  1. This book has entertained our kids over and over. The amazing thing is how prolific Kathleen Bullock is, yet she remains virtually undiscovered. It makes me wonder what determines the success and popularity of a book. I think that this book deserves to be treated as a classic on par with Beatrix Potter's "Peter Rabbit".

  2. My daughter loves this book, and wants it read over and over. (Bunnies Momma, Bunnies!!). There are NO WORDS, and so we have say over and over, hippity-hoppity and tell a strange story about the bunnies who disturb a family for no apparent reason, and for some reason each have a balloon. I not only don't enjoy reading this book to her, but find it incredibly boring. Buy at your own peril.

  1. "Happy Easter, Sprinkles!" is a cute book featuring Blue's baby brother and the other characters from "Blue's Room." No doubt, you can figure out from the title that this book is about Easter. There are lots of fun ways to celebrate Easter, but one of the most fun is definitely the painting of Easter eggs! It's Sprinkles's very first Easter and it's Fred who gets the idea to celebrate by painting eggs. We help by figuring out what items they need for this. We also help them search for items and to think up things that remind them of springtime. In the end, everyone, including Sprinkles, comes up with some great ideas for things to paint on their eggs.

I really like this book. The soft pastel illustrations are pleasing to the eye and work well with the colors of the holiday. There's also some imaginative scenes and fun action in the pictures. Definitely recommended for the Easter season.

  1. It is a good tool to use to share the Resurrection of Christ with young children. This adaptation stays true to the text of the King James version of the Bible and the illustrator's interpretation of the text is inspiring.

  2. In this excellent book, children's author Elizabeth Winthrop takes the story of Jesus' crucifixion from the gospel of St. Matthew, and, remaining true to the King James Version original, adapts the story for the young reader. Going along with the text is Charles Mikolaycak's wonderful illustrations, which have subdued colors and a style that goes a long way in supporting the text.

Now, this is the unvarnished Biblical text, and the images of a bleeding Christ might be a bit much for very young readers. But, that said, if you want to introduce the young person in your life to the real reason for the season of Easter, then I highly recommend this book!

  1. What a rare find! This book captures the energy, excitement and joy of Easter. Written in delightful verse, the story covers everything from the fun of an egg hunt to the awesome power of Jesus' resurrection. I was so taken with it that two copies came home - one for our family and one to give away!

  2. Many Easter children's books feature Easter egg hunts, but steer clear of the religious significance of the holiday. Today Is Easter! describes almost all of the wonderful things that children do on Easter, including the joys of the religious part of this wonderful Christian holiday.

The only favorite memory of mine that the book missed was going to Eastern sunrise services outdoors with my parents. The book covers the beauties of spring, Easter baskets, Easter egg hunts, getting dressed up to go to church, Easter church services, an Easter parade, spending time outdoors playing games, and Easter dinner (including saying grace).

The illustrations feature the vivid colors of spring, as suggested by the text (lavender morning light, for example). One fun one leaves an Easter egg unfound, so the young reader can look for it.

I did find the illustrations troubling in two places. First, the sister and brother ostentatiously share a bedroom (with different beds). This is shown twice in a short book. Second, they are displayed changing in their underclothes. I really didn't see how this advanced the story, or made the book more Easter-like. It seems to me like the illustrations could have carried off the story without getting into the bedroom and dressing arrangements at all. I would not comment on it, but the images seemed at odds with the rest of the story and illustrations. I graded the book down one star for this unnecessarily jarring note.

Fans of displaying images that are free of racial and sexual stereotypes will be interested to know that the sermon is presented by a female minister, and that the faces in the book come in many hues.

If you decide to purchase and read this book, I suggest that you do so before Easter to help create a sense of anticipation for Easter activities. In fact, you can use the book to plan your day with your child . . . if you like.

The book is a good one for about the first grade reader in the second half of the year or the beginning of second grade.

I found it invigorating to think ahead to Easter on a wintry day in Boston with melting piles of snow all around.

After you read it, you'll also be saying:

"Thank you for Easter! It's a wonderful day!"

  3. This book is a cute, rhyming explanation of what happens on Easter, from when you get up to the end of the day. This is good as it's what preschoolers want-concretely, what do we do? The problem is it has stuff in it that my area DOESN'T. I don't want my [yound child] to expect "glorious" weather and lots of flowers because we often don't have this in New England. Likewise, this book has games with balloons, and a band, and a parade on Easter afternoon. Not around here! The LAST thing I want to do is make Easter a let-down because there are no balloons, no parade...so we'll skip this book.

2 comments about Minnie and Moo: The Attack of the Easter Bunnies (I Can Read Book 3).
  1. When Minnie tells Moo that the farmer says he's too old to be the Easter Bunny this year, Moo panics and looks for an Easter Bunny replacement. She asks Elvis the grumpy rooster and some of the other farm animals. In the end, Moo tries solving the problem herself, and gets an Easter surprise of her own. It's a fun trek across the farm as Minnie and Moo plead and plan to give the farmer's grandchildren a traditional Easter.

Minnie, Moo and the rest of the farm animals are amusing and adorable. The illustrations are charming and colorful. Parents looking for a light, enjoyable moment of reading with their kids should try any of the eleven Minnie and Moo books.

The Attack of the Easter Bunnies is a part of the "I Can Read Book" series, a wonderful line of books created to introduce children to the joy of reading.

  2. Minnie and Moo are back, this time with an Easter story. The cows discover that the farmer will not dress up and play the Easter bunny for his grandkids. They set out to enlist the help of some farmyard friends. Now one will help so they dress up to play the part. When the time come for the visit from the Easter bunny Minnie and Moo find that all of their friends had a change of heart and are dressed to play the part! Follow them on their adventures as they all play the part of the Easter bunny for the farmers grandkids.

The pictures in the story are very colorful and add a lot to the story.

I would recommed this book to others. If you like the Minnie and Moo series you will enjoy these books by the same author.

  1. As an educator, I look for quality books for my daughters. I have yet to grow tired of reading this story to my children. I especially like the idea of Fuzzytail going home at the end of his busy day, emphasizing the importance of family. If you enjoy Lisa McCue's writing style, you will not be disappointed.
