  1. This book has information on Mega Man 1, 2, and 3, and a preview of a Mega Man that will be coming out on Game Boy. This book will guide you through every Mega Man video game ever made up to Mega Man 3, and it even has an interview with Mega Man himself! Take the advice from me, a former Mega Man champ.

3 comments about EverQuest Box Set (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. this is a very good collection of 4 books which help explain and understand EQ a little better. Covers from the orig.EQ-> SoL...sorry no coverage of LoY or LDoN. but the main thing in this collection is the Spell Book guide. It has most of the spells for all of the classes, no second guessing if you have all the spells you will need to become a powerful char. I highly recommend this collection of EQ guide books.

  2. This boxed collection of miniature Everquest strategy guides is a sketchy purchase, even at Amazon's discounted prices.

Consisting of four small paperback volumes, Prima's set is not much better than the included manual in the latest "Everquest Evolutions" retail software box. For example, even though there are two separate books dedicated to the expansions "Shadows of Luclin" and "Ruins of Kunark", much of the information is exactly the same, making you wonder why they bothered killing the trees to make them distict tomes in the first place. Worse, the information in the two expansion-specific books provide little or no insight into the various hunting zones, history, lore, quests, items, spells, and quirks of each. You will be able to obtain far more detailed and useful information from free Internet sites like EQAtlas.com, crgaming.com, and Allakhazam.com than you will reading the entire Prima series of "strategy guides". In fact, the guides even admit this glaring deficiency in the prefaces. Providing a disclaimer that the guides do not provide spoilers is admirable in terms of disclosure, but it also begs the question: why bother at all?

Here is my final assessment of this product.

    Pros:
Newbies who lost their original game manuals may find something of value here
The spellbook is a nice reference, though there are always new spells and stat changes being done to the game

    Cons:
    The price
    No quest spoilers
Few maps of "hunting" (adventuring) zones, dungeons, or anywhere dangerous--maps that are provided show no NPC detail
Little insight into gameplay strategies for each of the various classes, no new tips on how to adventure as a group or how to solo--basically, there's little reason to call these "strategy guides".
The Kunark guide is especially worthless with more emphasis on fan fiction-style anecdotes than on the game itself

    Summary:
While it's nice to have a hard copy of spell lists and a few zone maps, the Prima books are a bad investment overall. At best, they are merely very high level guides to the game as a whole, and not very good ones at that. There is really no reason to purchase this product unless you lost your original manuals and don't feel like printing reams of data off of the Internet. However, the Internet is clearly the best avenue for players who want to improve their game.

    No recommendation

  3. I agree with the previous reviewer. This guide was a help to this newbie but essentially boils down to "Where's the Beef?" The spell listing was nice and the guide cleared up a few questions I had about how to get some things done but as a "strategy" guide it left me cold.

3 comments about Duke Nukem Zero Hour: Official Strategy Guide.
  1. I and even you will need it if you own Duke NukemZero Hour

  2. The strategy guide is quite alright, although it certainly isn't the best. There is tons of room for improvement. And unlike the guides promise to discover all secrets and save all babes, you frequently have look on your own which is a pain... -- trust me. You will not get 100% on all of the levels with this guide, but it is very helpful in beating the game. Also, the guide periodically has minor grammar mistakes, for example instead of Gorgon its sometimes misspelled as Gordon et cetera.

The guides overall design is very nice, and most importantly its easy to follow. I have come to rely on it on a daily basis so I would defiantly would recommend it. If your stuck on Zero Hour, it certainly worth your five bucks.

  3. This strategy guide is not seamlessly perfect, but if you are stuck on the occasional level this guide is by all means a necessity. Unfortunately, this guide has some negligible and sometimes significant flaws. To begin with, the guide fails to keep its promise of unlocking all secrets and saving all babes. You frequently must look for secrets and babes on you're own -- which, being a hard game as it is, becomes nothing short of a pain in the butt, especially on unusually large levels. So, if you are trying to beat each level perfectly, do not purchase the strategy guide. I guarantee you will not obtain a 100% score on every level. Now don't get me wrong, the guide itself is quite useful and you will certainly beat each level by closely following the guide, you just will not receive a perfect score unless you find the occasional secret and babes on you're own.

As for the guides overall design , they're is little to say besides the fact that is quite nice. It has a somewhat refreshing look and includes some pleasant artwork, which I consider an extra bonus. But most importantly, the guide itself is very easy to comprehend and simple to follow. Needless to say, anyone should be able to use it.

There is another problem with the guide, which is fortunately rather insignificant. The guide has numerous grammar and sentence structure related errors. An example of a common misspelling would is `Gordon' instead of `Gorgon'. Other then that, I don't see anything else wrong with it.

All in all, the guide is quite alright, despite the fact that is contains mistakes. Anyone having difficulties beating Zero Hour will most likely find this guide quite an essential and inevitably come to rely on it on a daily basis -- as I have. Needless to say, it is defiantly worth your money.

  1. This has the best pictures, maps and everything else that makes up the perfect strategy guide. This was able to get me through the games' easily, with great detail, so no mistakes were made. I highly recomend this title to anyone who loves gaming.

  2. Get shot? This guide is the key to the game. You don't even have to read the walkthrough. The maps are so in-depth. The entire guide is helpful. YOU HAVE GOT TO GET THIS GUIDE. If you don't have enough money than save, save, save! This is the must have game of the century. GET IT!

  3. This guide is great if your having problems beating the game or not. It has great behind the scenes stories and maps and a great walk thru. if you didn't know Mark H. Walker did the Ages of Empires 2 guide which is also great. If you have this game it is a must have and you should also get the soundtrack for Medal of Honor

4 comments about The Hobbit (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. I purchased this book, thinking that it would be a guide for The Hobbit for Game Boy Advantage, and it does not cover this video game......The information given for this book does not specify the video games that it does cover.

  2. I also purchased this book thinking it would work for the GameBoy since it was stated for the GameCube but the games are only simular in abstract ways and does not help for the gameboy/gameboy advanced games.
Also from the the looks of the book if you have any choice for game help between Prima and Nitendo Power help books - go with the Nitendo Power I think you will be happier with that book's layouts.
Anyone have any sources for Gameboy help for this game please note it.

  3. This is a great guide just like all of the other Prima Guides. The people who have given this a one or no star rating were idiots when they rated this product. Why? Because it is - or should be - common knowledge that Prima doesnt make big glossy and beautiful guides for every tiny lame Gameboy games. The reviewers should know the difference between Gameboy and the actual plug-in, big ticket platforms ala: Gamecube, Playstation 2, & Xbox. If you want a guide that helped you enjoy the Zelda games: Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, & Windwaker - then this guide for The Hobbit will follow suit with those games and turn your gaming experience into pleasure, not frustration.

  4. Considering that the publisher of this Strategy Guide is providing information based on a variety of gaming platforms, they do a fairly good job.

There are some areas, however, that they could've elaborated more on - i.e. I'm trying to figure out how to get onto the upper level of the jail to get the goodies, and all that the book says is that it has something to do with a crate and a ledge. I've looked everywhere, and cannot find this "ledge" and the game only allows you to move the crate for so long before Bilbo can't move it anymore. Hence, only 4 stars.

I buy strategy guides, when available, at the time I buy my games as I find that they add to my gaming experience (read: keeps me from getting too frustrated!). This one has done a good job of keeping my frustration level to a minimum!

  1. Hartnell's book is a good introduction to adventure game construction. While the book focuses on BASIC programming, which wouldn't be a programmer's choice today, it offers sound design techniques for the absolute beginner. I used this book to write my first text-adventure games on my Apple //c. It's one of the few old computer books that I will still occasionally open.

  1. I own this game. (laughing) I forgot what chapter was I at. The only thing I wanted was that the game could change characters like Harry Potter III. Although Ed was not really bad guy afterall. Actually, I can say there's so much strategizing similar to Chess. Keys, puzzles, main enemies. Sometimes it's gonna give you a headache of on and on and on and on defeating bosses. Acutually the first boss which is a lion type of creature is easy to defeat. Transmuting is easy to do in game but real-life, no no no no no. It's gonna take lots of time to practice. If I was you, THE GAME. Ed's occupation is a State Alchemist. He had right arm with Automail. It is made of metal.
Dialogues were funny, sometimes Ed says "Who you calling shorty?" or this, "Who are you calling a bean?!? or sometimes, "Who did you say was small like a grain of rice that doesn't show up in your eye?!?
And that is how i say about FMA

4 comments about Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel: Sybex Official Strategies & Secrets.
  1. This book has many tables and lists of all the statistics in the Fallout Tactics universe. It also gives information on comabat, charactors (and charactor building), missions, enemies, perks, skills, MULTIPLAYER, and tips on how to win your way to victory. It was easy to understand, the good thing was that it didn't tell exactly what to do. This left the game open, not a complete walkthrough (you know, do this, do that... no fun!). The book really helps make the Fallout expirience ten times better. Buy this book and make the most out of your game.

  2. I really was put down when I realized how different tactics would be compared to the origional Fallout 1 and 2; it had excellent graphics and a good storyline, and the new and improved items were great. I can't forget the multiplayer and map creators that are readily available, but if you are interested in buying tactics for the sheer RPG value of it,then don't even bother. Go for Deus Ex or Baldurs Gate.

In terms of a standalone game, without comparing it to the others, Fallout Tactics is still an amazing game, and certainly worth getting.

  3. I sincerely hope no one would be crazy enough to buy the strategy guide at four times the price of the game. It is a good game, but you can figure out most of the stuff that is in the guide for yourself.

  4. As a kid I always enjoyed reading the strategy guides to my favorite console games, like the Final Fantasy series. Usually these strategy guides had all the information on the actual gameplay/items/locations, plus added touches like 'bonus features' or 'secrets' and even tidbits of information about the game that owners might find interesting. The pages were in color and you could almost read the guides like a good magazine or even a book.

Not so with this guide. As soon as I got this guide in the mail, I realized I would be disappointed. The quality of the printing is low; small pages, black & white print on normal computer printer paper. There are no pictures of items & the descriptions of them are extremely brief and not really useful. The book covers the missions themselves in a brief fashion (a couple pages per mission) with a general outline of the objectives & strategies, with a couple fuzzy screenshots mixed in.

Nowhere is there specific vendor information, ANY information on random encounters or special encounters (which the book bluntly lies about on the back cover by claiming it does have this information), or a tips/tricks section -- of which there are plenty to discover in Fallout Tactics.

All in all this is a mediocre book and you really shouldn't buy this unless you are some kind of avid 'Fallout' merchandise collector. You are better off going online to look at a F.A.Q. or Walkthrough on the game; this book is cheaply made and only covers the most basic essentials of playing through the game.

2 comments about Official Guide to Fallout (Official Strategy Guides).
  1. If you are beginnig to play fallout or are stuck somewere in the game it's the book for you. On the other hand, I bought this book because I had conquered every level in the game and I wanted to see if there was something else that I hadn't come by in Fallout, unfortunatly there wasn't so I was quite dissapointed in that and also they talked about fancy weapons you can have but they don't tell you where they are. I still enjoyed reading about the best game on the computer right now even though it was a little too official and not very oppiniated.

  2. I thought that the book was organized nicely, the fact that there was three levels of information given for each area helped you get the hint you needed without getting too much information and spoiling some of the fun. The first section lists all the areas and important people to talk to, the second gives you hints as to what you should be trying to accomplish in that area, and the last section gives detailed instructions. There are also sections on enemies and equiptment. I thought that they needed to add more detail when giving the most detailed hints though. Lines like "If your speech skill is high enough..." Why not just say that you need a 45 in speech? My main problem though, was simply inaccuracy. About five times a main point is incorrect, such as needing to go to junktown for a SMG or a disarming key being on the Lt. in the Glow. In summation, good design, most of the info you need, but some irritating inaccuracy. By: Travis Blinkenberg
