitely worth the purchase.
- This is a hockey movie with a plot. A feel good, watch over and over type movie. If you love the outdoors and love hockey, don't miss this one.
- If you want to know about the great state of Alaska, just watch M. Jay Roach's Mystery, Alaska. According to this film, Alaska has the following:
cold, hockey, freezing snow, adultery, bitter cold, underage sex (maybe because of the cold), and hockey.
And that's just about it.
Now if you're not familiar with M. Jay Roach, he's the director of the Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery/The Spy Who Shagged Me/Goldmemberfilms, so I was expecting this movie to be funnier. There are some reallly funny moments, but it made me appreciate how much the humor of Austin Powers should be attributed to Mike Myers. The director is just there to help manage things. Mystery, Alaska tries to be funny, and it manages sometimes, but it's really an ensemble romantic film tied around a Rocky story.
It's no Rocky, though. That movie had real gravitas. This one has Burt Reynolds, who should, like the Rolling Stones (No Stone Unturned + 7 Bonus Tracks), quit. He's absolutely the worst part in this movie. He made me want to relive my junior high days. They were more fun than watching him. Russel Crowe is great, of course, but his acting is beside the point. He's only one small part of this larger town, and the movie doesn't focus on him, not like it should in order to be labeled a good movie.
The fact is, though--I guess I should admit it--I enjoyed Mystery, Alaska. It was a feel good movie about how it's okay to live in a small town. The people in small towns are just as good as the jerks from the big cities who look down on them and call them "hicks" or even "lumberjacks" in this case. Being from a small town in South Carolina, I sympathized with that point. It made me feel warm inside.
And the characters are likeable, too. I found myself caring about them. I wanted them to make good. I wanted their lives to be enjoyable. I wanted them to win their big hockey game.
But these things do not a good movie make. Mystery, Alaska is, finally, enjoyable but not great. Comforting but trite. Warm but, well, freezing cold.
- I wasn't sure if I would like this movie because I do not like Russell Crowe at all. The only reason I agreed to sit through it was that the rest of the ensemble cast was so good. I ended up enjoying this film. Who doesn't like a film where you can root for the underdog? The hockey team in Mystery, Alaska ends up playing an exhibition game against the New York Rangers. Everyone has the same question - can they compete? This is a movie that can appeal to many because while there are some very funny moments, there is also a lot of drama.

- For anyone who loved the 60's, cars and classic music from the era, this is right up your alley.
- This is a very funny movie that takes place on Halloween Night in the early 1960's. The jokes and sight gags are a mile a minute - a definate must see more than once to get all the gags and jokes!
A must add for all that enjoy this type of movie!
- This is one of the best movies.I haven't seen it in years.Robert Wuhl is the real star of the movie. The parts with Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer were boring.
- We use this video as background sound during our home remodeling projects. We have run this video so many times that we have all the dialog
memorized. The music is the key.

5 comments about The Witches.
- This is a good movie but toward the end it skip or something I thought it was my dvd player so I tryed another dvd player and the same thing happen. But that wont stop me from ordering again.
- I can't praise "The Witches" enough. It is so wonderfully crafted, entertaining, and fun.
While possibly not for all ages because of ghastly images of ugly witches and scenes of children in peril (use discretion depending on what your kids find spooky), this is delightfully dark and yet frothy and warm. It's one of my all time favorite fantasy films. It's a shame there aren't more fairy tale films like this one.
The makeup, special effects, score, settings, and performances are terrific. Anjelica Houston totally shines with her evil German accent and her black and purple fashions. And those witches, how wonderfully revolting they are. This is not your typical American fantasy movie. It has such a European flavor and feel, so charming and twisted (not unlike the story's talented author, Roald Dahl).
When I watch this film I feel like a kid in a candy shop.
- i gave this as a gift to three little boys and they loved it so much they watch it once a week. good price also!
- Witches is a fantacy which is fast moving and delightful to watch. The actors and actresses had as much fun making this picture as the viewers of the picture. The High Witch herself won an academy award for her part in the picture. In the end, all is restored to normal (for the humans at least).
- Dear Warner Brothers Home Video -
In a little more than a year it will be 10 years since you released this awful DVD of this terrific film. Isn't it about time you issued a new DVD of The Witches in its original aspect ratio (1.85 : 1 according to IMDb), with a cleaned up print, better sound and some extras? This film is practically a classic and loved by many. Think of all the money you'll make not only double-dipping us fans but also obtaining some new admirers.
Come on, be a mensch. Your inventory of these lousy DVDs can't be that big.

5 comments about Cool Runnings.
- Very satisfied with the promptness of ordering through Amazon; the product was in perfect condition
- This is the story of the Jamaican bobsled team that made it to the Olympics. It is based on a true story.
Unfortunately, true or not, there are scenes you just don't want children to see, and we were prettty shocked that it was rated only PG.
We could maybe have lived with one character calling another "*ssh*le", but there is an extended scene in a bar, involving a bar fight, during which the drinking, name-calling and fighting in that scene bracket another scene in the mens room of the bar, where one of the characters looks into a mirror and says, over and over, " I'm a bad-*ss mother who don't take no cr*p off of nobody!"
If these don't bother you - or if your child is of an age where you feel it's ok for them to see these scenes - then "Cool Runnings" is an otherwise ok movie. But these scenes were of a magnitude that for us this movie was definitely not ok.

- no issues with this purchase. Got a little nervous because it didn't arrive until the day before Xmas, but otherwise fine.
- A Jamaican man has the dream to make it to the Olympics, and while he is the fastest runner in the Island nation, he is tripped and unable to win.
He finds out that there is another opportunity, and that is for a bobsled team, something Jamaica has never attempted because... who would ever dream of a team from a Caribbean Island that competes against the best of the best... they don't even know about snow!!!
John Candy is a retired Olympic gold medal winner and he lives in Kingston. The team enlists his services and soon we find ourselves witnessing a rather funny story of a group of athletes going to compete in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where cold is something beyond every conceivable idea of this group of four great athletes.
Simply, don't' miss this fun Caribbean story of the struggle to achieve greatness.
- This is such a great movie - I loved it in the theater and now my kids love it!

5 comments about The Thing [HD DVD].
- This is a terrific movie with an absolutely terrific transfer. The Thing is a horror / sci-fi remake(this version was released in 1982) and as most reviewers have described it looks fantastic. Obviously if you compare it to a more modern film with digital filming and post production you will see a difference but I decided to give this film 5 stars due to the top-notch treatment that the transfer has undergone. I highly recommend this movie based on the content, special effects(1982), and the pristine picture/sound.
- OK movie, I thought the HD side of this movie was a bit ordinary, not much better than DVD. I wouldn't spend the extra to buy this again in HD, DVD is good enough.
Story OK, entertainment value OK.
- Okay, you've read all the praise, and it's all true, this is a helluva scary movie, well-made, the effects are outstanding, and it holds up well over time.
But that's not all there is to it.
We've all seen morph effects, one critter transforming smoothly into another, we were pretty bored with them by the early 1990's. Big deal.
But this was made before cheap, cheesy CGI morphs. There's nothing smooth about these transformations. Much the opposite. What's so monstrous about this Thing, is that everything about its transformations is so WRONG. This critter has a rather nasty disregard for the rules, it doesn't care that heads aren't supposed to sprout legs and walk off on their own.
Very imaginative special effects.
- My favorite Sci-Fi/Horror movie of all time, now in 1080p HD. Although some of this movies effects are starting to show their age after 24 years, it's still light years ahead of "modern" movies and Hollywood's obsession with CG.
The picture quality of this HD-DVD is really amazing, the features are the same as the standard DVD I rented a while ago but that's not a bad thing. It's just a shame that the superior format, HD-DVD, is being discontinued because Sony bribed the studios into using Blu-Ray.
- This story is just plain scary. It is a perfect blend of terrain, characters, and storyline. It is easy to tell when something is well done..........

5 comments about The Nightmare Before Christmas (Special Edition).
- This VHS tape is one that is not readily located. As a result, I was quite pleased to find it on Amazon at a fair price. I have purchased items from this Amazon supplier previously and have always had positive experiences.
- Seems that most people either love this movie, or hate it. We LOVE it!! Very artistic, great music, BRILLIANT!
- this movie is not worth being called a cult fav, i have no idea why it ever became so popular... and p.s. i actually do like james and the giant peach, just not the nightmare before christmas its soooo bad i will never watch it again.
- An absolute joy to watch that will be enjoyed by families everywhere.
A top movie that has been re-launched in cinemas in some parts of the world, why? because it opens the imagination of all children and adults as well with it's unique style and unmissable detail to quality in every aspect of the film from beginning to end.
This movie has proven itself worthy amongst all other great family movies ever made and with it's compelling story and it's imagination filled and memorable characters that you get to know throughout the entire movie, this is a film that would be appreciated by everyone especially in today's day and age as when it was first released seemed to me to be a little ahead of it's time and wasn't fully acknowledged until the late nineties to today.
with amazing songs that children and yourself will love to sing along to this movie has memorable moments that you will not forget also due to it's catchy melodies and heart felt humor its a film not to be missed.
- I love watching this movie during the holidays. The special features are great too. If you can find it at a good price, I recommend picking this DVD up.

- 1. It shows Micheal Myers' face too much. This makes us familar with him, which makes him less scary. The reason that Micheal Myers was known as "The Shape" in the original is because that's what he was. A Shape that was simply pure evil. In the remake, Micheal Myers could be any redneck who went psychotic.
2. You side with the serial killer. I not only find this annoying, but I also find it sick. When you watch a horror movie, you should side with the main character and hope they live. In the new Halloween, we grow up with Myers and we watch him. We then hope that he kills more people, simply because we want him to.
3. The movie timeline is flawed. If this movie was supposed to take place in 1978, which it obviously is, then there would be no cell phones. However, there are several cases when a character uses a cell phone!
Trust me. Just watch the original.
- This movie sucked this was boring and a waste of time, why did they have to remake it i knew nothing was going to change just a phyco killer whereing a mask like jason and killing people. This movie was whack this is just a remake on how the original was but with different actors, and rob zombie is a bad director for this pieace of nonsense so this was a whack movie and the same as the others.
- Being a fan of the Halloween series, I knew this movie would be different and went into it with an open mind and just to enjoy a movie, without comparing it to the first. What I got was just ridiculous, boring, and sick. It seems that Zombie grows white trash on a farm and incorporates every said type of actor into his movies, and this one goes to the extreme on that regard. Tons and tons of needless cussing and nudity, not to mention a rape scene that is beyond too much. Also, there are lengthy periods of time during this movie that you struggle not to fall asleep. I will say that I enjoyed the incorporation of the original Halloween music throughout the movie, not just the theme music but pretty much all of the tunes from the first. Overall, however, that couldn't make up for this remake that Zombie just had to put his trash stamp on.
- Absolutely awful in every way. No style. No thrills. No suspense. The script and characters are cardboard and plot holes (like what happened to the sheriff after he found his daughter?) plague this dud. Yes, I know, horror films are noted for brilliant narratives but the original was effective in its simplicity. Michael's back story took way too long -- was it even needed? -- and there was no sense of climax. The only thing this film proves is that Malcolm McDowell should have retired after his classic turn in "A Clockwork Orange." His overacting is an embarrassment, albeit just one in this not-worth-watching remake.
- Rob Zombie's Halloween has breathed new life into the series for me. It is in my opinion, that many people don't like this version of Halloween, simply because it is not the original. Many people feel as though "classic" movies should be left alone. However, for those who can accept that classics are not some sacred piece of work that can never be touched, this version of Halloween has a lot to offer on its own.
Unlike the original Halloween, this version of Halloween gives us some insight into Michael Myers' past, while taking a few liberties from the original.
In the original Halloween, it is kind of implied that Michael Myers came from a normal family, and for some unexplained reason he decided to murder his sister. Then the story fast forwards 15 years. In Zombie's Halloween, Michael Myers comes from a "white trash" dysfunctional family. His mother is a stripper, his step-father is verbally abusive, and his older sister is neglectful and self-centered. At school, Myers is bullied by older, bigger students.
As the story progresses, we learn that Michael shows some psychopathic symptoms, such as the enjoyment of harming and killing animals while showing no remorse.
In this re-imagining of the original, we even get to see Michael during his time in the mental institution, and we witness the character drift further into the "darkness" and become more evil. Another thing I liked, was we get to see how Michael got his mask (we even find out why he wears a mask). In the original, Michael escapes the mental institution, stole a random mask at a hardware store, and that's that. In this version of Halloween, the mask actually kind of has a story of its own.
Eventually the story essentially picks up where the original Halloween starts, and in fact, many of the scenes are re-created nearly shot for shot. This has turned off many, but for me, I actually like it. It kinda brought everything full circle from him being certified into the mental institution, to his escape, and then to where things started in the original Halloween.
Many people also didn't like how "human" Michael Myers seems in this version of Halloween. I take what they mean by that is, we know too much of the character. Where in the original, he was a killer who just kinda showed up out of nowhere and started killing for no apparent reason. However, I also disagree with this. In Zombie's Halloween, Michael Myers is scarier than he has ever been. He is very scary. For the very fact that there could be a real life "Michael Myers" among us. He isn't just some supernatural killer who only shows up in nightmares. And he isn't some mindless, unstoppable zombie with a machete. Michael Myers could be among us. There could very well be someone who has suffered severe trauma at some point in life, who is being consumed by emotional darkness. Hopefully not, but the possibly is could very easily happen.
Overall, if your a purist, then this movie will only disappoint. However, if you like Halloween, but can accept that this movie is a new movie, not a sequel to the last Halloween, and not meant to be a direct re-make of the original, then this movie should be pleasantly entertaining. I consider it the best of the Halloween movies so far.
