- Every mother should listen to this at Christmas time !!
- Very touching and I really enjoy listening to its original chrinstmas music, as well as the rearranged traditional stuff. This is so far my favorite Xmas album.
- This one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.
It is a must for any mother in the Christmas season to have. All the songs are very heart warming. I have had fellow workers and friends ask what is the name of the music I am playing.
- I found this album in the bargin bin at a drug store about 5 years ago, taking a chance I rarely do, because of the intriguing theme, and the list of singers. I choose my Christmas albums exceedingly carefully. I still can hardly believe that something this good exists, let alone lying in a bargain bin. Out Of Print -- that's insane! This shows how poor marketing can sink a great product.
Anyone, anyone at all who hears "Christmas Lullabye" (Belinda Carlisle) or "Bless This Child" (Vesta) will cry. Every one of these is a gem. Except for the beginning and ending songs, these are all new to me, and all wonderful. What's more, they evoke the feeling that we mothers have for our children at Christmas, which is a wonderful thing to experience. This captures it, and it so well helps you imagine how Mary felt with the infant Jesus.
I'm shocked that some DJ doesn't get wise and play this on the air. This album would be instantly under so much demand that it would come back into print. Really, it has such heart. This is the very rare exception to the poor quality of Christmas compilation albums. Anybody reading this -- just find it, wherever you can -- it's unbeatable.
- I woke up early on Christmas morning 1995,and all that was on was on the radio was Christmas music. While I tried to go back to sleep,an incredible song began to play, and my reaction was "Who in the world is this singing"? I called the radio station later to find out "the title and artist of a really nice song I heard about 4:30 this morning".Their reply:"At 4:26 we played "Christmas Lullaby" by Belinda Carlisle". I almost dropped the phone.I'm 50 years old,a Gulf War veteran, and nearly 12 years after I first heard it,it still stops me in my tracks. After searching for nearly 3 months,I was beginning to wonder if "Mother and Child" was some demo only radio stations had. After finding this site almost by accident,I wasn't leaving empty handed. I bought 4 copies. And what about the other 10 songs? Treasures.Just treasures.

- Not only is this a great Christmas album, I think it also has some of the best work that Booker T. and the MGs did as an ensemble. They hit amazing grooves on "Jingle Bells," "Winter Wonderland," and "Wish You a Merry Christmas." And on the second half of the CD, they get very soulful and mellow, with a very bluesy "Merry Christmas Baby" and a gorgeous, gospelish "Sweet Little Jesus Boy." This is sublime stuff that'll grow on you year after year.
- This is Booker T. and the MG's classic Christmas album. It is, of course, performed in their traditional soul instrumental style. If you are familiar with Booker T. and the MG's, you know what to expect. It is a lot of fun to listen to. One of the fun things about this album, is that they will play a few bars of another Christmas song during the song. For instance, "Silver Bells" features a few seconds of "Frosty the Snowman, and "We Three Kings" contains several seconds of "O Come All Ye Faithful". I would recommend this album to anyone who likes classic soul music.
- This is an ok Christmas album, but it does not live up to Booker T. And The MG's' standards. It's very mellow, tame, and quiet. Unlike many of their other recordings. Its still a nice record to put on during the holidays, but towards the end, the organ sound just drags on and on, and I feel like I'm in church. If the recording was just bumped up a notch and a few of the songs from tracks 8-11 were replaced with more catchier ones, this would be a great MGs album along with being a nice Christmas album. Still this does remind you of snow, sleighbells, and sleighriding, its just a little mellow for my tastes. If you want a real rock and roll Christmas record, check out The Ventures' Christmas Album!!
- Not knowing who Booker T was at the age of five this was always my favorite album to listen to when i was a child. I am so happy to own it myself I bought 3 copies one for me my dad (it was his album to begin with) and one for my mom. This is an absolute must have for any collection. It makes that last minute christmas gift wrapping a joy.
- Back in 1966 when the vinyl version of this CD first hit the streets, people were somewhat stunned at the jazzy instrumental treatment of Christmas traditionals. The CD is still very cool today. If you liked "Green Onions" and the other Booker T music back in the day, you're going to like this vintage CD. I was very surprised and pleased to see it available.

- Really enjoyed this album. I loved to see his family and home and he seems genuine in his faith. That makes me like his music even more. The music is found on other albums but put on this DVD in a nice package.

1 comments about Vaughan Williams Weekend: Fantasia On Greensleeves; The Lark Ascending; English Folk Song Suite.
- This is a great recording of some of Ralph(pernounced "RAFE")Vaughn Williams best work. But it is not the best you can find. For the english folk song suite, i highly recomend the recording of Neville Marriner and Academy of St.Martins in the fields. For the Lark ascending the recording of Midori and the New York Philharmonic can't be beat. For "O Clap your hands" and "O Taste and See" this is the best recordings. Except that the Kings choir could work on the diction.

3 comments about Ultimate Classical Christmas Album of All Time.
- Good mix of the expected ("Silent Night", "O Come All Ye Faithful", etc) and the unexpected (the Vivaldi Gloria, Gabrieli, Schutz). Kudos to the Sony team for uniform clarity & quality of sound, despite source material from 1959 through 1998. Word to the wise: the performance of "O Little Town of Bethlehem" credited to Marilyn Horne is actually by Eileen Farrell from her excellent "Carols for Christmas Eve" release. No disrespect to Ms Horne, who is well represented by two performances with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. If you're truly a classical music fan but don't mind a traditional carol or two, this is an excellent buy.
- If you love Christmas as much as I do, you will probably enjoy this album. It features plenty of standard favorites - especially sung by the MoTab, who seem to be a holiday staple. I probably wouldn't pay $17.95 just to hear songs like 'The Little Drummer Boy' of 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas.'
What makes this compillation interesting is the liberal sprinkling of less traditional - or, anyway, less well-known - classical pieces. Vivaldi's 'Gloria', Corelli's 'Christmas Concerto', and the opera 'Hansel and Gretel' all make an appearance. The standout, in my mind, is the ethereally beautiful 'Watt's Cradle Hymn,' which I have never seen or heard anywhere else - that one song alone makes this album worth a listen.
- Over and over we played "Die Menge der Engel" - - it is stunningly beautiful! The loftiness of the voices, wonderful.
We loved the boys/children's choruses on many of the other pieces on the album. Duets by Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavorati - - magnifico!
It is a pleasant compilation of traditional favorites and awesome classical pieces that are worth listening to again and again.

- Michael Buble just has the most wonderful voice and I was really glad that he was coming out with a Christmas album, but this one is so ridiculously short! It's good... but it's so short. Still a must for your Buble collection.
- thank you for this wonderful c.d. It is what xmas is all about. For anyone who enjoys a pure voice that gives you goose-bumps this is one disc you must own
- This cd is amazing, but I would have loved to hear "Baby It's Cold Outside" in addition to these classics!
- Before you think about shelling out the big bucks that some sellers are asking for this rare five-track Xmas EP it is worth noting that this EP is now also available as an Import 2 CD set bundled together with his first album, just search for "Michael Buble Christmas" on here.
- Beautiful voice up there with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin,Andy Williams, Well you get my drift. My ONLY complaint is there aren't enough holiday songs! Come on Michael with a voice like that you could really start a new holiday tradition!

- I brought this CD a few days after it came out.
Worship Jamz Christmas does a good job of remaking traditional Christmas/holiday songs on this CD. Some of the best tracks are Angels We Have Heard on High, The First Noel, and Joy to the World. This album is appropiate for all ages!
- We just got this CD and like it. It has upbeat music that both kids and adults can enjoy. This CD has no "Santa" songs on it. It has a nice selection of songs and they are arranged nicely.

5 comments about The Joy of Christmas.
- One of the most magnificent performances ever of holiday music comes from the combined efforts of The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, accompanied by the NY Philharmonic, conducted by Leonard Bernstein.
- This is the traditional Christmas CD by which all others will be judged. The choir is perfectly blended, and while the music is traditional, it never gets boring. Bernstein is a genius. It's a huge, lush, gorgeous mix of vocals and orchestra.
- I have loved this album since the 1960s and had owned an LP record, but had been looking for a CD. Excellent arrangements and performance. Glad I was able to track it down.
- For years I walked past the LP "The Joy Of Christmas" in record shops little knowing the treasures it contained. Now I own it on CD wish I too had grown up with this wonderful album. While I'm more used to the slightly restrained English choral tradition, "The Joy of Christmas" reveals not only the joy but all the anticipation and wonder of the Christmas message. Every carol is a delight with even the most familiar so beautifully and imaginatively arranged that it sounds fresh. From the sparkling, almost foot-tapping arrangement of "O Come, All Ye Faithful" to the hushed and exquisitely moving treatment of "Silent Night", this is in my opinion not just a great Christmas album but one of the greatest recordings of all time. I was not at all familiar with "The Twelfth Night Song" (a delectably exotic arrangement), "The Animal Carol" (humorous and very catchy), the almost chant-like Gustav Holst "Lullay, My Liking" with its fine unbilled tenor, or the lovely Mexican "La Virgen Lava Panales" but all of these have become instant favourites. What a team - The Mormon Tabernacle Choir with Richard P. Condie (who never seems to get enough credit) and The New York Philharmonic all conducted by Leonard Bernstein and all recorded on one day, Sept. 3, 1963. It must have been amazing to have been part of the "acoustic padding" audience as one reviewer was. Surely much credit must also go to the original producer John McClure and to the 1997 remastering team for recorded sound that must rival just about any produced today.
If you only ever buy one Christmas album, make it "The Joy Of Christmas".
- Raise the roof and sing praises on high! Play this if you cannot make it to church, and you will feel like you are there. The incomparable sound of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with all the religious classics. A few oddities are tagged on at the end, the Nutcracker, Children's Prayer from Hansel & Gretel and the ubiquitous Handel's Messiah.

- Maybe Stevie can't go wrong, but other producers and songwriters can. Too bad this album was made before Stevie took control of his own career. If he wrote his own original songs and produced the music, this album could have been much, much better. Instead you get one classic Motown style original ("What Christmas Means To Me"), and few great interpretations of classic Christmas songs (highlighted by "Silver Bells" and "Ave Maria"), but the rest of the original songs are sappy and flat. The string section and choral arrangements sound like something you would expect from Johnny Mathis or Andy Williams, not from Stevie Wonder. It is still a good album, just not as good as you might expect.
- a nice christmas album from stevie which was recorded in 1967 while still in his teens after his "i was made to love her" album.what is good about this album is the amount of written original material besides the traditional material.the motown originals on this album are:'someday at christmas'/'one little christmas tree'/'the day that love began'/'bedtime for toys'/'twinkle twinkle little me'/'a warm little home on a hill'/'what christmas means to me'...wonder gives dramatic performances on the traditional pieces such as 'ave maria'as stevie also puts his harmonica spin on the song, and'the little drummer boy'.the written motown originals are just as good or better than the traditional songs.on 'that's what christmas means to me'-the motown signature sound is evident on this moderate upbeat number.stevie's performances on the slow paced motown written originals such as 'the day that love began'and 'a warm little home on the hill'is legend.this is a nice holiday album from stevie.
- This Stevie Wonder album has the slow version of The Christmas Song. There are two versions of The Christmas Song that Stevie Wonder did. It would be nice if this album had the bonus track of The Christmas Song, of where Stevie Wonder is jammin' to the beat. When I heard The Christmas Song by Stevie Wonder on the radio, it was the jammin' version, instead of the slow version. I would rate this ablum as a 4 instead of a 5, because it does not have the jammin' version of The Christmas Song by Stevie Wonder. It just has the slow version of The Christmas Song by Stevie Wonder, instead. Can any body tell us, which Stevie Wonder album has the jammin' version of The Christmas Song by Stevie Wonder, instead of the slow version of The Christmas Song by Stevie Wonder?
- ... that are so much better, please check out this man's milestone masterpieces "Songs in the key of life" or "Innervisions"
- This is not Stevie's best voice, he still has some vocal maturing to do when this was recorded, but I love the innocence of this album. I always cry when I hear bed time for toys. I wish it would get some radio play, it is so approrpiate for the times.
One little Christmas tree always makes me smile.
Definitely worth a buy
