5 comments about Street Fighter? Anniversary Collection Official Strategy Guide (Bradygames Take Your Games Further).
- The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection Official Startegy Guide is a very good, it goes well with the game. Very well actually. There is alot of useful information is this guide about both of the games present in The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. The guide list every character present in both Hyper Street Fighter and Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, plus it also lists every move in each mode in Hyper Street Fighter for each character and it also lists every move for each character in Third Strike with a brief description of each move and frame data of each move. It also lists some strategys for each character and bad match ups for each character. And as an extra treat it comes with the Third Strike soundtrack. This is definitly worth reading. FINAL ATOMIC BUSTER!!
- I got the guide in the mail today. Just upon flipping through it quickly, it is definetly a good guide. So before I criticize it at all: If you want to learn to play SF3: Third Strike, this is a great guide, and is the best way, [...]so it's worth it without a doubt.
Anyway, so when you actually use the guide, and try to use it to get better with a character, you may run into some problems. First off, there are definetly some mistakes. From looking at the Oro page, some of the descriptions don't match the actual move, as in just a typo, printing error..but still could confuse a newbie.
Also, the thing that REALLY annoys me about the guide is how it labels each move of a character. For an example of what I mean, everyone knows Ryu's special moves: Hadou-Ken, Shoryuken, and the whirlwind kick. But have you ever heard of...Sakotsu Wari? Me neither. But apparently, Sakotsu Wari is F+MP, Ryu's overhead punch. Now, that would be fine, but it is definetly NOT fine when the guide says to use Sakotsu Wari when the opponent is crouching, and I have no idea WTF Sakotsu Wari is, so I have to flip back to the moves index, only to find out that I would have understood them 100% if they had just said F+MP, which they said previously in the guide anyway. That applies to all of the characters.
My last beef is the so called "matchups". It seems for most characters, the matchups are total bull****. For example, Q's good matchup is...Twelve? Uh, okay. Twelve sucks. Everyone's good against Twelve. Let's look at Twelve matchups. Twelve's good matchup is...CHUN-LI? I don't think so. I think most scrub Chun-Li's would beat the [...] out of any Twelve. But the guide's reason for this is that Chun-Li has no standard anti-air...uh..so what? He's frickin Twelve. He sucks.
ANYWAY, those aside, this is a really awesome guide. What surprised me is that it even goes into advanced tactics like Makoto's Kara-Karakusa/her Abare Tosanami combos. With that said, some combos and tactics are noticeably missing, like Makoto's 100% stun combo, Kara-Oroshi/Fukiage, etc., but that's alright.
Overall, I'd say this is something that people who want to get into 3rd Strike should pick up, because it has up-to-date tactics, and most of the combos and info you're going to need when you want to learn a character, and an easy-to-read and easy-to-find page for each one. Plus, it comes with the 3rd Strike soundtrack. That alone is worth the 10 (LESS!) dollars that this'll cost you.
- It's really simple: if you own and actively play 3rd Strike, and have any will or drive to be a competitive player, then you really should own this. Frame data, matchup information -- all the good stuff that you should want and should expect to see in a GOOD fighting game strategy guide is included here. This is not your old-school, garbage Mortal Kombat guide that you bought on a whim while browsing the bookstore: this is real information provided by real, top competitive USA players of the game. Do yourself a favor and pick this up.
- Didn't tell me much that i didn't already know. It's not a bad reference though.
- I grew up playing SFII and later versions in arcades and pizza shops, so I'm more old school. However, when I transitioned to SFIII, I started to enjoy the controls and gameplay. I bought the guide for playing Third Strike on my PS2. The illustrations are great in this guide. Practice makes for a better player.

5 comments about Starcraft Expansion Set: Brood War (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
- to buy this excellent book. I know how useful it is to watch replays, learn from friends etc. but this guide will provide a handy walkthrough, that will help you overcome the Single-player missions (that help you master the units and overcome the basics of the strategy) and then the Multy-player intense action. It provides excellent tips on how to beat each race (what strats to use against them) and even extras such as campaign editor and unit stats help. I for one didn't regret buying this examplary product, and I bet neither will you. It's cheap and useful, just what a SC gamer wants.
And I bet most of us are striving for SC perfecction, right? It's one of the most popular games of today, you know, if you don't play it, when you walk on the street people will point at you and say "hey look, there goes that guy that doesn't play SC, whatta case! When my son got all Fs in school, I said, "that's ok, you won the SC tourney and that's all that matters. Screw graduation ;)."." Jokes and metaphor aside, I can assure you that if you really want to improve your SC skill, buy this book, it's well worth it and so much more... I know you probably play SC just for fun and not to be a progamer and travel to Korea etc. (neither do I), but it's more fun to squish others then get owned, you are happy instead of frustrated with just a little diligence and this game is a fine choice if you want to spend those endless-sleepless nights in front of the Computer ;).
- I bought this book with the starcraft battle chest and I must say that this book is not very good. It is okay to use it for campaigns, but for custom games, it's horrible. Either the strategies are to basic, or they don't work. You'll find your self saying "Wow, thank you captin obvious." If you like to play capaigns, then you may want this book because it helps you a little bit. If you're like me and like to play custom games or have little intrests in campaigns, look elsewhere.
- I am an experienced SC player. My record is 124-12. This book is a bunch of junk and lies. They make stupid claims about units that aren't even true. The tips they give you, are bogus. They claim that a Terran Wraith is expensive to build. It is only 150 minerals and 100 gas, and for all that it does, that is a bargain! I love Wraiths, and I think they are very cheap to build. I am going through reading the book, and making edits from my experience on the game. I love when they say the Terran Battlecruiser is their most powerful unit. Those things are so worthless! I have never built one in my life, and never plan on doing so. For the price and unit supply they cost, they are not efficent.
I can go on and on about how terrible this book is, but what I am trying to say is, this book isn't worth the paper that it is printed on. If you truly need help in this game, you can e-mail me at Cfjoe068@msn.com and I will glady play online with you and answer any questions you have. I love teaching newbs what units do, and introducing the great world of SC to them the right way.
- this book helped me out alot even though i usaly used its for the cheats it has in it but it tells about baskicaly evreything you need to know about starcraft and brood war
- It seems apropriate that this book is included with the Battle Chest - the only person this book would truly help is someone who has never played StarCraft before. "Tips" from the author range from obvious to shaky to wildly erroneous; More often then once the author states that an ability does one thing when it really does something completely different. The maps of single player missions are helpful, but the overly general nature of the "walkthroughs" leaves much of the thinking to you.
While people who are tenatively picking up SC:BW for the first time will appreciate having a book to hold their hand until they acquire a feel for the game, any regular SC player will tell you that the book's suggestions border on laughable. I use this book for the maps, but thats it; its a nice bonues with the Battle Chest, but not worth buying on its own.

3 comments about How to Master the Video Games.
- This tome, with its sure-fire strategies for prevailing in the quasi-mortal combat rituals that were known as Pacman, Defender, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Phoenix, Galaga, Tank and Centipede, is an historical treasure. Of course the games themselves would probably fit in the memory of a latter day cellular phone. Not to worry: they are exemplars of game design which later videos, whatever their graphic sophistication, rarely matched. Using this book I stayed in the same PacMan game for the best part of an entire summer's day (in 1982).
- This cheap little paperback, printed on bulk-rate paper, isn't a gem of strategy, but it is a nice period piece for looking at the early days of "the video games." In today's marketplace of photorealistic 3D graphics, 5.1 surround sound, and internet-enabled play, it's fun to go back and see what people really valued back then: gameplay. Sure, we talk about "gameplay over graphics" nowadays, but it really meant something back then.
- I bought this book when I was 10 and I still have it. The object of the book was to enable you to get higher scores. Compare that to modern video games - when was the last time video games had *scores?*
I like the bonus section in the back of the book that showed you "exercises" to strengthen your gaming fingers. These were awesome too - roll a pencil around a door knob with your fingers to increase your dexterity!

1 comments about Black (Prima Official Game Guide).
- I bought this guide hoping,as if falesly claims, to give the complete stats for the weapons in the game.
Well,if complete stats for weapons means, "this gun is heavy",then I suppose its true. Forget about rating the damage or the rate of fire for each gun - these things are NOT listed! But it will tell you what kind of sight the gun utilizes. Worthless.
The walkthrough and maps are good. Just don't get your hopes up to find out about the "Stars of the Game", the guns.
Im so disappointed....

1 comments about Data Visualization.
- Data visualization specialists use math, computer science and physics to create images that improve understanding of data sets, and this introductory text, perfect for college-level computer libraries and classroom assignment alike, offers a basic introduction to the field and its various visualization techniques. Here are cross-disciplinary keys to understanding such sets and how imaging and computer graphics works, with chapters blending math formulas with imaging techniques and specs. An excellent reference for any advanced, college-level holding strong in computer graphics or data visualization techniques.

5 comments about Civilization IV Playbook.
- Poorly written--if edited at all it was done solely by a spell check program. Not helpful for anyone slightly familiar with the Civilization genre. Will return it ASAP even wihout a refund as I don"t want it occupying even an insignificant space on my bookshelf.
-
I don't want to waste too much of my time, but potential buyers should be warned: This "playbook" looks nice, but the advice is mostly conclusory with little if no substantive guidance on playing this new game (I say "new" b/c Civ IV is so much unlike Civ III) to get the maximum benefit.
- This book, one of the few strategy books available for Civilization IV, was a disappointment. The strategy is highly esoteric and not obviously applicable to gameplay without extensive calculation. The writing is awkward and grammatically difficult at times. In addition, it seems totally focused on combat, as opposed to the many other dimensions of the game.
- Half of this so-called strategy guide sounds like a high-school coach's pep-talk, and all of it is so grammatically-challenged that it is difficult to understand. The author has no idea of the proper use of a comma, and only the dimmest concept of what constitutes a sentence. Some of the strategy advice is decent, but there's not much of it and you can get better for free from fan sites. This is the sort of book that gives self-publishing a bad name.
- I thought that at least the tables and maybe a few of the hints would be worth it since the main book is out of print. Very wrong.
