- If you can cut wood. You will be suprized how creative you could become by following the step by step, slowly they turn directions. Some really cool projects.
- This book focuses on toys--large and small--with wheels or built on a wheeled platform. I'm not going to comment on the quality of the plans and instructions (I'm not a woodworker), but the following are some of the projects found in 'Wood on Wheels.'
Push & Pull Toys: articulated Rabbit pull-toy on a wheeled platform, three-wheeled Roller Boy, Flounder pull-toy with off-centered wheels, Alligator on a log pull-toy, Turtle (and) Dove pull-toy, primitive-style Twig Dragon, Bob's Sled (a darling design of a child on a sled), spring-mounted Bed Bug on a bed pull-toy, Puzzle Truck, and a cute Platypus push-toy.
Large Rolling & Riding Toys: Minicyle ride-on toy, Push Goat ride-on, Trundle Block Wagon, Rattle Mower, Tug Boat on wheels, Barge to connect to Tug Boat, Hoopytoad Rocker (mini see-saw), Little Red Wagon, Shopping Cart, Classic Hobbyhorse with wheeled end), Luge, Scooter on casters, Fun Roller on casters, and a child-size Garden Cart.
Specialty Vehicles, Displays and Gear: Western Pony (a rocking-horse to display), Prizewinner (a 'carved' sheep made with a rasp on a wheeled platform--adaptable to any animal), Rope Walker balance toy, Gas Pump, Oilcan, Squeegee, Road Signs, Bike Rack, and a couple of small push-type toys.
With the exception of a few special 'display' toys, the majority of these are intended for younger children--probably under 8, but the designs are so lovely that in the hands of a good woodworker, these toys will be appreciated 'on the shelf' long after they are outgrown, and probably passed along to the next generation as well.

1 comments about Wooden Toys.
- With 5 grandchildren I was looking for a book for ideas about making some simple wooden toys that would keep me occupied, and give them pleasure. Nielsen,s Wooden Toys takes you step-by-step through the various stages with each model and is well illustrated to guide you to the finished article.
I found my electric fretsaw a big help cutting out the basic shapes although hand tools are all that are needed to make the toys in this book. Making wooden toys like the ones displayed in this book is a good way to use up all those odd bits of timber you have saved and gives a great deal of satisfaction when you see the look of happiness on the face of the child receiving the finished item. Easy to follow, well compiled and illustrated, this book is a good reference guide for the novice toy-maker.

1 comments about Multi-Use Collapsible Basket Patterns: Over 100 Designs for the Scroll Saw.
- Looking for something different to make on your scroll saw? Then this is your book. Take a flat piece of 3/4" hardwood, using a bevel cut and these patterns, you create a fold out basket. Quite unique designs.
This book contains 8 pages of instuctions. The basic techique for creating a basket is the same for all basket designs, just different bevel angles and shapes. Also included are some helpful hints on making mirrors, picture frames, clocks and weather stations, all with the same design. There is also a section on how to customize the basket project with dates/names for anniversaries or birthdays. The 8 pages of color photos shows examples of different project techniques and is a great aid in what a final project looks like. A great book for unique designs and projects.

1 comments about Designing and Making Rocking Horses.
- I purchased this book for my father for a gift and he absolutely loves it. He sat down immediately and started to read the book and plan out how he was going to make his first rocking horse. The book is filled with so many pictures and great illustration. If you are interested in learning how to make the rocking horses, this is the book to buy. My dad loves it and I can't wait to see his finished product!
