1 comments about The Spriitelees: A Christmas Tale About Kindness.
  1. It is Christmas Eve and the situation on the North Pole is grim. Santa's elves are all down with the flu and there is no one to help Santa make the final preparations for the delivery of the toys. Fortunately, far to the south, on an island called Kindness Grove Knoll, there is a group of young people called the Spriitelees. By acting kindly three times in a row, they create a magic that causes a special kind of backpack to appear. The backpacks are called sparkpacks and they allow the Spriitelees to fly. Every Spriitelee except for Bob has a sparkpack, as he still needs to help one more person.
When the Spriitelees heard of Santa's plight, they flew off to help him, taking Bob along. When they arrive at the North Pole everyone except Bob pitches in, completing nearly all of the tasks. However, one remained, the sleigh has not yet been prepared for transport. Since he was the only one left, Bob would have to do it. This frightened Bob, as he thought he was too small to do such a big job. He walked back into the house and what he saw startled him. Santa was standing by the fire and crying because he thought that he wouldn't get the toys delivered.
This galvanized Bob into action, he immediately went outside and using a great deal of ingenuity, managed to get the sleigh out and the reindeer hitched. Once this deed was done, Bob was given his own sparkpack. Santa was so happy that he offered each of the Spriitelees a toy. After each the others had made their selection, Bob simply said that he already had all he wanted. With those words of joy, the Spriitelees flew back to their island and Santa prepared to leave to complete his job.
This is an excellent book for children, demonstrating that sometimes we receive our greatest rewards when we give without expectation. So much of our lives are built around social interactions, yet we often forget that as we struggle through our daily lives. It is especially important to remember this at Christmastime, which is more about giving than it is about receiving.

  1. This small book, Pippi Longstocking's After-Christmas Party was a joy to read. I reccommend it for small children as a Christmas treat or for those grown-up Pippi Longstocking fans who have been longing for another book about the famous redhead.

1 comments about Busy, Busy Elves (Sticker Stories).
  1. I purchased this book as a little something for my 5 year old to work on throughout the holiday. She loved it! The book contains many stickers that your child can stick onto the story pages to finish the picture. If your child changes his/her mind of where to put the sticker, just easily lift the sticker from the page and replace it somewhere else. I found this book worth the money and fun.

1 comments about The Mistletoe Girl and Other Christmas Stories.
  1. Come & be enchanted by Peter LaGue's great illustrations to Ethel Pochocki's radiant stories of foxes & cats, dogs & rabbits, trees & girls, gypsies & mice, & the wealth of Christmas joy in The Mistletoe Girl; That's the Way It Was; The White Rabbit; How M. Philippe Spent Christmas Eve; Cat's Christmas; The Attic Creche; The Baker's Dog; A Christmas Tree for All Seasons.

What I have always liked about this author's writing is its evocative, old-fashioned fantasy telling. Animals talk, trees have feelings, people think new thoughts. You will learn a little history, a little culture, as well as something about emotions -- amusement & worry. You will also have to think about "What if the same thing happened to me?"... & Ethel Pochocki will give you some ideas, in her inimitable style.

RebeccasReads recommends THE MISTLETOE GIRL & OTHER CHRISTMAS STORIES. It is filled with compassion, beauty & the meaning of community...to be reread to your grandchildren's children.

5 comments about Santa Paws (#1) (Santa Paws).
  1. Santa Paws
Some of my favorite parts in the book Santa Paws are when he saves people, and goes through a lot to get his home. It is sad his mother accidentally left him when he was a puppy. There are other books published of Santa Paws. There is a series of them listed in the book.In all the books, he saves people wherever he goes. I greatly recommend that you read this adventurous book of an adventurous dog because it makes you feel how lucky you are to have what you have and to be safe and not starving to death.

  2. This book is way beyond believable, and not good literature, but my son thought it was an enjoyable, fast and easy read. It's a kid's version of a summer/beach read and if your kid likes dogs, he or she will probably like this book.

  3. I first read Santa Paws when I was 8. I loved it so much because Santa Paws did everything and anything to help poeple even though know one did anything to help him. I am also a dog lover and scince this story is about a dog I was drawn to it. I felt kind of bad though because this dog did eveything he could, (he even risked his life) to save people in need but the end was very cute. I strongly recommend this book to kids between the agaes of 7 and 10. Also, parents it would be nice if you read this book to them at night.

  4. I liked this book a lot because it had a lot of suspense, like when Santa Paws saves workers from a collapsed sub way tunnel! I also liked this book because these series of Santa Paws books take place at Christmas time and that is one of my favorite holidays. It gives the book a good feeling. A connection to this book would be my Family because we have two dogs that we love, but we hate it when they get lost. If you like German Shepard heroes you will like this book.
    Grace from Stockbridge Central School

  5. A cute middle reader for any dog loving kid, or animal lover.
