1. This is an extraordinary book. Antonia Barber has produced a superb story, based on the legend of the Cornish village of Mousehole. Tom is an old fisherman who lives with Mowzer, his cat, who is also aging gracefully. Their lives--organized around fish, firesides, milk, and scratching of ears--fill the first few pages, and then the Great Storm-Cat arrives, howling around the harbor and bottling up the fishing fleet. Food in the village starts to run low. Finally, the day before Christmas, Tom and Mowzer go out to fish together in the teeth of the storm, so that the children of the village should not be hungry on Christmas Day.

   The text is powerful--remarkably so for a children's book. But Nicola Bayley's paintings are, if possible, even more astonishing. There is a gorgeous picture of the Great Storm-Cat and Mowzer at sea; fine, characterful pictures of Tom, Mowzer and the village of Mousehole; and among other treasures, one picture that always moves me to tears. Another reviewer said the book made them weep: I know the page they were talking about. It's where Tom and Mowzer sail back to the village, to discover that the villagers have realized they are gone, and are waiting for them.

   Enough. It's a beautiful picture. Buy the book, even if you don't have kids, though you'll get far more pleasure from reading this to a child. The language is a little complex for a child under five, but you can simplify as you read. And you'll read it again and again.




2. A wonderful story with beautiful pictures. If it doesn't warm your heart, you're not human! It is so good, I've bought a stack of copies to send out as Christmas gifts.



3. When my children were young, this was one of the bedtime stories they loved best. It's particularly good for cat lovers! The illustrations are gorgeous, and the story moves through suspense to a beautiful resolution -- a feast at the end of a storm-tossed fishing trip.



4. Although it is a long book for a 2 year old, my 28 month old son will listen to the entire book and he loves the illustrations. It is a great bedtime book for him. He doesn't ask to read it like he does the other books, but he listens very intently to this one. The book is lovely - I highly recommend it.



5. there are a lot of "good" children's books out there. this is one of the handful of "great" ones.
   
   it's extremely humane writing with quiet humor far removed from the "snark" common in many contemporary children's books.
   
   it's also mercifully free of any ham-fisted "lesson".
   
   while it doesn't really remind me of "The Wind in the Willows", that's the only other children's book i can think of offhand that stayed with me like this one did.

1. This book was VERY good. I loved it! It starts off as the twins are invited to this great, big Christmas bash of the year. Of course, the best part was that there was going to be high school guys there! But when they're parents say they're too young for a high school/middle school party, they're hopes and excitments vanish. But that night before they go to bed, they wish they were all grown up so that they could make they're own decisions and not be bossed around by grown ups all the time! When the following morning arrives, they realize they're wishes came true and thats when the adventure and excitment begins! Read this book! You'll love it! I guarantee! :) ~Samantha~



2. Not a story you will be able to believe,but plenty fun..Copied from the movie BIG,the Sweet valley Twins wish they were grown up(at a carnival)and their wish comes true.They wake up in the morning as 18 year olds.



3. I first read this book about two years ago, but forgot to write a review.
   Liz and Jess's parents were being overprotective and weren't allowed to go to this big party because their parents thought. then they make an exact same wish(they're twins!) and the next morning theie wish comes true! but after awhile they regret what they wished for. if you want to know why then i suggest u read the book. have fun! :)



4. This book was one of the best books out of the sweet Valley twins series. With its series of laughter, fun and emotion it is the perfect book for you hopefully.
   It is about these two identical twin sisters Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield. One of Jessica's friends Janet Howell is throwing a joint big christmas bash along with her high school aged brother Joe. The twins older brother Steven is invited to go along with the twins. The twins are very excited about going but Steven isn't. He would give anything for them not to be there so he trys to bargain with them.
   Eventually the twins parents Alice and Ned Wakefield find out there are going to be high school boys at the party and are a little worried. With a little help from Steven telling his parents how 'wild' the party is going to be the twins aren't allowed to go. They get very disapointed. That night they go to the carnival and make a wish together. They both with 'I wish i were grown up.'
   However, much to their surprise their wish comes true! In the morning they wake up to find they've grown into young women overnight. They quickly escape the house so it doesn't cost major embarrasment and their parents think they've ran away. Steven feels bad and trys to help them.
   I won't say anymore, i'll have to let you read it for youself.
   I Hope you get as much pleasure out of it as i did.

Janet and Joe Howell are giving a Christmas party.Mr and Mrs.Wakefield let Steven go,since they will have High and Middle schoolers there,but NOT Elizabeth and Jessica,they go to a carnival instead and make a wish for being big.Next morning,They are Adults or teenagers.Their clothes won't fit,so they take their mom's clothes.They get a job driving a donut truck,and working in an office.Steven relizes that the women are his sisters.They go to another carnival and look for the wishing well and unwish the wish.

1. Though the song selection is great, it is not made in a way for kids who are learning the recorder. The songs introduce new notes sporadically and in no particular order. Good for a more advanced player.

1. This story is such a refreshingly wonderful story. My 5 year old daughter loves the magic created in this book about the Swedish Traditions of Christmas. It is creative and very different from other Christmas Stories that we have read. Hanna makes a special crown out of tree branches and adorns it with candles, in the Swedish tradition. Very neat story, definitely recommend this one.

1. I have a daughter named Emma and originally got this book for her. I have read it numerous times at home, at school and at the library and it is always a hit. This is a hilarious retelling of the twelve days of Christmas. Humor, romance and lovely illustrations make this a great addition to any library.



2. I bought this book for my daughter and we love it! It's a great way to breath life into the classic tale told in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas". The illustrations are lovely and text tells the very funny and lovely story of a farm girl and her suitor, the Prince. It is a sweet story that can be enjoyed all year round.



3. This is a good book, because it tells a beautiful story about a prince that loved Emma, but Emma doesn't want to live in a beautiful castle. This story is about love.
