2 comments about Fat Albert's Easter Special.
  1. I've recently purchased this DVD. I've been waititng for Albert and Co. to be released on DVD at affordable prices. This special is an emotional one because it teaches us how valauble a life is. After watching it, I felt like crying after the kids witnessed Mudfoot in a fatal accident from Rudy's practical joke. Just as Albert said, Easter meant new life and rebirth of life. Forget about Peter Cottontail and movies with Easter egg hunts, this TV special is a must watch for all ages, and Fat Albert fans, too. Wholesome shows like Fat Albert are rare to find today, one where you can learn and have fun too with everyday characters. Thank you Bill Cosby and Filmation for a wonderful series.

  2. This was one of the later 70's episodes, which featured inserts of the Brown Hornert cartoon shorts, rather than the musical breaks featured in the early 70's shows. This Easter themed show starts out with the Gang rushing to watch the Brown Hornet and his spacey Easter heroics, before settling back down into a story about Rudy playing a practical joke that lands old Mudfoot in the hospital, and the Gang coming to terms with how to deal with it. It's more about goodwill than the Easter Bunny, but they manage to decorate some eggs in the meantime.

All in all, a worthwhile show that kids today should love. Since it's touch upon the Easter holiday is light, this special can be enjoyed anytime of the year. It's only a half hour show, with a find the Easter Bunny game as an extra, but it's offered at a low price. I think it's a must have for Fat Albert fans both new and old!

1 comments about Cedarmont Kids - Toddler Action Songs DVD.
  1. Cedarmont DVDs are the best. All children should be able to view these. If you have only a few DVDs to buy for your child then you will not make a mistake with Cedarmont. I bought at least 12..(if you don't find all of them with Amazon, then you'll have to order from their actual website which is a little more expensive) Of all the DVDs from Cedarmont, I think the Action Songs series were my daughter (and mine..hehe) favorites. They make Action Bible Songs, and Action Toddler Songs---both excellent...but then again, get the others
    Excellent product.

5 comments about The Long Good Friday - Criterion Collection.
  1. Seeing this one again brings back fond memories. An London crime boss is at the zenith of his influence & power when various events rise up and challenge his kingdom... who is responsible and who would dare challenge the undisputed boss in this way? While the conclusion isn't as satisfying as it might be, it was fun to see a young Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren tackle the gritty crime genre so early in their respective careers (1980). Look out too for a very young Pierce Brosnan as the gay pool boy.

  2. This flick shows us why people say "they don't make movies like they used to." The acting by Hoskins and Mirren in this film is superb, as well as the plot line. The soundtrack is great. I'm amazed this film isn't more widely known, but no matter. The Long Good Friday is the business.

  3. This is a film is that is nearly great. Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren turn great performances as a gangster couple in the London of the early 1970s. Mirren in particular gave her role a take almost never seen in this sort of film. She is a competent partner of Hoskins playing something closer to the corporate wife than the old-style gangster's woman. Nothing like her performance has been seen before or since.

Where the film goes wrong is that while it develops an elaborate mystery of who is attacking Hoskins, it gives an answer that isn't all that interesting. What we get is the Irish/IRA as a kind of faceless and nameless invincible monster. They are everywhere and seem to know everything while Hoskins (and everyone else in London) doesn't even know who they are. They don't speak, are rarely visually shown and amount to little more than ciphers within the film.

Hoskins made the role interesting by seeming competent, but by the end of the film he is made out to be a total fool. It would have been a better film if the Irish had been more human or (better yet) the complexities of Irish Loyalist and Nationalist gangsterism had been used. With more political dialog and a better ending, this film would have reached the level of greatness. As it is, its very, very good but flawed.

  4. This movie is excellent from the cast of actors through the plot and the realistic brutality that is far more shocking for it's realism than many of the movie scenes that almost glorify the act of killing and the crazed manner in which people die, that is all to frequently seen in movies of this ilk.
The stone cold realism of someone being stabbed in the swimming pool shower scene, in this movie carried out by a very young Pierce Brosnan is so much more disturbing for the cold quick and mechanical taking of a life watched draining away with a simple scene of blood swirling down a drain as the victim lies dead, with only this trace of his existence left, than the wild shoot outs and incredible fire and fist power which is empty and ridiculous in so many films.
The lack of airs and graces along with a lack of pretence as to who is who and who does what is also something that marks the movie as sitting in a category with very few other films of this genre.
Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren as the principles are a suitably cold couple.
Bob Hoskins especially seems to relish the role of being the top man,and the outtakes and follow up interviews from years later are of great interest to any film lover.
They are far more interesting and revealing than many of the two hour "lost scene, outtake" discs that are usually the drivel that did not make it past the cut, that is why they are "lost" for so long, they should never be seen,as they are terrible.
I am cynical in that i do believe these discs are deliberately held back for cash ins at a later stage,to ease the viewers money away from them to see a load of not much at a bloated price.
I have not layed out the plot or said to much about the movie, more about the atmosphere, however giving things away to first time viewers is very unkind.
I would suggest that you do get this movie and enjoy it for yourself, you will soon see how far the quick and simple efficiency of action is far more memorable and frightening than so many other movies action filled with guns, weapons, hundreds of deaths etc yet ultimately empty of any resounding memories or of wanting to watch the movie again or tell your friends about it.
    Ian.

  5. "What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?" Harold

Harold played by Bob Hoskins starts his Good Friday anticipating the day ahead of him. His plans include a large party on his yacht for a group of monied business men and a couple of men from New York. His plan is to tie up a massive real estate deal. The 1988 Olympics are coming to town and he plans to convert all the old docks into land for the Olympics.

Then the entire scheme comes apart when the 'bombings' start. First his chauffeur is bombed in his car, next his casino is blown apart and then one of his best men is killed at a gym. Harold has no enemies that he knows of. The London world of crime has been quiet for a couple of years. Who is his enemy?

Bob Hoskins keeps this film alive with his performance. Instead of retribution, Harold spends this day wondering and looking for clues. His men are spectacular. An interesting point is that real criminals worked on this set. Who knew that criminals would make good actors:-)?

Helen Mirren as Harold's class act wife is low key but she has an important role. Sexy and intelligent, she is the hostess with the mostest and charms those around her. She and Harold share a true love and they depend upon each other. I am viewing all of Helen Mirren's films and this is the start of her career as a leading lady.

When the adversaries become clear, the film shows a let-down. A true to form revenge mission is planned and the ending is not that surprising.
All in all this is a film about character and Bob Hoskins is the kind of boss one would want in the underworld.

"As long as it keeps up the mystery, the film sustains interest. This is due in no little part to Hoskins, just entering his film career after a decade of TV work but already in possession of an authoritative presence that was impossible to ignore." Chris Barsanti

A day and a night in the life of London underworld. A shrewd, intelligent film with some memorable performance by Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren.

5 comments about Globe Trekker: Chile & Easter Island.
  1. This is an episode from the TV series (depending upon your location, called "Lonely Planet", "Globe Trekker", or "Pilot Productions").
You can see more about it at http://www.globetrekkertv.com
This episode covers travels on mainland Chile, Robinson Crusoe island, and Easter Island.
Your travel host is Ian Wright (a truly zany bloke).
Focus is on travel-on-a-shoestring methods, and off-the-beaten-path sights, and gives you a realistic sense of "being there".
Mainland locations visited: Pintados, San Pedro de Atacama, Los Vasquez, Santiago, Temuco, Frutillar, Punta Arenas, and Torres del Paine National Park.

  2. Full of mistakes, mispronounced names and missing many more interesting locations.

This may be an interesting view for those who are simply channel zapping, but for anyone planning a trip to chile it's mostly worthless. It shows very few of the main attractions in chile, and for those it does show, there are either mistakes or omisions of facts that need to be known such as: rodeos are only held around the 18th of september, cerro tololo observatory is far from being the biggest in the world and a trip to the juan fernandez or easter island is outrageously expensive. The author is notably uneducated about what he is visiting and could have read all the information given from a travel guide book like lonely planet.

In a single phrase: Look elsewhere for useful information.

  3. Ian Wright provides laughter therapy throughout an exciting journey to Chile and Easter Island. When he is not running into the ocean with a sense of abandon, he is walking across steam-covered landscapes infused with a sense of adventure.

As one of my favorite travel guides he excels at making you feel you are on a journey where you never know what might happen next. The scenery in this DVD is spectacular as he travels across the driest desert in the world, visits some of the best observatories in the world and has a go at llama herding.

He walks with observers of religious traditions and takes a ten-mile hike to one of the most beautiful locations in the world where towering mountains showcase climber's dream rock walls.

It doesn't matter whether he is sipping tea to ward off altitude sickness or asking other travelers for advice about setting up his tent while camping, Ian Wright is one of the most adventurous travelers in the world and connects with the culture and people living in any area where he travels.

Truly inspirational and who would have thought you could find apple strudel in Chile?

    ~The Rebecca Review

  4. How many people know much about Chile? Not me, and suspect not most people, so I thought I'd take a look at this "Globe Trekker" DVD and get my first look at host Ian Wright. I found Wright to be a a bit full of himself, but tolerable. I rent these DVDs for the scenery and to learn things. I've seen five hosts so far on these shows and only Justine Shapiro hasn't "mugged" for the cameras, but that could change.

Anyway, Wright first tells us that Chile is a country with a remarkable "shape:" 3,000 miles in length and never more than 100 miles in width. There were few visitors this country, he notes, until about 20-30 years ago, because of a brutal dictatorship which ruled the nation.

The first stop is in the northern area, home to the driest desert in the world. We see plenty of the country's biggest source of income: nitrate, sulfur and copper. We find out later much of the country is extremely dry, which lends itself to helping preserve mummy-like skeletons and for observatories to see deep space.

There are interesting sights as one travels south in Chile. It's a long way between stops, too. San Pedro is "a main oasis for tourists," and a bit further down the road is "Moon Valley" with some beautiful scenery, then a spot where Catholics come in droves to worship the Virgin Mary.

I didn't find to much of the first half of this travelogue to be that intriguing. It just seemed more of an excuse for our host to ham it up. I can see why some posters here say this guy annoys them. However, the second half offered some good sight-seeing. For instance, who would expect to come across a German town way down in Chile? The town is "Frutillar" and it's as German as you can get - a beautiful little village that began in the 19th century when the area was trying to encourage European settlers to stay. The scenery in the distance, highlighted with a volcano, is spectacular.

Later, we go inside Torres del Paine National Park which has geysers (Wright pronounces them "gee-zers") and some tremendous glacier scenery. We see a penguin colony, too, which reminds us we are getting nearer Antarctica, which means very, very cold temperatures.

Wright heads back up to Santiago and then goes due West to the Robinson Crusoe Island and then on to the special Easter Island. This is the first time I have seen in more detail all those huge rock statues that make that island so famous. They are incredible, a real archaeological mystery to this day.

Easter Island is a memorable way to end this travel DVD. It makes you forget for a minute about the stupid host of the show.

  5. If you are looking for specific information to go and travel to Chile, I don't think this is going to be the right place to find it.

Chile is a small country in population but a big country on diversity, and put it all together in just 60 minutes is impossible!! Besides, Ian Wright tries to make himself funny so many times that he ends up misspelling and missing some very important information.

My advice: If you are curious, or you were there and would like to show your friend about the great country you just visited, this is a great choice. Even if you are looking for a new destination to visit this summer and are trying to get some new ideas, this stills fine.
But if you want a reliable and trustworthy source of information sorry but this is not your best choice :(

In any case Chile is one of those places that you will never ever regret to visit!

  1. This is taken from the gospel of John which I grew up knowing. Most children's Easter videos I have seen have been from Luke. It is nice to see a different version of the story. The way they use the story keepers is great!! My six year old twins loved it!!

  2. This is probably the best of all the Story Keepers videos. While there are many fine easter videos, few show the last days of Jesus as honestly and yet "child friendly". My five year old loves the video and watches it year 'round.

  3. Bought this for my four year old, thought it'd be a mild introduction to the whole Easter concept. Well, it's been weeks and he still has nightmares about the bad people killing Jesus (and himself, of course) on the cross. They show way too much for the little ones.
The whole idea behind this series is good, and this video would be fine for a much older child (they would probably follow the dual storylines much better anyway), but please don't subject your little ones to this one - unless you want to explain to the Sunday School teacher why he/she keeps crying and telling everyone that Jesus died. :(

  4. My son is three years old and has been asking almost every day since Easter for "the Jesus on the cross" movie. He loves it. It has replaced Peter Pan (which he received for Christmas) as his favorite movie. My daughter who is 5 enjoys it as well.

  5. I purchased the entire Story Keepers DVD collection when our son was born. I'd seen a preview of the collection on a TV infomercial and was impressed with the engaging cartoons. Our son is now four years old and he absolutely loves the stories and characters in these wonderful animated Christian DVDs.

The adventures take place in Rome 64 AD. The main characters are a group of children left orphaned during Nero's cruel persecution of Jerusalem. The kids are taken in by the kind baker Ben and his loving wife, Helena. Meeting with other Christians in secret, they tell the stories of fellow believers. They strive to keep alive the stories of Jesus and they become known as The Story Keepers.

These stories are fast paced, nicely narrated, and very engaging. The animation is adequately done, though not on a caliber with Disney or the large animation studios. The backgrounds are more elaborate and much better than the character illustration which is rather plain.

However, the quality of the stories and the endearing characterizations more than make up for the average animation. As a Christian parent you'll feel confident in sharing these DVDs with your children.

5 comments about Sex - The Annabel Chong Story.
  1. This was an interesting documentary. I was very curious about this woman, and honestly never heard of her. Grace found what she did empowering, and a way to take away the negativity that comes with women being in the sex industry. Her issue is when men have sex with multiple women, they are looked at as studs. When a woman does it, she is looked at as loose. She is tired of the double standard, and I honestly can't say I blame her. Her goal was to have sex with 300 men, but she had to stop at 251. Later someone did beat her record of 300. What was disturbing was her answer regarding STD's, especially HIV. Her answer was simply she would have no regrets and that she did an amazing thing. But if what she was doing was so amazing why hides the fact she was a porn start from her mother? She was a mixed up person, and sometimes seemed a little infantile to me. If you are expecting to see a lot of sex while watching this, you will be disappointed. You will have to be open minded to watch this DVD. The documentary is done with interviews and outtakes, some which can be shocking IMHO. The part where she was cutting herself was very disturbing. It's really sad that some people feel they have to mutilate themselves in order to feel pain.

What was more disturbing is she puts her life at risk to do this, and was not paid her $10,000 fee and did not even fight for it. If she was promised $10,000 she should have gotten her money!!! What kind of stupidity is that? She says that the United States is repressive, but she keeps what she does a secret. So it would appear that Singapore is repressive as well, and the emotional outburst when she does reveal to her mother shows how much Grace/Annabel is confused.

When the documentary ended all I got out of this was this woman is confused and in a lot of turmoil. I feel this documentary is interesting to rent, not purchase.

  2. This documentary tells, in a rambling, confused style, the story of Annabel Chong, the woman who participated in 251 sex acts in 10 hours.

Although not being a fan of the porn genre, I have always been curious to understand why people would choose to give their working lives to such an appalling industry. This documentary - in a fragmented way - gives a suggested explanation in Annabel's case.

Grace (Annabel's real name) was brought up in a fairly strict, but loving, family in Singapore and given a first-class education. She then came to London for a brief period to further her studies. Tragically, there she was brutally sexually attacked by multiple assailants. This seems to have set her on a new course in life: looking for something to alleviate her pain and come to terms with what has happened.

She then decides to study sexuality, in particular "female empowerment", at USC. I have since learnt that Grace was reading Law in England, hence this represents a radical step - something the documentary-makers completely fail to discuss or even mention.

This quest for empowerment leads to her misguidedly seeking sex with as many men as possible. It's only a step from there to the notorious "gang bang" movie. Of course, the men who run the Californian porn industry are delighted to have such a promiscuous and hard-working "talent" on their hands and go out of their way to exploit her apparent enthusiasm.

After the event, Grace clearly has not found the sense of self-worth she was looking for. Quite the reverse, she descends further into harm and unhappiness; the most upsetting scene of all is when her mother finally finds out what she has been up to in the States.

Don't watch this film if you are looking for titillation. It is one of the most distressing, least sexually exciting films ever made. And expect to come away with more questions than answers.

The story of this woman is a wake-up call to anyone who thinks that porn is just a bit of harmless fun. It's just a shame the producers weren't more committed to their subject.

  3. If you think porn actresses are well-compensated, this is the movie for you. I guess I thought those ads promising $500 - $5000 "daily" were for real. Chong lives the lifestyle of a cheap hooker, and her place is a dump. The reason she comes across as a "babbling idiot" when she speaks in public (her producer's words, not mine) is more than likely heavy drug use/addiction. She's one of these nimwit slicers who cuts herself "to let all the pain out". There is a whole subculture about these half-breeds on the internet. They even have their own newsgroup. Chong should be the newsgroup moderator, only she doesn't "get" computers, nor anything that doesn't involve a dildo.

The premise of the film, as advertised, is her having sex with 251 men. Be advised, not even one encounter is depicted in full. Instead this is a serious, depressing documentary about her sordid, sad life. Chong's a bore. Not by a remote stretch of the imagination can she act or deport herself with any grace or character.

Chong's purportedly (*it could be B.S.) a nympho, which is a remarkable and highly unusual gift, and the film should have explored this very interesting angle, and conducted experiments and/or shown more sexual activity. Everytime she opens her mouth to explain her views on sexuality, it sounds like something somebody told her backstage, five minutes before. She quickly spaces out and what seemed like a budding cogent conversation devolves into a marijuana trip.

[SPOILER]...So if you want to get free drugs and sex and a little bit of money to support yourself in a wretched apartment, then maybe you can look into being a porn actress. The porn guys pay her less than a thousand bucks a film, a mere pittance for exposure to AIDS. And, they stiffed her on the 251 men thing...she got nuthin. My conclusion is, the porn industry sucks.

Strangely despite all the nude flesh, I did not find this film even a little bit arousing. It is all mechanical sex, like in-out, not even slightly erotic. Sub-100 I.Q. man's idea of what is sexy. Nobody here is an artist; just cocks with cameras. Their idea of sophistication is triple penetration. I am not even going to explain.

  4. What makes this movie work is the unique character known as Annabel Chong. Actually Annabel Chong is the "porn name" of a young USC student named Grace Quek. Grace grew up with a religious family in the ultra conservative society of Singapore. Apparently Grace began to rebel against these strict social conventions, especially after being exposed to more permissive people and cultures in London and California. Grace was a serious student who was seeking to combine her feminist perspective with her intense interest in sex. She became famous by appearing in a porn movie where she had sex with 251 different men in a 10 hour period.

Grace is clearly an intelligent woman who was attempting to push the sexual boundaries (and buttons) of conservative society. She was also someone with "issues," as made clear by her admitteded drug abuse, weird mannerisms and inarticulate ramblings. Quite likely she was still getting high while this film was being shot. But yet I found her to be an interesting person. Remember she was just a college kid and an especially adventurous one at that. She was also someone who wanted to experiment with her sexuality outside of what mainstream society considers acceptable. Of course, a woman having sex with so many different men is disturbing to most people. But I think that is exactly what Grace wanted to do, to "disturb" people and to challenge the social stigma against the free and full expression of wanton female sexuality in its most extreme form. So, personally, Annabel/Grace I commend you for your courage!

My primary complaint with the movie is that Gough Lewis is a pretty mediocre director. The documentary seems to lack a clear storyline or purpose and is instead just a confusing mishmash of different scenes thrown together. Not enough attention is devoted to explaining Grace's past or why she wants to do the "gangbang". Also on the bonus documentary, which was filmed 4 years after the movie, Grace complains that Lewis included certain scenes out of context. For example, the original film shows a scene of Grace mutilating her arm with a knife and makes it seems like this is something she does on a regular basis. But Grace says she only did this on a single occassion, the day that she and the director broke off their romantic relationship, and that he not only encouraged her to do this but took part in the self-mutilation himself.

In any case, I'm curious whatever became of Grace. This world doesn't always treat it's weirdos and extremists all that well. But hopefully she is doing OK. Whatever your opinions on the actions of "Annabel" this is still a movie well worth watching.

  5. I saw SEX - THE ANNABEL CHONG STORY at a film festival when it first came out and, happily, Chong herself was there for a Q and A afterwards. The movie itself explores the interesting, and often contradictory, personality of Annabel Chong. Born Grace Quek into a traditional family from Singapore, Chong had, as it seems, a taste for something a whole lot more. The film tries to get at exactly what it is that drives a woman to gain infamy as the receiving end of the world's biggest gang-bang. Given the type of person who would aspire to such, it is not surprising that it does not quite succeed despite an admirable effort.

Chong comes off as troubled at times (she cut her arms with razors at one point), but, as a whole, more put together than coming apart. Pleasant and appreciative of her fans, she seems to have a decent sense of the moral quandries of her actions. The scene in which her mother discovers her daughter's true work is particularly tough. And the actress who breaks Chong's gang-bang record is so nasty and self-centered that Chong cannot help but seem like a decent person if only by comparison.

Chong never achieved true fame through porn. Her name is not as well known as, say, Jenna Jameson or Tera Patrick. But her films are so wild that she gains in notoriety among those who do recognize her what she lacks in name recognition. During the Q and A she seemed nice though a bit overwhelmed in front of so many people and being peppered with (for the most part friendly) questions. SEX - THE ANNABEL CHONG STORY is worthwhile for those interested in a bit more backstory to the porn scene.

5 comments about Baby Looney Tunes' Eggs-Traordinary Adventure.
  1. Baby Looney Tunes is the best thing that has happened to tv since Jim Henson's Muppet Babies. What upsets me is that BLT only lasted one season. The Muppet Babies lasted 7. I love the movie especially when Daffy doesn't beleive that the Easter Bunny exists. The cutest BLT is Petunia Pig (Who is not featured in the movie but on a bonus episode on this DVD - "The Magic Of Spring." in this cartoon series, the is a new Looney Tune, Melissa. i do not remember seeing an adult Melissa. This is a must own.

  2. These cartoons are truly sickening.

Why must they spoil the greatest cartoon characters ever made and make them cute little babies? It's awful. They've destroyed every single character... from Bugs Bunny to Petunia Pig.

All the characters are annoying, but the two very worst (in my opinion) are Sylvester and Tweety. Tweety is huge. He is almost as tall as Sylvester. And for the record, Tweety is a male bird. And Sylvester is a big wimp who DOESN'T TRY TO EAT TWEETY! INSTEAD HE IS ONE OF TWEETY'S FRIENDS! I shudder even thinking about it.

The animation has absolutely no spirit. The characters are all turned 'cute' and they move slowly, with not even the slightest hint of squash and stretch.

And worst of all, the characters teach kids not to lie and it's mean to make fun of others. This is very comical, Considering all the things that they do in the original cartoons. Such as, Daffy gambling his money away, Bugs shooting a guy in the audience for coughing, Taz attempting to eat Bugs Bunny, numerous times, Sylvester telling Tweety to hide in his mouth, Granny whopping Sylvester with her umbrella and Tweety beating up a bumble bee and stuffing it in a horse costume so the two cats inside will be stung.

In all fairness, this show itself wouldn't be so bad were it not the Looney Tunes characters. It still wouldn't be good, mind you, but not terrible.

It's sad to see classic cartoons ruined like this. Watch DUCK DODGERS instead.

  3. People NEED to lighten up!!! My 20 month old daughter LOVES this show. It is a harmless, lovely cartoon that lights up my baby's face when it comes on. She loves her "Tooney Tunes' as she would say.

  4. My a lot younger sister is addicted to Baby Looney tunes. So when comparing all the kid shows, this one is definitely the dumbest. Some actually have reason, and some are actually pretty good, like Thomas the train, or some of the cartoon network shows. But one, Baby Looney tunes, a slow-paced show for very young kids, ruins and disgraces, some of Chuck Jones and Bob Clapton's classic characters. It is so idiotic, I can't listen to it, which happens because my sister puts it on so loud. Granny walks like a "hunchbutt" Tweety sounds like a girl. The characters have no clue, and it's even on Boomerang's cartoons without a clue, and in a lot of ways. The stupid writers and directors(Warner Bros.) must've made this while sleeping. Trying to make Bugs Bunny look like a cute little bunny. Just program when he said "What up Doc."
Then Granny does her stupid gardening and baking like all other grannies. This is so not educational. When do Bunny's have brownies.
    Definitely do not buy this.
Unless you have a child or sister like mine, who is really crazy and weird. I feel so sorry for her now.

Last but not least the music on this DVD and show. It's terrible, annoying, and is so repetitive. Every part of this show is annoying. When I was younger it was even hard for me to watch.
It stinks, it's horrible. People, this is classic cartoons at it's worst.

Tom chasing Jerry, a classic, Yosemitie Sam looking for some ole' rabbit, a classic, our first great talking cartoon, that should forever be remembered but now a little baby's cartoon of cute blissful made up cartoon character's a disgrace, and already been airing for over 15 years. Warner bros. should stop trying to attract kids, and let the greatest cartoon characters ever live on. Not make them foolish.

  5. Baby Looney Tunes is a cute show that children and parents alike can't help but like. This dvd is a great addition to any collection.

  1. Product as described. Perfect condition. Fast arrival. Extra snippets and specials on the DVD. Would recommend seller without hesitation.

  2. I am a little biased b/c my 2yo is OBSESSED with Snoopy, but this was a fun DVD. Easter Beagle is a classic and I especially enjoyed the part where Peppermint Patty tried to teach Marcie to color eggs. Easter Beagle is a classic and is enjoyable for us nostalgic adults too! And Charlie Brown--oops, I mean Schultz--allowed the female characters to be more likeable in this one, which is not usually the case. The bonus episode, Arbor Day, was cute and not an episode I'd seen before. Best of all, my 2yo loooooooves this DVD b/c there are plenty of SNOOPY scenes which cause lots of happy giggles! Definintely two thumbs up from us!

  3. it brings back memories, it's innocent, cute, funny and great for the who family to see regardless of age.

  4. It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown originally aired in 1974 on the CBS network. The special features the voices of Todd Barbee, Melanie Kohn, Stephen Shea, Linda Ercoli, Lynn Mortensen, James Ahrens, and Bill Melendez. The musical score is composed by Vince Guaraldi, and the presentation is directed by Phil Roman. ***

Just in time for Easter, the classic Peanuts special has been given the remastering treatment, and released again as a "special edition." ***

It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown was one of the many television specials released based on the comic strips of Charles Schulz. Naturally, this special focuses on the holiday of Easter, and a number of adventures that befall our young heroes. Amongst the plots crammed into the 25-minute television presentation are Peppermint Patty's efforts to dye Easter eggs, only to have her plans be ruined by awkward pal Marci, Linus frequently preaching to everyone that the "Easter Beagle" will come on Easter Sunday, and Snoopy's efforts to get his bird friend Woodstock a decent place to sleep. ***

All of the Peanuts television specials are classics, and well worth watching. But one thing I won't deny is that the Easter Beagle does fall short of earlier outings. For instance, the episode tends to focus more on the commercial aspects of Easter than the deeper, religious meanings (which the earlier A Charlie Brown Christmas did to perfection.) It's still worth picking up if you're a fan of the comic strip or these characters, though. ---

    Image And Sound:

While this still isn't a great DVD transfer, it's definitely a step up from the 2003 DVD release. The 2003 release had a rather soft picture, and plenty of grain throughout. The picture this time around is sharper, and while there's still some grain in many places, I won't deny that this is the best the special has looked in a home video release to date. ---

    Special Features:
Despite being billed as a "Special Edition", there are only two bonus features here. The first is the 1976 special, It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown. This was included as a bonus feature on the original DVD issue as well, so it's nothing new to the DVD presentations of this special. The new, more noteworthy special featured here is the In Full Bloom: Peanuts on Easter featurette. This features a variety of interview footage, and while you'll probably learn some things you didn't know, at just 15 minute it leaves you wanting more. Whether or not you want to buy this special on DVD again based on the inclusion of one little new documentary is up to you. ---

    Final Words:

This is one of many classic television specials based on Charles Schulz's classic characters, but it's definitely not up to the earlier specials, namely the Christmas and Halloween ones. Should you buy this DVD? If you're a Peanuts fan and don't have this on DVD yet, go for it. But if you bought the 2003 DVD, the only things you're getting here that weren't on that DVD are improved picture quality and a new documentary that only runs about 15 minutes. It's up to you to decide whether or not the double dip is worth it.

  5. Never laughed so much during the original classic Peanuts Christmas or Halloween shows, but this one is a hoot! The kids find nothing BUT Christmas items as they search for Easter goodies, seems like today even though unfortunately we have been dealing with this nightmare since the 1970s! Peppermint Patty trying to dye eggs as Marci constantly cooks them in every imaginable way, BUT hard-boiled. Buy it, watch it with your kids and find you're both "tee-hee"ing. Enjoy!

  1. Another claymation classic! I remember very little of this as a child and as I rewatched it, it all came back to me. If you enjoy Santa Claus is Coming to Town, you'll enjoy this. It has many similarities with questions being answered about the main character, mountain villians who turn nice, somber towns, a cruel ruler, catchy songs, memorable, adorable characters, etc. Sunny the Bunny is adorable with his rosey cheeks and the chickens are so sassy. And bringing back Fred Astaire at the Narrator was a smart choice. I recommend this DVD or the one made a few years back. The nice one about this is the DVD has a paper cover over it and Sunny has fuzzy fur you can feel. It may be cheesey at times, but give in to your inner child and have fun!

  2. Joseph Brando's review is spot-on; everything he wrote is accurate to-the-letter concerning yet another ridiculous and unnecessary Warner reissue of a Rankin-Bass animation classic. 'tis such a shame that R-B titles have been so badly botched in recent years. Remember the godawful Destiny's Child video slapped onto the "Original Television Christmas Classics" box set a few years ago???

Now, let me address the previous revewier, "A. King". Umm... I hate to tell you this but you don't appear to know much about Rankin-Bass animation. The studio did not use Claymation in its animation but the tried-and-true wire armature process. Think the original King Kong... and a Happy 75th B-day to you, Kong!!! ;) 'Claymation' is a term trademarked exactly 30 years ago by it's creator, Will Vinton.

With that said, buy the original release of The Easter Bunny Is Comin' to Town and have a blast with Sunny, Gadzooks and the Big Rock Candy Mountain!!!

  3. Between the train, Gadzooks the bear, and all the cute songs on this video, my 2 yr. old watched this dvd several times.

My husband and I liked it because it "explains" all the rituals of Easter: why do we color/hide eggs, why do we get new clothes, Easter bonnets, chocolate bunnies/jellybeans, etc.

The extras were, in my opinion, lousy, but that's not what I bought it for.

If your child(ren) enjoyed this video, I'd also recommend getting "Peter Cottontail", another Rankin-Bass video my son loved.

  4. I think this is a cute movie. My 3-year-old like it. It's like the old Santa clause is Coming to town movie and Frosty the Snowman. It's a classic. Glad I have it in my collection.

  5. I have a copy of the 2006 release of "The Easter Bunny Is Comin' To Town" and this 2008 Deluxe Edition and have compared them. The deluxe edition has definitely improved the quality. I checked it on our tv and computer. It isn't noticeably clearer, mind you, but the motion is less choppy, more smoothed over, making it a better video to watch. I'm not sure why the 2006 version was like this. The old VHS tape we have of it was smoother than the 2006 dvd, too. All in all, it's a fun, good feelin', holiday classic that an avid Rankin Bass fan like me can't do without. People, if you get a copy, save your eyes and get this newer one.

  1. We bought this for our 4-year old daughter and she loves it. The movie is very well done and she wanted to watch it over and over again. She asked a lot of questions and I am really impressed how this movie helped with the explanation of the true meaning of Easter and what it still means to us this day.

  2. I love that Hanna and Barbera of cartoon fame did this series of cartoons to tell important Bible stories....recommend it!
