  1. We purchased this calendar/book set for our son when he was about 3 years old. He is just shy of 13 now and it is still a tradition to read this book before bed each night beginning on December 1st. When he was little and couldn't read, my husband and I took turns nightly reading to him. He has a very small tree in his room on his dresser where he would hang the book we read every night. Now that he is older, we still take turns reading every night (him included, of course). This calendar is a simple, yet meaningful way for the family to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ as well as count down the days until Christmas. My son will hand it down to his children one day and I will be purchasing one for my goddaughter who is just turning one. I highly recommend this!

  2. I found this book in 1994 and it has been a favorite of our boys, now 14 and 16. We misplaced it one year and didn't get to read it and hang the ornaments. We still had Christmas, but one of our favorite family traditions was missing. I was informed that I'd better find it for the next Christmas-- and I did-- and it was Christmas once again. In fact, we love this calendar/book so much that I'm buying a new one to send to my son who is away at boarding school, along with a small tree on which to hang the ornaments. Just a little piece of home to have in his dorm room. Thanks goodness it's still being published!

  3. I have a table top sized tree and this book beside of my Nativity. I use it every Chirstmas with my kids to help tell them the story of Christmas. Each day has a small book that tells a small part of the Christmas story...now they (10, 8, 6, and 5) gather each day in December to read the stories to each other. I love it so much, I bought one for each of my kids (yes now because you never know when they will be out of print) and for all of my siblings and in-laws.

  4. We had two of this set (the first one wore out!)for at least the past 10-15 years as our children were growing. The girls would gather round and read the little books to one another and then tuck them into the evergreen advent wreath for decoration each day as Christmas approached. Then last year, I reluctantly had to throw the set out since it had been fouled by rodents in storage, and was ruined. I never thought it would go out of print-I planned on getting a new set or two, since one daughter is married now, w/ her own home, this year. I can't tell you how disappointed I am to discover that they are out of print and only available used for $1200!!! Is there any way to get this title back in print? From the other reviews,it seems there is a lot of interest in it! M. Susan Sanders

  5. Yes, I would also like to find copies of this book. I actually ordered from Amazon a few weeks ago and then a week later was sent a message saying they no longer had any in stock. Imagine my surprise when the only one available on their site was listed for $1200+ !!!
This book has always been part of my children's Christmas. It is a very special part of our Christmas tradition. I was looking to give each of my sons one of their own to continue the tradition in their own homes when the time comes.
Does ANYONE know where to find this book?? I know some little old book store somewhere in the world has two copies sitting on the shelf ...

  1. I like this book because it talks about how there are three girls that are waiting for Santa. I would buy this book because it's a nice and gentle book and how this man was friendly to these people I would say this book is for 4 year olds to 11 year olds.

1 comments about Trip To The North Pole (The Polar Express: The Movie).
  1. Said a kindly newspaper writer to a little girl who wasn't sure if Santa Claus was real. "The Polar Express" recalls the sentiment of this letter and in fine style, "Trip to the North Pole" takes readers on a memorable ride.

You know, one thing about trains --- It doesn't matter where they're going, what matters is deciding to get on. So says The Conductor, and in this case, readers will enjoy the chance to get back on board for another story based on "The Polar Express." This novelization takes what you like about the film and combines it with additional material from the original script. It even integrates a portion of the song "When Christmas Comes to Town" directly into the story.

Fans of the film who are old enough to read chapter novels will appreciate the extra attention to detail given in this story. Much of the dialogue is extended and there are also nice bonsues, such as the Hero Boy (who is referred to simply as "The Boy" in the text) shaking his head at a display he finds fake and extended ramblings from the Know-it-All Boy. If your kids enjoyed the film, but aren't yet old enough to read chapter boosk, you might consider reading this story aloud to them.

Normally, I find books based on movies that were based on books in the first place to often be so-so at best. But this is a Christmas treat for all fans of the film who truly believe.

This book includes fifteen still photos from the film, all in color.

1 comments about Christmas on Exeter Street.
  1. In this wonderful children's book, the house on Exeter Street goes from crowded to overflowing as more guests, both expected and unexpected, arrive on Christmas Eve. Grandparents, uncles from South Africa, stranded travelers and the children from next door keep showing up until people, dogs and cats are sleeping in the attic, in the basement, in the cupboards, on window sills and even in the bathtub! Santa, when he arrives, has to take off his socks and count on his toes to be sure he's remembered everyone. The illustrations are detailed and charming, and the story telling is simple but moving. In my family, this book is a favorite and gets read daily during the Christmas season. The whimsy and warmth appeal to children and grown-ups alike. Unfortunately, this book is out of print, so if you find it, grab it!

1 comments about A Christmas Carol (Puffin Classics).
  1. First, of all, I would like to warn everyone that this book is NOT illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman, which was the only reason I purchased it. When I recevied the book, it was a shabby looking paperback with barely any illustrations. I don't know whose mistake it was, but I called the seller, and they still have not done anything to change it. So, if you're looking to order this book because of the illustrator, be warned that it isn't Trina Schart Hyman.
