  1. I do not normaly buy game guides but for Bounty Hunter I needed something to look at. This guide is very well written and includes all the secondary bounties! If you have Bounty Hunter, and want to beat it, get this book.

5 comments about The Dark Side Sourcebook (Star Wars Roleplaying Game).
  1. This book, in short, is a must have item for any Game Master. It is loaded with information from the Sith era on up and backed by excellent art and photos. Information only hinted at in the Core rule book is fully explained and new feats and skills aplenty. Further it is not limited to the Sith- Emperor's Hand, and Imperial Guard, to name a couple are detailed. Further a galaxys' worth of NPC's and complete revised stats on your favorite Darksiders from the movies. Nothing is left untouched. The icing on the cake are numerous helpful GM tips on running a Darkside campaign. In close, I would even recommend this book to non-players who are fans of Star Wars, due to the volume of information, photos, and all around great reading.

  2. The Dark Side Sourcebook is largely for a gamemaster who wants to produce serious villains, or for someone who wants to run a Dark Side campaign. It contains all the tools necessary for either of these tasks, including a load of very powerful prestige classes (including the mighty Sith Lord) and jaw-dropping items (including the Sith Talisman and Orbalisk Armor). There is also included the requisite gallery of known baddies, and some monsters that will pose an extreme challenge for even the most powerful heroes.

There are only a few problems with this book. Let's start with the most obvious one: the lack of a sourcebook for the ancient eras where Dark Jedi ran rampant. Most of the prestige classes, items, ships, and individuals mentioned in this book are exclusively available in that time period, so this absence is significant. This can be addressed soon, however, and is not one of the 'embarrassing flaws' I mentioned. The charts for the prestige classes have odd discrepancies in convention that seem to be a halfway point between the original and revised core rulebooks. For example, reputation is either noted as ever-increasing or a series of +1 and +0s, and lightsaber damage is listed as +1d8 +1d8 +1d8 ... +2d8 rather than 'increase lightsaber damage.'

Some other gamemasters might have noticed another interesting problem. The Sith Lord prestige class has 10 levels, but it is impossible to become a 10th level Sith Lord (I'm assuming a 'non-epic' campaign here). The reason for this being that the class requires a reputation of 10, and it is impossible to get that in 10 levels. A more obvious problem is with the Emperor's Hand prestige class, since there can only be one Emperor's Hand. This rather limits the potential of the class, does it not?

Of course, the gamemaster is by no means held to obey the whims of this sourcebook. I simply threw out what I thought was unreasonable and went on with the game. Though I generally found the book to be a worthwhile investment of time and money, it could have been far more satisfying with a bit of improvement in the range of options available. This especially applies to campaigns run in the Rebellion Era which, let's face it, is the only really FUN era to run in!

  3. To clear up the confusion of one of the previous reviewers, it should be mentioned that the Dark Side Sourcebook was published *before* the Revised Core Rulebook, and thus uses the older, obsolete ruleset. Fortunately, there is an update file to be found at the Star Wars section of the Wizards of the Coast website that addresses these changes, and brings it in line with the new rules.

That being said, I liked this book back then, and I still like it now. The DSSB really set the stage for the high-quality, full-color, hardcover books that would later become the standard.

I really enjoyed the sections on Dark Side Spirits and Possession, but I think my favorite part was the large selection of Dark Side characters. There is also a wide range of new Dark Side force skills, new feats, mutated beasts, killer droids, and deadly weapons... and not to mention the comprehensive history of the Sith tradition itself, starting from its break with the Jedi Order over 25,000 years prior to the events of the movies.

In short, this is still a solid book, and if you're an evil player, or simply an evil GM, this one is for you.

  4. Hey men !
what's up too long delay. wait from february and now in May still waiting until july !!

Hope that you give me a discount for items due to the lack of buisness.

  5. I just recieved Star Wars, Dark Side Sourcebook and I love it. I have not put it down since. It has help me create and play a dark sider better than before.

5 comments about The Sims Bustin' Out (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. If you are anything like me and aren't an ace with Video games but adore the Sims. Then you'll want this guide. This game has a lot of different goals you must attain to gain items/clothes/actions. Sometimes those things determine your progress in the game. As in certain goals allow you to go to different places Club/Gym/Etc.

This guide tells you a lot of the information about the game itself even with information on how other Sims react to your actions. I play this game in stages and it's nice to have this guide to help me discover hidden items that you are supposed to search for or who to talk to accomplish certain things.

This book had enough information to help me learn the best way for me to play the game.

Now for the only thing I found lacking was a bit more description or hints for what is best to have or sell once you've completed skills, etc.

There are certain things that once you acquire them you'll want to have in all of the houses such as the Miss Gyrotic, the Gourmet stove and Hellagraphix (all items that have to be unlocked). Once you have these items it makes pleasing your Sims much easier.

Luckily this guide tells you were those items are and how to gain them.

For a game guide I find this one very thorough and I'm glad I have it to go with my game.

I highly recommend it if you own or are planning on buying the Sims Bustin out game. Also even if you just rent it it's worth the $12 for the book

  2. I would deifinitely recommend this game to anyone who isn't video game whiz. It has many, many helpful hints, tips, and strategies. To make a long story short, this book has been extremely helpful to me, and will be very profitable to all you Sim lovers out there!

  3. If you have never played the Sims' games, for computers or consoles, then this book will be quite helpful. The little instruction manual in the book was NOT good. This guide helps get you on track!

  4. I purchased this guide day-before-yesterday at my local Wal-Mart, and I must say that I am incredibly satisfied. The guide provided a quick and easy tutorial for the game. This guide tells you how to improve your relationships with Sims, it includes a guide for the GBA version of the game as well as the GCN-PS2-XBOX version, a dizzying catalog of every object in the game, detailed descriptions of jobs and careers, and practically everything else that you need to know! A special section for GCN-GBA connectivity adds to the value. All in all, a must-buy if you are getting the game.

  5. This stratgy guide is a must if you play this game.It has details on every career path, pictures and details of every NPC Character Sim and Objects, all unlockables and what you have to satisfy to get to each location. The guide is wrong about one thing thou.It says you can marry an Npg sim.You can't.You can only marry a sims on free street 1,2 or a sim you create on free street 3 to marry.Once you open up free street to visit you can visit them and either get up to relationship or freindship status with them then leave and call them and invite them over but make sure you put a phone in their house so you can call them.If there is a paticular sim you like in bustout mode you want to marry you can create one in free mode to look like him or her. That's what I did.I created one and made her look like Goldie one of the Npg sims but getting back to the guide this is a must have it will make the game a lot easier. If you don't have this guide you can get them used thru one of the sellers here.

3 comments about Castlevania: Lament of Innocence(tm) Official Strategy Guide (Brady Games).
  1. While Lament of Innocence is a game where the puzzles and bosses aren't particularly hard to figure out, it is comforting to have a guide in hand, if for no other reason than to have useful information out where you can see it. And for me, there are always a couple of occasions where I'm staring at the screen wondering what the point is behind a particular circumstance, and a guide keeps me from going of on a tangent.

This is a sensibly written guide that takes the player through a possible line of play which assures that the player will see all the sights, get all the items, and stand a reasonable change of defeating all the bosses. It doesn't spend a lot of time on lavish illustration or unnecessary detail either. Personally, I prefer this style. There has been a trend towards 300 page guides that are harder to use than the game is to play. That isn't the case here.

It's arguable that Lament doesn't really need a guide, but I find that a good guide reduces the frustration level and enhances overall enjoyment. This effort by Laura Parkinson does exactly that. Especially for someone who is still getting used to the genre.

  2. For most games you'd think that you don't want to waste your money on a stadegy guide, but that isn't the case for this game. It is very easy to get lost in the repetative looking levels and you can miss important items. This gives you everthing you need to know. There hasn't been a guide that has helped me out this much since the one from Final Fantasy X.

  3. Castlevania: Lament of Innocence is said to be a game you can easily complete without a strategy guide. Well, I don't care if I need a guide or not I pick it up anyway.

This particular guide is really handy. This is easily one of the better guides I've seen and I've got hundreds of strategy guides lying around the house (literally).

This particular guide is the best and most comprehensive way of going through Castlevania LOI. A complete full walkthrough and it gives you all the secret goodies for after you've completed the game.

Castlevania has simple puzzles but sometimes finding everything requires a different course of action. This guide helped me find all the relics, all the keys and helped me unearth all the secrets Castlevania has to offer.

The walkthrough is detailed, complete with maps. The maps show you where all the items and switches are, making it easy to navigate. There is one small tid-bit with how the guide is. It's done perfectly but you'll find yourself flipping back to the map a lot because of how the game's camera is constantly rotating.

Boss strategies are very handy and reveal everything you need to know to beat every boss, including the forgotten one.

I was also very impressed with how the guide made suggestions as what sub-weapons I should take for a certain area. I usually only rely on the cross but using this guide I found there are some instances where the cross just isn't always the best.

This is a very impressive guide that should help anyone get through the game of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence with very little trouble. It also helps you uncover 100% of the castle and actually SHOWS you with screenshots how to do things. No problems with the guide, its worth buying if you need the help with the game.

  1. In this guide I found my dream book. it has everything I could possibly want, Weapons, enemy list and absolutely NO major plot spoiles!! I would recommend this book to anyone who has the game!!

  2. Good Guide with terrible misconceptions about certain things in the game.

  3. I would get this guide if you are stuck on some parts. It has lots of cool information like weapons and items. It also has a sealed secret section. It is a complete stradagy guide

  4. This guide is the only guide that I've read that has everything a guide should have. It has an enemy, weapon, item and character index and it doesn't give away the ending of the game. It tells you what herbs to mix and the result of mixing them. It tells you where to find the weapons and their ammo. The maps are also very well done. They tell you where to find herbs, weapons/ammo, and save points. This guide also tells you what attacks the enemies have and it gives you strategies for defeating each monster. The only thing that they didn't have was a map for Evil Claire in the minigame you get to play after you beat the game(can't remember name of minigame).

  5. I actually never needed this guide much. The explanations were a little confusing, and it made me wanna sell my game (which I did). Want my honest opinion? Look for some online guides. It's free and will do better.

3 comments about Destroy All Humans!(tm) Official Strategy Guide (Official Strategy Guides (Bradygames)).
  1. This strategy guide is really not necessary to play Destroy All Humans. First, the game is simple and the missions are self-explanatory. And second, if you suck at finding the hidden items, buy this or you may die. Otherwise, don't buy it. Plain and simple.

  2. After defeating the human race on my own, I purchased this book to seek out various DNA probes on the different levels. It turned out to be very helpful, and just kind of complete all the levels on a more thorough basis, as opposed to just beating the levels.

I highly recommend this book, especially if you get stuck. Some of these levels are tough, and I encourage you to try to win on your own, but if you find it too tough, this book is a must, and it comes in handy when seeking out the DNA probes. This game rules!!! And this book rules too!!!

  3. helpfull book, got me through a couple tough spots already, hard to find in the stores too!

5 comments about Cyberpunk 2020: The Roleplaying Game of the Dark Future.
  1. I've ben GMing for something like fifteen years and this is the system I always return to. If I want to run someting of my own, this is the system I base it on.

Slim-line, fast, flexible, simple, expansive, effective. All words that describe Talsorian's game mechanics - it simply does not get any better.

As for the universe - this is a REAL world of darkness. No bright dawn, no happy ever after. Only your wits and tech, style and edge. No right or wrong, only power and death, a world of grey areas that seems only just around the corner.

If you are a gamer and you don't have this - get it now.

If you aren't a gamer but love the Dark Future setting, it's worth it.

    Magnificent.

  2. I was stationed in Vilseck Germany with the 2nd of the 63rd Armor when I friend told me about Cyber Punk. It was almost a year before we found someone with the books, and immediatly set up a game. It was a game that I have never forgoten. It sits in my mind like the begining of Secret of Mana, forever a defining factor in my oppinions.

This game does tend to drag with its role to hit/role to dodge rules, but it is more believable then any other game I have seen or played. The setting for Cyber Punk is OURT world, with OUR history. It is science fiction. We can look at our own lives, make few changes to the timeline, and see that it IS possible. In reality, these things would never happen, but in the game, it is easier for us to adapt to this new world because it is so close to our own. Realy, what has changed? The world has met a sort of anarchy, like in Mad Max. The government is now run by Corporations. Bionics are common enough that you see people with mettle limbs on a regular basis. This world is more real then any other I have seen, and this makes more believable. Since it is more believable it becomes easier to enter your charactor and enjoy the game.

If I had to rate all the games I have played, I would put this on tope, even with its long combat and ineffectiveness with machine guns.

  3. CP 2020 is by far the best pencil and paper RPG, this is all you need to get started. Playing CyberPunk will open your eyes to the world and the direction it is heading in and also opens your creativity and imagination. Everything from the weapons, the armor and the stat system whips AD&D. Anyone who doesn't like the whole fantasy ideals and/or combat system of AD&D needs to give CP a serious look-see.

If you like CP:2020 check out the CyberSphere MOO, well coded and reasonably closely based on CP.

    Telnet on over to:

    cs.vv.com:6969
    or
    cs.vv.com:7777

  4. Out of the whole cyberpunk movement and craze, it would seem that a role playing game was a natural. This had an interesting setting and information, and was appropriately brutal. This would lead to characters having the life expectancy of at least a little more than a paranoia clone, so you had to do something about that if you wanted to feature violence in your games.

  5. In the short-run, it's like Shadowrun only without anything in the way of mysticism or magic. It's all metal or nothing in this game.

Plenty here have praised the games mechanics, so I won't dive into that... ditto the excellent storyline (I haven't actually GMed a CP game in almost 10 years, and haven't played in five, yet I'll still flip through the rulebook every so often just to read about the local color and stories provided)

If the game has a downfall it is only in that the story lineage is a little dated by modern standards (although strangely prophetic). As 2020 is fast approaching us (being 12 years away as of this writing) much of what was theorized as being "part of the future" has actually come to pass: The internet (ok, not QUITE as they have invisioned it, but can it be far off?), cellphones, corperations wielding vast political power, even modern stem-cell research is a harbinger to the body limb-regrowth capabilities tauted in the game, ditto with cyberlimbs/prosthetics.

The game itself is still very much worth playing. Only now instead of a "dark future", the game has instead become more of a "grim alternate reality"... or alternately, you could just move the game's story ahead 20-30 years and adjust accordingly :)

I highly reccomend it. If I could find another regular crew to play with locally, I'd be all over it!

5 comments about Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II (Prima's Official Strategy Guide).
  1. The book is very infomative and well illustrated, the only draw back is that the optional missions should of been included in thier own chapter, instead of strewed throughout the book. And a longer list of possible creations with weapons, armor and stones should have been provided.

  2. this strategy guide is great for those who are a bit video game challenged, like me. the best thing in it, as is in all stategy guides, are the maps. very helpful in gettin around places, and for findin treasure. the coolest part is when you're able to unlock the famous r.a. salvatore charachter, drizzt do'urden. he's soo awesome to play!!!

  3. The book that I ordered was in new condetion, and I received it
very quickly. I am very pleased with mt purchase

  4. This guide is essential to figuring out the best way to play a character the first time through. Without it, you will need to play the game and waste level-up points on worthless skills and attributes. The maps are not all that necessary, but they can save you a little time from backtracking. If you like making magical weapons and armor, this guide can be a great help.

  5. I am writing this because I am now playing the game, and this strategy guide did not have what the cover claims it has. The cover says, "Maps Revealing Every Secret Area." But I am in Act III, and Skull Gorge has an Orc Cave with a secret area that is not in the guide. To learn how to access that area, I had to refer to a walkthrough posted at gamefaqs.com.

Nevertheless I am giving this book 4 stars. This is because I do not recommend playing the game without a guide. You could follow the one at gamefaqs, but Prima's is much more colorful and you can have it right by your side without having to print out anything.

Why do you need a guide? If you're a beginner, playing a Forgotten Realms roleplaying game for the first time, you can easily get into trouble by trying to develop a character without help. Even if you're experienced, you might want to feel confident that you can get through the game without becoming angry and frustrated. Having a good walkthrough at your side gives you that confidence.

Prima's guide has many glossy illustrations and easy-to-read maps. So far for me, its most helpful features are the character guides and the Workshop section. The latter has been essential. The game itself fails to give me details that I want for making good magical items.

5 comments about Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (Prima Official Game Guide).
  1. my son rec'd this for Christmas and he has read it front to back and over again! according to him, it really helps with his game, so he is very happy with it. for me, i am glad he is reading it and thought it is important to read it over and over again. i peeked at it and noticed it uses very big words: sporadically, legendary, harrowing, traverse,... to name a few. It is no great literature, but for a reluctant reader, this is as good as one! If your child "hates" reading but begs for a player's guide, get him/her one! You will be surprised how motivated the kid will be to read this.

  2. I recomend you have this book if you play PMD,because it has cheat codes, what Pokemon the dungeon has in it,and lots of other stuff you would want to know about Pokemon.Although the book does mess up in the pokedex,it`s something you could correct easily. All in all, this book is extremely helpful book for Mystery Dngeon players.I wouldn`t be able to find a better Pokemon book.

  3. Okay this was good but not so good. The walkthrough did give info and helpful. But the post game part iakes some time to go through to find what you want. The PokeDex is great
    Only 1 problem
    1. More for Danger in the Dungeon and Powerful Pokemon
and way better pokemon in Danger in the Dungeon

  4. My son woud have never been able to get through his red rescue game without this guide, it really is a necessity for the game. Nintendo makes a great pokemon game, but it is close to impossible to get through to the end of the game and get all the special pokemon and all the special hidden items without the guide book.

  5. Apparently this book did not go with the DS game that it was tied to on the purchase - it was of no help and I had to order the correct one - bummer linkage

  1. With the success of the Nintendo Wii, many upcoming owners are having a very tough time on finding the new game system, and deciding if it is the right system for them. This book The Nintendo Wii Pocket Guide, is a simple and easy reflection about what the Nintendo Wii is all about. It is also easy to highlight all the simple instructions on how to operate the new system, and each of the simple parts of the system, from the virtual console and Wii Shop channel where you can download games like Super Mario 64, to a quick how to guide on what games are best suited for the system, and all the kinks of extras like the Internet Channel. It is a quirky and convient guide for anyone who has bought the system used without instructions, or if you're planning on buying Nintendo's dynamic console. I realy like how simple the book is, and it is a great buy.
