  1. Contains a good assortment of Roger Whittaker's Christmas carols, including the surprisingly difficult to find Ding Dong Merrily on High. Although one of my favorites, Roger's version of this carol is not available on iTunes and isn't included on his other Christmas albums.

  2. I am very pleased with the music on this CD. It has two songs that I love. The first is "The Holly And The Ivy" and the second is "Home For Christmas". I first heard "Home For Christmas" several years ago on the radio and I have been looking for a CD that it was on so that I could add it to my Christmas music collection and I am thrilled to finally find it.

  1. I've got pretty much all of the Craig Chaquico CD output, and
play it all on regular basis, this is one great guitar player.

What a disappointment Holiday is in comparison to his previous work.
I hope this is just a temporary loss of direction.

  2. While I truly love his work both Solo and Starship, this was a missed opportunity.

Don't get me wrong...this is a great album. His playing is incredible!

Where this misses the mark is that Craig had a "golden opportunity" to create an incredible and imaginative Holiday (Christmas/New Year) CD and he missed the mark.

Very little of this CD is going to instill the Holiday Spirit in anyone
and that is the bad part. The closing cut is about the only one that comes close.

I don't know if this was a contractual obligation, if Craig doesn't observe or believe much in the holidays or if it was just an oversight that this was missed.

This CD should have showcased his amazing talents and gifts. It should have been the CD that made the holidays warm, cheerful and memorable. But, there is little on this CD to instill that in anyone.

If you just want a CD of nice guitar based tunes. This is GREAT! If you want something to make your holidays more memorable or a soundtrack to your holiday get together, this one misses the mark!

  1. Anne's voice never sounded better and it's a delight to see and hear the talents of Canadian Roch Voisine (who's phenomenal voice sounds like Jim Croce) and Barenaked Ladies. With lush scenery of Toronto landmark The Old Mill as the backdrop, there's plenty of music (and two performances of Elvis Stojko) to keep young and old happy. Despite some trite dialogue with the guests on this special, the musical highlights include the gospel-sounding "No Room at the Inn," and, quite surpisingly, the inspired harmony of Anne singing with her husband, son, and daughter. Who knew!?! A MUST for Anne Murray fans and those who appreciate gifted voices and harmony.

  2. Anne Murray, The Barenaked Ladies, Rock Voisine, and her family join you in an hour of singing carols and rejoicing in the Christmas Spirit. A Christmas like no other, it will bring your spirits of Christmas right along with you, and once again Anne Murray has succeeded in bringing her voice into your heart and making your soul sing along.

  3. The richness of her voice and the warmth of her style make you feel that Anne Murray is having this Christmas gathering just for you.

The beautiful setting lends itself to holiday photography and there is excellent sound on this DVD. While the jacket lists one of her guests as "international sensation Roch Voisine," I never heard of this Canadian favorite. Now that I have heard him, I'll be looking for more of his work. Roch introduces a song he wrote just for this party, CHRISTMAS IS CALLING. His guitar work is outstanding. Anne and Roch follow with an unusual medley WE THREE KINGS, THE LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, THE STORY OF THE THREE BELLS (about Little Jimmy Brown) and DECK THE HALLS. Their voices blend beautifully. It would be a treat to hear more of their duets on another Christmas special. It's worth the price of the DVD just to hear these stars sing together.

Two ice rink segments feature champion skater Elvis Stojko and there's a segment where Anne sings with the pop rock group Barenaked Ladies. There are plenty of old standards but it's nice to have some contemporary Christmas songs, too. THIS SEASON WILL NEVER GROW OLD with words and music by Canada's Rita MacNeil is now on my list of contemporary favorites. It's a joy to have Anne's voice fill my home with this song along with all the others on this program.

  4. Anne Murray sait comment nous faire rêver avec ce spécial de Noël. Des classiques de Noël interprétés comme seule elle sait le faire. Je le redécouvre année après année.

  1. The greatest Christmas Album by anybody ever. Really. My grandmother used to play the original LP version of this album every Christmas. Every time I hear it I think of a warm fire, turkey, ham, dressing and pies stacked to the ceiling, and the thrill of a child to see the presents under the tree. Nostalgia aside, keep your Bing Crosby's, Perry Como has to be the best master of the Christmas Carol in the English language.

  2. I remember listening to this album when I was a child. I have always loved it!! I found a copy of the album, and I went to listen to it in December, and it was warped. I am buying the CD so I will have it for this Christmas!! And to the music lover in Canada: I have a 1961 copy of this album, and Santa Clause Is Coming To Town and O Little Town of Bethlehem aren't on it.

  3. My parents had the box set of '45s, which may have been the original release in the 1940s, and these were my favorite Christmas recordings to listen to while I was growing up. Our set is missing a few of the '45s, but it does include my all-time favorite "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," which was missing from the later LP release, and now missing on this CD release. It's a swinging arrangement, with Perry doing a voice over - as the Christmas preparations get a bit too hectic, Perry proclaims "I'm going out to get a few haircuts, you cats go ahead and sing, I'll be right back!"

  4. Perry truly recorded some of the greatest Christmas music of all time, this album, while not his best Christmas offering, is still better than most. As for the missing songs, I think some may be mistaking this album with A Perry Como Christmas, his best Christmas offering, in my humble opinion, which contains the "haircut" version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town and a medley that includes O Little Town of Bethlehem. That said, if you are looking to buy one and only one of Perry's Christmas collections I would go with The Greatest Christmas Songs, a great compilation of his many Christmas albums, although be forewarned - the version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town on Greatest Christmas Songs is not the "haircut" version.

    Merry Christmas

  5. This album means Christmas.

I remember playing the LP version of these 1940's selections every year. From the beautiful opening rendition of "T'was..." to the rousing closer, this is a collection to remember.

Much has been made of the quality of Como's voice. He was never better than in these sessions. But what truly separates this from all other Christmas albums are the arrangements. From the soft chorals of "Silent Night" to the inspired counterpoint of "The 12 Day...," the musicians blend with Como's warmth and create a texture rare in pop.

As an added bonus, even the 'original' tunes are inspired. "That Christmas Feeling" is certainly not out of place among the more traditional favorites.

As noted, two of the original sides aren't here--but a quick search of itunes can get you those, too, for $1.98.

All of this adds to up delightful holiday listening year after year.

5 comments about 20 Greatest Christmas Songs.
  1. With Boney M.'s big selling Christmas album from 1981, producer Frank Farian recorded six new Christmas songs with Liz Mitchell and Reggie Tsiboe (who'd replaced dancer Bobby Farrell in 1982) in the summer of 1984; they were, however, only released at the time on a South African LP, but when Boney M. had split up in 1986, Farian wanted to keep the kettle boiling and dug out these disappointingly mediocre recordings, remixed the whole 1981 album but two songs, and released the whole mess in November 1986. And the result is awful! Get the original "Christmas Album" instead (it is available on CD) when you want to get in a Christmas mood, this CD sounds as supermarket muzak ...

  2. There's something about the subtle combination of camp and Christmas. This was a classic in my house when I was younger: my parents owned the tape, though Boney M was not quite their demographic's genre. Fond memories include listening to this as I walked through the malls in mid-December, my mother running it on a continuous loop while she did her holiday baking, and having blaring in the background on Christmas Eve while the folks hosted their annual fondue (though that says it all right there). I suppose this was a trendy album at the time, perhaps more akin to the latest offering from the Barenaked Ladies (though never as grim as "Hung for the Holidays"). It struck a chord at the innocence for the holidays, kid-friendly, spiritual -- but not overtly and in your face. Just a happy, upbeat Christmassy-type album.

  3. I remember Boney M from the days of disco (late 70s, early 80s) and wasn't a huge fan, but I admit I bought this album because the medley of Mary's Boy Child and O My Lord gets played a lot on the radio every Christmas season. Happily, the whole album is good, with the group sounding mellow (but still with a prominent beat) at the right times. For me a good Christmas CD combines some old favorites (this one has Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, The First Noel, Silent Night, etc) with some pretty but unfamiliar songs (Hear Ye the Message, Zion's Daughter, Petit Papa Noel). Boney M can sound delicate and lullabyish on a song like Petit Papa Noel or A Child Is Born, but almost anthemic and bouncy on Joy to the World and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. If you're like me, you get tired of the radio's constant play of Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Burl Ives, etc, and this is a nice alternative--still has that 'sweet' sound you expect of a Christmas CD, but also with that toe-tapping, shake-your-body quality you'd expect from a group that was part of the disco era. Incidentally, the album ends with a very rocky version of Auld Lang Syne--not only is the beat good, but you actually get to hear the 2nd and 3rd voices of that old song.

  4. Each song in this album is great. I used to never enjoy Christmas Carols, until I once heard one of these songs on the radio. I purchased the album and every song is simply great.

  5. I would say this is the best Christmas carol one can ever hear.

  1. While many of the songs on the two CDs are "typical" Christmas, with many of them classics, what sets this box set apart is the DVD. The DVD highlights many of Thomas Kinkade's Chritmas or winter works of art, accompanied by Christmas music in the background. The slide show and the choice of songs makes the DVD an outstanding choice. The added bonus are the two CDs. My mother-in-law is a big T. Kinkade fan and after seeing the DVD, had me hunt down "The Night Before Christmas" for her too.

  1. This collection is very nice. Children have a beutiful, pleasant and funny voices. And it has all famous songs!

  2. We played these cds many times throughout the holidays. They made excellent background music and were so easy to sing-a-long whenever the mood hit.

  3. My 11 year old son compained that our Christmas music was boring and depressing (it was all classical instrumental or sung by dead people such as Bing Crosby). I searched for new music on Amazon and found these three CD's. We love them. There are a couple uplifting instrumental songs and the others are sung by children. My partner gets tired of the children's voices, but I think it's perfect.

  4. I bought this hoping to introduce my kids (ages 4 and 6) to some of my favorite holiday songs and was not disappointed. They played it over and over from early December through mid-January and would walk around singing the songs. It really added to the holiday spirit in our house. I especially like the way the songs are divided into silly, classic and religious on the 3 CDs. The only songs missing are the Dreidel song and Feliz Navidad. My only complaint is that many of the songs are sung in a really high key, making it difficult for me (and sometimes even my kids) to sing along. Great purchase, though - worth the price!

  5. The signers may not have a perfect training, but it's fun to listen to the songs they tried so hard to sing. It's almost perfect!!

  1. It was very enjoyable and exactly what I was looking for. Amazon is a great place to shop for hard to find stuff. Most music stores did not have this, so I was thrilled to find it here.

  2. AccuHolidays Please take this off!
Regis has to be one of the worst vocalists I have ever heard in my life who has produced a for sale recording.

  3. I enjoyed this album very much. Regis does a good job in his own style and sounds great! It is not your typical collection of Christmas Carols, but the songs are definitely of the season. Delivery of each song is definitely Regis and an honest rendition of each song depicting his own heart and as he sees it.

  4. Ok.. hang it up. I had to listen to your freaking promo during your show a few years ago every day. You suck!

  5. Many years ago, Rhino records had the Golden Throats: The Great Celebrity Sing Off collection of actors and entertainers who try to sing (such major examples include william Shatner The Transformed Man, Leonard Nimoy Mr. Spock's Music from Outer Space, and Sebastian Cabot Sebastian Cabot, Actor/Bob Dylan, Poet) ...well this album should join the heap

I love Regis the talk show host. I love Pasword and Millionare games shows. However when it comes to sing these standard Christmas Carols, MR " I Am Only One Man" should stay as a talk show host. He may do a night club act, but this does not translate to this CD

These twelve Christmas carol seems a waste of CD space (Sorry Rege!) .He does get a little help from his family and friends, but it dont really help much. He has his wife Joy in an offkeyed 'Baby its Cold Outside'. He has Donald "You're Fired " Trump on Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" (you know Rudy was not fired!) and Steve Tyrell on ;Marshallow World'. So where is Kathie or Kelly when you need them Big Daddy?

Regis does like most actor who try to be singers. He speaks the words like a poem. It is nice that he speaks in his Regis style. His voice as a non singer isnt bad, just its not singing

Well Uncle Rege (he seems to be everyone UNCLE), lets not do a CD of your favorite Irish tunes, OKAY?

  1. This is a bit of nostalgia from my childhood. I'm not a John Denver fan but rather a Muppets fan, and wanted to have the CD because of the memories it brings back.

  2. IF you are a Muppets fan, then this Christmas compilation with John Denver is a MUST for your Christmas holiday collection. And Miss Piggy is true to her character. You'll enjoy this! I included "The Twelve Days Of Christmas," "Little Saint Nick," "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "Deck The Halls" and "Christmas Is Coming" in my Christmas Favorites Collection. ENJOY!

  3. What an enjoyable CD! John Denver at his finest and the fun Muppets with Jim Hensen as Kermit the Frog. Christmas songs take on a bitter-sweet flavor when these two team up with the rest of the Muppets to make a Christmas CD that everyone can love. The Twelve Days of Christmas is an original with Miss Piggy stealing the show. This CD can be played any time of the year. The first 100 degree day will find me listening in my air conditioned car!

  4. Not only did I think this is this great for adults but my kids have asked me to stop playing it over and over. This is one of my favorite albums ever. When the River Meets the Sea and It's in Every One of Us are fabulous songs. If you have one ounce of kid in you that part of you will love it and it is much about the deeper Xmas experience.

  5. This wonderful album is actually the soundtract from a television show. I copied the original on an old Beta tape years ago and kept that old machine just so I could watch this one show every Christmas. Eventually the old girl died ( the tape, not the machine). Can someone please tell me why this show has never been released on DVD? I've written to everyone I know and I can never get an answer.
