  1. Jack Stockman's magical drawings make this simple story of a "Christms miracle" a delightful tale. Great to read to the kids at night.

  2. I had actually misplaced our original copy of this book and, since we enjoyed it so much, have been searching for a replacement for 2 years! Thanks to Amazon, we will once again get to enjoy the story about how a polar bear unknowingly brightens the Christmas Eve of some weary elves. A delightfully uncommercial story and incredibly vibrant artwork will leave you and your children with the joy of the Christmas season everytime you read it!

  3. The title of the book that I read was The Christmas Wreath, by James Hoffman. It was a delightful Christmas picture book that had very prety illusttions. I thought this book was prety good. THis story is aout a polar bear that got a Christmas wreath stuck on his head and called it a necklace. The wreath caught seaweed and other plants and froze under water. THen the bear hung it back up on a door on the door. Then it shined beautifly in the coid night. I thougt this book was a great Cristmas book. the pictures were nice and colorful. In the book nothing bad happened to the bear.

  1. This wonderful book that is a part of the Christmas in My Heart Volumes is unique in that the stories were chosen with children specifically in mind. It is a gift book with heirloom qualities. The special details are a pleasure to behold and there are pages for entries of special Christmas memories, activities, scriptures and photos etc. It is a lovely book to share with loved ones and pass down to children and grandchildren. Delightful!

4 comments about Bear Noel.
  1. Bear Noel by Olivier Dunrea is a delightful holiday book for young children. Bear Noel is coming to visit the animals of the forest for Christmas. Each page gives the animals a new clue of Bear Noel's presence and the fact that he is getting closer all the time. There is enought repetition for young children to join in the reading and plenty of interest to keep them wondering what will be the next clue. Will Bear Noel bring the animals a special Christmas surprise and what will it be? This book should be enjoyed by every young child, and young at heart adults also.

  2. Stiff drawings illustrate a stilted story. A rather disappointing attempt to create a Christmas classic.

  3. Bear Noel is a Christmas delight. I shared it with my second grade class and they hung on every word. The children quickly chimed in on the repetitive parts. So we turned the story into a little "readers theater" with the children taking the part of the animals, acting out the story and speaking the lines. My children and I also loved the illustrations. The beautiful, snow filled pictures were serene and calming. The children just gasped at the beauty of the paintings as I turned each page. I also found the story to be charming. It carries a true Christmas message of Peace on Earth, when all the animals put away their quarrels and problems and find joy in celebrating the season together. I recomend Bear Noel, not just as a book to buy, but as a book to give. It is the perfect present for this holiday season.

  4. Bear Noel is a visual delight for readers that will take them well beyond the holiday season. Dunrea interlaces the magic of repetitive language with exquisite watercolor and gouache illustrations to create a cumulative tale that will appeal to a range of readers---both young and old! His artwork breathes life into the woodland characters as they await the arrival of Bear Noel. Readers can hear the hush found deep in the forest created by Dunrea's rich colors, animals with impeccible detail and landscape that defies the confines of the page. Surely, this book now holds the place of a holiday classic on my shelf.

  1. My two youngest boys loved the book, so much so that we read it to death. We are getting another copy. It is a simple to understand book for kids. It is easy for them to memorize some of the words and "read" along with you.

  1. Okay, maybe it's a bit passé to review my own book, but as the illustrator, I have to admit that I loved this story. Christmas is my favorite time of year. When I was working on the illustrations for this book I brought a little brown mouse that I named Nuss ("nut" in German) into my home. Having owned pet mice in the past I didn't really need an excuse. I find them to be charming little companions. Unfortunately Nuss is no longer with us here in the studio, but I am happy that she lives on in this charming story. I highly recommend this book as a sweet and warm way to share the true meaning of the season and settle those restless heads on Christmas eve.

  1. Carolyn Marsden gets into the skin of her protagonist, Gloria, when on Christmas she must tag along with her mother to her job at the hotel where a sumptuous feast is arrayed in the hotel dining room while Gloria observes the contrast of preparation for others in the kitchen. When she accidentally interacts with a child of one of the guests in the dining room, they find they giggle at the same things until cut short by the girl's parent. Gloria relays to her doll her frustration and sadness that her family's Christmas must be delayed. But finally arriving at her grandmother's and discovering a special gift her Papi, also working on Christmas, had planned for her, Gloria savors their Feliz Navidad at last.

2 comments about Silent Night, Holy Night.
  1. In the introduction, artist Maja Dusikova wrongly explains that the words to the favorite Christmas carol "Silent Night" were written on the spur of the moment by an Austrian priest one Christmas Eve.

Historians have no information to indicate the exact date when Joseph Mohr wrote his six-stanza poem. We only have Mohr's notation that he wrote it in 1816. There is nothing to indicate that it was "written on the spur of the moment." At that time he was assigned to a pilgrim church in Mariapfarr, Austria.

The music was added by Franz Xaver Gruber on Christmas Eve in 1818. The first performance was in St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria with Gruber and Mohr singing each verse while Mohr played his guitar. The choir repeated the last two lines of each verse.

While the book has beautiful illustrations, it's best not to present wrong information to children when it involves a real event.

  2. The soft, moonlit illustrations and flowing verse make this a book to keep and treasure for years to come. Nothing can change the fact that this carol is one of the most well-known and beloved around the world - regardless of dates. The music chip in this one is not the tinny, toy piano type, but plays the full hymn. Truly a wonderful book for families trying to maintain a focus on the "real" story of Christmas and in the end - isn't that what it's really all about?
