  1. The first CD is filled with popular classic wedding songs and is really good, but the last CD is music that would make your guests think they were trapped in an elevator filled with easy listening music. I cannot understand why someone would compile those songs for a wedding!

  2. The music is beautiful just for listening. The first CD could be used in a wedding. The 2nd CD contains instrumental versions of the songs which is soothing and peaceful; it could also be used in a wedding, but not for a reception. I did not buy this to use in a wedding - just for the music and I was not disappointed. It's a nice background for meditation, or remembering your own wedding. I just bought a second one for some friends who are getting married. And the price is right.

  3. INSTRUMENTAL!! Don't expect vocals. Other than that, it is a nice collection.

  1. This 90's recording is a worthy follow-up to the 1950's "Merry Christmas" album. Four decades has brought out the more mature warmth of Mathis' golden voice, while maintaining the charm he has always possessed for this material. While there are a few overlapping signature songs ('Silent Night', 'Winter Wonderland' and 'Sleigh Ride'), most of the numbers on "A Personal Collection" are whimsical originals, possessing a beautifully organic flow of sentiment. From 'Marshmallow World' to 'Christmas Waltz', and into 'We Need A Little Christmas' and the ubiquitious 'Most Wonderful Time of the Year', Mathis manages to single-handedly throw off the "Scrooge-iness" of the holiday hub-bub with a genuine outpouring of equal parts heart, mirth and sentiment. This, together with his earlier work, provides the perfect backdrop to decking the halls and lighting the yule log.

  2. This CD has lots of favorite Christmas carols and is great to listen to while decorating or wrapping gifts.

  3. Johnny is a great christmas music singer so this cd is one of my favorates

  4. His soft, smooth voice perfectly reflects the gentle joyful subject of these songs. It's a lovely background for any Christmas gathering-- dinner, present exchange, reflection on the "Reason for the Season".

  5. Johnny Mathis is a wonderful singer. His voice is so smooth. I wanted something with the song "We Need A Little Christmas." I got that and a whole lot more. I loved listening to the cd during the holidays. It was a great addition to my Christmas collection.

5 comments about Christmas with Sandi Patti: The Gift Goes On.
  1. This is a nice cd of Christmas songs that has a very strong Christian element. The non-traditional Christmas songs start out well but don't seem to go anywhere and just sound repetitious. The best part to me were the two medleys of traditional Christmas songs. Ms. Patti (Patty?)'s voice and technique always reminded me of other singers, they didn't sound unique. Unless you particularly want Christian songs, I cannot recommend this cd as more than nice. Onward with the quest to add new Christmas cds to the small collection of gems I've located over the years.

  2. I loved this CD. Sandi's voice lifts you up and gets you in the Christmas spirit. The song "The Gift Goes On" is an excellent children's Christmas song and "Bethlehem Morning" which is my favorite, touches my heart and is very inspirational. This entire album is very upbeat and praises God. I highly recommend this CD.

  3. This mid-80's release from one of the best female vocalists of our time is a charmer. It's been a family favorite since we got it several years after it came out.

The collection is actually over half original songs, but still manages to feel Christmassy right from the start. It opens with the fun "Worship the King" and after a medley of traditional carols, goes to the equally fun title song. The version of "O Holy Night" on this CD is one of my favorites anywhere, and ranks above her rendition on her second Christmas CD. The other highlight is "Bethlehem Morning," which focuses on the impact of Jesus' birth on us today and always. I have heard other people sing the song, but this is my favorite version.

If you're a fan of Sandi Patty's other 80's albums, you'll love this one because it's very similar musically to them. There are several songs that allow her to show off her amazing vocal range without overpowering the song or album as a whole.

This is one album I look forward to listening to every year at Christmas time.

  4. Sandi Patti's voice is so like Christine Wyrtzen's. Sandi Patti has touched the hearts of millions who buy her wonderful albums and this great Christmas Album "The Gift Goes On" is no exception! I love the "Christmas Was Ment For Children" is a wonderful song full of love to reach a child and I really like it. God has given us all great gifts and he has turely made the "Gift That Goes On" everyday in Sandi's life. Buy this album today if you are looking for a good Christmas album. Sandi will be sure to "warm" your heart right away as you listen to her voice! I am sure I have convinced you at this point to but the album so WHAT are you waiting for! Click on "add to shopping cart" now!

  5. Sandi Patty's voice is pure, lyrical--simply gorgeous--and this remains my favorite Christmas album. She is a stellar musician, and no one has surpassed her yet for sheer vocal quality and ability. The songs are beautiful. "Bethlehem Morning" is reminiscent of Barbra Streisand in style, but its message reaches beyond anything Streisand ever dreamt of.

  1. I have never really enjoyed listening to "Jewish" music until this recording! What a fun romp through the holidays, simply the best sounding and most playable music I've heard in years. These people can really play, and the lyrics are easy and memorable. But it is the catchy tunes I find myself humming, and my kids always want to hear Sing Shalom, all the year through! I highly recommend this CD, especially for interfaith or sorta-faith families. Makes us want more from the Allards!

  1. I have a love/hate relationship with Lorie Line. I love about 1/3 of her releases and hate the others. Her first Sharing the Seasons release was, in my mind, superb from start to finish. I love the peacefulness and simplicity of her music, when she doesn't let it be overcome by technology. I was disappointed in this release. I could be off target with my assessment, but it seems heavily influenced by Manheim Steamroller, of which I am not a fan. Lorie does best when she sticks with her roots and the simple, exquisite piano arrangements and leaves the tech music to others.

  2. I love Lorie Line's work and this cd is perfect, especially for the Christmas Season. Her music is so strong and powerful. I love listening to it over and over! This is a really good cd to buy!

  3. Contrary to other reviewers' notions, I believe Line's technological additions to this CD make it even more spectacular. Lorie Line continues to spread the magic of the holiday season through her upbeat and unique style! A must have for any Holiday celebration!

  4. Classy, though not one of my first picks off the self during the holiday season. Because it has a non-traditional flavor which gives the album some good points and a few drawbacks. The performance of Lorie Line and her Pop Chamber Orchestra vividly present a variety of music on this volume. What I love is the touch of harmonica in most of the songs, especially notable in Go Tell It On The Mountain. Plus Lorie Line's piano playing is as beautiful as a music box in track number five: Once In Royal David's City and number eight: Gesu Bambino, as well as number ten: I Wonder As I Wander. These songs plus a few more, share that trait of sweetness, coupled with timely background harmonies from the orchestra strings, (that include; mandolin, violin, cello, guitar and Celtic harp). The real show stopper is the rendition of Frosty The Snowman, a fun and energetic song that really lets out the brass, and will often make me hit the repeat button once or twice. Track nine; Auld Lang Syne, also has a bit of that same characteristic, though it's not quite as strong.

But when it comes to track numbers six and seven I once again remember why I often over look this album during the holiday season. Hark The Herald Angels Sing has an atmospheric sound of wind through the trees. An attention getter of course, if you like that kind of stuff, but for me it's one special effect that I could have done without. Then there is The Little Drummer Boy that starts with an almost African beat of drumming, an interesting distinction, but it still sounds a bit out of place.

If you're looking for a slight departure from the common holiday instrumental music this CD has the fine quality and variety of instruments that will likely fulfill your fancy. Nicely composed, the combination of songs offered here will round out your holiday selection. [review author: tilley_traveler]

  1. I hear the song, "This Gift", on the radio a lot every Christmas and love it so much so I tried to find the album at the stores for the past couple years but couldn't find it. I was ecstatic when I finally found it at amazon.com, accidentally, at the time I was purchasing Nick's new album, What's Left of Me. Thank you guys; I'm one happy gal now and definitely a customer for life!

The album is amazing. I can't stop listening to it even in May and June. The blending of their soulful voices is so pleasing to the senses and one can't deny Nick's talent. I personally prefer listening to the classic Christmas songs but once I heard this group's style and harmony, I was hooked and love their voices.

I love Nick's solo albums and I would like more songs from him, but I would also like to see 98 Degrees reunite and make beautiful and soulful songs once again.

  2. I really enjoy The Best of 98 Degrees Christmas Collection CD. It's peppy music and fun to listen to.

  1. This CD compiles the "best" songs from Dean Martin's two Christmas albums (1959's A Winter Romance & 1966's The Dean Martin Christmas Album), plus the 1953 single "The Christmas Blues". Some songs appear twice on this disc, because Dean recorded them for both of his Christmas albums. The songs from A Winter Romance are "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!", "White Christmas", "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm", "Baby, It's Cold Outside", "A Winter Romance", "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" and "Winter Wonderland" (don't ask me why "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" was on an album of "romantic" songs). The songs from The Dean Martin Christmas Album are "Silver Bells", "Winter Wonderland", "Blue Christmas", "Jingle Bells", "A Marshmallow World", "Silent Night", "I'll Be Home For Christmas", "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" and "White Christmas". Dean was a great singer of traditional pop songs, who projected a boyish sense of fun with his singing voice. He does quite well with these songs. His version of "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" is the best version of that song I've ever heard. Avoid the newer version of this CD, which has a contemporary remix of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with Martina McBride dubbed in (nothing against her, but why tamper with a classic?).

  2. Just a note on sound quality. Sixteen tracks are wide true stereo. Only track eleven is mono. Great fidelity.

  3. THIS A WONDERFUL DEAN MARTIN CHRISTMAS CD. VOICE IS IMPECCABLE AS USUAL AND THIS IS A FESTIVE HOLIDAY CD. DEAN MARTIN IS WONDERFUL.

  4. Excellent Christmas / Dean Martin album. Much better than a Frank Sinatra Christmas album I bought last year.

  5. If you love Dean Martin, you will love this. His smooth, easy way of singing is a joy to the ears. If you're unfamiliar with Dino's music and are just looking for some Christmas music, watch out. You will fall in love with this fabulous singer!
