1 comments about Samplers You Can Use: A Handweaver's Guide to Creative Exploration.
- Penelope Drooker is a master weaver and the projects in her book reflect that. She uses both loom controlled and weaver controlled fabrics. There are sections on planning your sampler project, exploring yarns and setts, and color. A dozen sampler projects with instruction are included and colorful pictures of others. There is a color gamp baby blanket, color and weave gamp hand towels and weft faced twill rug, twill and huckaback sampler placemats, etc. I learned a lot from this book. Donna

3 comments about A Weaver's Garden.
- Describes plants used for fiber, dyes, soap, scent, and weaving tools, as well as how to grow them in the garden. I especially like the chapter on soap plants, as that information is hard to find in other books.
- I like this book's concept; taking a "whole" task like weaving and doing a "how-to" book for making it an integral part of one's life. I don't weave, don't know how to weave, but I have applied the idea of this book to making bread from "scratch" (grew the wheat, evaporated the salt from sea water, collected wild yeast from the air, etc.). There are so many "old" trades and ways of doing things that have disappeared and I love reading about them; people who do them, how to do them, how they're "organized," etcetera.
- A splendid resource book, covering plants used for textile fibers, to natural soaps, to natural dyes and dyeing, to planning and planting your weaver's or dyer's garden. As a weaver and dyer, I can attest to both the practicality of the deeper-than-surface overview information given both on plants and propagation, natural dyes, and applaud the excellent examples shown in color photos and b&w botanical illustrations throughout.
Well indexed, with resource listings of plant and seed suppliers and seed exchanges, as well as an extensive glossary.
Too bad to see it remaindered; a copy should be in every weaver's guild library.

2 comments about Weft-Faced Pattern Weaves: Tabby to Taquete.
- This is a large book that is a weavers course in boundweave. The introduction with it's definitions, drafts and excellent diagrams makes sure you know exactly what this weave is all about before starting you on the samples to weave. The author starts with plain weave, 7 different twills, 40 or so pages on rosepath then overshot. You could actually stop there and weave for years. But that isn't even half of the book. There's taquete' & sanitum & more. Terrific! Donna
- The definitive book on boundweave. It is not easy to find any information on boundweave and this book has it all. It covers four harness to sixteen, written in an easy to understand format.

1 comments about Weaver's Handbook of Textile Calculations.
- It's a good reminder of basic calculations. There ia a lack of support theories, cover factor for example. Some errors in the samples: A twill 2/1 allows more ends than a plain weave, the books tells you the other way around... Ops! just be careful, take a deep dive into the theories before you follow them without concerns.
