1 comments about Gingerbread Jimmi: Magical Storybook.
  1. Upon a visit to Park City, Utah this year, I had the opportunity to personally purchase Gingerbread Jimmi at the first book signing, Nov. 26. I purchased 2 books for the children of each of my daughters. When I reviewed the book, it revealed a story worthy of the Newberry Award and illustrations worthy of the Caldecott Award. This is my official nomination. It is obvious that sequel books will follow. I look forward to sharing future books with my grandchildren, as well as the Kindergarten children in my classes.
    Sincerely,
    Carolyn Langley
    Grandmother, Kindergarten Teacher (20 years)

2 comments about Santa Visits The Big Blue House (Bear in the Big Blue House Shaped).
  1. Tutter the mouse is worried that Santa might miss him since he is so small. The others in the house join in on the anxiety and decided they need to entice Santa with snacks so he comes to the Big Blue House. Cute story except I wasn't crazy about the end when tutter finds (what he thinks) santa at the christmas tree and it's bear dressed as santa. I thought this might confuse my 2 year old who loves these bear stories.

  2. So says this cute book from the "Bear in the Big Blue House" series about a visit from Santa. It's Christmas Eve and the kids of the Big Blue House and Bear too are all getting ready for Christmas. They're all looking forward to getting presents from Santa, but Tutter has an awful thought --- what if Santa doesn't come? Pip and Pop think about this and they're worried too --- they weren't always good and sometimes they stayed up past their bedtimes! They're all very worried, but Bear reassures them that everything is okay.

A great tale for all "Bear in the Big Blue House" fans and all who believe in Santa. For those that might be wondering, this is an entirely separate story from "A Berry Bear Christmas" --- there's no crossover.

Oh --- and Bear isn't dressed as Santa --- that's Santa Bear!

1 comments about Christmas Lullabies: Book And Cd (Christmas Lullabies).
  1. This is a great board book with tabs for easy turning of the pages. It also has a CD with 35 minutes of soothing music to lull your baby to sleep. This is a great collectible for infants and up. It contains poems and songs that can be read or sung along with the music. The pages are beautifully illustrated, colorful and sturdy. A great book for the holidays.

3 comments about The Christmas Story: From The King James Bible.
  1. I love Christmas books for children and when I discovered this one, I couldn't believe it. It is a definite heirloom and one to be shared with the entire family. This book was not totally set for the younger age group but for everyone. It isn't entirely encompassed with baby words and illustrations like others I've seen. The pictures are also quite beautiful.

  2. This hardbound book is absolutely beautiful, consisting of wonderful illustrations based upon the gospels of Matthew and Luke (KJV).

The illustrator Gennady Spirin, is masterful, brilliant, and elegantly captures the essence of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The construction of the book itself, 33 pages in length, is designed for adults and mature children and is most definitely not a plaything for toddlers.

Purchase this book and establish a new and wonderful Christmas family tradition.

  3. Absolutely gorgeous. Stunning illustrations. Magical ... haunting ... I cannot say enough.

  1. The book Santa Claus is Comin' to town is a delightful version of a classic. It is remeniscent to the holiday song, with the exception of a few added lines here and there.

The illustrations are wonderful, warm, charming and delightful and bring a special meaning to the story.

This is a great book to read during the Christmas season. The book would make a great bedtime story for little ones to enjoy on Christmas Eve!

  2. My two boys ages 5 and 2 love the classic story and the wonderful bright colors of the illustrations. I must have read it to them a hundred times since we got it! Although I think the artwork is a little too busy the boys think its great! It really captures the child's perception of what "Santa Claus Coming To Town" means to them!

5 comments about The Lonesome Pine.
  1. My thanks to a thinking, feeling author who can take her little (and not so little )readers on a safe but emotional journey that lasts a lifetime. As one little reader said to me 'I can never give this book away because it really is my tree.'
I think I know how she felt.
It's a wonderful book, but where are the rest? I can't believe this is a one book only,(for children) author.

  2. I purchased The Lonesome Pine over the internet as it was recommended to me by a friend in the USA. My little daughter has many books but I have never seen anything as original or as inventive as The Lonesome Pine. What Disney did to cartoon fairytales, Ms West has done for children's books. It's the first time I have read a book to Jessie with such excitement in her (and my!) eyes. She was enthralled. It could be read on any level. We couldn't wait to turn the next page! This entertaining story would twist and turn and I had no idea how it was going to end. I have never written a review before, but I was so impressed I felt I had to. I only have one thing to say - Please bring the book to England!

  3. While the shape and beautiful illustrations immediately catch a child's eye, the theme of this book is just as much for adults --a la the more sophisticated of Dr. Seuss books. The life lesson of losing out on what you've trained for, worked for, and wanted so badly , but in the end finding where you really belong is lovingly presented by a Lonesome Pine quite literally put through the mill. How nice to say to a disappointed child who doesn't get picked for a team, audition, etc. "Remember the Lonesome Pine". What a gift to remember it myself. Our whole family enjoys this book and the CD as well.

  4. I read the book The Lonesome Pine by Jane West. This book is about a pine tree that wants to become a christmas tree but instead grows to be something greater. I enjoyed this book because the pictures were beautiful and the author brought the story to life..
The illustrations by Monique Luijan Bakerink were outstanding. She used light fluffy colors when the part of the book was happy. However, when a part of the book was intense, the illustrater would use dark and bold colors. The lush colors swirled through my head as I read the interesting text from this book.
The authors bitter and sweet text from this book brought the book to life. The verbs and adjectives really "spiced this book up."
I think that kids over four should have this book read to them even though this book has some words that are challenging. So remember, if you want to read a great book, read Jane West's The Lonesome Pine.

  5. Recently, I went to pick up my 3.5 year old daughter at preschool. As I helped her pack up her lunch, she pulled me to the carpet and begged me to read her this book. I was intrigued by the triangular shape and as I began reading, 5 of her schoolmates sat down on top of or next to me to listen. They remained silent through the entire book (despite the melee of parents and kids bustling around us). I loved both the illustrations and the message. A week later, as I was kissing my daughter goodnight, she suddenly asked, "Mommy? Could you get me that book? The triangle one about the pine tree? I'd like to have it in my room to read." So here I am ordering it--and spreading the word about what a special book it is.
