5 comments about Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor: Prima's Official Strategy Guide.
- The back says "In-depth walkthroughs of every quest", but a quick examination reveals that they don't even include information on where to find a couple of the class promotion quests, which are very important. Also, they've organized everything around the regions instead of around the quests, which makes it difficult to find the info you want without accidentally seeing stuff about quests that happen in the same region, but much later in the game.
It's an OK book, and does cover the things that are likely to have you stuck, but the MM6 book was superior in many ways.
- This book spends a lot of pages on non-important data, as introduction of every monster and weapon and numerous useful or useless items. However, the most important part, the DETAIL MAP OF EVERY REGION and CAREFULLY ORGANIZED WALKTHROUGH are very, very disappointing. Especially the survey map of every region, it's so slipshod! It uses only one hint to indicate a lot of regions and many houses, so a player get nothing and he MUST continuously play his trial-and-error game to find a special house. The survey maps are so small that you recognize almost nothing. Besides, how can a player use fast key? how to learn magic more fastly? How does a player know this item will be useful, or totally useless so he can sell it out immediately? These are the most crucial points a player wants to know in a RPG game. And although you can find the answer in this book ,but it takes a long time to find where these informations are! . I am for a long time a M&M fan, but I must say that I feel very disappointed at this book.
- The Maps are to small and poorly organized
- I'd give it first-worst but frankly it does not deserve first-anything. It IS essential, if only because the manual is so deficient, but that's the best I can say. I've spent almost as much time searching through the guide as I have playing the game. Surely Prima can do better than this.
- I would have never gotten as far as I did without this guide. Very detailed and easy to read. Gives you just about every bit of information you could possibly imagine on the game. Reccomend for anyone who is having trouble or that just wants to move a little quicker.

5 comments about Final Fantasy X-2 Limited Edition Strategy Guide.
- First of all, it is well worth it to buy this package if only for the artbook. It has artwork from both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2, including pictures from the FMV sequences in both games and all of the dressphere costumes for Yuna, Rikku, and Paine. You get one out of three covers on the strategy guide, but a good thing about that is that all three pictures are in the artbook, so if you didn't get the character you wanted on the cover you still get to have their picture. The package also comes with a 2-sided poster. The strategy guide itself includes a guide to getting the secret perfect (complete) ending to the game, which you will not be able to get on your own. Everything you get comes packaged in a folder that has the picture of Yuna on it from the game disk. This collector's guide is a must for any final fantasy fan, it is really really pretty and the guide is very helpful for unlocking the full story of Final Fantasy X-2.
- I rated the guide by itself 3 stars, because it's mediocre.
The art book is fantasic though! I would buy it solely for that. A poster comes with it too, one side of the 3 girls in their mascot dresssphere, and the other side has information about 3 dressspheres. I would have preferred something better for the poster...it's kind of bland.
- The art part of the book is outstanding. Beautiful. Can't say enough good things about it.
The hint book half leaves a good bit to be desired. The print it tiny. The clues are confusing. The information is incomplete. You'd be better off just using the first part (about the dress-sphere and garment grids) and the last part (about the mini-games) and forgetting the middle part.
- Ok, I have had this book for a long while now and am still working with it. Granted, there is not much difference between the regular and collector's edition strategy guides, but the art book makes it worth it. I bought it specifically for the art book. The guide is great, but I just love the art book. Because I loved this one so much, I bought the Limited Edition Strategy guide for Final Fantasy XII, and I love it just as much, the artwork is just as amazing. It may be pricey, if you can still find it, but it is well worth it if you are a true fan. I just wish they would do this treatment with a re-release of Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, and X strategy guides. We need to get on Bradygames about that.
- Good product. Thorough strategy guide, and has a good art book that comes with it. Plus both of the books are put together in a nice decorated cardboard covering.

2 comments about Heroes of Might and Magic III : Prima's Official Strategy Guide.
- This book includes the secondary skill probabilities, total city resource costs, the exact differences between the AIs, and some other useful information. The walkthroughs of each level are also helpful.
In some ways I was disappointed: much of the information can already be found in the manual; many of the strategies are commonsense. If you really love Heroes 3, or are having a hard time with one of the maps, it might be worth your time to pick up the book. Otherwise, you can probably find the useful data you're looking for on the web.
- There once was a game called Heroes, They said it was a game for zeroes. I bought the game without delay, To prove those people were totally gay. I think this book is really great, and for Heroes 4, I just cant wait!

- Nice strategy guide. It has good photos and helpful descriptions of the levels. If you tend to get stuck in games (as I often do), it's nice to be able to refer to this for help.

5 comments about E-Learning Games: Interactive Strategies for Digital Delivery (Neteffect Series).
- I have been creating interactive media including e-learning for over 12 years, been a Professor of interactive media and e-learning design for over 8 years, and am currently seeking a PhD in E-Learning. This book is not worth the money. The information in it is only representational of the typical online instruction with message board usage. There are no interactive gaming examples or information for creating e-learning games. The title is extremely misleading.
The same information at a cheaper price with an easier read and better examples can be found in "Engaging the Online Learner: Activities and Resources for Creative Instruction" by Conrad and Donaldson.
- This is an excellent book and very helpful if you are designing online learning without lots of bells and whistles. I liked that it was based on theory and had lots of creative ideas for making e learning both fun and educational. It's not a gamer book, so maybe the title is a bit misleading, but if you are looking to bring some of the interactivity you might experience in the classroom to the web, this is a useful resource.
- I am a new online teacher and found this book to be a good resource. I like the template and the way it is divided into openners, closers, review exercises, and even peer learning. I have used several of the ideas in the book and they have worked well. I just wish there were more examples, but the content is well researched.
- There are many interesting ideas within this book that will help those teaching online courses that include forums. It's not another technology book, but looks at ways to get people communicating online. I like the design template and found it helpful.
- I couldn't even read it! This book came to me off of the photocopy machine.. with half the pages missing and the rest were very poor quality.
Very disappointing for a $50 book. It will be returned.

5 comments about Pikmin: Prima's Official Strategy Guide.
- Why are these strategy guides always printed so badly
that they cannot survive a single read-through? Those who care about these books want to refer to them over a nd over again, so they deserve a proper paperback binding, instead of a binder inferior to that found on the typical drugstore magazine. My ten year old boy likes this book, but my six year old is the one who really loves it. Both can use the information, after playing for some months without ever finishing the game. Don't buy this book until you've already spent some time with the game on your own - why spoil the fun for those parts that you can figure out for yourself? Save it for when you get stuck.
- Y'know I like books that provide a lot of information.. but this one is a bit *over* detailed. With it, you might as well not bother finishing the game. It takes too much of the challenge out of it...
- this guide is very organized and i recommend it for anyone wanting to complete the game pikmin.it very well helped me with completeing the game.this guide is a good book for its great walk through and detail information.i suggest it for you.
- This walkthrough is not really necessary for this game. I beat it and I had no Idea what I was doing. I just kept going and collecting ship parts. The only things that you really need to is make sure that you get at least a part a day, taht's it... Even if you don't know how, tyr getting it anyway, and if you can't get it, then try to get a different part. that's it . so this walkthrough is not really needed, unless your not a hardcore gamer.
- This walkthrough/strategy guide is not needed. I beat the game without it, and from other reports it tells you everything. Heck, I'd bet it even tells you the endings. So if your looking for a challenge, then I'sd suggest that you DON'T BUY THIS GUIDE

2 comments about The Video Game Explosion: A History from PONG to PlayStation and Beyond.
- If you're like me and you are looking for a book that provides a comprehensive, authoritative history of video games...keep looking. This is not it.
Starting on page 10, where the chapter's author (and editor of the book) Mark J. P. Wolf cites Defender as an example of a vector arcade game, I found myself stumbling upon inaccurate information sprinkled throughout the book.
Because there are a number of different authors, the chapters tend to vary rather drastically in quality. Some chapters, like Chapter 14 (The Rise of the Home Computer by Bob Rehak) are well-written and very interesting. Another contributor is noted video game historian Leonard Herman (whose own "Phoenix: The Fall and Rise of Video Games" is a far superior book on the subject of video game history). Herman's space must have been limited by the publisher or the editor in this case. For example, his chapter profiling Atari, the most prominent company in early video game history, is a mere three pages long and covers the formative years of the company, the 11 years when Atari was at the height of its success(1972-1983), in only three short paragraphs!
Unfortunately, the well-written and informative chapters are in the minority here. For example, Wolf's chapter profiling the adventure game genre somehow manages to mention neither Infocom (developer of the most popular text adventures ever published on home computer systems) nor World of Warcraft--the online multiplayer adventure game played by millions around the world and considered by most to be the peak of modern adventure game development.
In addition to glaring omissions like these, the research behind the book is extremely spotty. It is obvious to anyone who is familiar with the subject that the information in arcade game chapters is primarily drawn from the Killer List of Video Games [...], an informational site that lists thousands of arcade games. The game names are peppered through these chapters in shotgun fashion, with often questionable release dates but little elaboration on the nature of the games themselves. There is also an obvious unwillingness throughout the book to follow up on games whose histories are hazy (read: not fully documented on KLOV)--in numerous cases game titles, which were probably just culled from a list of a company's games on KLOV, are mentioned but then said to have "possibly never been released." Video games haven't exsisted nearly as long as most other forms of entertainment, so the people who made them are still around for the most part. While you might not be able to ask a 17th century writer if he had ever released some rumored manuscript, one CAN contact video game manufacturers/designers/programmers from the 80s and ask them whether a game was ever released. (I know...I've done it myself. Video game developers are very approachable and, for the most part, easy to find.)
Anyway...the bottom line is that you should save your hard-earned money. If this book had been well researched and consistently well written, I would wholeheartedly endorse dropping $[...] on it. As is, you can pay a fraction of that for Leonard Herman's book or Steve Kent's "The Ultimate History of Video Games" and learn a whole lot more about video game history.
- I thought Wolf's book had a lot of interesting historical information and useful product information. Being a mom of four school-aged kids, this was important to me. We thought the in-depth information about how games were and are actually made was especially intriguing. I really liked the specific information on the Nintendo and PlayStation games and thought the information on the online role-playing games was truly informative. The layout of the book (detailed table of contents and index) allows a reader to easily find the subject of video games he or she is looking for. The endnotes section contains numerous useful Web site locations to find certain types of games or information on games. This book is a good source of a lot of information in one convenient place.
