- Ok....Let us start with the MOST DREADFUL TRACK!
3. O Holy Night - Avril Lavigne & Chantal Kreviazuk:::: This would be an exceptional track is you lose TONE DEAF teeny bopper Avril Lavigne! With singers like her in the music biz makes you wonder who the HELL is giving out record deals. I would rather lavish my ears with Britney than listen to this TONE DEAF song (When Avril Lavigne opens her pie hole!) Chantal Kreviazuk sounds great and when you pair up a TONE DEAF Avril Lavigne (who opens the track) with a good singer like Chantal Kreviazuk your in trouble. I was cringing during whole first part of this song until TONE DEAF Avril STOPPED stabbing me in my ear. Anyway... the rest of the cd is boring. Dave Matthews Band: 9 out of 10 * Barenaked Ladies: 9 out of 10 * Sixpence None The Richer: 9 out of 10 * The rest is an average: 3 out or 10 * Oh yeah and 3. O Holy Night - Avril Lavigne & Chantal Kreviazuk 1 out of 10 * thanks to TONE DEAF Avril Lavigne! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR BUY THE Maybe This Christmas and SKIP THE TOO!!!! AND BTW DID I MENTION THAT Avril Lavigne IS SOOOOO TONE DEAF!!!
- I dont understand people's tiffs on here with Avril Lavigne. Whats up with this "TONE DEAF" stuff?
I think she is an amazing artist. And, having a very dynamic musician such as Chantal to be by her side makes the song even better to listen to. The Be Good Tanyas song was really well done, as was Six Pense Non The Richer, and Martina Sorbara. The others were quite good too. The only one I didnt enjoy so much was Lisa Hannigan. Christmas is supposed to be joyful... not depressing.
- After listening to "Maybe This Christmas" we were very excited to listen to this CD only to be extremely let down! This album was not only boring, but outright depressing and sad. If I was already depressed during the holidays, well this would just send me over the edge! As for Avril Lavigne's "Oh Holy Night", I must heartily disagree with some of the other comments about her song. This was, by far, the worst song! It lacked all passion and depth - rather nasal, superficial, and without any heart! And while the Flaming Lips are musical pioneers, their version of "White Christmas" leaves you wanting to plug your ears with candy canes. The sole bright spot is Guster's "Donde Esta Santa Claus", which, while cute, is not nearly up to their usual par. I don't recall listening to an album expecting another wonderful compilation only to be so let down. Please, if you want a Merry Holiday season skip this album, just keep listening to the first album, "Maybe This Christmas" and "Maybe
This Christmas Tree!
Happy Holidays!
- My favorites would be: "Donde Esta Santa Claus?", "Green Christmas", "Donna & Blitzen", and "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear".
- This sequel to Maybe This Christmas features (mostly) alt-rock performers doing Christmas songs. It features an about even mix of older Christmas songs and new ones. The very best performances here are of the very oldest songs, especially "O Holy Night" by Avril Lavigne & Chantel Kreviazuk, "Go Tell It on the Mountain" by Oh Susanna and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" by Sixpence None the Richer. The new songs aren't really all that memorable, generally speaking, although "Green Christmas" by Barenaked Ladies is good. Cute cover, though. Consider this to be a lukewarm review.

5 comments about Magic of Christmas: Call Me Claus.
- I've read the reviews people have posted and I don't believe they do this record justice, it seems most of them are just complaining because it's Garth Brooks. So let me clear this up, this "Call Me Claus" release of "The Magic of Christmas" is the same album, with three additional tracks on it, so if you already bought "The Magic of Christmas" look into buying the Call Me Claus single, which is also available on amazon.com, it has the three tracks that were added on it. Ok, now that situation is explained, this really is a good Christmas album, done with the Garth-flare that many people enjoy, but if you're too ignorant to see past things you have previously disliked from Garth and don't actually listen to the music you're not going to like it. But for those folks that buy and album for the songs, this is a great one....it's has many classics on it as well as some new great Holiday songs. Listen to the sound clips available and if you like the sound of it, as I do, purchase the album, don't automatically disregard it because you don't like Garth. It really is a nice Christmas CD for your collection, and I definetly recommend it.
- I don't usually like Christmas, but this album kind of touched me. Last Christmas my sisters and I sat cozy around a warm trash fire on the road in front of our home and enjoy the lovely, uplifting holiday tunes from this album. But then my father would come stumbling home from the bar late on Christmas Eve ranting about how much he hates everything. Then he would command us to make him dinner and turn the music off while he passes out while watching porn.
- I am not a big country music fan, or Garth Brooks fan, in fact I own only 4 country music albums. However, this Christmas album is one of my favorite in my collection! My favorites are "Call me Claus" and "Mary Had a Lamb". "Call Me Claus" is one of the funnest, upbeat Christmas songs in my collection. "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is one of those songs about the real meaning of Christmas. I didn't know what to expect when I bought this CD, but I have really enjoyed it!
- Amazon has done it again. Their advertising needs improvement. The cd is good but it was a cheap ploy to add 3 songs to the cd and drop 3 other songs that were on the original "...The Magic Of Christmas". A buyer would be better off with the original title and buying the 3-track "Call Me Claus" cd, instead of buying this 2001 version with three songs missing. There are no EXTRA TRACKS on this cd.
- This CD is the reissue of The Magic of Christmas, which was originally released in 1999, that now includes three new songs from the made-for-TV movie Call Me Claus. The three songs removed from the 1999 version to make room for these songs are Go Tell It On the Mountain, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and White Christmas-- all of which appear on Garth's first holiday release, Beyond the Season, from 1992. So, if you have Beyond the Season and don't already own the 1999 version of The Magic of Christmas, then this version is the one for you.
You will not need the 3-song Call Me Claus single UNLESS you have the original issue of The Magic of Christmas and actually care enough about Garth's holiday tunes to track it down.

- I love this CD! This is one of my favorite Christmas CD's because there are several good songs. I actually had this on cassette when it was first released and I haven't gotten tired of it after all these years.
- An astonishing display of vocal range and artistic perfection,no one can even come close. The singing is obviously superb but the dual disc technology is amazing especially for audio and videophiles. If you love mariah or simply love to have a quality holliday cd,get this version..your expensive multichannel hometheater system will thank you.
- Only reason I give this a higher score than the original is for the DualDisc videos. I paid 11 bucks for this and overall, am satisfied with the 5 outstanding tracks on it.
All I Want For Christmas Is You (Best X-Mas song ever. Made Me tear up twice! No other songs do that!)
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) Lovely. The second best song here. It's so sad. Deals with longing for love and loneliness with nothing better to do than to think about HIM...*Le Sigh*
Silent Night
O Holy Night
The only filler is Hark! and Jesus, Oh...
Glad I got it though.
Miss You Most is the second best X-Mas track I've ever heard.
4.4 stars.
- One side worked fine as a normal CD.
Then I tried the other side, and was disappointed at first to find that the "videos" were only one picture per tune.
Only later I found that there really were some music videos on the disc, but it takes a little work to find them with the menu system.
So there are really (at least) 3 different ways to play this disc!
I liked the music.
- Although I was not following Mariah's career as close as I used to at the time of this release, I was very excited when I learned that the X-mas videos were going to be available for the first time on DVD (or in any format really). I give 5 stars to the Original Album and performances of the original songs. But I really did not like much the hip-hop versions of some of the songs and the animated videos. Otherwise this would have been a perfect package. But I guess they wanted to portrait Mariah as she is now and not the adult contemporary artist she used to be. My only major complaint is the quality of the new booklet. It seems that they lost the original artwork masters because the new booklet was obviously a copy of one from the old CD and the new track information was just added on the blank spaces because it is much darker in color than the rest. Hopefully next time they will have more consideration in doing a quality booklet, Mariah deserves no less.

- I got this album because I am a very big fan of Terrence Mann and Angela Lansbury and Charles Durning are living legends. The songs on this CD is quite enjoyable. Jerry Herman's a genius. You have to see the movie though, because the songs really come alive.
- As ever, the absolute star inside Angela Lansbury exhibits itself in this wonderful CD. A real gem -- just listen to the joy in her voice. A definite buy for any fan -- you won't be disappointed.
- First i want to say that this CD didn't come directly from Amazon.Com, Even if you order something thru Amazon and it comes from another source you can expect the same wonderful service and Amazon is still there to keep you informed every step of the way. I really have no reason anymore to buy from anyone else. Amazon.Com is the best. Now for my review. I'M IMPRESSED!!! This CD is great and to my surprise the first chapter which is the opening credits or overture is about 6 minutes which is longer than the movie version. This music by Jerry Herman is outstanding. It's funny because i've watched this movie so many times i have memorized most of the dialog. When you play the CD all the songs are exactly as in the movie but without any of the speaking parts, it's just singing but during the speaking parts the orchestra is just playing and i find myself saying the lines of the actors. I'm crazy nuts about this CD and extremely happy. If you have seen the movie get the CD it's well worth the money. Now if we can only convince someone to turn the VHS version into a DVD version i would be even happier.
- Great show and hard to find but now have it and enjoy it every holiday season came in so fast also. Great shape
- This soundtrack and the movie was really quite good. I was really surprised. The songs were touching moves well with the story. Most of all music really got you into the holiday spirit. The movie was rare catch to see. Angela did great. I would really like to see this show make it to the broadway stage one day? I think its a good one because Mrs. clause lived in Santa's shadow all her life, and she gets her own spotlight in this film. I would really love to see (Cathy Rigby aka peter pan) take on this role on the broadway stage. This would give her a huge come back now that her peter pan role is done. She is also a grandma in real life, so I don't think she would have a problem fillinig Angela's shoes. This would be a cute show to make into a live performance on the Broadway stage in NYC. Thats a good way to start before it would even go on tour, because the story takes place in the early 1900's in New York City. I think Cathy can really pull this role off really well. I know "Peter pan" will always be her signture role ever. But I think any broadway director or producter should take a long look at this movie/show and the lyrics and story. I think this would become a broadway hit, or even a classic. I just hope they put this on tv at some point, during the chrismas season this year. Anway Have a Happy Holidays and a healthy new year.

4 comments about Christmas With the Trapp Family Singers.
- The first 18 tracks on this CD are from an LP of the same name that was a family favorite of ours since the 60s. The vocals are very precise, with noticeable German accents (especially on "Jesus Rest Your Head"). The Trapps, directed by Fr. Wasner, perform songs from their native Austria, including the hauntingly beautiful Scheibendudler (a kind of solemn jodler). Some listeners may not much like their rendition of traditional English or American songs (Deck the Halls, Jesus Rest Your Head). The less familiar Latin and foreign songs are a real treat. Favorites are "A la Nanita" (Spanish), Nu ar de Jul Igen (Swedish), and "Zu Bethlehem Geboren" (German). Most songs are done a capella, although there is recorder accompaniment on one or two. A songbook containing the first 18 songs with music is available from Amazon. All in all, a fine recording and great change of pace from the more usual Christmas music.
- This recording was my first experience with the Trapp Family Singers (other than knowing the story from The Sound of Music). I cannot state how pleasently surprised I was.
First of all, the technical quality of the recording is extraordinary. The selections were originally mastered between 1951 - 1953 by Deutsche Grammophon. Yet, despite the early dates, they sound like they were recorded yesterday.
The performances are even more extraordinary. The a capella settings of these traditional Christmas songs are rich in harmony and performed with a clarity rarely heard today. Of particular interest is the Michael Praetorius setting of Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen (Lo how a rose err blooming), Deck the hall with boughs of holly, and the Bach setting of Lobt Gott, ihr Christen alle gleich.
The family is conducted by Dr. Franz Wasner and the enclosed booklet offers a wonderful history of the family by writer Steven Ledbetter.
Overall, this recording has quickly become a new Christmas favorite of mine. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
- I have the original lp's from which this collection is based. Originally, this was released on two volumes on vinyl. My editions were made in England. Side Two of the second volume is completey missing on this cd. They really should have made this a double cd set or released it in the separate volumes it was originally in. What is missing: Ava Maria-Canon; I Sing of a Maiden; El Rorro (The Rocking of the Child).
The recording is still as beautiful as ever on cd, but I do hate that they butchered this release and did not give us the full monty.
- The item was exactly as discribed and arrived in good condition. I would gladly buy from this seller again...anytime!

- Nana is a huge star in mainland Europe with a string of hit singles in several countries. She only had one big hit in Britain but her albums have always enjoyed healthy UK sales. I don't know the extent of her following in America but this Christmas album was finally given an American release in 2003 to coincide with a tour. Nana sings in several different languages and you can hear some of them on this collection, including English, French, German and Greek.
The only songs here that Nana sings in English are Deck the halls, O come all ye faithful, Hark the herald angels sing, White Christmas, God rest ye merry gentlemen, All through the night and Lullaby. Five songs are taken from an album of German Christmas songs, including Stille nacht heilage nacht (Silent night), and O tannenbaum (O Christmas tree). Nana sings Minuet Chretien (O holy night) and L'enfant au tambour (Little drummer boy) both in French. Ave Maria is here as well but I haven't worked out in which language. I recognize some other songs here from the tune, but there are plenty of high quality songs that I don't recognize at all (or only recognize from other foreign language recordings). I have the French edition of this album, which has the title Les plus beaux Noels du monde, but the track listing and front cover artwork is the same as the American edition. Frankly, it doesn't matter what language Nana sings in - if you enjoy any of her music, you'll love this album.
- When it comes to singing in many languages, Nana Mouskouri is among the best. This album covers beautiful carols in French, English, Greek, German, Italian, and Latin. Her clear voice and perfect diction give a wonderful glimpse into the traditional Christmas songs of many lands. I especially enjoyed hearing "Kalin Iméran" - it's not easy to find Greek carols and this one is excellent.
- I have always enjoyed the voice of Nanna Mouskouri for many years. She has a voice of a nightingale. This cd is full of beautiful international Christmas music. If you enjoy music in multi languages then you totally agree with my rating of this cd...
- ASIN: B0000Z4YF
Very good music for Christmas and perfect singer(I think one of the best in Greece).
- Nana Mouskouri continues to be one of my favorite female singers. Her voice is amazing...and she sings in many different languages, too.

- If you found this because you knew what you were looking for.....well you probably know what I am gonna say. If you accidentally stumbled upon this read on. This is a 2 record set of the best Christmas music in any language you will ever hear. To put it mildly and generically, the music rocks. Guaranteed, you will listen to this CD well into July!!! The salsa has an edge reminiscent of the way salsa should be played but seldom is. From those of us who grew up with this playing every December and Hector, Willie, Yomo & Co., welcome to music that will truly put the celebration in your party. Purchase both CD's and enjoy.
- This Cd is the crowning achievment of Willie Colon's career. This is the best Christams Album of all time... and I'm not exagerating. All of these tracks a umbelievably great. Canto a borinquen is hands down a classic. I really don't know what more i can say. Please respect this album for the greatness that it is. I love this album....
- I had heard very good comments of this production since long ago and, in many opportunities, I was close to get one of those old vynil-made records but I didn't. For more than 30 years, I have listened to hundreds of times songs like "Canto a Borinquen", Traigo la Salsa", "La Murga Panameña" and the song which I like the most: "Aires de Navidad" (far the most famous of all of these group of salsas in my country, Perú). However, it is not the same to hear these songs evenly one here and other there than hearing all of them together, in the sequence presented in this CD. The context of them is really impressive and this makes the difference. This CD is really an outstanding production. The sound recorded is original all along and the presentation of the CD is quite illustrative, accompanied by a small brochure that gives us a good view of the history of these salsas and their meaning as a part of the culture of Puerto Rico. Dear friends, if you are fans of Salsa, buy it new or used but don't lose the pleasure of listen to all this precious music and let you be "assaulted" by Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe and their friens of Fania,no matter if Christmas time has gone..
- Excellent CD for Puerto Ricans and latinos alike. Awesome Pefecto para las navidades. Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe the perfect combination with YOMO Toro on this CD all at once. Trust me it's a great buy at any cost.

5 comments about A Carnegie Hall Christmas Concert.
- December 8, 1991 must have been a great night in New York City, especially at Carnegie Hall. On this evening, three outstanding performers backed by a great orchestra and two different choirs joined forces for a Christmas concert. The fruit of this effort is the recording A CARNEGIE HALL CHRISTMAS CONCERT.
When Kathleen Battle, Frederica von Stade, and Wynton Marsalis collaborate in a concert, how can it be anything but an event? This disc shows just how phenomenal event this concert must have been. Each performer had ample opportunity to demonstrate the performer's individual talents, but there are also many duets with Battle and von Stade as well as works where all three perform together. The Orchestra of St. Luke's is conducted by Andre Previn and has a sumptuous sound. The American Boychoir and the Christmas Concert Chorus add backups that enhance so many of the arrangements. Battle and Von Stade's rendition of "Gesu Bambino" is probably one of the best recordings of this beautiful carol. The "Evening Prayer" from HANSEL AND GRETEL is a highlight as well. Winton Marsalis and his septet display their talents in jazz versions of "Winter Wonderland" and "We Three Kings." There is a great Christmas medley that concludes the disc that is simply vocal and orchestral fireworks at their best. My only critique, or pet peeve might be the better way of expressing it, would be "The Twelve Days of Christmas." This particular arrangement has the gifts in a different order than the standard version, but since this could be open to dispute, and in the spirit of the Christmas holiday, I won't consider this a strike against the album. I'll say it again: December 8, 1991 must have been a great night in New York City, especially at Carnegie Hall.
- this was an okay cd. it had some good songs i liked, but it was not the best christmas cd i've heard.
- I saw this broadcast in 1991 or 1992 and have it on video. My only regret is that the concert is not available as a DVD, because the wonder is as much in the impassioned and dramatic 'conversations' between the three stars as in the sounds they produce. Still, until then, this is unforgettable stuff.
- Oh my, this is just one of my absolute favorite Christmas CDs. It has a wonderful variety of music on it, with excellent musicians. Kathleen Battle, Frederica von Stade, and Winton Marsalis just shine on this CD. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves music, especially classical.
- In my opinion, this is one of the best classical Christmas albums. It's not only for classical music fans. It features familiar classical songs as well as hymns and secular Christmas songs. In other words, it's easy on the ear for those who are not usual fans of high pitched soprano sounds.
